Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 339

@LobsterJohnson No reason to be ashamed. There is an excitement in discovery and it is such a rich cultural history. I hope you enjoy the movies. I should pick up The Book of Five Rings as the Musahi trilogy is phenomenal. The acting in the movies can be melodramatic, but the cinematic craft is a sight to behold. Kurosawa especially creates rich landscapes with constantly shifting weather effects and fluid camera movement. His partnership with actors like Toshiro Mifune and Tatsuya Nakadai (who pop up in the samurai movies of other directors too) make for gripping drama as well.

@LobsterJohnson Have you seen Seven Samurai before? It’s one of my favorite films of all time. I got to see it in the theater and it was glorious. I hope the game gets more people to check out his films and other in the samurai genre. There are so many greats ones: Ran, Yojimbo, Rashomon, Sword of Doom, Throne of Blood, Samurai I: Musashi Miamoto (plus parts 2 and 3), Harakiri, Kagemusha, etc

Re: Gotham Knights Sounds Like One of the Most Exciting PS5 Projects Yet

@LiamCroft You kind of left out the most important part of that interview for a lot of people who had concerns after it was announced:

Is this a game-as-service?
Fleur Marty: "This is very much not designed as a game-as-service. There is an ability tree, which is different for each of the characters, and then there's gear that you craft - and so choices that you're going to be making - but that does not mean that this is a game-as-service.

Re: Gotham Knights Is DC Comics' Response to Marvel's Avengers, Launching 2021 on PS5 and PS4

Certainly not what I hoped. I’m fine not playing as Batman for the whole game. I like the idea of playing as the Bat family members. What I don’t like is the co-op live service that will be filled with micro transactions. The rpg damage counters look stupid and the fight music was horrible. I wanted an exclusively single player game. I know you can play this solo, but my bet is that the company’s main focus is on multiplayer.

Re: Fall Guys Season 2 Reveal Teased for Gamescom Opening Night Live

I don’t play many online multiplayer games like Fortnite, but I’ve really gotten into Fall Guys so I have a few questions. Does your level generally reset when a new season starts? If so, are there new perks to earn? Obviously nothing is confirmed with Fall Guys season 2, I am just wondering about these types of games in general.

Re: Sony's First-Parties Have Perfected the Art of Compelling Trophy Lists

I am all for how they are approaching platinum trophies now. Not everyone has an internet connection that can support online play and difficulty trophies do not take into account players with physical disabilities. If the playing field is not equal for all players then the achievement is not really representative of each gamer's passion and drive to accomplish the top prize. It's not about people not wanting to test themselves, but rather an artificial barrier set up that excludes members of the community. Plus, as others have said, the difficulty trophy actually works against me wanting to replay a game. I continued to play Spider-Man for hours after completing the story because the platinum was attainable and the activities were fun.

Re: The Outer Worlds Text Size Patch Isn't Enough to Stop Players Squinting

Bluetrain7

@JoeBlogs This was a problem in God of War among many other games. The issue for that game was blamed on employees sitting very close to monitors during play testing so the issue was never flagged. It should always be tested from an average home viewing distance away so it doesn’t happen. Always including a slider to increase text size in subtitles and in menus is a no brainer too.

Re: Random: Take an Axe to Your Halloween Pumpkins with These God of War PS4 Stencils

I wish they had put these out sooner because I would have used the Kratos stencil.
Pro-tip that I learned last year from a friend:
Tape the stencil to the pumpkin and use a pointed instrument (pen tip, small screwdriver) to poke a series of small holes along the lines where you intend to cut. I always used to free hand with a marker, but the tiny holes allow you to stay in the lines better. You too can, "Be better!"

Re: MediEvil - A Successful Resurrection of a Flawed But Fun Adventure

Remaking a PSOne era title should include more than a visual upgrade in my opinion. Game tech and craft have changed so much in 20 years. The fact that the camera and controls were not modified makes zero sense to me. It will likely appeal to a core audience of nostalgia seekers and very few other gamers.

"Stingy checkpoints mean dying will send you back to the very start of a level."
This may be period accurate, but it makes the game a non-starter for me. I had the time as a kid in the PSOne era to replay levels endlessly, but it was frustrating even back then. I think many modern gamers will be turned off by this alone.

I'm very happy for fans of the original game, but I wish it had at least offered optional customizable controls/camera/checkpoints for those of us who want a more modern take on what seems like a wonderful world and character.
