Expected it to be a disaster after the development issues. It ended up being a throughly enjoyable game albeit clearly downsized in scale. I'd like to see them make another.
I really enjoy sly cooper but I think its probably had its time, can't see a new modern game playing that well. Also wouldnt want a dev like sucker punch on it, they've got ghosts and if not that I'd like a new infamous or new IP.
If a smaller, trusted dev team can pitch something, it wouldnt be a bad idea to let somebody else do something with it though.
Unless something is broken or unfair, there is no need to make things easier, the challenge is a part of the appeal. What they could and should do is avoid tedium in repeated failures.
Not having checkpoints directly outside of boss arenas is something that should have died off a long time ago. I'm all for challenging games, I'm more attracted to harder games but it has to be the correct type of challenge, that mechanic is just pure tedium.
@TrollOfWar you are completely mis-representing what was said there.
Lorne Lanning said it was a devastating deal for them because they grossly underestimated the number of projected ps5 owners that would download the game primarily due to a delay on release and Covid.
They forecasted the deal to be more financially lucrative taking the ps+ money then they'd make from selling the number of copies they expected to be downloaded. They underestimated the actual downloads by a factor of 40, mainly because of things outside of their influence but not entirely and so what would have been a nice little earner ended up being a lot of potential lost revenue. It was a very specific instance for that game, at that time.
This is actually worse than a straight up price hike and i hope it gets the backlash it deserves.
It's still a price increase as you're paying the same for less but they're trying to disguise it. You dont get to pretend to be consumer friendly by avoiding another price increase whilst giving less.
Spot on. Reddit is a cesspit where the not rights reside. Its useful for them to have their place to congregate so that they can stay away from the rest of us but never, ever listen to anything they're saying.
Looks like a reskinned Hitman for the most part. That is by no means a bad thing, hitman is incredible, I did think they'd try a bit more to be different though.
The bits that were less Hitman, were sadly not impressive. The whole gunfight scene with the plane had me grimacing. That did not look good at all and im not on about from a technical standpoint, just the fact that he seemed completely bulletproof. trained military men missing whole clips of shots point blank as he strolls over to them and disarms them, perhaps it was on easy mode (if there is a difficulty setting) and its an easy fix but an odd choice to demo that part like that.
Its very expensive but I compensate for that by simply not buying games. I have a grandfathered in ps+ premium sub from psnow era and that has provided me with more games than I can get through despite probably playing more than ever. There's very few games I've really wanted to play that have yet to come to the service.
The likes of true vault hunter mode, invincible bosses and pearlescent rarity are all staples of borderlands and should be included with the base game. even if they're planned as free content.
Don't make the game all about loot, let us play the entire thing and grind for loot then release the real top tier loot later rendering everything else insignificant.
First time im not buying a borderlands on release. I hope its good enough to entice me to rethink that.
@TrollOfWar I get that but i still think the majority of players will come from that basr with players returning for a quick nostalgia hit when its effectively free for them to do so. If we ever get updated figures after this then I think we can expect most of those extra players from now will be new ps5 players though.
Given thats a total including gamepass and upgrades that number seems low to me. Have to imagine the vast majority of that figure havent bought it outright.
@PuppetMaster I wasn't and didnt suggest it should have remained a solo part time dev making it, they could have provided a support staff and ramped up development with glossing it up and trying to turn it into a fully fledged title.
Early comments suggest this should have stayed as an smaller scaled indie title with a reflective price rather than polishing it up with fluff just to justify a full price release.

I feel like all 3 titles are ps+ extra games in truth, lemme tend to get bigger titles for essential. These are exactly the type of extra style games i look forward to though so no complaints from me at all, especially after a poor refresh last week. im interested in playing all 3 of these.
This is one of those where the news around it is the bigger deal over the actual game. Don't think the appetite to play a 20 year old game is as big as many would think.
I can see it's significance but I couldn't care less. Only way i'll ever bother to play it is if it's on ps+
Should have been more imo. Americans need to be taught just how stupid they were to allow such a maniac to gain power and a sharp rise in price of entertainment products is sadly a strong way of informing them.
The annals of time will undoubtedly laugh at them but they deserve to feel it themselves too.
If you list out the games, it wasnt bad at all, arguably impressive even. But if you watched it, it was awful. Just ridiculously long and poorly paced. Even the trailers themselves were dull, even for games im interested in.
Had F.I.S.T installed for a while now, time to get around to it. Might have to put hogwarts legacy on hold to do so.
Same with Plucky squire, I held off originally on that because I heard the trophies were bugged, will check whether they have been fixed and might get around to that too.
Busier than usual month for me, I've usually done whatever I've been interested in.
Played what I want out of that. I think its fairly easy to predict what games will be up for removal well in advance. Most licenses tend to be for similar periods, 12 months and 24 months being common, 18 months not uncommon and also 6 months for some of the bigger named titles and a special 3/4 month period for Rockstar (is it time to re-add gta yet?)
Seeing as the 1 month notice is rarely enough time, i always have a look at the games added around those periods in advance and get any bigger games started beforehand so that I've got time to finish them should they be removed.
Started hogwarts legacy yesterday for this very reason. If it was only a 6 month addition that gives me enough time to get it finished
@Skyliner no question it will provide value for those buying day 1. Just saying for those that like to be more frugal, myself included, i'd label this as a sure bet for a future addition to a subscription service.
This is 100% coming to ps+ at some point. Would have made a very good day 1 title as the potentially never ending DLC is where they'll make a killing so getting the base game into as many hands as possible will aide them.
Weirdly, making it a free-ro-play title probably would have been an excellent move for them from a business perspective for the same reasons.
The argument that it doesnt create value or it stifles creativity or quality is only really applicable to 1st party and even then, 1st party is essentially becoming third party with Microsoft pivot to releasing everything on Playstation too.
A 3rd party title might have that gamepass backing security but they'll be looking for substantial sales elsewhere too and they'll be wanting to create a reputation for the next game they make. if they simply churn out the lowest quality game as quickly as possible for gamepass, they'll not have a future beyond the gamepass game. Some games will end up feeling like that, but I doubt there's any company that intentionally goes down that route.
A very weak month in my eyes. Re-adding a game, in this case Spider-man and labeling it as one of the bigger titles will always feel like a kick in the teeth for long term subscribers that were subbed when it was first on.
Mortal kombat 1. Meh. Fine I suppose, just replaces the last mortal kombat that left earlier this year. Not in to fighting games but I recognise it's a decent title to bring in. Unicorn overlord did grab my attention, not typically the type of game I'd play but it intrigued me so that is likely the only title I'll bother to download. Thankfully, last month was a banger, gor through planet zoo and abiotic factor but still got risk of rain 2, tropico and banishers to get through so that will tidy me over.
Firebreak was entirely understandable. Remedy has a lot of goodwill in the gaming world, they assumed people would jump onboard because of that. They would then only really need it to be a solid, competent game for the revenue to come in via microtransactions. Getting in on ps+ and gamepass was a clever move, gets the player count up and offsets a lot of the cost. They made all the right choices, the gamble was worth it but it seemingly hasnt stuck so time to move on.
The people in charge have regularly said they see PS+ as a service predominately for older, back catalogue titles. If you're subscribing to it, you're doing so accepting this is the case and shouldn't be expecting anything different.
You say most people have played it already, thats simply not true, it sold a few million units on a 100m+ install base with about 50m ps+ subs, thats a small fraction of the player base, and that will apply to the vast majority of titles that come to the service.
If you dont think theres value, you dont have to subscribe, only somebody that buys the vast majority of titles they're interested in on or around release could fail to find value in the service and if thats the case, why are you subscribing to it in the first place?
Alternatively, you can easily increase the value of the service yourself by simply not buying everything on release. it's fairly easy to predict a lot of games that will come to ps+ the question is simply when. Lies of P released day 1 into gamepass meaning they're up for subscription deals and so you can put it down as a safe bet to come to ps+ once the gamepass exclusivity window is done. I love souls games but i didnt buy it because I knew it would come to ps+ eventually and here I am looking forward to playing it and once again praising the immense value in ps+.
If you own or have played lies of P already it's awful, probably the worst month of the year. if you haven't played lies of P, that alone makes it a strong month.
Don't think this will be a particularly big seller. If it doesnt come bundled with all the dlc, I could see this coming to ps+ with the idea of selling the dlc. Thats the only way you'd get me remotely interested on playing this.
At the turn of the year, this was touted as the next behemoth title, 6 months later, I forgot it even existed. Fair to say it's been quite the anti-climax, despite the immense sales.
Yep it's been good. At the very least I've enjoyed everything I've played so far with some being brilliant. Balatro, bombrush cyberfunk, diablo 4, dragon age veilguard, high on life and robocop I've played and platinumed them all too. Still a few more I intend on getting around to at some point. Noticeably less of the DoA multi-player games that will be free to play within 12 months and shutdown within 24 months which is great because we have been overloaded with them over recent years. Just need them to stick to that and perhaps stop giving us the annual titles like fifa, NBA and wrestling.
Called it! Said lies of P would be coming to some level of the service, just made too much sense after the release of the dlc and the gamepass exclusivity deal expiring. That hard carries this month and it's a good job really as the other 2 offers are piss poor of we are being generous.
Its got the attention it craved from being a blatant rip off so why wouldn't they just give the visuals an overhaul and avoid the lawsuit? By all accounts it doesnt play like horizon so it's purely the look, that can't be so hard to change that it's worth being sued over and likely losing.
@Balaam_ As a trophy hunter myself, one thats become more and more fixated on platinuming everything I play, I cannot understand your thought process here.
Surely you attribute greater appreciation to a tough platinum than one thats handed to you for little more than starting the game? It sounds like you're just after quantity and if that's the case, theres dozens of easy platinums that you can get from the shovel ware crap released every week.
This game looks great, the apparent tough platinum just adds to the hype level even more in my eyes.
Definitely a win for the consumers but it is hard to to think it's not just delaying the inevitable. There was push back against multiple deluxe editions of games and paid "early access" to begin with and now every big game has them.
Someone will do it, they'll get the majority and then the floodgates will open. Many seem to think it will be gta 6 to do it, im not convinced by that. they dont need to, they'll sell enough copies to be the most profitable game in history anyway so why take the risk.
There's an abundance of games, if you're not an established IP or dont have prior hit games behind you, it's going to be a hard sell. If your game is phenomenal, it will always do well, if it's just decent, you're going to need help to go big. Marketing has to be good, I saw pretty much no marketing for this game and i actively keep up to date, only reason i knew it existed is because i saw it on playstation access.
a good release window to not get crowded out can really help, a discounted price point or a subscription deal are big helps too. Its also wise to not expect massive numbers if youve not got any of those things helping you.
Game looked decent to be fair, but only decent, it's something that will come to subscription services fairly quickly and I'll play it then.
Not the type of game that usually appeals to me but this looks good and reception to it on pc has been very strong. Whether I play it or not though is entirely dependent on how neccesary the co-op part is.if the games perfectly playable in its entirety and the platinum is also achievable solo then im in.
Wild hearts was the only thing I had a mild interest in that I havent played. Never likely to get around to it though. Good thing about them adding a bunch of games at once from a series you have no interest in is when it comes to them leaving there's nothing you miss out on. Glad there's nothing to clean up so I can jump into the new games straight away
There's always so many apathetic comments towards cod that seem to increase every year, and I fully agree with them, I also couldn't care less about it, havent enjoyed a cod game since mw2, but they're still always best sellers. I dont know who it is thats playing them every year. probably the same people who are buying gta 5 after 15 years to consistently put it in the top sellers that month.
When a huge, blockbuster title comes to ps+ i always question who it's for with my reasoning being surely everybody who wanted to play (in this case, cyberpunk) has already played it by now. And then I see the poll results with nearly a third picking that as their top pick which leaves my view seemingly firmly in the minority.
I have at least some interest in playing all extra games except cyberpunk.
Great month, I'll probably be downloading planet zoo, banishers, tropico and risk of rain immediately on addition to the service, edging towards playing planet zoo first.
I can't see how that SoP would influence anybody either way. We just watched a 20 minute blog post about features a fraction of the player base will ever engage with.

Yes! Cannot wait for the annual wrestling game that will be redundant in months and have servers closed shortly after...
Good to see yhem sticking by their recent policy of offering us fewer and fewer titles too...
Awful month. A passing interest in crow country, unlikely to bother with anything else.

Classic, middling day 1 gamepass game by the sounds of it. Ps+ offering in 12 months once the gamepass deal expires.
Re: 'Increasingly Selective Consumers' to Blame for Underperformance of Blades of Fire
Re: This New PS Plus Extra Game Is Available to Download and Play Now
Not the type of game that usually appeals to me but this looks good and reception to it on pc has been very strong. Whether I play it or not though is entirely dependent on how neccesary the co-op part is.if the games perfectly playable in its entirety and the platinum is also achievable solo then im in.
Re: PS5 Action RPG KAKU: Ancient Seal Has Real Throwback Appeal
If you told me this was a kena sequel, I'd have no reason to doubt it.
Re: These 13 PS5, PS4 Games Leave PS Plus Extra in August
Wild hearts was the only thing I had a mild interest in that I havent played. Never likely to get around to it though. Good thing about them adding a bunch of games at once from a series you have no interest in is when it comes to them leaving there's nothing you miss out on. Glad there's nothing to clean up so I can jump into the new games straight away
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Is the First Game Set for Gamescom Showcase
There's always so many apathetic comments towards cod that seem to increase every year, and I fully agree with them, I also couldn't care less about it, havent enjoyed a cod game since mw2, but they're still always best sellers. I dont know who it is thats playing them every year. probably the same people who are buying gta 5 after 15 years to consistently put it in the top sellers that month.
Re: 'You Buy the Game and You Get the Whole Thing': Judas Dev Not About Live Service
I find it hard to believe after so long in development they dont have dlc lined up for it which would render this untrue.
Appreciate the sentiment about no online service aspect though.
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for July 2025?
When a huge, blockbuster title comes to ps+ i always question who it's for with my reasoning being surely everybody who wanted to play (in this case, cyberpunk) has already played it by now. And then I see the poll results with nearly a third picking that as their top pick which leaves my view seemingly firmly in the minority.
I have at least some interest in playing all extra games except cyberpunk.
Great month, I'll probably be downloading planet zoo, banishers, tropico and risk of rain immediately on addition to the service, edging towards playing planet zoo first.
Re: Poll: Are You Sold on Ghost of Yotei?
I can't see how that SoP would influence anybody either way. We just watched a 20 minute blog post about features a fraction of the player base will ever engage with.
