Poll: Are You Playing Hollow Knight: Silksong?

Hollow Knight is one of my favorite games, and one of my favorite Metroidvanias, so I'm incredibly hyped.

It feels surreal that it's finally here.

Nah. Only ever played the first for an hour. Seemed good, but not as good as the Internet insists.

Still will play Silksong eventually. Just not until after I beat the first.

Already fought the tutorial boss~! I'm so pumped!

Still need to play Hollow Knight, so will get Silksong whenever i finished Hollow Knight. The release did make me install Hollow Knight again today though, so who knows i might actually start it soon.

Playing Mandragora. Excellent game so far.

I own HK on my PS4 since 2022 but never really finished the game, but i enjoyed quite a lot, so I'll definitely pick Silksong, i just don't know when. The only downside is that Silksong is insanely expensive on Playstation, way way way more than on Steam (Brazil). The game's price on Steam is very affordable, but since i prefer playing my games on console and since i don't own the first game on PC, I'll get this one on PS5

The thing about this game for me is, Hollow knight came out so long ago when the genre felt bare and didn't really have a lot of games, but since its release we have had a lot of top Metroidvania since then. I'm wondering if Silk Song is gonna have the same steam and praise as the first did so long ago.

Honestly, I might just wait to see if those playstation handheld rumors turn out to be true before I make a decision.

I just brought the game. £15.99 I was surprised at the price, thought it could be more.I am not playing it just yet as I want to finish the multiplayer trophies for Gears of War Reloaded first.

Nope. Seems like a solid platformer, but one look that the tedious grueling grind of a trophy list and I know my time is better spent elsewhere. I could platinum several other games of similar quality in the time it would take to 100% either this or the original.

I loved Hollow Knight and it’s one a “white whale” platinum trophy for me as I could never complete the pantheons.

I adored the world and exploration, and though the platforming and combat felt great.

Very looking forward to this at some point!

Nah im playing Gematombe, a brilliant wee arkanoid/puzzle bobble type game i found for £3.59 for a limited time. Well worth it for puzzle fans (and yes an easy platinum for those into that perversion) 😀

@Balaam_ Do you ever just say to yourself, “Alright, trophies aren’t that important. I should just play games for fun.”? I love getting platinums and I also dislike how my trophy list is sometimes incomplete, but it will never stop me from playing a great game. I can’t even imagine the amount of awesome games you’ve missed out on simply because the difficulty for the platinum isn’t up to your standards, as if game developers should focus primarily on trophy hunters rather than the general audience.

nope, didn’t like the feel of the first game from what i played of it.

I've been playing for the last hour or two. I was a little worried how I'd get on with it because of how much I enjoyed hollow knight, but its giving me the same feeling as when I played that for the first time. Brilliant so far.

I didn't really click with the first one so I'm naturally not playing this. Good for the folks that have been waiting for for it though.

Massively out of the loop with this and never actually tried out the original. I know people will say to play the first as it’s a great game but is there any need to storywise or can I just hop straight into silksong? If it’s essentially an improved version of the first I’d rather just jump straight into this one I think.

Just missing an option for, "What the heck is a Hollow Knight?" It sounds like the name of a game that definitely exists, but other than that, aI couldn't tell you a thing. It's been fascinating watching today's hoopla over the sequel, though.

I appreciate all the variations of "no" for the question asking if I'm a fan. I have never had any interest in playing it personally, but I respect it as a very good and highly-regarded game of the genre. And most importantly, I'm just happy my gaming brethren are much excite this day! Hope y'all are having a blast. (My equivalent day will be Silent Hill f.)

Played a bit of it and whilst I really liked the atmosphere, art style and soundtrack alot and love an old style platformer I just cannot get along with Metroidvania's at all. It's like turn based RPGS. Doesn't matter how good the rest of the game is. Which is a shame because it means I miss out on some fine games. Pleased for everyone else who will be enjoying it though. I've picked up the Arkham trilogy for 4.99 to keep me busy until Ghost of Yotei.

I know this is a PlayStation site but given I’ll be playing Hollow Knight Silksong on GamePass, I thought I’d just post this. My GamePass expires in right under 3 months. The order of games I’m planning to play through is:

Gears of War Reloaded -> Hollow Knight -> Hollow Knight Silksong -> Hi-Fi Rush -> Expedition 33

It’s a good game, but it’s extremely overrated.

@IntrepidWombat A Hollow Knight is a toilet movement that doesn't require the need for lavatory paper, a "ghostie" so to speak 😉

Started on PC Gamepass but decided to play it on PS5 since I want to play it on the weekend but I will be away from PC whereas I can take my PS5 with me.

I am expecting something good but not great and worthy of the high praise mostly, just like first one.

Played the first. Can see why it's loved but it's not my thing

@Damage99 is mandragora good? This one always intrigued me but I held off because it got somewhat panned via mainstream reviews.

I played the first game for a couple of hours and i didn't enjoyed it that much. The combat and exploration was okay but i just dislike the characters and aesthetics. With dark and blue colours dominates the samey looking background and weird insect characters design, it makes the game feels like a chore to play.

Maybe the game is a slow burner and i probably have more fun if i spend more hours with it. But from all metroidvania that i've played, Hollow Knight isn't my cup of tea.

My preferences for metroidvania, since there's plenty of trackback, i want the game to have vibrant colours, cool artstyle, and interesting characters design + background. I prefer like Castlevania SotN, Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth, Bloodstained, Guacamelee, The Messenger, Owlboy, and of course Metroid.

But i hope Hollow Knight fans enjoy the sequel 🍻

@Kraven I'm wondering if it's some kind of OCD thing, like how I have to have my white spine ps4/5 games separate to the others on the shelfs. But I'm not massively ocd, and with trophies I don't even think about them until I have nearly finished a game to see if the plat is doable because I used to let them dictate how I'd play a game and even take some of the fun away.

Hollow Knight should have been a game I like, I enjoyed all Shantae titles, Chasm, some castlevanias, bloodstained.. but I'm like @puppetmaster and just didn't like the art style. I didn't like how the game played either for that matter.

But it's always good to see people get excited for an indie title. Just a shame I can't get excited alongside everyone!

Hollow Knight has been on my to play list for years, but have just never gotten round to it.

I didn't really gel with the first one and its not a genre I particularly enjoy but I do still have an active ganepass sub so maybe I will give it a couple hours sometime.

I'm surprised how close the splits are for both polls.

@Balaam_ What an incredibly lame reason to not play a game, imo. I get if a person doesn't like the gameplay, isn't their style, or the game just kinda flat out sucks. But skipping a game because of it's Trophy/Achievement list? Crazy.

Hollow knight voidheart edition was a psplus essentials years ago.i still got that.its a really good game. Word up son

Update: not gonna buy this game on PS5. They put the game up on the Store with one price and then they removed it and put the game again but more expensive than it was before. Silksong on PS4/PS5 is more expensive than any other version of the game on any other platform here in Brazil. Steam, Nintendo and Xbox all have WAY more affordable prices than PS Store. I'll buy this game on Steam

@BecauseBecause it's not OCD if you don't feel anxiety or any sort of panic if you ignore what your mind is telling you to do (like the trophy stuff you mentioned). OCD causes a lot of suffering and distress. Separating things by color or size (like you do with your games) doesn't necessarily mean you have OCD, sometimes it's just you organizing things on your own way and you just feel a satisfaction by doing it.

Your behavior can be considered OCD if you feel anxious, impaired in your daily life or forced to do whatever your mind is telling you to do (organizing things or playing games until you get all trophies, for example), otherwise you won't feel a sense of inner peace and you'll start to crumble, have repetitive thoughts about the thing you just ignored and so on. Since i don't know if you're diagnosed with OCD, I'm just making a very superficial assessment while trying to answer your question

Source: me, who has OCD, depression , anxiety disorder and autism, and take medicine to keep my suffering at minimum, but gladly, my OCD doesn't involve getting trophies in games

I started DQVIII on PS2, and am still mopping up in Shinobi, so not rn. Silksong will only get better, anyway. The haters are funny on this one. Predictable.

@windxtravelerx Alright, well I don't want to make light of what you have to go through as whatever I have that's not diagnosed sounds fairly trivial to yourself. But I am sure I have anxiety about a lot of things, it's stopped me from looking for work. It can be crippling.

So what does it mean if I put a disc in a case and the image isn't upright, I can't just close the case knowing it's wonky inside, I have to rotate it until it's correct, otherwise it will feel like there is disorder. It makes no sense when I have a messy table! But I am not OCD in the way of doing things like switching lights on and off repeatedly.

Will purchase if it comes out on physica otherwise there is a catalog of other games on my list

I was going to play hollow Knight silk song at launch but Sony decided that the Brazilian price for the game would be twice as much as any other platform so now I am waiting for a price drop.
Either that or i'll buy it on switch

Yes I just bought it, and no I'm not a fan of the first hollow knight. I think I already has the first game but I forget where (either xbox store, psn, or eshop), I don't like the first game because it seems the environment looks the same.

I'm thoroughly enjoying Hell is Us instead. My son is playing Silksong though.

@Dalamar this is usually how things work in every medium since the dawn of time, people can dislike something others think is the best thing ever , unfortunately we live in a time when a lot of people base their tastes on what social media tells them to, making them invalid.

@BecauseBecause no, that's OK. I was informing you rather than criticizing you. And yes, anxiety can be quite bad as well. Some people have a really bad case of anxiety, while others have what we call GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder), which is my case. The issues i have (OCD, GAD, Depression and SPD, which in my case is a very low tolerance for loud noises) are comorbidities of my autism, that's why i have so many things at once

If what you have doesn't affect your daily life, then you shouldn't worry about, but i would advise you to seek professional help to maybe treat this anxiety if it's still bad. The medicine I'm taking helped me a lot, and when i have a very serious case of severe anxiety i have an emergency antidepressant that cuts down my anxiety and makes me sleep.

Anyway, i really hope you're doing better now and i hope that at least what i said helped you (or maybe an anon, who knows) to inform about these stuff. Mental Health is very important, after all. Have a nice day

Can we expect a review?

I bounced off Hollow Knight so hard. I thought I'd enjoy it since it was so well regarded and I enjoy Souls-likes. But I REALLY don't like Metroidvanias and it just didn't click with me.

Happy people finally get to enjoy the sequel, though. Hope it lives up to the hype.

@lindos Yeah, check back then. I might've even played an hour of Silksong at that point.

There's just too many games. I've probably beaten shy of 200 games since Hollow Knight. And now my gametime is dwindling by the year due to life. I don't expect to even start HK for another couple years at least.

@KundaliniRising333 It has a few frustrating balance issues but I love the setting, combat, and crafting. It's a great game overall.

If you love the medieval era and enjoy games like Dark Souls, Salt and Sanctuary I recommend it.

Of course I am playing it. So is my flatmate, we share a PS5, and as he went to bed he dropped me a message saying that I was still ahead of him but he had defeated a boss I hadn't Sister Splinter... So I thought so she's not the crucial boss, the other boss I'm facing must be the crucial one, I spent 4 hours today fighting Savage Beast fly to find out he wasn't crucial, then an hour and a half against Sister Splinter to find out she was the crucial boss. Wall cling will take me to the end game. It's going to take me years to platinum this by getting a below 5 hours completion time. The 100% in under 30 hours will be much easier to get after a few more playthroughs, and I know the lay of the land etc. I reckon that beating Sister Splinter has to be around the halfway point... I'm 23 hours in.

A game that would work on ps2, ooh Sony your powerful ps5 is spoiling us🥱
