What is the Push Square verdict, any of the staff tried it for themselves?
Personally, pre-patch I had a lot of hitching that occurred outside of towns, every 20-30 seconds. After the patch this has completely stopped, at least in the 5-6 hours I played and in the areas I played. There are still frame drops but I don’t find this too distracting myself.
I do tend to play it in relatively short stints though, and close it completely between sessions. Perhaps this helps.
I only tried it for 5 minutes but I had zero hitching while traveling outside of towns which is a marked improvement over before when it would do so every 20-30 seconds. Obviously need to try it longer but a positive immediate first impression. Glad to hear about the difficulty options too as it’s getting kinda silly!
@3Above yeah I mean, I am enjoying it quite a lot. It’s a chill game. Probably one I will dip in and out of, but I got it on sale too and already played 30 or so hours so I am happy enough with the purchase even if I never play it again…!
@DTfearTheBEARD there may lie my problem then. I got the below very cheap dock, although it reviewed alright, I am using a “generic” HDMI cable (I am afraid I do not know the spec, but it was not purchased with intent) and my TV is a great (for 2016!) Samsung KS7000.
I guess if I had confidence my TV would play nice with an official dock and a high end HDMI cable I could consider splashing out..
@DTfearTheBEARD cool thanks, I will look forward to picking it up! I have learnt not to be too phased by poor frame rates but 45fps always looks great on the smaller Steam Deck screen. It looks basically as smooth as 60fps to my eye.
I have not had great experiences playing games on the Deck through my TV. Annoying HDMI issues, no sound. That’s before even trying to mess with the settings to get an optimum picture. I think I am fated to always play in handheld mode
Sweet! It’s my first time playing Oblivion and I am really enjoying it. 20-30 hours in. The performance is pretty terrible sometimes but I don’t really care, I just chose not to let it bother me. Glad to hear it should be getting a boost though, but tbh I would be surprised if it makes a huge difference.
I have a few magic items, and when I equip them my character carries a weird effect. Such as being on fire. I am sure this is a bug? Would be nice if they could fix that, for sure…
I am almost certain this is in the pipeline with SE, there has been too much smoke over the years. And if it was outright not on the cards, they surely would have said something. I say it’s a case of when and not if.
That said, I am playing the Memoria mod on my Steam Deck and it’s really everything I’d want from a FF9 remaster/remake.
This generation has felt a little disappointing somehow but I must admit I still do use my PS5 pretty regularly. It is feeling a little creaky in some respects now, maybe I’d think about upgrading to a Pro next year if improvements like this are coming down the pipe.
@TheArt true, the always online is a bit annoying. Fortunately I had no problems like that with D4. Path of Exile on the other hand was laggy as hell for me, really annoying as I put a few hours into it then just had non stop problems. So yes it is a bummer.
Sekiro… lol. I got as far through that as I am ever going to get! Happy with the progress I made, I reckon 2/3rds? I am done 😂
I had a bit of fun with D4, but I didn't finish it. I got pretty confused with the campaign actually, I didn't know what I was doing or why the majority of the time. I can be pretty stupid about stuff like that though. Diablo 3 ftw!
@nessisonett The deck is really comfortable for its size and weight. I doubt this is terrible, and it'll be a lot better than the vertical (gameboy style) retro consoles!
@Wazeddie22 Ahh! I think it does not, after a little research. Somewhat a shame, as I do like to play these games strapped, if only so I don't feel like the odds are so heavily stacked against me!
@Wazeddie22 sounds like I still have some ways to go!! Sorry, did you mean SH:F has guns? (That’s what my query related to.. about to get the rifle myself in SH2!)
I’m still struggling through Silent Hill 2, I have been playing it since before Christmas. I am at the prison so near the end I think. I have played it for like..25 hours, it’s taking ages. But I have been looking at all the little details. I really like it but find it quite stressful, if not exactly terrifying, so I don’t play it often. I would like to get it wrapped up before this launches though.
Is it melee weapons only in this? Not super keen on that if so. Sort of wish it was a numbered entry too, I dunno. I know they stopped that a while ago. I wonder what the links to the actual town of Silent Hill will be.
@J2theEzzo eh, it’s £35.. if you enjoy it for a few weeks or a month it’s done its job. I do personally doubt it has huge legs beyond that, but you never know. Of course, people will still say it’s failed when the player base does drop off.
@Neither_scene ok, so it’s an average/a little above average game. It’s not going to win any game of the year awards but was it ever going to? Just funny how it was so quickly written off around here, is all.
@Ralizah As you said, (and as sarcastically drummed in through this article) it doesn't really come across like an apology per say, I think this is him owning his words, frankly. It might be clumsy but it's human.
@Ralizah The internet being what it is, we all know that the anger he'll have been on the end of would have gone well beyond the realms of what is reasonable!
@carlos82 Yeah I have heard a few saying similar, but I am still on the fence. And seeing how low the last 2 games go for these days I am obliged to wait for a sale I reckon. Hardly relevant, but I had the same problem with Wolfenstein too - absolutely loved TNO but hated TNC...
I really enjoyed 2016, but could not get going with Eternal at all, I was really disappointed with it. To the extent I am reluctant to give this one a go at full price.
I have been playing Dark Souls 3 on Steam Deck this week, it has its claws in me - struggling to put it down. Just put down the Abyss Watchers and dealing with annoying skeletons in the catacombs…
@LikelySatan it’s a really good time! I should clarify I am running the mods on my steam deck though. The installation process was super easy - just one line from the konsole in desktop mode.
I was playing Final Fantasy 9 on my RGX35, and thought I might finally give the Memoria and Moguri mods a go on my Steam Deck, and they are super impressive! The game just looks fantastic with the higher resolution backgrounds, many of which are adjusted to fit a wide screen. It also feels brilliant with proper analog controls running at 60+ FPS and fast, snappy menus. There are loads of other little tweaks you can do like font adjustments, mist density on the world map. I am even playing Tetra Master with the Triple Triad rules. It’s pure class, and by far the best way you can play FF9.
I’m also playing Exhibition 33 which I am enjoying a lot so far.
Yeah, and I am really enjoying it. Can’t say I absolutely loved the prologue for some reason (I can see some people raving about it above) but it was still a really good set up and it’s continued to get a lot better since, for sure.
I havnt been following any of the show and I dont really know the second game very well, but I did happen to watch this episode and thought it was pretty good, and I won’t lie I did think they would keep Joel alive.
That settlement should have had a series of dug out trenches full of razor wire and pre-set barrels of hidden explosives, though 😉
