Following rumours of a Ghost of Tsushima expansion named Ghost of Ikishima that made the rounds last week, a new ESRB age rating has been spotted for a Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut. This new version is listed for PlayStation 5 and PS4. Given the naming, we assume this would be a bundling of the base game along with the rumoured DLC, but that's purely speculation on our part at the time of writing.
Ghost of Tsushima was one of the first PS4 games to receive enhancements when played on PS5, but there was never a native version. Maybe this Director's Cut will take the open world epic one step further with full PS5 support? And then there's the Ghost of Ikishima expansion, which is rumoured to be set for an announcement during an upcoming Sony event. Whenever that actually happens is anyone's guess, however.

Man, Sony should just announce (and stream) their Presentation already before everything leaks
so like the spiderman remastered plus miles morales bundle?
fantastic!
i wonder if that means they will also offer the expansion seperatly like miles morales.
I hope PS5 native version will be free.
Announce the event! Announcement of Housemarque and Bluepoint acquisitions would have been big 'shocks' that would have worked well in that kind of format.
Actually seems like there would be a lot to show. Top of my head:
Ghost of Ikishima - Release date
Horizon - release date
Gran Turismo 7
God of War Ragnorak
Kena
Stray
Final Fantasy 16
Deathloop
Ghostwire Tokyo
Last of Us Remake / Factions
Little Devil Inside
Solar Ash
Expect there will be a trailer for COD and GTA 5 too due to marketing connections
@Rob_230 This potential list gets me excited for the coming months a lot more than anything I've seen during E3 (except for Elden Rings and Salt and Sacrifice).
A great mix of updated ports, expansions and new games. That shows how Sony is really in a league of their own relative to games.
@Rob_230 I think Sony's vision for State of Play is to have it focus around games and not the business too much. So more like Nintendo Directs and less like Microsoft. I'd much rather see them keeping up with that approach.
But yea, between Factions, Horizon release date, The Last of Us Factions, a release date for Ghostwire Tokyo, Ghost of Tsushima and information on Final Fantasy XVI, they have enough really big things to show.
I'd be shocked if Ikishima isn't real now. I wonder if Ikishima would add new maps or maybe even a new raid to Legends. Very excited either way Sucker Punch is top tier!
I knew it was a good idea to wait!
Hope that there is a free upgrade for owners of the original game. Maybe it’ll be similar to the FF7R situation where upgrade is free but DLC has to be purchased.
I'm about halfway through the second island and it already looks incredible!! Load times are great on ps5 with 60fps 4k. Would need a break before dlc, the game is good but also kinda samey.
If it's available as a standalone package, and not too expense, I'll probably get it. I liked Ghost, but I thought there was a lot more potential, so I'm curious to see what they would do with a spin-off/sequel. I thought the main game lasted a little too long, it became a lot more of the same by the point I got to the ''third'' map. Hopefully this expansion introduces something new.
I just pray that this is a FF7 Intergrade situation.
Ie this 'Director's Cut' is the bundle with the base game and expansion, meaning owners of the PS4 base game get a free upgrade to the PS5 version and then can buy the expansion if they want, like with the Yuffie DLC.
If not and they try to charge full price for a not even 12 month old game, then I will lose a lot of respect for Sony.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH DOCTOR!
I am all about this.
@blinx01 I was thinking the same thing.
@blinx01 Surely this is what they'll do. Though you'll have people on here complaining about how confusing it is lol
Damn it Sony, I have so much in my backlog already, and you're just going to drop something like this and make me play it all over again aren't you...
so this is the way sony are going to get people to double dip and buy the same game twice
As someone playing GoT on PS5 right now, I'm not even sure how much you can improve on it. The graphics are gorgeous, the lighting is stellar, the load times are mere seconds, and the frame rate seems pretty rock solid.
@Rob_230 that's a fine show! I hope we get something like this
oh hell yeahs, im gona explore all over again!
i just want ray tracing and controller feed back for ghosts on ps5 , along with the side game being confirmed.
I knew it! So glad I waited 😁😁👍👍
@trev666 unless you are stupid enough to buy day one, that's something I don't do anymore because of things like this lol
@Slippship its a great game
@jdv95 the rumors seemed to imply it would be fully standalone. Though they’re just rumors so ¯(ツ)/¯
Edit: that shrug thing doesn’t work on all platforms I guess lol
I truly hope the PS5 upgrade will be free. However, I don't know if I see the allure at replaying this story again, the gameplay itself does become repetitive, and knowing the story outcome leaves little incentive.
I honestly really wish this trend of secondary cash grabs via re-releasing a game or releasing stand alone DLC just to charge a higher than DLC price, would stop.
I would have much rather been hyped to hear of a sequel or new project from this team and supported it with a pre order knowing their quality. This title especially seems particularly blatant as the game ran great with the ps5 boost via backwards compat. No way we needed higher resolution as an impetus to get again when it already looked good at 60fps, unless they do a complete graphical upgrade to a better realize a vision hindered by last gen capability.
However for those that held out and would be playing for the first time, this is great!
@LTPenguin Of course the back compat wasn't going to stop the remaster. The way Sony is handling back compat is a cheeky way for them to still sell us remasters since it extremely limited.
Ghost of Tsushima does look great. I haven't gotten around to buying it yet, so a Director's Cut would be the perfect place for me to jump into it.
Really hope they ensure save data can transfer from the PS4 game. I'd quite like to start a New Game+ on PS5, but no way I'm playing it through again from scratch.
@mariomaster96 I prefer leaks, announcements are good but more often than not you over compensate for what’s actually going to happen and end up not overly whelmed
Better be a free upgrade.
Picked this up on sale for the PS5 not long ago. They would have known this was happening, on purchase they should have a system that pops up saying "We notice you are on PS5, there is a PS5 version of this product in the pipeline, would you still like to purchase this PS4 version today?"
@nessisonett wait for what exactly?
@middyone ….to play the game? I’d rather play a complete edition.
@nessisonett yea me too. I haven't played yet either. Hopeful we get a free ps5 upgrade.
@Rob_230 +1 all of what you said, but focusing more on the AAA titles.
They can do a separate stream that is geared 100% towards the indies.
@Digit2021 if they did that the remaster and re-release market wouldn't be as big as it is now 😂😂
so no they are not gonna stop you from double dipping, unfortunately you have to make judgement of that for yourself, most of the time it's a gamble but what can you do
If true, glad I waited.
I put 124 hours into this game (single and multiplayer) and got the platinum. I would absolutely do it all again in a native PS5 version with DLC. I'd plunk down a full $70 for it too. Truly one of my all-time favorite games. It was a dream to play a game version of my favorite samurai films.
I really liked Ghost of Tsushima. I'm looking forward to the sequel.
