Re: One of Demon's Souls' Hardest Bosses Has Been Beaten Using Just a Dance Pad

@RPE83 Fair enough, but the number of hours rely heavily on what kind of skill you want to develop and your natural talent.

It also minimizes the fact that you still need to practice afterwards if you don't want to regress... and for physical skills you are going to regress anyway as you get older.

10000 hours is such a random number. It is a pet peeve of mine, just like the "you only use 10% of your brain".

@kyleforrester87 That's a common misconception. The "10 000 hours makes you an expert" popular idea on the internet is false. No amount of exercise/practice can account for some innate level of dexterity and skills you need to be a pro at most things (music, sports, etc). For video games, it is debatable but I don't think if I let my grandma play Cuphead for 10000 hours that she will be able to beat it lol.

Practice all you want, if you are 5 feet tall, you will never play in the NBA.

Idk if Sony is doing artificial scarcity on purpose for the PS5, but concerning Nintendo, for all the naive people out there, you should read this :https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.magnatag.com/amp/blog/post/is-artificial-scarcity-damaging-the-nintendo-brand

Some excerpts:

"The most unsurprising element of Nintendo’s circumstance in particular, is that the company has recently experienced the highs and lows of both overestimating (Wii U) and underestimating (amiibos, nes classic, snes classic) the demand for their products. (...)

So what does Nintendo have to gain—if anything—from creating an artificial scarcity? For starters, inventory shortages work as a tremendous PR machine for a company with an in-demand product. Think back to any holiday of recent memory: There’s always that single product that no one can get their hands on, but regardless of however rare and difficult to find it may be, somehow it always manages to make its way to the desk of every morning and late-night talk show in the country. People like to have the new “it-product”, and something that is in high-demand and is seemingly impossible to find drives value in the short-term.

From a manufacturing perspective, Nintendo seems to be using a hybrid push-pull strategy for their supply-chain management. History suggests that the company doesn’t do well with long-term forecasting, and rather than have another inventory mishap on their hands, Nintendo’s distribution model likely wants to take advantage of economies of scale by only pushing out products they are guaranteed to sell. As a result, these products become harder to find in retail locations, but they are never left to go to waste. From this point forward, a manufacturer’s production efforts are typically based off of consumer demand.

When manufacturing a product at a larger scale, companies are often required to take on larger investments to front production costs. So in Nintendo’s case in particular, where demand is superseding inventory, the second wave of production costs greatly outsize the production of the first round of consoles. Nintendo’s manufacturing strategy grants decision-makers with a period of reflection, which gives their manufacturing team time to analyze the popularity of a product before planning the next round of production or deciding to increase the product’s cost. Creating an artificial scarcity is a pro-business move that prioritizes profits over consumer happiness. Period.

As we all know, rather than creating units to meet demand, Nintendo elected to cut manufacturing short—which was likely a move that was made to eliminate any excess capacity in the manufacturing process and maximize profits."

@AdamNovice Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Toys for Bob probably included all that extra content so Activision could justified a 60$ price tag.

Personally, I do agree with Caddi that there is too much recycled content. The same amount of extra challenges but with new stages would have been better.

@AdamNovice It's only bad if you rush to complete the game. I saw his video too and it is obvious he crammed a lot of Crash 4 into a couple of weeks to be able to make that video. I'm doing a couple of gems per week since the launch and I still love the game.

Re: Xbox Series X|S Runs PS2 Games Better Than PS5

Turbodream

I know they won't do it but Sony should take the opportunity for the next couple of years to release 1 or 2 PS2 classics on the PS4 each month. With a platinum trophy, these would sell enough to be profitable.

It's also almost criminal that there are no PS1 classics on the PS4. I mean, Sony, just dump what you already have on PS3 on PS4. It shouldn't cost a lot of licensing / resources to do.

Re: Xbox Series X|S Runs PS2 Games Better Than PS5

@mrbone I have hundreds of PS2 and PS3 games. I have some PS2, PS3, Wii, Wii U, Ds, 3ds and PS4 games on display in my living room right now, ready to play. I have a 4k tv and a CRT next to each other.

Variety is the spice of life. I do understand I'm in a pretty small minority, but we are passionated and we spend a lot of $$$ on gaming.

Re: Soapbox: PS5 Is Pushing Me Ever Closer to All-Digital

Turbodream

It's complicated. I'm a collector so I buy a lot of old used games. I've always prefered physical media. I love to read video game manuals and display my games, but I don't like to pay 80$+ for a rare 15 years old game if a legal digital alternative exists. I also like trophies a lot so Sony, please rerelease all the great PS1 and PS2 games for PS4, I'll buy them!

Anyways, digital is a godsend on PC and for indies and niche games. A lot of games would have never existed if not for digital.

I do agree with the author that digital is more and more attractive nowadays. The death of manuals and the need to install discs make physical media almost superfluous if the pricing of digital media is right and you have the storage for it!

I still like to buy physical for the rare games with manuals and/or artwork included.

@TheRedComet It's easy to forget now with the small budget and dated special effects, but in 1995, Mortal Kombat the movie was a big hit and a big success financially.

Also, it is still one of the most accurate if not the most accurate adaptation of a video game to a "real" movie (not animation).

Sure, it's cheesy but the fight choregraphies are good enough for the most part and it is memorable. It was so good in fact that the future games changed Kano to be like his depiction in the movie.

You just have to look to the sequel to see how a MK story can easily be a complete mess of a movie.

Christopher Lambert (Raiden) was a big french movie star at the time. He is great in MK.

Re: Rumour: Massive Capcom Leak Reveals Dragon's Dogma 2, Street Fighter 6, New Monster Hunter, Onimusha, More

Let's speculate.

Rock Man Match: looks like it will be the long awaited Mega Man battle network collection. Mr. Match is a recurrent character in those games.

Resident Evil Hank may be a reference to Hunk (Hanku in japanese). That character appears in several RE games. Maybe it's a hint to a Mercenaries remake? A new operation racoon city game? It's noteworthy to know that while he is absent from code Veronica, he is still mentioned. So maybe we will get that remake we fans want.

Onimusha new work. At 1st glance, it looks like we will get a new game but... I think we will get a remake/hd port of Onimusha 2 samurai's destiny. Why? New work in japanese can be translated as Shinsaku. Shinsaku is the name of a famous historical samurai.

So are my speculations too farfetched? What do you think people?
