Yikes. Probably better to stagger the launch across the world over a week or two if you are not going to ensure you’re set up for the launch day crunch.
I guess they simply don’t care and better to get the game out and sold, it’s not like this is their first rodeo… they are banking on people forgetting once it’s settled down, which is probably true enough.
I feel like this is probably a bit of a nonsense story for a sleepy Sunday, but nonetheless Xbox are in a hole right now, one they have dug for themselves, which is a shame because we’d all benefit from Sony and Nintendo being under heavy pressure by them.
Oh right, I thought they were asking for an always online connection to play. But a download as part of the install? No bother for most people, really.
This is a touch, I have been wanting to play the OG as I didn’t get into it back in the day. I have it on my Steam Deck but without native controller support I have not really bothered with it. Looking forward to getting it on PS5, then!
Guys, you’ve been around years now. How you’ve yet to work out a 100% perfect scoring system that accurately balances every game against every other, accounting for all genres, budgets, systems and other factors, while weighing it solely against its own merits PLUS factoring for the passage of time AND individual preference with a margin for human error is beyond me. Sort your sh*t out, it’s a joke, and this is just too important.
I do want to get this, but I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to Silent Hill games in particular, and I have been playing SH2 remake since Christmas and still not finished it. The plan is to get that done within a year and then SH:F might be on sale. There are simply very few games I’d be prepared to pay £60+ for!
I tried to get into this quite hard on PS2, but just found it a bit of a mess. I guess Counter-Strike had spoilt me! Perhaps it was a lot more fun if they were all on the same bus shouting at each other, though!!
I’ve just seen the credits roll on Axiom Verge 2 - really enjoyed it, glad I went back and gave it another go after bouncing off it at launch.
It is quite different to the first one for sure, but that’s the point, and I can now see it doesn’t deserve some of the negative reviews it got as a result.
I’d probably have to replay the first one to see if I think it’s “better”, it has been about 10 years… it could well be though!
They must have tested it enough to know this was a problem, no? It’s mad that they would rather the PR nightmare and rush out a subsequent patch, versus sort it for launch or be up front about it before hand.
I guess in reality it’s a minority of buyers who actually notice and complain so they figure what the heck.
@somnambulance good shout on AV2! I got it on the Deck and I’ve played for a good 6 hours straight today. I stopped playing after 20 minutes last time, glad I gave it another go.. it has been bugging me a little, how I left it before.
@KundaliniRising333 Gracious we are, O wise one, to have you (constantly...over and over again...) remind us of our ill ways, and to guide us on to the righteous path.
Couple of hours in, what a nice game. I liked the last one but I don’t remember it making such a strong first impression. The environments seem a lot more inviting, the general ambience is excellent. The main character is cool. I like it! Disappointed I won’t get a chance to play more until Monday now.
It was lots of fun, although I think overall I enjoyed GZ more. My expectations for that were quite low, but I found so much re-playability in the small area, and I was super stoked for a huge world with the same mechanics and an awesome story. And while we got the world, perhaps it felt too big in the end, and the story... well, the less said about that the better. I still feel let down about that after the awesome trailer tbh.
I’ve been playing Tomb Raider 1 (remastered) all week, first time playing in close to 30 years - what a fantastic game. They really don’t make them like this anymore, the franchise (and games in general) could learn a thing or two from it.
I also started playing Resident Evil 3 since the OG versions became available on PS5.
Finally some Deus Ex Human Revolution on Steamdeck, which I can’t believe I played in 2011 (?). Also funny that it’s set in 2027. The game is a lot goofier than it felt back when I originally played it. I have Mankind Divided ready to go afterwards, and also picked up Alan Wake for 79p in a sale yesterday 🫣
What is the Push Square verdict, any of the staff tried it for themselves?
Personally, pre-patch I had a lot of hitching that occurred outside of towns, every 20-30 seconds. After the patch this has completely stopped, at least in the 5-6 hours I played and in the areas I played. There are still frame drops but I don’t find this too distracting myself.
I do tend to play it in relatively short stints though, and close it completely between sessions. Perhaps this helps.
I only tried it for 5 minutes but I had zero hitching while traveling outside of towns which is a marked improvement over before when it would do so every 20-30 seconds. Obviously need to try it longer but a positive immediate first impression. Glad to hear about the difficulty options too as it’s getting kinda silly!
@3Above yeah I mean, I am enjoying it quite a lot. It’s a chill game. Probably one I will dip in and out of, but I got it on sale too and already played 30 or so hours so I am happy enough with the purchase even if I never play it again…!
@DTfearTheBEARD there may lie my problem then. I got the below very cheap dock, although it reviewed alright, I am using a “generic” HDMI cable (I am afraid I do not know the spec, but it was not purchased with intent) and my TV is a great (for 2016!) Samsung KS7000.
I guess if I had confidence my TV would play nice with an official dock and a high end HDMI cable I could consider splashing out..
@DTfearTheBEARD cool thanks, I will look forward to picking it up! I have learnt not to be too phased by poor frame rates but 45fps always looks great on the smaller Steam Deck screen. It looks basically as smooth as 60fps to my eye.
I have not had great experiences playing games on the Deck through my TV. Annoying HDMI issues, no sound. That’s before even trying to mess with the settings to get an optimum picture. I think I am fated to always play in handheld mode
Sweet! It’s my first time playing Oblivion and I am really enjoying it. 20-30 hours in. The performance is pretty terrible sometimes but I don’t really care, I just chose not to let it bother me. Glad to hear it should be getting a boost though, but tbh I would be surprised if it makes a huge difference.
I have a few magic items, and when I equip them my character carries a weird effect. Such as being on fire. I am sure this is a bug? Would be nice if they could fix that, for sure…
I am almost certain this is in the pipeline with SE, there has been too much smoke over the years. And if it was outright not on the cards, they surely would have said something. I say it’s a case of when and not if.
That said, I am playing the Memoria mod on my Steam Deck and it’s really everything I’d want from a FF9 remaster/remake.

Re: Battlefield 6 Server Queues Are Absolutely Humongous on Launch Day
@12AngryCats yeah that’s not bad. It could be 5th and 6 hours or 500,000th and 6 minutes…

Re: Troubled Hyper Light Drifter Dev Cuts Losses with New Game, Confirms Layoffs
That’s a shame, but HLB wasn’t looking like a hit.. I am glad they are moving on from it. Sorry to hear about the staff cuts
I have had my eye on Possessor(s), it looks much more interesting than HLB.
For the record, HLD is one of my favourite games for sure. I was stoked for it through the Kickstarter and it delivered..!

@somnambulance cool, might grab it for the Deck and try it there. Either that or I’ll just download again on PS5!
Re: Review in Progress: Hollow Knight: Silksong (PS5) - A Silky Smooth Sequel Proving Well Worth the Wait
@somnambulance maybe I should give AV2 another shake. I enjoyed the first one a lot but was quite disappointed early on with the sequel.

@somnambulance a bit surprised Axiom Verge 2 made your list, when the first didn’t?
