Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 289

Fall is in the air, so I've busted out the Halloween season games. First up is Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut. I love Friday the 13th series and the slasher genre, so I can't believe that I have never played this game before. It is gory and hilarious at the same time. A really fun and satisfying puzzle game similar to Hitman GO.

Re: Telltale Games Is Coming Back Under New Management

I’m really confused by this headline and that one on Polygon. It doesn’t sound like there will be a new version of a company named Telltale Games, but rather that their projects are being revived under a new company banner. Is that correct?

Thus: “Telltale Games Projects Being Revived by New Company”

Re: Sigh! Uncharted Movie Loses Its Director Again

They need to let it die. Unless PlayStation Productions has a grand new plan, this cycle will continue indefinitely. There is obviously some mismanagement or creative disagreements which cause a string of five directors to last a year or so in the pre-production phase before very publicly disowning the movie in some cases. The wheels are spinning. But what do I know? Uncharted: The Movie coming July 2035

This game still seems right up my alley. The review text seemed to be leading to a much lower score than a respectable 7. Still really appreciate the review though as it touched on some gameplay issues that I can now anticipate rather than being surprised by them. I love classic film and atmospheric horror so I do not mind if it is not as scary as Silent Hill. I think there is a broad spectrum of what people gravitate toward in the horror genre in both games and movies. Some want to be disturbed, some to be frightened to the point of sweaty palms, some to be constantly jumping from their seats, and others to bask in a spooky/chilling world. I fall in the latter.

With indications that Microsoft is going to drop details of their next system at E3, I wonder if Sony is hanging back a bit to counter more effectively. Going first is great, but undercutting the competition and learning from their mistakes may be more valuable. Regardless, a more powerful machine doesn’t necessarily trump a great games lineup as the current gen shows.

@Flaming_Kaiser Exactly! I don't know why more people can't see it this way. If you're willing to pay $10-11 for a two-hour movie in a theater, which you can only see once there, then why wouldn't you pay $20-25 for a 5+ hour game that you can replay endlessly?

Wow, after reading the comments, I am realizing that I do not put in as much time as I thought on gaming compared to other gamers here (516 hours for me). But these were my top three games and I was surprised by how much I put in the top two because I enjoyed my hours with them so much that I did not realize the time passing:
Red Dead Redemption 2 – 97 hours
God of War – 91 hours
Spider- Man – 58 hours

Re: Shadow of the Tomb Raider Owners Aren't Happy with How Fast the Price's Dropped

A good rule of thumb:
Does it come out between August and November? Do you want to save money? If yes to both then wait and buy it for 25-50% off at Black Friday/Cyber Monday. It’s that simple. For example, I got Mafia III and the Bioshock Collection for half price less than two months after each released. Don’t complain if you choose not to be a smart consumer of games.

Spider-Man all weekend. I’ve been playing it since it released on Thursday at midnight. Put about 10 hours in so far, mostly in exploring, street crimes, and side missions. Leveling up fairly quickly at 11 already (50 looks like the cap). I'm loving it. Insomniac does brilliant game design. Just like Ratchet and Clank, you feel underpowered at first but they introduce new skills and gadgets that make you into a real hero. It does feel heavily influenced by the Arkham games, but it has a distinct personality and humor. The world building is deep and intriguing. The combat and swinging mechanics are perfectly honed. Neither is super complicated but mastery of them is a satisfying journey. The easter eggs sprinkled throughout the game show the care and love that they have for Spider-Man’s history and the whole Marvel comic universe.
