I did genuinely laugh at thr idea of needing to replace a battery. Like the controller wont have completely fallen apart long before that ever becomes an issue. I look after my controllers, I think my launch ps3 controller worked right up until i retired the ps3, only needed a couple of ps4 controllers throughout that entire lifespan yet the ps5 controller can't survive a year without substantial stick drift essentially making it useless.
Alan wake 2 is a great offering. Not typically into that genre but played Alan wake 1 through plus and loved it so looking forward to playing the sequel.
Never played the original goat simulator but to be fair it looks like a decent game, something lighthearted to just switch off and play inbetween bigger games that maybe take more effort to play.
Then finally cocoon looks like a decent little puzzler too. Looks fairly short which makes for perfect palate cleansers after a longer game.
I reckon this will be the first month in a long time where i'll play every game offered on essential so I'm more than happy with this month.
I cannot fathom how the people pitching this have the jobs they do. The optics are genuinely atrocious, it's like they are intentionally trying to tank the brand. Despite the fact i have zero marketing experience, if i'm in a room where this is being pitched, I'm immediately questioning how this comes across. There's numerous ways of offering the exact same product but pitching it differently so that it actually feels enticing rather than a piss take.
@RagnarLothbrok 2-3 years I'd say. Going to depend on how quickly sales stagnate. The longer it sells well, the longer the wait. Spiderman 2 is almost 2 years old now and we are yet to see that on subscription services so expect that timeframe as a minimum.
My query with this is what happens when you get accustomed to the intentionally bad controls? Once you get to grips with walking, is it just then the same thing until you're done. How does it maintain the challenge for 20 hours if the challenge is just grasping the controls?
Surgeon simulator had a similar premise of impossibly hard controls but once you slowly started to get used to it, they upped the ante with gimmicks to make it even harder and after that, the challenge was maintained with the challenges within each level and things like medals and time trials to get. What is baby steps version of that to keep it interesting?
Love housemarque and i have no doubt Saros will be great which is why i dont need to see it.
The most anticipated thing for me is the potential to hear about the new ps+ games, they tend to announce the upcoming additions during these now and they also tend to make them much better than usual for these announcements.
As long as it is fair, I'm all for the return of tough games. Too many games now hold your hand for the fear of people dropping titles they find difficult and not finishing them or they make things difficult through egregious means where it just feels unfair and heavily weighted against you rather than an actual challenge.
Slimy response. They're dead to rights purely on the fact they seeked the Horizon license. Maybe they find a legal loophole to save themselves some money but we all know how creatively bankrupt they are. Maybe use some of the money used fighting lawsuits to have people come up with at least semi-original ideas.
I would anticpate this list to expand before the end of the month. Games tend to get listed for removal a month before the update, with the calender the way it is, we have a longer period between the next update so I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more games added to that list shortly.
Episodic releases should have died out a long time ago. Horrible model.
The concept for this is class but originally I thought it was going to primary be some kind of strategy/management game, hearing its more linear narrative game and those management parts are more just to push the narrative forward is extremely disappointing for me.
Did it? Not exactly similar games. Sure some people who may have been interested and in the market for a new release might have opted for silksong instead but thats a small number and if your game is good enough there is no reason those people couldn't rekindle interest later.
You cannot bemoan competition. Will always come across as incredibly bitter and just looks like you don't have as much confidence in your own game as you'd expect.
They got Hades for a year because it was a new, unknown IP. Hades 2 is the sequel to a game of the year, getting exclusivity on that will be dramatically more expensive than the original.
It's not even a case of whether they can afford it, it's whether it makes financial sense. And it simply doesn't. Switch 2 and Playstation 5 arent really direct rivals, the benefits of having it off other consoles for a limited time is rather minimal so why bother paying for pro-longed timed exclusivity?
I've slated this month's offering earlier on but one thing I do not understand is thr constant demand for multiple premium titles every month. If you buy a years sub at full price its £20 difference for the year or £1.66 a month. Even if you ignore all other benefits on premium and you get 1 game per month it's still easily worth it if you're interested in playing older titles, you only need to play 2/3 premium titles a year to have gotten the value from it. Those that are expecting a barrage of titles every month are just expecting far too much for what you pay.
Expected it to be a disaster after the development issues. It ended up being a throughly enjoyable game albeit clearly downsized in scale. I'd like to see them make another.
I really enjoy sly cooper but I think its probably had its time, can't see a new modern game playing that well. Also wouldnt want a dev like sucker punch on it, they've got ghosts and if not that I'd like a new infamous or new IP.
If a smaller, trusted dev team can pitch something, it wouldnt be a bad idea to let somebody else do something with it though.
Unless something is broken or unfair, there is no need to make things easier, the challenge is a part of the appeal. What they could and should do is avoid tedium in repeated failures.
Not having checkpoints directly outside of boss arenas is something that should have died off a long time ago. I'm all for challenging games, I'm more attracted to harder games but it has to be the correct type of challenge, that mechanic is just pure tedium.
@TrollOfWar you are completely mis-representing what was said there.
Lorne Lanning said it was a devastating deal for them because they grossly underestimated the number of projected ps5 owners that would download the game primarily due to a delay on release and Covid.
They forecasted the deal to be more financially lucrative taking the ps+ money then they'd make from selling the number of copies they expected to be downloaded. They underestimated the actual downloads by a factor of 40, mainly because of things outside of their influence but not entirely and so what would have been a nice little earner ended up being a lot of potential lost revenue. It was a very specific instance for that game, at that time.
This is actually worse than a straight up price hike and i hope it gets the backlash it deserves.
It's still a price increase as you're paying the same for less but they're trying to disguise it. You dont get to pretend to be consumer friendly by avoiding another price increase whilst giving less.
Spot on. Reddit is a cesspit where the not rights reside. Its useful for them to have their place to congregate so that they can stay away from the rest of us but never, ever listen to anything they're saying.
Looks like a reskinned Hitman for the most part. That is by no means a bad thing, hitman is incredible, I did think they'd try a bit more to be different though.
The bits that were less Hitman, were sadly not impressive. The whole gunfight scene with the plane had me grimacing. That did not look good at all and im not on about from a technical standpoint, just the fact that he seemed completely bulletproof. trained military men missing whole clips of shots point blank as he strolls over to them and disarms them, perhaps it was on easy mode (if there is a difficulty setting) and its an easy fix but an odd choice to demo that part like that.
Its very expensive but I compensate for that by simply not buying games. I have a grandfathered in ps+ premium sub from psnow era and that has provided me with more games than I can get through despite probably playing more than ever. There's very few games I've really wanted to play that have yet to come to the service.
The likes of true vault hunter mode, invincible bosses and pearlescent rarity are all staples of borderlands and should be included with the base game. even if they're planned as free content.
Don't make the game all about loot, let us play the entire thing and grind for loot then release the real top tier loot later rendering everything else insignificant.
First time im not buying a borderlands on release. I hope its good enough to entice me to rethink that.
@TrollOfWar I get that but i still think the majority of players will come from that basr with players returning for a quick nostalgia hit when its effectively free for them to do so. If we ever get updated figures after this then I think we can expect most of those extra players from now will be new ps5 players though.
Given thats a total including gamepass and upgrades that number seems low to me. Have to imagine the vast majority of that figure havent bought it outright.
@PuppetMaster I wasn't and didnt suggest it should have remained a solo part time dev making it, they could have provided a support staff and ramped up development with glossing it up and trying to turn it into a fully fledged title.
Early comments suggest this should have stayed as an smaller scaled indie title with a reflective price rather than polishing it up with fluff just to justify a full price release.
I see a shallow story as a good thing. As stated in the article, you dint play these games for the story so why bother wasting time and resources to do something that isnt going to matter much, get the bare bones in and move on to the important parts, i.e the combat.

This is one of those where the news around it is the bigger deal over the actual game. Don't think the appetite to play a 20 year old game is as big as many would think.

The annals of time will undoubtedly laugh at them but they deserve to feel it themselves too.

Same with Plucky squire, I held off originally on that because I heard the trophies were bugged, will check whether they have been fixed and might get around to that too.
Busier than usual month for me, I've usually done whatever I've been interested in.
Played what I want out of that. I think its fairly easy to predict what games will be up for removal well in advance. Most licenses tend to be for similar periods, 12 months and 24 months being common, 18 months not uncommon and also 6 months for some of the bigger named titles and a special 3/4 month period for Rockstar (is it time to re-add gta yet?)
Seeing as the 1 month notice is rarely enough time, i always have a look at the games added around those periods in advance and get any bigger games started beforehand so that I've got time to finish them should they be removed.
Started hogwarts legacy yesterday for this very reason. If it was only a 6 month addition that gives me enough time to get it finished
@Skyliner no question it will provide value for those buying day 1. Just saying for those that like to be more frugal, myself included, i'd label this as a sure bet for a future addition to a subscription service.
