No Plans for PS5 Version of Acclaimed Tactics RPG Published by Sony Subsidiary 1

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy – a dark horse contender for 2025’s Game of the Year, at least on PC and Switch – still seems unlikely to release on the PS5.

Prior to its release, creator Kazutaka Kodaka had talked about how his Too Kyo Games team couldn’t afford to port the tactics RPG to multiple platforms, as his studio was on the brink of bankruptcy.

It seems, fortunately, the firm has weathered that storm by delivering a critical and commercial hit – but speaking with RPG Site, he said he’s “not considering” a PlayStation port of the game right now.

This news will be particularly painful for PS5 owners, as the game was published by ANIPLEX – a subsidiary of Sony, which operates independently of PlayStation under the Sony Music Entertainment umbrella.

Elsewhere in the interview, Kodaka explained just how much input the Sony division had on the project, alongside partner XSEED:

“We entrusted ANIPLEX with all promotion and publishing, and each put up half the funding, forming a strong partnership. They also handled communication with overseas publishers. We chose them because they understood our style and tried to spread it widely.”

According to Kodaka, ANIPLEX’s involvement means an anime adaptation could potentially occur in the future, as he’s eager to explore “more multimedia expansions” of the property.

We’re still confident a PS5 port of this will emerge one day, as it still feels like there’s an addressable market on Sony’s console that would buy this.

But it’s concerning to learn after the game’s initial success that a port’s still not on the cards – especially when you consider a Sony subsidiary helped bring it to market and contributed to its overall success.
