Sony Nukes Thousands of Shovelware Games from PS5, PS4 1

Sony has seemingly taken action against one of the PS Store’s most prolific shovelware makers.

ThiGames – the purveyor of fine titles like The Jumping Burrito – was one of the PS5 and PS4’s most prolific publishers, with more than 1,000 games available.

Many of these were reskins of the same core idea, like The Jumping Pizza and The Jumping Taco. You get the idea.

But as of yesterday, all of its games have been axed from the PS Store in all regions.

We carefully clicked through dozens of its titles on its official website and couldn’t find any of them available to purchase. That remains the case today, too.

Neither Sony nor ThiGames has commented on this situation yet, but we have reached out to both parties to try and understand what’s going on. We’ll update the article if we get word back.

Many companies have built a business out of flooding the PS Store with low quality software. Often these games will offer extremely easy Platinum Trophies, which can be stacked across PS5 and PS4, as well as different regions. In some instances, a single game could net you six or more of Sony’s top trinkets.

But while the Trophies for ThiGames’ efforts remain on PlayStation’s servers, the games are no longer for sale.

Is this the first sign of the platform holder cracking down on poor quality content? Well, the PS Store is still absolutely flooded with shovelware, but with the removal of ThiGames’ titles, it’s at least looking a little cleaner today.
