Re: Rumour: PS Portal OLED Version Coming This Year

DTfearTheBEARD

@Runex2121 I respect that. 30fps is fine. If I start off playing a game in quality mode, it doesn't bother me. But if I switch over to performance and see the higher frame rate, then I can't go back to quality mode. Unless it's at least 40fps, which is a nice middle ground (45fps on Steam Deck OLED).

I'm curious what kind of TV you play on. If you don't notice the difference with the higher frame rates on PS5 Pro and Series X.

I've gone back to some lower frame rate games on my OLED TV's, and it can be kind of rough to look at, until my eyes adjust to it over some time. Which wasn't the case last generation. But then again, I was using led an TV at the time. So maybe that made a difference. I find 30fps more doable on a smaller display (PS Portal, Steam Deck, Switch 2)

Re: Rumour: PS Portal OLED Version Coming This Year

DTfearTheBEARD

@GeeEssEf Well, to be fair, if you're comparing it to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which also runs at 60fps on Switch 1, then no wonder why she can't tell the difference.

But yeah, I get what you're saying. I always try to show a friend of mine. How smooth a game is. I'm playing at the time on PS5 Pro or Steam Deck OLED. I'd say, look, it's running at 60fps, 90fps, or even 120fps.

They say yeah, it's smooth. But I can tell they don't even notice a difference, even if it's 30fps. I wish I could go back to being that way. Which was just last generation. I keep telling myself do not become a frame rate snob, that's not the person you are 😅😂.

Re: Rumour: PS Portal OLED Version Coming This Year

DTfearTheBEARD

I sold my Portal last year. Because the screen quality while nice, and tiny thumbsticks didn't do it for me.

Steam Deck OLED has been my remote play device for PS5 Pro. OLED with HDR, 4 back buttons, full sized thumbsticks, option to use gyro with any game, wired connection via ethernet makes it feel like I'm playing my PS5 games natively on the device.

I would be interested in an OLED Portal, though. For certain games (mostly rpg's, visual novels, ect), I like how lightweight the device is, and the grips are very comfortable for extended gameplay sessions. I'd be willing to pay $250 for one.

Re: Sony's Sending Messages to PS4 Players Encouraging Them to Upgrade to PS5

DTfearTheBEARD

@MrPeanutbutterz That's funny you bring up Mad Max. I remember thoroughly enjoying it on my original Xbox One (VCR) back in 2016 or so.

I actually replayed through Mad Max a month or so ago on my Steam Deck OLED, at 90fps with high settings. Still a great game!

I must have been mistaken, because I thought Mad Max could run at up 120fps on Series X with fps boost.

Re: Sony's Sending Messages to PS4 Players Encouraging Them to Upgrade to PS5

DTfearTheBEARD

@MrPeanutbutterz The only two games I could think of this generation I've played that didn't have 60fps modes is Gotham Nights (for whatever reason) and Starfield. But Starfield did get a 60fps update about a year after launch (Series X).

The PS4 library is amazing, but I agree it is kind of difficult to go back to most of those games capped at 30fps. Playing those lower frame rate games on a Steam Deck OLED/PS Portal via remote play makes them more bearable. But mabey that's just me.

I'm no frame rate snob whatsoever, (Switch is my favorite console) but we've been spoiled this gen with great performance from PS5/Pro and Series X.

Re: Sony's Sending Messages to PS4 Players Encouraging Them to Upgrade to PS5

DTfearTheBEARD

@Krlozgod If your friend is on base Xbox One and wants to upgrade, then they might as well. Because you are correct. We have no idea how long it will be until next gen.
Or how much of a price increase it will be compared to today's prices.

The base PS5/Series X is a noticeable upgrade over the original Xbox One. Even more so, if you have a modern television (4k, 120hz, hdmi 2.1) to take advantage of it.

I have PS5 Pro & Series X. Personally, I would stick with PlayStation, especially since Microsoft, is bringing their games over to PS5 anyway. That's just my opinion. But of course, I don't know how invested your friend is in the Microsoft ecosystem.

Re: Sony's Sending Messages to PS4 Players Encouraging Them to Upgrade to PS5

DTfearTheBEARD

@LifeGirl You may have to give me some examples. Most games I have played on base PS5, (I've had since launch) have a 60fps mode. To me, this has been a great gen of games mostly hitting and maintaining they're targeted frame rate. Of course, there are some games with frame rate issues (Silent Hill 2 & f come to mind) But those are far and few between, in my experience.

Besides, loading times, performance has been the biggest upgrade to me. This generation over the past two.

Re: Sony's Sending Messages to PS4 Players Encouraging Them to Upgrade to PS5

DTfearTheBEARD

If you haven't upgraded to a PS5 by now, after 5+ years, then you might as well wait and upgrade to a PS6 in a few more years.

I set up my PS4 Pro last year to use for remote play and forgot how terribly long the loading times are. That didn't last long. Now it sits on the shelf unplugged.

Once you're used to the SSD speed and 60fps as the standard, it's difficult to go back to last gen. But if you don't know any better, more power to you.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem Sounds Like a Proper PS5 Pro Showpiece

DTfearTheBEARD

Just what I wanted to hear! I hope Capcom gives us an option to uncap the frame rate with ray tracing turned on.

My first playthrough will be 4K 60fps with RT. To see this game in it's full graphical glory. Every playthrough after while going for the Platinum will be in 120hz mode.

I'm excited to know the PS5 version also has gyro aiming! Hopefully, Capcom gives us a way to adjust the gyro sensitivity this time, because the sensitivity is way too low on RE4R and Village. I don't want to have to use my Steam Deck OLED (but I will) for gyro. Because I'll miss out on all the DualSense features.

Re: Queen's Blood will Return 'Enhanced' in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3

DTfearTheBEARD

I'm currently playing through Rebirth right now on PS5 Pro.

Usually, I'm not a fan of card/minigames built inside other games but, Queen's blood is fun. Every time I visit a new location. I always check to see if there are npc's to play against.

I'm glad to hear it will be available for part 3.

However, that war/battleship style board game with the polygon style PS1 graphics. I did not understand at all.

Re: PS Plus Loses These 8 Games in February 2026

DTfearTheBEARD

@GirlVersusGame I'm really enjoying it so far. I added it to my Steam wishlist and I'll probably pick-up a physical copy for PS5. I've played about 4 hours of it. I keep wandering off the mission path to explore. Doing that helps me grind. I appreciate the advice about the augments. The soundtrack is good. I've only played Witcher 3, but I'm a big fan of Dying Light. If you want to play some co-op, I'd be down.

Re: Two Classic PS1 Beat-'Em-Ups Will Throw a Punch at PS5, PS4 This Week

DTfearTheBEARD

I used to love playing Fighting Force 64 on Nintendo 64 back in the day with a cousin of mine. It's nothing special compared to some of the best beat em ups from the SNES era, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. I never played Fighting Force 2.

I'll get this for the nostalgia. Probably, for Steam Deck OLED, since I missed out on the physical release through Limited Run.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem Reveals More Horror, Action Gameplay in Low-Key Showcase

DTfearTheBEARD

Excited for my Platinum run! Hopefully, there is a high frame rate mode for the Pro to go alongside with the enhancements.

I've been dabbling with a little RE4 Remake on my Pro recently and it looks phenomenal with the high frame rate and ray tracing. A showcase of what the PS5 Pro can truly do when used properly.

I have no doubt Capcom will do the same with RE9 & Pragmata.

Re: No Plans for PS5 Version of Acclaimed Tactics RPG Published by Sony Subsidiary

DTfearTheBEARD

@Jammer I own both games (Deadly Premonition 1 & 2) for Switch and a Switch 2. Both of them work and run a bit better on Switch 2. Still janky AF, though. But playable if fps drops don't bother you too much.

If you prefer to play those games in portable mode. Personally, I'd choose to play them on a Switch OLED. But you might as well buy a Switch 2 to future proof yourself.

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for January 2026 Announced

DTfearTheBEARD

@Deljo Depends on the game and price. I want this game for my collection and I prefer physical over digital. Since I'll have a digital copy via PS Plus, there will be no need to open the physical copy.

Besides, I don't own the monthly games given away via PS Plus. Once I stop paying for the service. Then, I no longer have access to those games. I like owning my games.

Hopefully, that answers your question.
