Re: The Last of Us 2 Dominates Game Awards 2020 Nominations

Turbodream

@Col_McCafferty r/woooosh.

I hope that GOT will crush TLOU2 (it would in an objective world).

Anyways, nobody cares about the Game Awards apart from a very tiny minority of enthusiasts (us) and TLOU2 is old news now.

See you in 2021 or 2022 for the HBO series. It's gonna sucks so hard lol

Re: Games Journalist Alanah Pearce Joins Sony Santa Monica

Turbodream

@Flaming_Kaiser Do you yourself write? It's simpler to understand if you do. Writing fiction vs nonfiction (content) is very different and you also have to keep in mind the fact that the medium you use (container) has a big influence due to limitations inherent to them (writing a movie script vs writing a play script for example).

At the most basic, you absolutely need a good imagination/creativity to write fiction and you absolutely need to be able to do good research to write nonfiction. For example, I can easily write a competent essay, a review or an opinion piece, but I would struggle with writing a good novel or play.

You can't really teach people to be imaginative but school can give them tools and methods to help the process, like how to write realistic dialogues or how to use descriptions effectively. Don't get me wrong, people can learn and hone them on their own with practice and experience too if they are motivated and/or skilled enough. I mean, you rarely see authors writing their magnum opus in their 20s and 30s.

Anyways, that's just my 2 cents.

Re: Games Journalist Alanah Pearce Joins Sony Santa Monica

Turbodream

@Cyrus29 Yes, I would question the credentials if she was a man, woman, transperson, hermaphrodite, intersex, etc. because the article doesn't provide anything relevant and talks only about her e-fame.

Some people were kind enough to provide that info in the comments so my curiosity is satiated.

Re: Devastating Capcom Ransomware Attack Exposes Game Details, Employee Data

Turbodream

@ChilledAtGaming It is presumably the 2 great ace attorney games on the 3ds exclusive to Japan (Dai Gyakuten Saiban) with a first time localization. It would be bundle with the ace attorney trilogy again.

Capcom would probably examine a third collection with a translated Miles Edgeworth + the 2 last ace attorney games if it sells well. It would be consistent with what they did with their Mega Man collections.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Games for November 2020?

Turbodream

@itsMeaningless Reasons why PS+ is very average at best.

1) Most months 1/2 games are already available on PS Now. The 2 subscriptions clash and overlap. Not a great value for consumers. Not a great incentive for PS Now. As someone who like PS Now, that's a big negative.

2) They often offer games available elsewhere, like EA Play or they offer the vanilla version of a game with TON of DLC. Like when they offered the Sims 4. The base game is basically an ad for the dlc. Again, not a great bargain and borderline dishonest practice here.

3) The games are often old (several years) and previously often on sales so a lot of gamers already bought them. Most subscriptions services offer at least one recent game to balance the offering.

4) Until about 6 months, the PS Store had a nasty bug that prevented people to buy games claimed on PS +. I missed on several sales and I also skipped on claiming certain games because of that completely unacceptable bug that was fixed only this year.

5) The price. I get 10 to 12 games for 12 bucks every month with Humble Choice. And Steam doesn't charge extra for online gaming.

Re: Talking Point: Happy 20th Birthday, PlayStation 2

Turbodream

I first wrote a massive wall of text declaring and explaining my love for the PS1 and PS2 but then I said "***** it", I'm not old enough to be babbling about my "golden age" yet lol.

To be concise: my history with Sony

Consoles with their year of acquisition

OG PS1: 2000 (sold in 2003)
Fat PS2: 2003
PS3 super slim: 2018
PS4 slim: 2019

I still have that same PS2 hooked on my good old CRT. I still used it, even though I have a ton of last gen and current gen games to play. PS2 is my gaming "rock"and it's my favorite console to collect games for.

Re: Sony Admits Not Everyone Will Be Able to Get PS5 At Launch

Turbodream

I'm surprised and kind of disappointed by people priorities. We are in a global pandemic, on the verge of a terrifying and very nasty global economic recession and people still break sales records for a video game consoles. How the hell people can find that kind of dough without cutting on essential things like food and clothings for their kids? Is FOMO really that strong now in people's mind?

According to an october 2020 Axios article:

"A person who is looking for a full-time job that pays a living wage — but who can't find one — is unemployed. If you accept that definition, the true unemployment rate in the U.S. is a stunning 26.1%, according to an important new dataset shared exclusively with "Axios on HBO."

Re: PS5's Fan Will Be Adjusted with Firmware Updates

Turbodream

The first post is serious. Planned obsolescence is a thing. Look it up. Also Sony already do unethical things like putting rootkits into their music cds. That ***** can and has ruined several pcs.

The second one is a cynical projection into a possible future. You know banning consumers from enjoying the product they paid for is already something that happens quite often. Companies already try to brick your consoles with updates if you tamper with it (like running homebrew apps). Not a big stretch to imagine they decide to apply this to online behavior next. Just need a new TOS (terms of service) and maybe a bit of PR and a lot of morons will lap it up as a good "moderation" tool.

Re: PS5's Fan Will Be Adjusted with Firmware Updates

Turbodream

@theheadofabroom This is basically beta testing their cooling system with consumers. They should have already tested the PS5 heating in all conditions before the launch.

Also, it runs the risk of breaking consoles with a faulty patch. It's a very low risk but still very real.

Sony could also potentially makes your console more prone to overheating or just slower, etc just before launching the PS6, just like Apple do with their products ( they introduce updates that slow down their old products to the point of being unusable). It seems like Sony is trying to emulate Apple with their latest PS4 update.

Re: Raise and Battle Beasts in Monster Sanctuary, Coming to PS4 in December

Turbodream

@nookie_egg It's really difficult to "stylise" graphics to look really good when you are a small studio. People want gorgeous, not decent and that style is easier not to ***** up (and cheaper). Not every studio can be as talented as Dotemu.

May I also remind you that 8bits/16 bits style games can also be gorgeous. Shovel Knight anyone?

Re: FIFA 21 - A Step Up from FIFA 20, But Must Do Better on PS5

Turbodream

@TheFrenchiestFry Why would developpers try to improve their crap if it sells very well every year. They would be crazy not to sit on their asses, collecting the $$. Advertising is all they need to care about at this point.

It is very much the fault of a complacent press and of the mass of people with ***** tastes and narrow minds that we always get the same yearly crap.

Btw, in the 90s, each major sports had several competing franchises. We had much much more diversity in the sport offering. Just for example, for good hockey games: we had NHL FaceOff, NHl 2k, NHL hitz. Now, all we have is EA.

Anyways, why bother buying a new EA sport game when it will be in the 99c bin in 2 years (some things never change).

Re: Interview: What Does a Professional Trophy Hunter Think of the New Levelling System?

Turbodream

@Salt_AU Not a bad idea in theory, but in practice it would mean that most players would loose points down the line, since rarity tends to drop with time and accessibility (sales, giveaway, popularity). Sony would probably not want a system where some players can loose a level, espevially now that the scale is way bigger (1-999) (even if rarely happening).

Also, a game rarity can vary greatly just by the database you use. Sony rarity stats are always way higher (more rare) than dedicated servers like psnprofiles.

I have achievements on Steam that are marked as very rare just because the game I played was very niche.

Your system would probably just push people to play niche and obscure games to game the score.

Re: Interview: What Does a Professional Trophy Hunter Think of the New Levelling System?

Turbodream

@HellOfaHunter Well, people complaining about what games other people play are pathetic.

Ironically, the only bragging I see is from a bunch of insecure naggers bragging about the quality of the games they play.

I don't even know why you replied to my comment. It has nothing to do with mine. All I was saying is that people that like trophies like them because it's fun for them (for various reasons).

Anyways, nobody cares about your number of platinums. If someone want to plat Hannah Montana it's their prerogative.

Re: Interview: What Does a Professional Trophy Hunter Think of the New Levelling System?

Turbodream

@Vyns For me, trophies and achievements are a big metagame that I really like, just like you could be passionate about any particular game. The trinkets in themselves are pointless, but with resources like psnprofiles and metagamerscore it becomes quite addictive.

It's like playing an IRL version of a cool rpg where the grind is acquiring trophies and achievements.

It's also like an old school arcade game with the online leaderboards.

It is also like a sport game with all the stats and graphs you can look at: completion rate, number of trophies per day, average score, etc.

It is also like a cool logbook of your gaming adventures. Some trophies / achievements have cool memories attached to them and you can more easily get access to those memories that way.

It is also nostalgic for me because it reminds me of myself as a kid when I was playing Mega Man 2 or Super Mario Bros 3 again and again and I would give myself challenges to make the game more fun or to hone my skills. You now have resources like retroachievements so you can do judt that. You can play 30 years old games with added trophies via emulation. It can be a ton of fun.

Anyways, sorry for the wall of text. If you need to remember one thing, it should be that I like trophies because I find them FUN.
