First, it was Horizon Zero Dawn, now it's Days Gone this spring. Then, a "whole slate" of PlayStation 4 exclusives will be ported to PC. As part of the GQ Magazine interview which confirmed the news that Deacon St. John would find a new home on the personal computer, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said that the platform's fanbase had no "massive adverse reaction" to the PC port of Guerrilla Games' newest IP — he quite clearly hasn't been reading some of your posts in the Push Square comments section then. We joke, but how do you honestly feel about what appears to be a large number of former PS4 exclusives now making their way to PC?
Do you agree with Jim Ryan's assessment that this opportunity can "expose those great games to a wider audience and recognise the economics of game development"? Or do you believe that Sony should be keeping its first-party titles to itself so that the PS5 and PS4 remain must-have purchases? Ryan said this was a "fairly straightforward decision" to make. Now you need to make your own verdict in our poll and expand on your thoughts in the comments below.

It doesn't affect me personally. And like I said before, I just hope it doesn't bite them in the arse in the long term. It feels like they're chasing short term profits, and are not really thinking of long term consequences. But maybe I'm wrong.
I'm firmly in the "so what, why should I care where anybody plays their games" camp
It's great. Don't understand what the hubbub is about regarding "muh exclusivity"
Like yeah exclusivity is cool and as far as consoles are concerned they're still technically exclusives, but releasing the PS4 back catalogue this way and selling the PlayStation brand to the PC audience will only help Sony gain a larger audience of people in the lead up to PS5s being more readily available worldwide
It was actually pretty smart of them to release Horizon on PC like right before announcing Forbidden West at the PS5 June Showcase last year
Now bring Bloodborne and Spider-Man please. I will double dip on the former and triple dip on the latter thank you very much
Plus, and I don't think people realize this but Horizon and Death Stranding aren't even technically the first Sony-published games to make it to PC anyway so this has been a thing for years (Nioh & Nioh 2)
I can't even begin to describe how little I care. Well, would you look at that.
Perfectly fine for me, it would be something different if PS games release on the same day on PC as they do on PS. But since PC user have to wait a few year the PS4/PS5 is still worth it
@TheFrenchiestFry You could also see it the other way around. Some may avoid the PS5 entirely because they're signaling that every game will make their way onto PC at some point. But which one is it? I don't know.
Not a good move.now pc players and others expecting every games to comes. To pc. Sony is following microsoft too much.word up son
Unless they make clear they have the approach of old gen games to PC and never day and date of current gen, I do not like that. Just because it seems like a slowly death from 1000 cuts for when they will do date and date and therefore stop designing games based on console hardware only.
It’s a great thing, more people to play the games and they’re so many years down the line that it really doesn’t affect much. Plenty people just prefer a console.
Don't like it at all, keep Sony owned studio games on PS only.
Want to play them then buy a PS just like the rest of us.
Well, now you don't need to or so it seems, all their 'exclusives' will end up on PC. Apart from maybe Naughty Dog titles, I'm not sure they're too keen on seeing their work being modded to high hell on PC.
I have no issues with this. More people playing these game is fine by me.
Was the PS Plus game supposed to be announced today at 4:30? Or are they saving it for the state of play?
I think it's good for sony but voting "I love it" would be a stretch - honestly I don't really care
No issues with it though
Why would a game maker cut the earning potential to 25% of the market.........If I made a game I would want 100% earning potential...........Exclusives benefit one company it does not benefit Gamers.
@Octane As it looks like right now the games making it to PC so far are just PS4 titles. If anything I don't see the other outcome happening because positioning PC releases of their PS4 library ahead of potential new games or to gauge interest in them is actually a pretty smart move from a marketing perspective
Like release a first party game for PC some years down the line after its enjoyed success on PlayStation and accumulated enough sales in that department, the PC people buy into that game, and more support for that series just comes out of it showing that more people are getting interested in what else PlayStation has to offer as a platform, and that could potentially further drive those PC-only people to dip their toes into more of Sony's dedicated hardware and games in the future
It's a win win for PC people interested in PlayStation, as well as giving the games more exposure. I don't see this ending in people just deciding they don't want a PS5 because they'd rather wait like 6 years into the future for a PC port
I like it, Dreams should be released on PC as well
It’s ok, but I have confidence that Sony are smart enough to do it with older games only.
As Sony survives on number of consoles sold etc etc. Also it’s good that Sony Studios focus just on developing the game for PS4 / PS5 so to get the best from the console.
Conversation development 2 years plus later to PC is ok then.
I don't honestly care. As long as I can play them on console that's what ultimately matters to me. I'm fine with others getting to enjoy them as well.
Sony are smart they do this so a PC only gamer might when the next game in the serious is released pick up a PS5 to play the game.
Like HZD FW.
Glad to see almost half of you are sane.
What does it matter if more people get to play these great games years after launch.
I’m a little bit mixed, I think it would be nice for a core few games/properties be PlayStation exclusive, but they don’t all need to be. What feels a bit weird though is when the definitive edition isn’t on PlayStation. I don’t know. Doesn’t really bug me too much. I play on console as it’s just more convenient for me and my kids, coming out on pc won’t change that.
Why not when a game has gone through its service cycle on PS (i.e. DLC and a few years of being on PS), then put it on PC after that
If its two or three years like it is with Horizon and Days Gone its fine. If the PC version comes out same time as PS version? That's a no from me!
Such is my apathy on this issue and my lack of understanding of those who are dead against PS games going onto PC, I decided to finally add a profile picture
There's so much work that goes into these games it really seems a shame not to make more of all that time and effort. This way more money comes back into the PS ecosystem from people that most likely wouldn't have bought a PS anyway. Also it's unlikely that it's going to be any PS5 games that leverage the new hardware as that support isn't necessarily going to be available on PC, lots of people out there are still using slow mechanical hard drives etc. There's also plenty of people like me that aren't ever likely to own a PC and actually do prefer console gaming.
Nearly 2 years of exclusivity to PS was more than enough for me personally.
A bad part of me is slightly resentful, but why shouldn't other people get the chance to play the same great games? It does me no harm.
If I switched to PC gaming it would be for the mods, not because of exclusives or lack thereof.
Will it be worth me buying a PS6 in the Future then SONY!?!? If I can just buy a PC and play all the PlayStation Exclusives and xBox Exclusives on it then in the Future??? Hopefully Days Gone will sell nothing on PC and SONY will forget about wasting their time and money doing PC ports.
As with Horizon, it makes perfect sense to release these two titles on PC so it lures new players for the second outings of the IPs. Both titles already had their momentum and shipped so many copies. I think it’s okay for these two to be PC games.
Also, are studios that are porting games to PC affecting the development of new games?
Would the Horizon sequel have been released by now or at least have a confirmed and impending launch date if they hadn't been working on the PC version?
Will the sequel to Days Gone be delayed due to porting the original to PC?
Is the answer to both is yes then it's clearly NOT a good thing.
We live in very self-entitled times though. I'm okay with the idea of having to own a Switch in order to play Mario or Zelda or an Xbox should I wish to play Halo. It seems that both Sony and Microsoft want to push gamers to PC. Nintendo remain focused on consoles, which is good, but I don't really like their games anyway so they're not an option for me.
I don't have a PS5 yet, maybe I should wait and see what else they are going to do. I reckon one day they'll release brand new games on both PS5 and PC. It will happen and when it does that might be the final nail in the coffin of Sony as a maker of consoles and they'll focus on software only.
Time will tell I guess.
Doesn't really bother me as PS Plus is still giving lots of reasons to stay with the PS5 and having the disc version I can still make most my money back after completing it.
If it got to the point where it wasn't the case and I could play God of War Ragnorak less than a year later on PC for £20 like with Death Stranding (though I think that was largely due to it being quite a polarizing game - was 5.1 on Metacritic until they deleted 6000 reviews) I'd probably just sell my PS5, so I win either way.
I have no qualms about it whatsoever. It's good for Sony's business, and good for gamers. A win/win by my view.
@Col_McCafferty Considering Forbidden West likely shared development time with the PC port of the first game I'm pretty sure there's absolutely nothing to worry about in regards to Sony's PC output affecting their time spent on new games
And for that second one that's even assuming they are planning a sequel to Days Gone. It might be a one off thing or maybe if the PC version does well all that money will be put towards making a second game since now they're convinced it could live on as a series
This will cost Sony a fortune in the long run. And time will prove it.
I hope my comment isnt misunderstood for hating on PushSquare or Idk 🙄 . I'm just expressing my thoughts.
I voted I hate it but I dont really hate it. I wanted to vote I dislike it but that option says 'I dont feel the need to buy a PS5' wish is weird considering those are PS4 games. And I have a PS5 anyway.
Edit
I wish there were two parts.
1 facts: do you approve or do you disapprove.
2 Speculation: What you do you think are the consequence? Option 1,2,3,4
As a fan of gaming and not just Sony, this ticks all the right boxes for me.
It’s more about the games than the console and having more people having access to those games is a good thing. Sony still makes money and they reach an audience they may not reach without branching out so win-win.
I also love my PC only friends being able to enjoy some of Sony’s amazing games.
At this point, I welcome it. More people get to play some of the PS4's best games, and it entices more people to buy a PS5 for the sequel.
Not happy.
Not happy at all.
I'm writing to my local MP, whoever that is, as we speak.
I personally like it. Like what others have said, more people get to play these great games. Even if they did release on PC the same day as consoles, I'll still have a Playstation. I like being able to sit on my couch, boot up my system, and start gaming.
Nintendo keep their IP on their own consoles. Seems to work well for them. I'm sure they'd make even more money if they released Zelda and Mario games on other platforms but up to this point this doesn't interest them.
Sony make enough money, it's not as if it's a choice between releasing their 'exclusives' on PC or going bankrupt is it. I don't care about other gamers, if you're rich enough to afford all platforms then great but I suspect most don't and choose one or two over the other options. If this is where Sony are heading then so be it but I'm not a fan.
I am fine,I just wish Nintendo would start to share some of their exclusives with us.
I don't mind, but only if this should not hold back games designed to fully utilize the PS5 hard so it then can be easily ported to PC at some point. Other than that, maybe just wait 3 or 4 years before making its way onto PC... it's ok.
@rachetmarvel good luck with that - Nintendo barely even deign to drop their prices more than 25% from the original RRP after several years (been keeping my eye on BOTW for a couple of years, eventually I'll just have to fork out but in the meantime.. backlog!)
Doesn't bother me one bit. More people can play the games and it helps the devs.
In as much as I have an opinion, I'd say it's a good thing, since increased sales should theoretically mean increased budgets for 1st party studios and with them more ambitious games.
Otherwise, since I'm not a myopic and insecure baby, I couldn't care less
@Col_McCafferty The difference with this and Nintendo is that Nintendo is first and foremost a GAMING company only
They solely rely on their dedicated hardware and the software for that hardware to stay financially afloat
They may be in a position where they could probably do something like Mario or Zelda on PC but they choose not to because the gaming consoles are their sole business, it's what money goes into developing, it's where their games show up, and it's where they generate their revenue
Sony and Microsoft both aren't just PlayStation and Xbox. They don't really live and die by their console business like Nintendo does. Microsoft is probably in a much better position financially to pull something like integrating PC into the Xbox space off, but Sony is likewise, not just PlayStation. Their core audience will stay even if they've chosen to branch out to a newer audience. Odds are they already have the audience for the PS5 sorted out, because they're mostly PlayStation fans, so branching out to PC to look for a new audience considering that platform isn't in direct competition with anyone is going to benefit them a lot
Sony already have my money from Bloodborne, Spider-Man, God of War etc. If they want to bring them to PC with unlocked frame rates, they can have my money again. If you’re spitting your dummy out at this mentality, ask yourself this; do you have shares in Sony? If the answer is “no”, you may want to re-evaluate your life.
It's good for business, but bad for the PlayStation brand itself.
My Problem With This Is If They Are Going To Start Releasing Games On The PC At Least Give Those Same Games a PS5 Upgrade Patch As Well So Playstation Gamers Don't Feel Like They Are Getting the Shaft.
@JustPlainLoco is it though?
It’s games that are one generation behind, and I don’t mind that. If you are a PC gamer that wants to wait years for a PS exclusive to come to PC, more power to you. It’s not going to affect me in any way regardless.
I would love for them to release all their exclusives on PC. Then I wouldn't need to buy a Playstation anymore and just focus on a gaming PC. One machine to play everything would be great!
@DiddyWahDiddy Same. Even with five options in the poll, I didn't have one to choose, because I just don't care. I don't even think of the PC when I think of gaming, basically. As long as they keep making games that I enjoy for Sony, it doesn't matter.
lol
Works for me. It kinda sucked having to own a PC AND a PS4 to have access to the various games I wanted. With mainline Persona looking increasingly likely to hit PC, and with Sony's stuff hitting PC, I likely won't need to bother with home consoles next generation, assuming Nintendo doesn't stray from the hybrid format in the future (which I don't expect, considering they appear to have trouble enough supporting one HD device, let alone two).
Here’s an idea, how about no platform exclusives?! It’s an anti consumer practise and I hate it.
The overall value of a company is not based strictly on profits. Risk taking is. Everybody benefits from Sony growing the PlayStation brand while also increasing profits. It will result in better, more varied games.
Looking at Xbox as a precedent, I don't think having "exclusives" also on PC is a big deal.
HOWEVER, I feel that Games Pass making all Xbox exclusives free on launch day has been devastating. Xbox exclusives are now few and far between, and worst of all they are so painfully mediocre (with a couple exceptions). So instead of exclusives people are happy to pay $60-70 for, you have a bunch of free games that are so average you might not even want to play them at all.
Compare that to PlayStation cranking out several high-quality AAA per year. As long as that doesn't change, I think the PlayStation brand will retain its value.
Unless you own a PC then it doesn't matter to you, it's not taking your game away and it's just Sony making more money. For me it's kind of cool to be able to play them on PC, Horizon Zero Dawn has never been better then playing it at 60fps and above
I guess the message is keep your PS4, don't bother getting a PS5 and start saving up for a high end gaming rig.
@carlos82 PS5 is capable of doing that and yet so far HZD hasn't been upgraded. Maybe they've been too busy porting the original to PC.
🤔
Once these games enter bargain bin territory, I would like to see them go to PC (2 years) and then XB (3 years) as well. Why not?
Well, I don't see how porting to PC draws people into the Sony ecosystem. They'll make money off the extra game sales but that's about it. In fact, numerous people have already stated if this becomes the norm they won't have a need for a PS console anymore. So you increase software sales but diminish the value of the console in the process. Or so it seems to me.
TL;DR - it doesn't make much sense to me but eh, what do I know.
@Col_McCafferty regardless of the logic, which is sound, very few mainstream customers will trade the ease of consoles for a complication that is gaming on a PC (for all normies).
I don't really care. I've never really been a fan of PC gaming so I'm never going to play these on PC anyway — especially when they're launching years later.
If it helps grow the brands and means we can get even bigger, better sequels on PS5, then it's all good.
@LiamCroft A suggestion if I may. The polls options don't quite feel representative or balanced to me. The last two options are too personal. I think the arguments against it are good, but I don't feel less of a need to buy the PS5 or offended about it going over to PC. The option above is about the arguments while it immediately becomes a personal thing and not about any sort of potential platform effect below.
As such I don't believe I can vote because non of the options presented are accurate or fair to me and lot of other people with concerns.
@get2sammyb I Just Want Them to At Least Upgrade The PS Version As Well I've Lost Count Of How Many Times People Having Been Asking Guerilla Games To Upgrade Horizon.
Wheres the i dont care either way option. I think most sony fans are just mad the cant use the lame argument of "Oh Ya But BuT XboT ExclusiveZ are AlsO oN Pc" argument anymore....
@Col_McCafferty it certainly is and it does wonders for the game, also has nice touches such as the plants now reacting to your presence. Now we've seen a few PS5 upgrades I do wonder why Sony didn't think to get more of these ready across its studios for launch
@Areus Death Stranding as well. Game came out first on PS4 but still hasn't been upgraded for the PS5.
PS owners are being treated like second class citizens but some on here seem to be fine with that. Baffling.
I like the idea. Bigger audience, bigger studio budget blah blah. Plus it shows Sony as a game development studio rather than just a hardware manufacturer. I'm just waiting for the stones from those who disagree now...
@Alpha_Pulse if anything it's the people against this who are receiving the most abuse.
@TheFrenchiestFry maybe this means days gone 2 is coming soon then, don’t know how the ending was so I can’t comment on the continuation of the story
Personally, i am trying to get into PC gaming and am trying to decide if I have the space available for it, or just get a gaming laptop. My question is actually,
What are some of the challenges Sony would face is they just released these games using their own store front?
Would it not be more profitable to just use your own store front on PC, and make the games playable on PC? Or is this what Sony is working towards, as they increased the library of playable PC games?
@carlos82 too busy porting games perhaps.
😉
Last of Us Part II needs to be upgraded for PS5 but hopefully it hasn't been done yet as they're busy on Factions and not because they're porting a ND game to PC.
@stinkyx Xbox exclusives were sparse and mediocre years before GamePass was a thing, though. If anything, their exclusive offerings are only going to get better this gen, and they'll all be "free" for subscribers.
@Eadgar Sony offering games on their own launcher AND on Steam wouldn't be a bad idea. Ditching Steam entirely would probably not be a popular move, though.
Would this impact sales of the console though if people knew they would come to pc in the future.
@Octane every game? So TLOU, Uncharted, Bloodborne, GoT, infamous, R&C, GOW, Until Dawn, Spider-Man and many more are all on PC? I want what you’re smoking.
@Eadgar Like what Microsoft have done with game pass? That would be pretty cool tbh. Good opportunity for Sony to get more gamers but ultimately I believe they’d prioritise the sale of their hardware over software sales.
It just seems strange to me, I can either buy a PS5 and a Xbox Series X to play the games that come to both consoles (and miss out on games that are exclusive to pc), or I can buy a gaming PC and get it all. It’s one of the reasons I haven’t ordered a PS5.
@Areus Agreed, that would be nice.
I'm all for a game being made/optimized to it's best ability and if that means being exclusive to a platform, sometimes that makes sense. Far too many times the reasoning is 'money' and that isn't cool. Hopefully the frequency and concept of platform exclusives is dead before me.
@theMEGAniggle Have you read the article. A "whole slate" of them is supposedly coming to PC.
@Ralizah Yes that is what I meant, use their own launcher, and cut out the middle man as it where. I am sure there are challenges to this option but if more Sony titles are going to be playable on PC, i would think Sony would consider it, maybe.
@TheFrenchiestFry You can't put Sony and Microsoft on the same level. Sony is not like the old days anymore and without PlayStation, cannot survive.
Why would you ask??? Ar you guys going to do something about it???
The only good answer to that poll is the last one.
dumb idea.
Sony's got a great lineup of exclusives. it's what sets them apart from the rest. i think they should stay in house and if folks want to play these great titles they should buy a PS and come on board
@Sinton money for switch, xbox series x and ps5 is probably less than price of 3080 right now, never mind the rest of the set up.
Edit,
Talking nonsense! I've confused going rate with rrp, ignore me lol!
@Grimwood you will need a playstation still if you dislike pc gaming..
munches on popcorn watching the comments
Unless games get pulled from the store, Cyberpunk-style, they haven't 'gone' anywhere. So what difference does it make?
I think this could be good but...all the games will be ripped and uploaded on to torrent sites and downloaded by the people who wont support the devs by putting the cash down for legit copies so i see this as a double edged sword..
As long as there is at least a year of exclusivity on the games.
They're old games. Now if newer games started releasing at the same time, on pc and ps, then there might be some noise.
I feel, for someone like me, PS5 is pointless at this time.
There's few games on PS5 I can't play elsewhere. PC or PS4.
This wouldn't put me off in the future of getting a PS5 and buying games that potentially could come on PC.
There should be one more option on the voting choices: “I could care less one way or the other.” I would care if they started coming on new releases but old games, don’t care.
@Northern_munkey was that a prevalent problem with hzd on pc?
@Mpquikster
Totally agree. Look at the rubbish mess Xbox is in for doing that and the Halo Infinite mess up.
Sony consoles for Sony studios only.
A few years later, a little cheeky port to PC is ok.
I like to be bit provocative at the time being; Why not release them on Xbox or maybe even Microsoft Game Pass (or maybe even Switch - they made Doom Eternal run quite well on that).
That way even more people would be able to enjoy Sony's first party masterpieces, GOATs or whatever. Why only PC? Come on release them on every platform plaucible!
It just makes good business sense. Get new interest in dead games just in time for the sequel, which can only be played on PS5.
More people get to play them which is great and doesn't take even a sliver of the enjoyment I had away. Literally insane to me that people actually get upset about it.
I disapprove but it's not the end of the world.
Obviously there is even less reason to buy a PS4 but I dont really care about it and it will be discontinued even faster now anyway.
PS gamers often support the studios by buying games day one. Its even a more important investment now on PS5. Doing so you imagine they will give the love back by focusing on the sequels for the games you love on your console.
It's a bit disheartening to see not only one team is busy porting the same game to other platforms for the sake of making even more money (yea dont give me 'oh they do it just to make more people happy' ; the motivation is greed) ... so not only one game...but quite a few ports are in the work using not negligible resources and that will need support for updates and fixes.
The bottom line is I wonder why I should support them at that UK price on day one if they are so passionate about focusing on other platforms.
If this bothers you then you are petty and small minded. Everyone should get to enjoy games like HZD and Days Gone. Or even GoW if that ever ports over. Get over yourself.
I'm definitely mostly "I love it, more people get to play these great games"... "but I do have some reservations".
Not all games should be made cross platform, exclusives ARE still important and for larger titles a sensible amount of time should have passed. Other than that i'm all for it. Gaming is for sharing.
Not a fan, the big draw of owning a ps4/5 is the exclusives that you can only play on them while others wish they can play games like Last of us or Uncharted. Seems like Sony is selling its true fan base out
@PhhhCough its a very big problem with most games on the pc unfortunatly..
The thing that keeps me from buying consoles and their games (other than the switch) is the poor hardware so I'm happy.
Now if only Nintendo would do the same...
No matter the arguments, I just can't not see this as Sony throwing away their brand identity for short-term profits. I'm sorry, I just can't. And once again, unlike with MS who at least acts like putting all of their exclusives on PC benefits Xbox owners, we PS owners are really getting nothing out of this deal. All we get is first access to the inferior versions of Sony's own games. So....hooray? Hell, I'm already seeing tons of PC gamers thrilled at the notion that they won't have to buy a PS5 after all this gen or bother with any Sony hardware anymore because they'll now have access to Sony exclusives as well. So yeah, there's your adverse reaction, Mr. Ryan.
Also, I find it very interesting that most of people who are okay with this appear to be focused on the caveat that at least Sony is only putting games on PC years down the line. So my question is, what happens when Sony does eventually do day-and-date PC releases as well? Because I do think that's just the logical and obvious end point of this. Sony will only become less and less committed to supporting their hardware, and so long as Jim Ryan is willing to pretend that there's absolutely no downside to it, he will happily transition to PC releases that get closer and closer until they release on the same day as on the PS5.
All I'm saying is, there are reasons to not be okay with this that go far beyond "Sony fanboys just don't want to share their games!"
It concerns me where this is headed. I worry that it is the beginning of these companies turning into streaming-only and not developing hardware at some point in the future.
In for the ohh no you can't play with MY toy!
What does it matter if it goes on pc YEARS after release?
I for one don't care. Playstation games coming to PC isn't gonna stop people from buying the system. The few the people that go "OH. I don't need to buy a Playstation now. HA!" Are the people who have no interest or very little interest in buying the platform in the first place; and was gonna wait until the system was dirt cheap anyway.
Doesn't matter as long as current generation still maintains exclusivity, otherwise it would be useless
Don't really see what the problem is with it, it is not like every PS exclusive is coming to PC day one.
Most of the people according to this rigged poll love it
Me like: reality can be disappointing
I wish Nintendo fans will think the same and we might as well get everything on PC that would be fair
Fab idea. Since I don't have energy to watch every minute when a PS5 is available I'm settling down with new PC and it's been a blast!
@JohnnyShoulder for now but you wait, one day a Sony game will come out on both platforms for day one and done on here will merely shrug.
@art_of_the_kill Totally agree.
Also, what happened to competition being good for gamers? I heard that when it came to an improving Xbox but if all Sony games are going to another platform what's the incentive in making their games the very best they can be?
One day they'll release a Sony 'exclusive' day one on PC as well as PS5 and that will be the nail in the coffin of consoles. Not the final nail of course but just the start of it.
So to all the PC nerds, how much would it cost in order to obtain a rig of equal specs to the PS5? How much am I looking at paying in order to future proof it?
@get2sammyb better sequels? More like delayed sequels. Delayed upgrades as well looking at HZD and Death Stranding despite these both being first released on PS4.
PS owners are being treated like dirt and yet some of you are happy about it!
@Col_McCafferty We can only go on what is currently happening, not might or might not happen in the far future.
"PS owners being treated like dirt" - C'mon man, I've always thought you been quite reasonable on here, but I think you are being a bit over dramatic with all of this.
@Col_McCafferty probably at least a grand..probably more if you want the games to at least run how they were intended..
I love that the PS-community (at least here on Push) are pretty chill about sharing the love. I am all for it, but limitied exclusivity would still be good.
@JohnnyShoulder we are though, the definitive version of HZD is in PC. Why hasn't it received a PS5 upgrade yet? It was released nearly four years ago now, there really are no excuses.
@Northern_munkey yeah that's what I thought. Problem is even I could afford a proper rig I'd likely end up just playing Football Manager on it!
don't really care that much, but conversely, couldn't care less if they never went to PC either. you could always choose to buy a PS4 or not..buy a nintendo or not, play on PC or not. any choice inevitably means missing out on some games, and accepting the choice.
still think it's a dumb idea.. but no skin off my nose if it all blows up in sony's face. it's too early to tell whether there is any "massive adverse reaction" to it.. and once they're on the slope, reversing gear is difficult.. a lot of the decisions taken lately are baffling. a bit like some of the justifications espoused - horizon was 3 years old, days gone is 2 years old, death stranding wasn't a first party game anyway.. etc. etc. what happens if (when?) its £70 pricing strategy backfires spectacularly, and the messaging changes from "new audiences" to "recouping development costs" and the releases are much closer together.. even if i can afford it, i'm not paying 70 quid for returnal — so if you've got a lot of dedicated playstation gamers willing to wait 6 months to get it on a sale, they'll wait 12 months to get it on PC instead. selling games on PC doesn't bring them into the playstation, quite the opposite. and really what's the point of PS Now on PC if they're just going to release native ports?
i don't play on PC (because windows), so i'm seeing little benefit to playstation gamers.. money to make more playstation games?.. it's already taking much much too long to make games these days imo as it is.. studio bend has been porting days gone for PC. it's not going to be done once it's out.. it's going to need a support team on the PC version for months. when's the studio's next game gonna be, 2023, 2024?? there is also an aspect that some games actually do better because they are exclusive games. sony's more likely to use the $$$ to moneyhat exclusive content from third parties.. so on the one hand you've got "expose great games to a wider audience" while on the other keeping non-sony content from a wider audience. wtf???
Most people don’t understand anything. It’s not a matter of choice, there’s no choice.
The one and only interest of a console are exclusives, otherwise the console doesn't need to excite.
This is why xbox consoles are useless and Sony is stupid enough to make the same mistake.
It could have been logical, if sony had its own OS but it doesn't even have the case, they will release them on windows.
That’s the stupidest way to kill itself.
This deserves a Darwin Awards.
@leucocyte Exactly, at least with Days Gone Bend managed to upgrade it for free on PS5 but this news means a section of their team have been working on the PC port instead of a new game. Then there will be the inevitable patches and stuff that HZD needed on PC. More time and effort and staff working on something that doesn't concern PS gamers.
God of War will be next, maybe they're already working on the PC port which will lead to delays on its sequel. How does that benefit us??
@Col_McCafferty No excuses? Maybe Covid 19 has effected them more than people realise and they are busy working on the sequel. I would rather the sequel be released this year, then it be delayed because they were working on a four year old game.
@JohnnyShoulder They managed to release a PC port last year as well as work on patches and fixes. Maybe they could've been working on delivering a free upgraded PS5 version is they hadn't been concentrating so much on the PC release.
😒
Honestly I'm neutral about it. However Sony needs to be more honest to their customers instead of lying to their base about ONLY ON PS sticker then year or two they release it for another platform. That is false advertising regardless how old the game is and why should console players pay full retail price from the actual brand but pc gets the entire game with dlcs and expansions 20 bucks cheaper? Just an example.
Sony needs get rid of the ONLY ON PLAYSTATION sticker and actually be honest with the base but of course they will never do that cause the hardware sales. And I'm pretty sure Sony will release newer games same day on release day on pc. And this generation the ps5 will be limited in hardware which means Sony is killing the console slowly and moving towards pc and have their own store onto a better platform.
I buy Nintendo systems to play Nintendo franchises and the quality they offer. I buy PlayStations for the quality they offer.
We don’t know how far Sony is going to take this.
Depending on how they handle this, it could make PC players want to buy a PlayStation to play the rest of its games but if they start offering a ton of games on PC it will hurt console sales.
Overall, I don’t like it.
Also, if original 1st party devs are working on these PC ports, IM DEAD SET AGAINST IT. I’d much rather they be working on sequels.
@Col_McCafferty - because you can almost bet that the PS5 version of Horizon Forbidden West will come in a special edition that includes a "remaster" of Horizon Zero Dawn and priced at sony's new £70 RRP (since HFW is on PS4 and has a free upgrade, the base version will be less). i don't think it'd be as easy as just patching the PS4 version to run with the PC enhancements if played on PS5, but i agree a PS5 version should have been made available as a free upgrade at launch of PS5.
if you want specs similar to a PS5 in a PC, it will be about triple the price.. the most basic RTX20* is going to cost the price of a PS5 alone. plus sony's proprietary ssd tech is a little bit ahead of anything in the PC market. but i'll be honest, apart from spiderman where the loading is lightning fast, "improved load times" haven't been that impressive in some games.. so i don't know how well optimised games have been for this up to now.
@OmegaStriver What gets me is that Sony actually lied about not all exclusives are heading to pc or any platform. It's like they are killing the brand slowly cause not everyone will get a ps5 this year or maybe next year which my opinion is that Sony is limiting ps5 hardware this generation and slowly killing the console.
It begs the question, why not port it to Switch and Xbox? Just because PC isn't a console, it doesn't mean that it isn't competition.
@leucocyte Yeah that's what I thought, it's going to cost a lot more than a PS5. I'll probably still end up buying a PS5 at some point this year as I really want to play HFW as soon as it is released.
@Odin1985x I feel its hard to figure out how much money they will make or lose with these decisions.
Days Gone for example, will get sales on PC but at the same time could cost them a sale of a PS4 system down the road when it’s cheaper which leads to sales in their digital store that they get 30% from on each sale regardless of the game.
I don’t have all the numbers but this looks like short term profits that could cost them down the road. If they make a habit of this there will definitely be more people that will convert to PCs. People talk about how expensive PCs are but forget that a large amount of gamers are 25-60 years old that can afford it. I’m in my mid thirties and can afford to convert to PC easily but I love Sony games and am sticking with it for now but if they keep moving more and more over, why not convert. PC covers Xbox, Indies, Mods and now, for the moment SLOWLY adding PlayStation games. If this speeds up, I may make the jump in the future and they’ll lose future console sales from me.
I’m just one person but I’ve owned, a PlayStation, PS2, PS3, PSP, Vita, 3 PS4s and now 2 PS5s. I buy multiple for my kids. So, it’s not a huge loss if they lose me, but those numbers will add up if more join in.
"Only on PlayStation" becomes "Also on PlayStation" and not even "Best on PlayStation" either because the modular nature of PC allows it to always remain on top by brute forcing performance.
Quite a slap in the face to PS fans who bought consoles on the promise of being the only way to play these exclusives then later to find that these versions are/will be inferior in every way to their PC ports while being cheaper with no PS Plus multiplayer requirements.
Horizon, Death Stranding and Detroit still run at 30 fps on PS5 while their PC counterparts are 60 fps and there's no sign that these games will be patched to run at 60 fps either, at least for free with Guerrilla's resources being shared on patching the shoddy PC port and developing the sequel.
Personally, I'm okay with Sony's C-tier exclusives like Days Gone, The Order: 1886, Knack, Concrete Genie and underperforming games like Dreams and Gravity Rush getting a new lease on life on PC to generate some revenue to put back into big budget development for PS5.
But if games from Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Polyphony and Santa Monica end up on PC (highly sought after critically acclaimed games), I would see no reason to ever trust Sony to treat their hardware owners right and will just permanently move to PC where I know I will get the highest quality visuals and performance from these games.
Also, the gap between PS4 and PC release is shortening, from Horizon being 3 years to Days Gone not even being 2 full years. It's inevitable it'll gradually shorten even more until it's day and date.
It's sad to see but I think at this rate Sony will go in the way of Sega and just become a multiplatform publisher, meanwhile PS consoles will still be bought by the casual FIFA, Fortnite, CoD crowd, sales from the hardcore fanbase will dry up as they migrate to PC to enjoy the best experience with no restrictions.
There should be an option for "Eh, whatever. I'm fine with it, but don't care."
@OmegaStriver Yeah I agree and there hasn't been a upgrade on HZD for ps5 yet so idk why they rather fix the pc port then the ps4 version to upgrade it on ps5 right there it's taking out the time and resources from the console port and who knows if Sony will ever upgrade it at least Days Gone was upgrade before the ps5 was released.
If this comes a thing I will jump ship myself and just upgrade my pc cause exclusives should remain as exclusive as it was advertised. With Death Stranding the game was supposed to be a ps4 exclusive but rumored to a pc version but not confirmed but what's shady is that Sony announced the pc version just 2 weeks before the ps4 release like ouch that sucks who has both pc and ps4 and bought it for ps4 that right there is bad business practices.
Jim 'Lying' Ryan needs to be honest to the community and have a plan to what's going on. He's more pro PC than the actual console.
@HeeHo don't mind me, I just want to show some love for your avatar and handle 😄
On topic: if any of you thinks that a couple of game on PC means the end of Playstation, well, I don't know what to tell you.
People in the real world buy Playstation consoles because of the brand and they buy it for FIFA and COD.
99% of people isn't even aware that this is a thing, let alone not buy a PS5 because Horizon is on PC.
I just wish that the PS5 and PC version will be released on the same day or even months and not years. Now, the only console I might buy is Nintendo Switch lol.
The more people who can enjoy a game, the better. Exclusivity sucks and I hope that in the future we'll get a unified, flexible format that everyone makes their games for (sort of like PC is now, but in console terms).
Also, I find it quite hypocritical that Sony wastes money securing 3rd party exclusives while they themselves are going 3rd party with these PC ports and MLB the Show on Xbox.
The age of true 3rd party exclusives is over, it will never be like the PS2 era again, there's too much money left on the table for 3rd parties to be locked to one platform. Sony should be focusing on their 1st party studios making exclusive games instead of wasting money on stupid things like first access to RE:Village teaser demos.
That Avenger's Spider-Man exclusive was a massive dud; wonder how much was wasted on that which could have gone into 1st party studios.
It was hilarious seeing Final Fantasy XVI being announced as "1 year timed exclusive" Sony basically signalling their viewers that you can totally skip PS5 if you can hold out 1 year and get a better performing version on another platform, which will probably have better ray tracing abilities etc.
There should be an "I don't care" option because, ummmm, i don't care!
Not getting a PS5 cause I can play these games 6 months or year later on PC or sign up for PSNOW for a month.
@Octane or be on PS NOW at some point.
I don't really care seeing as i still play all my multiplats on ps and would continue to do so but i am curious to see how this all looks years from now
Clearly there's barely any difference right now as the ps5 had the best console launch after they put their bigger and better ip (HZD) on pc and already stated more would follow too. But who knows how that'll look when this "slate" of games move to pc. Oh well, back to playing multiplats on my ps4
@clvr It is not the end of PlayStation, but if Sony keeps releasing their games on PC, PlayStation will turn into xbox which is not good.
My two cents: I think it’s a good move because parts of the PC community can be VERY closed off and have the mindset of “I guess I’ll just never play Horizon: Zero Dawn” but now this gives them that possibility. I don’t think PC is 100% a competitor I think it’s a hybrid one part competitor but also one part somewhat of a walled garden.
Dumb strategy imo. The only reason Playstation kept at the top all these years is for the sick exclusives
Hi there fellow gamers.
As a fan of videogames ever since I first played one, the only thing I have cared about, is playing awesome interactive gaming experiences.
And because of that, and because I had the financial possibilities, I was able to play a multitude of games on different platforms, with different brands.
Having said that, the reason I bought those different platforms was because of something that still holds value to myself and many others......
And the reason is EXCLUSIVE GAMES. Great and excellent exclusive games.
Why would I buy an Xbox 360 to play Gears of War, Lost Odissey and dead or Alive 4 if could play them on a different platform that I already own?
Why would I buy a Nintendo Switch to play Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 if I could play them on my Playstation?
That is exactly the same reason why I will not buy an Xbox Series X, not because I hate Xbox, on the contrary, but because I already have a High end PC and all Xbox games are also on PC, either on Steam or Epic.
And there are so many sales, I don´t even feel the need for Game Pass on PC.
And let´s be honest, Sony Playstation has been on top for quite some time, not because of their online, not because of PS Plus and not because they have the most powerful console system.
Wanna know the reason?
I´ll give you a hint.... It starts with E..... and ends with XCLUSIVE GAMES. Excellent and awesome exclusive games.
That´s it. That is why. And it is the only reason people buy different console systems. Well, that and some of them look cool and/or are portable. There is that.
Now, I think I get why Sony is doing this.
In my mind it´s like this:"Hi PC gamers, here´s Horizon: Zero Dawn, a PS exclusive game. It´s good, right? Want to play the sequel? Then we have an awesome product for you: PS5."
"Hi again PC gamers. We have a new one PS exclusive game for you. Days Gone. It´s good, right? Want to play the sequel? We still have that great product for you named Playstation 5."
I know it´s a long post, even for me, but I just think it´s a little weird seeing PS games on a different platform.
I´ve witness this on the PS3 and Xbox 360 era.
And yes, I want as many people to play awesome games, and to have great experinces with them and to talk to other people and friends to share that experience.
I mean, that´s what I like to do with my gamer friends and even non gamer friends as well.
Oh well, just my personal take on the matter.
Cheers, stay safe and happy gaming to us all, with whatever gaming platform you have
@RaZieLDaNtE classy as always, you're right that exclusives matter. HZD was the game that made me plump for PS4 over Xbox One last gen and in doing so this lead to other great gaming experiences like Uncharted 4, God of War and The Last of Us Part II. My two favourite games last gen were RDR2 and The Witcher 3, both of which I could've played on Xbox but these were supplemented greatly by Sony's offerings.
Xbox exclusives don't interest me and Nintendo will never release their big games on another platform but I'm not keen on their IP anyway. As for PC, are there any great exclusives on there? I've not heard of any at least none that are nominated for GOTY.
I don't think putting their games in PC will help the PS brand nor attract new customers in great numbers, if anything it may have the opposite effect. Competition is good, no? That's all I've heard over recent years especially with regards to Xbox. Some may want one platform to emerge victorious and have s monopoly on gaming but I don't think that's a good thing. We all want there to be plenty of quality third party developers out there that don't target any one platform but exclusives do matter, they should matter. It seems Sony think the opposite and I think that's a crying shame.
I don't like it, it make sony like any others 3rd party games and make ps5 less special. Besides, if nintendo make powerful console or at least near powerful console with 4K and have all 3rd party games and still have exclusive and we can get ps exclusive on pc, it's more practical to have nintendo console for 3rd party and exclusive, and play ps exclusive on pc.
I don't know why sony copy the losers console strategy (xbox one) rather than the winner (nintendo), make exclusive for console, and make mobile games for casuals gamers money. Even when wii u is a bust, now nintendo make bank selling $60 port of it's exclusive, I don't think it can happen if nintendo suddenly porting all of wii u games to pc.
And yes, I do care about exclusive games, that's why I choose ps1 and ps2 over the others console, and choose xbox 360 over ps3 in the earlier part of previous gen, I only bought ps3 after it's $300 and get, you know, great exclusive games like metal gear solid 4. If I know the game will be ported to pc, I don't think I'll buy ps3 back then and play it on pc instead. Oh, and the reason I like ps4 is because it's got a great exclusive games.
Not fussed, it just means more money in their pockets for Sony and the game developers. This means even better games in the future produced due to having more funds. It's actually a win for the Sony players for the future.
However of further note, they really should then release a free update to HZD with graphical updates of the higher setting of the PC version then. PS5 should be able to run Ultimate PC settings or even the one below that. PC Medium was PS4 Pro settings.
You know who the real losers are? The PS4 owners who upgraded to PS4 Pro believing that was the only option for playing Sony exclusives at optimal settings.
Sony promoted the PS4 Pro as the optimal platform to play games at better frame rates and resolutions and was inferred to be the only way to get these upgrades for exclusives.
And with this news of more PS4 titles to come to PC, they effectively made the PS4 Pro redundant to the "pro" crowd they were targeting in the first place.
I wouldn't blame burned PS4 Pro owners now becoming reluctant to take the plunge into PS5 after being betrayed once already.
@Col_McCafferty Hi there friend, how you doing? All good on your end? Still enjoying Ghost of Tsushima? Let me know when you finish the game so you can tell me about your "ending" 😉
Yeah, exclusives do matter.
Maybe not for everyone, but for a lot of people they still do.
And of course competition is good.
I mean, why would Microsoft´s gaming devision buy Zenimax if not for having a huge catalogue of games under their wing, right?
Playstation have lost quite a few exclusive franchises along the years, especialy during the PS3 and Xbox 360 era, and that still happens now.
Even so, it has gained quite a few others in the meantime as well. And really great ones that we love and enjoy.
It´s all business. Wich it is.
As for PC games, it´s not really about exclusive titles, but more on lots of many different games from lot´s of different gaming companies and budgets, from Indie devs, to third party triple A franchises do come to PC. Almost every single week there is at least a new one. It´s kinda crazy.
The reallity is, even during the PSone era, you could see some PS games on PC as well.
It´s nothing new, really.
But here´s the kicker: I still have my PS4 phisical copy of Yakuza Zero, and you know what it says on the cover?
"Only On Playstation"
Just like the title of a song I like to listen on the radio,
"Ain´t That a Kick in The Head".
If I´m being honest, all I want are great and amazing gaming exeriences, from talented studios worldwide. Story, Narrative driven games, Racing games, Platform games, Role Playing games, Open World games, Shooting games, Fighting games, Action Adventure games, the whole shebang.
And I want them to be great, fun, engaging and exhilarating experiences that we want to spend hour talking about them, just like I do with Movies, Tv shows, Books and Anime.
Especialy now, when everyone NEEDS to have some fun and distracting in these dire times.
Cheers, stay safe out there and have a good one
If this means more money to "organically" expand or M&As, I'm all for it.
I'm over the "build a PC to play that game" phase - I did that back when CD-ROMs were cool new tech that nobody had, to play Betrayal at Krondor with CD-quality background music. Epic. Did it a few times after that, too. But I'm done.
And as a happy PS5 owner, I don't care too much if some of these great games also hit PC and let more people in on the awesome.
But if Sony starts doing day-and-date with PC for first-party titles, then we have a problem. If they start doing less than a year of exclusivity, I think we may still have a problem. You don't take the time to truly optimize a game for the specific hardware of a console if you're ALSO spending time making it generic enough and adaptable enough to work well on the thousands of combinations of hardware available in the PC space - we know this is true because we see it in the difference between multi-platform games and PS-specific games, time after time.
But let's face it - there are a lot more PC's out there than there are Playstations, which translates to a lot more games sold if there's a PC version available, and a lot less than a full-blown development cycle needed to port the PS game to a PC edition (especially since post-PS3 the console hardware is so similar to a PC). So make that money on those low-hanging branches, and sink it into development for even better first-party games - that benefits PS in the long run, I think.
Bloodborne and Demon's Souls PC port begging intensifies (from me.)
NINJA APPROVED
Haha that 49% tells you how mature the community is, sad really.
@Octane What are the long term consequences of releasing say, old PS3 and PS4 games on PC?
@clvr Thanks!
I see you're also a man of culture gif XD
Absolutely great!
@Rokoqc I know right, imagine buying a console to play exclusive games. Lets get all the nintendo games on playstation, one big happy family.
I mean, it does make the Playstation a less enticing prospect if you know you can just wait a couple of years and get whatever they have on your PC, in addition to what Xbox has, but as @TheFrenchiestFry said, Sony has more than just the Playstation, so they can probably afford to lose a few hardware sales, especially if they can make up for it with the increased software sales these PC ports bring, so I doubt they'll stop any time soon.
Exclusives sell the hardware, if I can just wait 2 years and play it on a PC, why buy a PS5?
@Col_McCafferty yeah, not to mention, folks on PC would have a chance to play those games FOR FREE through piracy.
It’s great that these games are getting ported over to PC to reach a new audience, it can only be a good thing. To those of you who are upset about it, let me ask, why are you so bothered? How is it actually affecting you? Is it going to affect your enjoyment of the game on your preferred console? It shouldn’t otherwise your just being a petty fanboy and it’s actually pathetic. Sony won’t care how you feel about it if it’s going to be making them more money, they are a business and they will always put money before your happiness.
It is terrible move
This slowly will weakening the value of thier console. Now i feel owning a ps5 is worthless.
This is all about the money
And there is a lot of ways to make profit without sacrificing the value of the brand.
Sony will not attract pc players
Because most of pc players have shifted from ps4 to pc
So they aren't going back to ps and buy ps5
Oh i miss Andrew house leadership 😔
What about development time? Sony making games on another platform is time taken away from making you know PlayStation games. What happens when PlayStation consople sales numbers fall? Install base is a important factor and gives a platform a lot of extra advantages. There are millions of people that play on more then one console. Sony exclusive games drive these people to include it as a system seller to them.
Also the arguement 'so more people can enjoy' doesnt hold. Anyone can get a cheap PS4 these days. As if PC gamers are poor and they have a high end PC because they cant afford a PS4. It's the other way round.
The only arguement in favour is 'Hell yea, Sony can make more money' 🤷♂️
If that's the case then maybe Sony could have a decent price for PS5 games so the actual fans who struggle can afford the games.
2.
The game will perform better on PC?
Make a proper PS5 port then if better performance is the arguement
@BloodNinja (sorry for the long post) It depends on what you define as ''old'' games. Days Gone isn't even two years old. So I wouldn't really say it's an ''old'' game at this point.
The long term consequences are that people may avoid the PS5 and wait for the games to come out on PC. If they sell less copies on the PlayStation console, Sony may be incentivised to release them even sooner on PC.
And for me it all boils down to the fact that, in my opinion, first party exclusives are generally a lot better than other games (be it Sony or Nintendo). The difference is that a company like EA makes it profits by selling you a game, followed by nickel and diming you at every instance. Whereas Sony uses their games to advertise their hardware, and they make a lot of their money from royalties collected by sales of third party games.
In essence, this allows Sony (or Nintendo) to experiment a lot more with their games, and give them the extra time to polish them. Would a game like Dreams or The Last Guardian be released under Activision, EA, or Ubisoft? I don't think so, those games weren't even profitable by themselves. Would they allow a company like Naughty Dog to spend this much money on a game, or would they implement a stricter budget with limited development time? I think there's some merit in that having a game to be exclusive to a system (for a long time at least; 5+ years).
It's like how a lot of people say MTX don't bother them because they don't buy them, but I think often the game as a whole is compromised to serve MTX. After all, if you aren't incentivised to buy them, what's the point of having them in the game?
I personally don't know if a future, where consoles don't exist, and every company is a third party company, would result in the same amount of quality games that we have right now. Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I think this is something that deserves a little more thought.
@Octane All interesting ideas, I'm not too "in the loop" so some of this stuff is new material for me. I'm assuming from context that MTX = microtransactions? Yeah, those need to go. MTX almost always appear in games where there is some kind of grind, and then they use it as an excuse to slow the grind so much that, eh, I might as well pay $9 to get max level or whatever. It's gross. Personally, EA has been on my boycott list since the early 2000's, haven't bought a single of their games since that time out of principle. Any EA game I once owned got trashed. They just aren't good for the industry.
In terms of your experimentation section, I'm gonna give that to Sony. They seem more willing, whereas Nintendo first party games feel forced into their usual formulas. I literally don't have to buy the next ten Mario games, because we already know it's going to be varying degrees of running to the right, while collecting coins and touching a flag pole. Oh, next time he will wear a dog costume. Wow.
Sony wins in that regard, big time. They seem to be more willing to take chances with new and unusual things. Nintendo actually has felt like they have been in a rut. They are kinda like the guy at work that does his job so well he never gets promoted, because they don't want to lose his efforts in his current role. They don't have a high ceiling for growth, in terms of creativity.
I hope we never reach that dystopian era of all cloud-based, games as a service, no consoles...that sounds so sad.
NINJA APPROVED (of the conversation, not the dystopia)
@JJ2 The "more can enjoy" argument seems to hold pretty solidly. Actually, not all people buy consoles because they don't want to invest in a high-end gaming PC. Many people will buy both. It's fairly common to own say, a PS4 and a PC, so that you get all your exclusives on each machine. And if there is any overlap, it's also common for people (like me!) to get a physical copy of a PC game they may own that also happens to be on PS4, like Skyrim or Dark Souls.
So, different strokes for different blokes, as the saying goes! Yes, there are definitely people that get into console gaming because it's cheaper, depending on how you go. Though, with the cost of PS5 hardware and games, I would say that they are pushing mid-end PC gaming setups at this point.
NINJA APPROVED
its very good more games for everyone , the time has to go on exclusives , all games on all formats.
@BloodNinja
Yes I know not all people buy consoles because they cant afford PC gaming. What I mean is a PC port isnt aimed at gamers who struggle with money and everyone already CAN play the PS4 games if they wish so
As long as Jim boy sticks to PS4 games for the next few years it's fine.
@BloodNinja Well, yeah, Nintendo's efforts in the last few years have been... minimal. At least Zelda and Mario were fresh takes on the series. They used to be a lot better than that, I give you that. Most of their current output is literally recycled Wii U material.
The point of the comparison was to show that I think it's no coincidence that Sony's games are often GOTY material. Because of the fact that they are exclusive games, and in a way they exist to advertise the console itself, they don't always have to be extremely profitable.
For what it's worth though, Jedi Fallen Order is a brilliant game. EA had reportedly little influence, so that may explain it, but Respawn did a great job. If you're into Star Wars, it's a must play.
Wait are there 6% of us who actually have issues with being able to SAVE 400/500 bucks instead of having to spend them?
@Octane Is that the one with the red headed main character? I must admit, that was a very hard pass. If EA seems to be more hands off on it then I may give it a go.
Thanks for the fun talk! Sleepy bye bye night night time, now lol
NINJA APPROVED
@BloodNinja Yeah, this one: https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1172380/capsule_616x353.jpg?t=1612286346
It looks and plays brilliantly on PS5, no MTX either.
Devalues the PlayStation consoles, but if Sony plans on going head-first into services like MS it makes sense.
I think it's actually a good move. it's not like they're bringing HFW or GOW Ragnarok to PC. What Sony is doing is giving the PC community a little of what they can have if they join PlayStation. so if they play Days Gone and they like it, they'll probably wanna play Days Gone 2 and how can they do it? they've gotta buy a PS5
... it can only be a good thing.. the more people who play any game the better... it strengthens the franchise, it makes the games more successful (which means the developers get to do sequels and new IPs). It's totally win/win. I honestly can't understand anyone who says PS exclusives should only be on PS... it's just fanboyism gone mad. The more people who buy and play Horizon = Horizon 2 and new IPs from these great people... end of.
@BaldReaper47
I know this arguement makes sense when you consider how long they have to wait and how passionate gamers they can be to feel the urge to play ASAP. However you have to consider there is a good number of PS4 games being ported at the same time and giving an opposite signal as in 'hold on, exclusives are coming to PC'
Literally couldn't care less. Next question!
I personally think it's a good idea. More money for developers means more money and resources for development to make better games.
this is so annoying to me because exclusives being on other platforms is only a good thing. if they have a larger foothold, they will make more money, leading to better sequels.
I love it! The more people who can play a game I love the better.
Also anyone upset by it is an absolute childish unit and needs to grow up. It doesn't hurt you, it doesn't dilute your experience, in fact it has absolutely zero impact on you at all.
As someone who bought a PS5 instead of upgrading my gaming rig, there are a lot of people here making nonsensical arguments.
PlayStation exclusives were maybe 5-10% of why I bought a PlayStation. They were the icing on top. It's done pretty great icing, and I'm enjoying it a lot now, but it didn't really sway my choice. It's easiest to break this down into two parts.
Why did I buy a console?
Why PlayStation?
That last point might mean a few people might buy a different console in the same circumstances, but most PC gamers have a lot of disposable income and will probably buy all the consoles if they're interested. I only took the leap because I became disabled and no longer have the money or the energy to have PC gaming make sense.
PS: some of the arguments going on in this thread really damage some people's claims that this is a great community…
Well doenst bother me what goes to PC as i prefer using my console , They games on PSN like Horizon or Days gone can be bought for nothing or free on PS5 , Sony can charge 50 quid on PC thats good revenue stream to put back into PlayStation
This argument is going around in circles now but I will say that those against this have been insulted far far more than those that either don't care or think it's a good.thing.
Reign in some of the abuse please chaps, we each have the right to express our opinion.
Personally I think this move has and will impact upon PS gamers and that it's only a matter of time before an 'exclusive' is released day on on both PS5 and PC. We who have actually purchased a PS should be the priority, not those that have chosen a different platform.
That's how I will continue to see it.
The thing I am worried about is that Sony boasted so much about PS5 unique hardware architecture but if games will be created with multiplatform in mind how much of this special technology will be utilised. Are we going to be experiencing poor optimisation of the games?
My personal opinion is that , while I like exclusives, once a game has sold all the consoles it will, and has reached peaked copies sold, why not port it to another system or PC? I'm not sure where you determine a game has sold all it can on its original system.
@Col_McCafferty People saying that those who are against it are pathetic, childish etc is justified because it’s true, it’s hardly an insult. Yes your entitled to your opinions but the way your all going about it are really coming across fanboyish. The question remains unanswered, how is this going to impact you as an individual? Are you really going to worry and lose sleep if there are less PS5s sold? Or that you may have to wait a little longer for a new game to release because the developers are porting a game over to PC? Please get over yourselves 🙄
In the long run it will most likely be a good thing for PS5 owners, whatever extra money Sony makes with last gen exclusives on PC could go towards making more bigger and better games. It’s not like they are releasing PS5 exclusives day one on PC, they are porting over last gen games from the PS4 which will probably be discontinued within a few years time. Those who bought a PS console have always and still have priority with exclusives releasing on console first, it’s just last gen games are getting ported to PC. I don’t see what the problem is when most have already had their fill with the games on PS4.
@MaccaMUFC More insults. I and others have explained where our issues lay with this but you and others continue to put your head in the sand.
PC ports shouldn't be a priority especially not over upgrading a PS4 title to PS5 nor the development of a sequel. It's pretty obvious that's what is going on. Does it kill me to wait even longer? No. I'm fine with developers taking their time and making sure their games are complete upon release especially during these turbulent times. This is different though.
If I'm having to wait even longer for a game to be released because the developers are working on a PC port then yeah, I think have the right to be a bit cheesed off about that. PS players should be the priority, I fear that we no longer are and instead are being taken for granted.
Where’s the option for “I literally do not care one bit”?
I can’t believe it’s even a discussion that lasts more than an initial shrug of the shoulders.
If they release games 2 to 3 years after ps thats fine,if they're gonna use the funds to make more ps exclusives who cares ,but to release a game on another platform same day would diminish the playstations brand value in my opinion, I feel this is too important for Sony to happen.
Much like anyone else, my concern is the reduced value of PlayStation as a platform in the long term.
That said, PC has an established business model of maintaining games available for purchase no matter how old they are, which works for me since PS4 has been my favorite console so far, and Sony is only starting with the "platform library" concept.
I also enjoy the fact that selling older exclusives to more gamers might enable a lower price tag in new releases or reduce the price faster.
Someone else having the ability to play a game doesn't impede my ability to play a game. Don't know why anyone would possibly care? Is the game any less fun knowing more people can play it? Console wars are over, grow up.
If Playstation games stay polished as exclusives are.If its easy to put it on another system as they say it now is and it doesnt take away focus from Playstation games quality then its good stuff.
Perfectly fine with it. Only downside, PC games will give PlayStation games a bad reputation with bad ports. For example Nier: Automata and their constant complaining lol
Unfortunately this is the case with all PC games. Since there's so many setups and systems, there's always going to be bugs and constant issues. As to why, if a game releases on PlayStation it is worth getting on PlayStation, than PC.
There are guys out there with like $3K gaming rigs running Minecraft all day. Giving them more games isn't going to matter because of my first sentence.
It does not matter. And the fact people are so willing to invest in a PS5 shows it.
You could play 16 out of the 20 best selling U.S. games in 2020 if you own a PS4. It was the most of any console.
Access to the most top games for the money - that is why I tell people to buy a PlayStation first - exclusives (timed or forever) are just gravy.
I'm fine with it. If I have most of my games on one console and there's one exclusive game on some other system that I want to play, I'm not going to drop the big bucks for that system for one game. Even pre-owned consoles command $300 or more and I'm not paying that much for one game.
Porting old games is a great idea. But it will be interesting to see whether they port system sellers like Spiderman/GOW/TLOU2, as I can't help but feel like that diminishes the value of owning a Playstation
I personally hate it. How is it a console exclusive if you port it to PC or another console?
@Col_McCafferty Well there’s not much you can do about it other than just to suck it up because Sony have already put plans in place to port PS4 exclusives over to PC and I doubt they’ll just stop there as some PS5 exclusives could also be ported a couple of years after release.
Going by all the comments here, you seem to be in the very small minority that is against this and unless there’s an overwhelming backlash like people boycotting by not buying PS consoles, Sony will just carry on porting PS exclusives to PC.
Don’t get why anyone would hate it really, doesn’t make sense. If you have a PlayStation you can play the game. You don’t see people on Xbox complaining about games being on PC, and theirs are released day one.
@MaccaMUFC That is true, nowt I can do to prevent it.
Maybe on here but I don't think this site is as representative of the larger PS community as some might think. Maybe. Be interesting to see what the reaction will be when a major PS5 'exclusive' is released day one on PC and is better than the one we get.
Man, lotta comments, I gotta get in on this...!
Sony is a company that have been successful in this game for quite sometime now. Of course they do projections and research into this stuff. They wanna make money. They will have weighed up the potential loss of profits from one platform against the potential new profits and brand exposure from another. They will also have researched what proportion of both markets cross over - how many people have a PC and a PS4. Each release will be considered in this way. As a PS gamer you will not be loosing anything. Why would Sony shoot themselves in the foot like that? Some people are staunchly consoles, some are staunchly PC, all gamers want to play the latest and greatest games they can as son as they can. This strategy is far more likely to drive more PC owners to buy a PS, than the other way round.
I don't really get such feverent, illogical support for a company. I worry about people who make a corporation part of their identity to the extent that they can't think logically. Many here are saying this is the beginning of the end for Sony. What tosh. I support the games and the people who make those games. More people being able to play great games is a good thing for gamers and Sony.
@Col_McCafferty I can understand that concern, but I think the only scenario in which Sony would put a game out simultaneously on multiple platforms was if they pulled a Sega and got out of hardware all together. As a hardware seller, yes, it would be a bad idea for them to cross-release, but it's never gonna happen, so no need to worry about it.
However, I've been wrong before, so, for the next five years or so, I'll keep a hat nearby at all times.
@JohnKarnes Aren't platform ports often farmed out to 3rd party developers? I've no idea if HZD was and DG is, but that's how it usually works, so no loss in in-house dev time.
@Octane Thank you! Ok cool, yeah this looks like a good Star Wars game. Have a good day!
NINJA APPROVED
It's fine that it's going to PC but I wouldn't want to see it on other consoles. Exclusives are what gives a console it's personality and what separates it from other consoles, giving you a reason to buy one versus the other.
@wiiware I have a suspicion that Sony might be a bit worried about Gamepass. MS are playing the long game and GP is a very attractive prospect. The fact that PS+ has been so great recently also points to this. If this month's games are just as great to me that says Sony are trying to hold our attention whilst scrambling to sort out a more substantial sub offering in the near future as a GP competitor.
I don't think we need to worry about new PS games releasing on PC at the same time. Not this gen, anyway.
@PossibLeigh Gamepass is different from porting ps exclusive to pc though, that's purely for more money. I think psnow is like gamepass competition, if sony rebrand it with new name (like psplus platinum or ps pass) and make it available wordwide.
@TheFrenchiestFry I don't think its the Sony published games that most people have an issue with ,more the first party studio games like horizon and days gone, the ones made by other studios don't really count.
@wiiware The only major difference between PS now and GP is that new games are on GP straight away. That's quite a major difference. I think your correct and a full rebranding is coming.
@Col_McCafferty shame really it's just an opinion and everyone is entitled to one. I can see both sides of the argument. I love the Sony exclusives but I don't love them because they are exclusive. Seems like the middle ground would be timed exclusivity.
42% hate it? What a bunch of sad fan boys. It literally has no effect on anything.
Let the game hacking begin
As long as the game is designed for the PlayStation hardware and then ported later then I'm totally fine with it. But if they start making games with pc hardware in mind like many third party studios do the quality will drop and I'm not okay with that. PlayStation studios make fantastic video games and are really top notch quality and to lose that for a bit of extra profit would be a bad move for gaming.
@PossibLeigh While I don't think ps will gave us their new $70 games if they make gamepass competitor, but new indie games and new smaller games like destruction all stars seems about right. Not too expensive (for sony) like microsoft that give all their 1st party games, but just enough so ps players didn't start to look at xbox side.
@Col_McCafferty
Ah I just came back in this thread to read a few comments and I'm sorry you had to endure the insults. Some people dont understand how debates and adult discussion work and get emotional. I often see the ones insulting and calling others 'fanboy' or other childish names or even 'bigots' are projecting their fanatic attitude of intolerance.
I know we have different opinion about a certain game but I understand and even appreciate that.
For that matter the NO is obviously the majority in the poll
@JJ2 Yeah, any dissent on this issue is deemed by some to be childish behaviour and equivalent of throwing one's dummy out of one's pram but I don't think that's fair.
What game was that again?
😉
Yeah, early on it was the opposite but now this poll any at the indicates that Ryan is wrong with his assertion that PS owners don't care about Sony games going to other platforms. Not the first time he has been wrong either. Already looking like a bad appointment.
😒
@Northern_munkey.... And I will be one of those..... I only buy games legally only on my Playstation. All my pc games are either pirated or bought at below barrel prices from hackers..... So actually this will lead to more piracy.
For example Rockstar makes more money from GTA online on console than on PC.
Pc gaming is all but paying money to Intel, Amd or Nvidia, once that is sorted the Devs are practical screwed as its so easy to get a pirated Horizon Zero Dawn right now on PC. So which means Guerilla did a lot of porting work for at best nothing.......
I have had my Ps4 since 2018 and have spent over $1000 on games, I do also have a PC and I terms of gaming I could get over 30 games by just spending at most $60.
On pc Once your graphics card can load the game the devs can go over the clip really cause the mods makes the games ever better than the original games. So Sony should tread really carefully.
Is the PC money really big enough to warrant Sony chasing it at the expense of the PS Plus money, I mean with the exclusives gone why even subscribe to Ps Plus when you can play online games for free on Pc and wait for the PS exclusives to eventually launch at dirt cheap prices were you can still pirate them and get them for free.
I mean this is a middle finger to people who supported Days Gone, I mean if they kept it Exclusive on the Sony platforms then get Bend to update it for Ps5 with new content then people who did not buy it in 2018 may take a dip in it, but now it's actually better to prorated it for free on PC.
@Col_McCafferty
That may sound strange to you but I actually like JRyan because he is straightforward and wants competitivity but I can disagree with him on a few things. I was even more sceptical about Shawn Layden in the last couple years who seemed getting complacent and was advocating shorter single player games as a standard and was the first to talk about developing for PC again.
Even Hermen Hulst certainly is pushing for PC given he is a developer first and formost and will push their interests.
I d like to point out JRyan did say there was no serious push against HZD port and it seems to me that leaves the door open for acknowledging feedback from the community if there is a strong disapproval.
@GREGORIAN like the honesty. I don't have a pc but can imagine the temptation to rip games. I had my PS 2 chipped and was playing copied games waaaay back in the day
I have become indifferent to ports, let PC players have the games.
Personally for me I hate the idea, I think it's against everything a brand is about. You choose a brand for what it offers and if that exclusive perk or ideal is available somewhere else to me I wouldn't be invited to buy it . I won't be sticking with the brand because of it and anyone who says they don't buy somthing because of what that brand offers them weither it be price, look, feel or an exclusive component is plain lying. We choose bread because we like that experience, we choose a make of clothing because of the brand, texture or trend and we would choose a car for the look, that look nobody else can provide. For me personally I'm done with the sony brand.
@Carl-G hopefully
