Re: PS5 Game Boost Trailer Raises Eyebrows

Pretty nice. On a personal level i am completely satisfied with 60 fps, so it really does not bother me too much that PS5 BC cannot do more on frame rate for older titles. Save 120fps or better for the newer titles.

Re: Returnal (PS5) - Housemarque's Deep, Dark Shooter Is a PS5 Must Have

Eadgar

This might be controversial, especially given the issue of pricing. I have never bought a Housemarque game at launch, and thus feel responsible for the comment they made a few years ago about arcade games being dead. I have always bought their games when on sale because I am always late to the party, but Housemarque games have never disappointed me. Nex Machina, for example, is an amazing experience and so is Matterfall.

Here is the controversy, i do not own a PS5, but i will buy this game at the asking price, and at launch because I am not that bothered by it, eventhough i understand the concerns about pricing from gamers, but I am also buying it as a way of saying thanks to Housemarque for their past games. They deserve all the support that will be coming their way, and i hope this game can be a great starting point for them as they increase their brand awareness and status within the industry.

Best of luck to them in the future and i hope the people who play this game on the PS5 enjoy it. As for me, it will be in my library until i join the PS5 army.

Re: Sony Backtracks PS3, PS Vita Online Store Closures

Eadgar

Excellent news, but this is just the beginning. We all know the PS3 is the so called "ugly duckling" of the PS family (given how it is the only console to not cross 100 million units sold worldwide), but the PSN started on said console. If Sony is finding it difficult to keep it alive due to technological reasons etc., they must find a way to integrate it into more modern technologies. But removing it should never be an option.

Re: Days Gone Director on Skipped Sequel: 'If You Love a Game, Buy It at F***ing Full Price'

Eadgar

While he makes a valid point, actually more than valid, it is completely true from the perspective of game development, the way he delivers this message is completely wrong and rude.

I am of the opinion that game development costs need to be scaled back for the majority of developers. Most gamers cannot justify the recent price increase, so developers must scale back development. I imagine most gamers would be happy with game experiences not exceeding a particular time frame, that way they can finish the game.

But this is just my opinion.

Re: Why You Should Download These Free Play At Home Games

What are the chances Astro Bot Rescue Mission will be playable on PlayStation VR II, or any of these VR games? I do not own a PS4 VR and do not plan to, however, PlayStation VR II has me intrigued and would not mind playing Astro Bot Rescue Mission there.

Re: Soapbox: PS5 Has Turned Me Into a Total 60FPS Snob

Eadgar

I like it that they give options, so the consumer can choose which is their preference. I know, or rather, have read articles that state that developers always prefer resolution over frames. That is what they prioritize during development, to an extent. As one who is developer first, I respect that, and will always continue to support developer preference.

However, me personally, I will always choose frames over resolution. So when a developer gives me an option, a choice on which I would like to prioritize, frames or resolution, I am always thankful for that and i hope this continues throughout the generation that way both parties win, developers and consumers.

Re: Sony Buys Fighting Game Tournament Evo, Evo Online Confirmed for August

Eadgar

From a personal perspective this is a very exciting move and one that makes sense. As a fighting game connoisseur it is also a good fit. For years Sony has seemed as the de facto FGC platform, along with the growing PC market too.

Really excited for what the future holds. I was actually going to go to EVO last year to compete in SC VI but Covid-19 happened.

Re: Oh, Okay! PS5's Deathloop Looks Freakin' Rad

Eadgar

@Medic_Alert That has always been a shame to know. I adored the Dishonored franchise and am sad to see it go away, but business is business no need to moan. I do wish Arkane well in it's future endeavors, that is the studio that will be missed the most in the Microsoft acquisition, in my opinion.

But you are right their games never lit up the sales chart, and that was not due to their quality, people just where never interested for some reason. Which is why you always hear the argument that most Bethesda games do not sell. It is partially true, and from a fan of Arkane it was always sad to know of this.

Still, really happy Bethesda kept supporting the studio and franchise and allowed them to make three games in the series regardless of sales numbers.

Re: Cory Barlog Admits He Had 'No Idea' What He Was Doing When Directing God of War 2

Eadgar

Amazing game. I first played it and the first God of War on the PS3 with the God of War collection. These are a few of the games i actually achieved a platinum throphy (not a trophy hunter my any means).

I still have to get around to God of War (PS4). I have it still sealed, along with Bloodborne and so many many more. I hate having the money to buy games but not the time 😠

Re: Future Bethesda Games Will Ship 'Where Game Pass Exists'

Eadgar

I have been quite glued to the screen reading everyone's comments and i have to say I love that passion that has been shown from both sides. Say what you will about console wars and fanboyism, but one can clearly see that there is an inner fanboy in all of us, whether you would like to admit it or not. We all have a preference in which one of these two companies we want to see succeed and it is that passion that you have for said company, whichever it may be, that drives these companies to compete for your money and time. It has been quite entertaining and enlightening reading these comments because you can clearly see which person sides with whom.

Congratulations to Microsoft for the successful acquisition. They are providing their loyal fan base with content that will make them happy to be a supporter of Microsoft. It is now up to Sony to determine what logical step is required to not only combat the opposition, but keep their own loyal fan base happy.

Granted they do not have to do much because of how well they have done for the past seven years and how well they still doing. Whether you want to admit it or not Sony, with the PlayStation brand, is the mecca of gaming, have been for the past two decades but it would not hurt for them to do something huge to keep driving this point across to the masses. Not sure if an acquisition as ambitious as this one is imminent or needed, but I will look on with tremendous interest.

Re: All PlayStation Studios Games on PC

Sony should release their own PC store/launcher, cut out the middle man as it were. Maybe they will in the future, i am sure people will not mind adding another launcher. I myself use two, steam and GOG for example.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Games for March 2021?

Eadgar

@Wormold @DrClayman

There was an update, a couple of years ago if I recall correctly, that corrected the issue of not being able to buy a PS Plus game you owned through the service, if and when your subscription to said service ended. It basically allowed you to purchase the game, finally correcting that flaw that was associated with PS Plus.

There was even an article about it here on Push Square. So you can lay your fears to rest of this is a worrying issue for you.

Re: Reaction: Japan Studio's Disbandment Is Disappointing, But Not Surprising

Eadgar

I remember reading an interesting article, some time ago, about why Sony does not develop first-person shooters as part of it's first party portfolio. The reason was interesting and based on marketing research i presumed at the time. Basically, it was because it's first person shooter offerings where largely ignored compared to the more popular options available in the market. Titles like Call of Duty, for example, which clearly outsold Sony's offerings. Sony deemed it necessary to use it's resources in other, more successful places as opposed to developing its own titles only for them to fail in the market. That is why they have partnerships put in place, mainly with the third-party publishers and developers, to make PlayStation the home of that particular popular franchise.

If you substitute first-person shooters for JRPG's, to the above example i explained, and you will come to the same conclusion as to why Sony maybe has done this with Japan Studios. The JRPG's that sell are, for example, Final Fantasy and Persona. Both are with companies who have a partnership with Sony to make those franchises be at 'home at PlayStation". So you see, it is kind of the same, Sony spending it's resources on better uses, like partnerships with third-party developers and publishers whose genre of development do better and are more popular than anything Sony would develop. It is pretty smart i think.

But of course this is just an opinion of mine based on the readings i have done, and came to this conclusion. Would be interested if many agreed with me or disagreed with me. Cheers!

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About PS4 Exclusives Being Ported to PC?

Eadgar

Personally, i am trying to get into PC gaming and am trying to decide if I have the space available for it, or just get a gaming laptop. My question is actually,

What are some of the challenges Sony would face is they just released these games using their own store front?

Would it not be more profitable to just use your own store front on PC, and make the games playable on PC? Or is this what Sony is working towards, as they increased the library of playable PC games?

Re: PlayStation Boss Reiterates Strong Ties with Japanese Developers

Eadgar

The vast majority of my favorite game development/publishing companies happen to be Japanese, so this is great news from a personal perspective. As long as these companies keep developing for Playstation, I will keep gaming on PlayStation. Long may it continue.

Truth be told, it has been like these since the PS1 era, and the Nintendo fanboy in me quickly realised PlayStation was a must going forward. As long as Sony does not do anything to alienate Japanese developers (i do not think they are that stupid), PlayStation will always be a must own.

Re: Mortal Shell, Hunting Simulator 2 Prepped for PS5 Release

Eadgar

Mortal Shell is fantastic. I highly recommend it to those of you who enjoy the "souls-genre." I also think it is a great point of entry for those of you who are disillusioned with the difficulty of the genre, as this game is not as hard as the souls or nioh games for example.

Re: NieR Replicant Looks Sharp in 9 Minutes of Uncut PS4 Gameplay

I am currently playing the original Nier on my PS3, just to get ready for this version which never made it out of Japan. It is my first playthrough of the game, as i have had it for years shrink-wrapped, part of my backlog. Really happy Weiss is the same voice actor, as he is amazing.

I am holding out hoping that Square Enix can produce more of the white snow editions. If any more become available I will per order the game.
