Remedy Entertainment isn't known for making safe bets with its games, so its latest comments on the upcoming Control Resonant shouldn't come as a big surprise.
The game, a sequel to 2019's Control, was announced at the 2025 Game Awards, and will follow Jesse Faden's brother Dylan as he leaves the confines of the Oldest House amid an outbreak of supernatural forces.
It sounds as though Remedy isn't resting on its laurels with this one; in a recent social post, the team makes some exciting comments about what it's aiming for with Resonant.

"With CONTROL Resonant, we wanted to challenge ourselves to make the biggest and most ambitious game we’ve ever made," it reads. "This is not a safe sequel. We want to push the boundaries of what we can do, and we believe after 7 years it’s what you, the fans, deserve."
What we know about the game so far is that you're playing as Jesse's brother, who was in containment at the Oldest House in the original.
The game also takes place outside the Bureau's walls, allowing you to explore the wider city, and will focus on melee combat rather than ranged action in the first game.
As mentioned, Remedy rarely plays it safe with its games, so we weren't exactly expecting that from Resonant. If anything, it sounds like the opposite is true; the studio is aiming high, and coming off the back of the brilliant Alan Wake 2, we're excited to see what it has in store.

The trailer was completely bonkers and I'm all for it, let Remedy cook! Speaking of which I wonder when we starting anything on the Max Panye remake?
I’m hoping they push environmental interaction and destruction to the next level.
Let's go! I'm hoping it has some tie-in to the Alan Wake series, I love how these games overlap.
Remedy is an enigma for me. I don't enjoy their games at all, but they are lauded by gaming fans and reviewers.
But they never sell really all that well
@CallMeDuraSouka Control probably sold more than 99% of games out there. It's just that we either hear about massive success stories or studios shutting down due to low sales.
Day one for me.
This is exactly what I want. Remedy may not play it safe, but that’s exactly what makes it the safest purchase I could personally make. Very easy GotY contender for this year and I’m confident in saying that before even touching the game.
Control was alright. The look of it was probably the most interesting thing about it.
Really, really looking forward to this. It's right up there in my most anticipated titles for 2026.
For the life of me, I cannot remember what happened to Jesse Faden. I never played the DLC, this something unfortunate befall her...?
I'm okay it's not a safe sequel. But i hope it still have some elements & mechanics from the 1st game.
@CallMeDuraSouka "i don't enjoy their games at all"
You don't even enjoy Max Payne 1 & 2 which is some of the best TPS in history and one of the first games that feature bullet time mechanic?
I just hope the game runs well on PS5. Not a big fan of Northlight Engine, even though the technology and tech behind said engine is impressive, but i imagine rendering more complex, "open areas" + frenetic combat will be tough on any hardware out there, including PC
Loved Control. Really hope there is a physical disc version cause I am old school.
Sam Lake isn't involved in this one, unfortunately, so I''ll be holding off on buying until I see reviews.
In Remedy i trust.
Let's hope they learned their lesson with Alan Wake 2 and have a physical release ready on day 1!
I'm currently playing through Alan Wake 2 and honestly I think it's retroactively become ny gane of the year for 2023. Such a fantastic game, I'm loving every minute of it. The story is amazing and is the perfect blend of Twin peaks and Steven King's best work. Although the game gets very weird, so I'm all for it
Heck yeah Remedy. Day 1 for me. Can’t wait. Im adored Control and Alan Wake 2. Play Alan wake 1 on steam deck, gosh, while it’s ok,it’s tedious lol.
Th ranged telekinetics from Control were really fun so I am a little worried, but I loved Control and it's world so much, I am willing to keep my hopes up.
I enjoyed Control a lot more second time around on PS5 Pro it finally felt like I was playing the game they intended at 60fps with RT on. On PS4 it was one of the few games that ran worse on PS4 compared to XBO and was constantly under 30fps, and a bit of mess.
Liked alan wake, loved Control, couldn't get i to alan wake 2 at all.....sooooo I'm looking forward to this. Melee combat in the world and style of control? Heck yeah! But most importantly, I cant wait to see dylans powers aswell has his views on things.
I'm about half way through Control and like it a lot. Real fun to just pick up and play for a little bit. I liked Alan Wake a lot, though Alan Wake II isn't grabbing me (the mind mapping thing is weird, does it get deemphasized later on?) - this looks really cool. Definitely looking forward to it.
I’m glad that some of the game will be outside of the bureau. That was the one big drawback for me in Control - the environments got boring after a while.
The setting and atmosphere are what carried the first game for me. The DLC which abandoned it for a bunch of caves really suffered as a result.
Still, being prepared to change things with a creative purpose should always be encouraged, so I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Male character and melee makes me less interested
Loved Control. Combat engine, art style, universe, characters and story
I really liked AW2 even though survival horror (is that the right genre?) isn’t really my thing
Really looking forward to Resonant but if they go the Souls-like direction I’m out
i need to finish up alan wake 2 and control but i thought they were great games , so im pretty excited for the sequel.
Control is still one of my favorite PS5 experiences. The performance on PS4 was apparently not good, but it ran smoothly on PS5 and had nice ray tracing as well. But it was the mind-bending narrative and the kinetic gameplay that were the real stars. I consider the Ashtray Maze to be one of the best gaming levels of all time, if not the best.
I feel weird about this game because I simultaneously love that they're taking a risk and doing something unexpected, and I imagine this game will be sufficiently bonkers, but I can't help feeling disappointed that we're not Jesse anymore and it's not a melee game.
Didn't like Control the first time I finished it but liked it more when I finished it again a month ago. I still think "Astral Maze" is whatever, Jessi is the blandest protagonist they ever had(even more than Saga maybe) and soundtrack was dissapointing. This sequel announcement came at the right time and I am excited about what they will do with melee focus.
Hope it's not as dissapointing as AW2 which was a borefest.
It’s a weird one, I would be lying if I said my initial response wasn’t a turn off. Sequels are going to change things up, but I tend to expect, for example Dead Space 2, not something else entirely.
That said, this looks great in its own way. I’ll just be a bit less excited going in, knowing my initial expectations are not likely to be met.
Jesse Faden was a snore and the game's map was iffy in Control, but Resonant will probably get 8s, 9s and 10s from easy to please critics.
@DualWielding when I heard they had a male main character I decided this would be a day one purchase for me!
