Re: PS Plus Oversight Is a Bummer for PS3, PS Vita Owners

Topov81

I've been calling this out for years (and more recently the same issue exists with EA Play). Sony Customer Services cannot help, despite suggestions on various forums that they can revoke your license for individual games.

@get2sammyb - I've seen the option to buy one or two titles, but the issue is definitely NOT fixed on PS5.

I have the option to buy Destruction Allstars and Bugsnax, but not Worms Rumble, Oddworld Soulstorm or Control. I've redeemed, downloaded and deleted all five games on PS Plus.

Microsoft got this spot on with their "Buy To Keep" option.

Re: Pinball FX Is Coming to PS5 in 2021, But You'll Need to Rebuy Your Tables

Topov81

There's a bit more to this than has been reported. Yes the tables have been remastered with the new physics and graphics engine, but they also announced...

1. All existing FX3 tables with the exception of Portal and The Walking Dead will be made available for Pinball FX, but not all at launch

2. More will be announced in terms of pricing, with some special offers and bundles to 'soften the blow' for existing owners

3. The more realistic 'pro' physics and graphics mode (currently optional only on the Williams tables) will be enabled on all other tables

I'm a huge fan and own all tables, so I'm probably biased but also hugely disappointed that they won't carry across. I'd be happy to pay an upgrade fee, or even pay full price for the base game, but that wouldn't work for new players who would then also have to buy the tables as well. The only other viable option for them in terms of revenue would be a subscription model, which I definitely wouldn't want.

Re: Sony Shutting Down Mobile Match-Three Puzzler Toro and Friends

Topov81

Thanks, I looked for this when it launched and it wasn't available in my region.

@David187 - Toro is a PlayStation mascot but rarely seen outside of Japan and Hong Kong. A few themes in the PS3 era, and costumes for Everybody's Golf... and of course an appearance in Astro's Playroom which was a nice touch.

I have an import copy of Toro Let's Party on PS3, and still play Everybody's Putter Golf with Toro (also PS3).

Re: Rule 34 Means We Don't Recommend Googling PS5's Renzo Racer

Topov81

@jgrangervikings1 Nothing springs to mind, the last one I can think of was PixelJunk Racers but that was on PS3.

Super Pixel Racers (PS4) wasn't great, and had an isometric/scrolling view, rather than the entire track on screen. It reminded me a bit of Skidmarks if you remember that. Ultimate 2D Racing was also rather dull, also on PS4.

Personally I'm looking forward to Circuit Superstars later this year.

Re: PS5 Scalpers Continue to Scoop Up New Stock

Topov81

The trouble is, all this publicity is simply highlighting the opportunity to make a quick buck. So many more people (not just hardened scalpers) are now trying their luck as well.

The irony is there's very few, if any, "system-seller" games for PS5 - so my recommendation, despite having one myself, is not to pay the premium and wait until supply improves... but that could be a long time!

Re: Soapbox: I Can't Keep Up with Service Games

Topov81

I'm really enjoying Vigor, checking up on my builds and a couple of encounters each day. I spent a lot of time years ago on FUT & MUT but not any more. Plenty of single player games on the pile too (GoW, GoT, Miles etc), so I agree you just can't keep up with everything.

Re: PS5 Review - The Future of PlayStation

Topov81

Great write-up Sammy. A couple of questions...

1. Do you know the maximum size external HDD that the PS5 supports?
2. Can you comment on the PS+ cloud save data functionality?... is it the same as PS4 or can it sync automatically like XB1?
3. Does the PS5 have a hardware-based 'beep' when switched on, and can this be disabled?

Re: You May Not Be Able to Enjoy PlayLink Games on PS5

Topov81

I've got a few Playlink titles, strange that Sony wouldn't list these in the non-compatible list. Makes me think they might actually work after all (strictly speaking they are not companion apps). RDR2 on the other hand... the map feature was useful.

Re: DIRT 5, Maneater Saves Won't Transfer from PS4 to PS5

Topov81

It's quite apparent here who has first hand experience of both current gen consoles, and who doesn't. Let me add something which may help...

On PS4, although save data is automatically backed up to online storage (for PS+ members only), this is done outside of the game - they have no awareness of it and cannot access the online save data unless it's manually downloaded by the user, before loading the game. The few games that have cross-save functionality between PS3/PS4/Vita are using their own cloud storage, not the PS+ online storage.

On Xbox (for all users, Xbox Live not required), it doesn't just upload save data, it synchronises, ie. data is automatically downloaded if the cloud save is newer. That's a key difference. It also happens in-game, handled by the o/s, with no user intervention. I was genuinely impressed when I bought a Xbox One X last year (no experience of previous Xbox consoles, PS since 1995). It's like having the PS cross-save system, but implemented automatically for every single game.

So two very different approaches, one of which lends itself to cross-gen with little input/thought from the developer.

All of that aside, it doesn't explain why PS4 save data can't be used by certain PS5 games once you've copied it across manually (via online storage or USB). My guess is it's the way save data is held in specific SKU folders. The same reason why some PS3 & PS4 games have separate save data for digital and disc versions. Hopefully this doesn't become an issue when playing backwards compatible PS4 games on PS5.

Sorry for the long post, I hope it helps.

TL;DR - Xbox synchronises save data automatically, PS4 doesn't (who knows about PS5, that's pure speculation at this stage).

Re: 99% of PS4 Games Can Be Played on PS5, Says PlayStation Boss

Topov81

Still interested in why the 1% wouldn't work. I assume it's handling PS4 games natively (as opposed to emulation), so everything should run... I guess they're saying some won't be playable due to certain accessory limitations... but it has USB ports so mics, portals etc should be fine?

Re: All PS Plus June PS4 Games Available to Download Now

Topov81

I've previously been frustrated by the 'own' it on PS+ therefore can't purchase in a sale issue - also to be told by PS support they can't help.

It didn't occur to me that the same would happen with EA Access. I bought a 12 month subscription because because my youngest wanted to play Madden 20 (and it worked out cheaper than buying it) but now I realise I can't grab Star Wars BFII on PS+.... the whole situation is ridiculous. If Microsoft can do it (Buy to Keep) why can't Sony??
