Bye Sweet Carole is out now on the PS5, and it may be among the best-looking games on the console.
That doesn’t automatically make it a great game, of course, and reviews of the PC version have been a bit mixed.
Everyone agrees that the title looks incredible, with its 90s-style Disney presentation. But there’s been some criticism of the gameplay, which has been described as shallow. The campaign apparently takes around four hours to beat.

Here’s how the dev describes the game:
“Bye Sweet Carole is a narrative-horror adventure game completely hand-drawn in the style of classic animated films. Follow the trail of missing Carole Simmons and uncover the dark secrets hidden behind her disappearance from Bunny Hall orphanage.”
With a £19.99/$24.99 price point, and a 20% PS Plus discount, it may be worth checking out for its artistic merits alone. The digital version’s available now, and a physical release is also planned for later in the year.

Well I guess people are finally talking about Goodbye Sweet Carole now eh @SamMR?
With a soundtrack by one hit wonder Neil Diamond!
I saw some gameplay a few weeks ago, at first I thought it looked excellent but after watching for a while it seems a bit boring to play.
Shallow game-play with great aesthetics? Sounds like almost all F2P RPGs.
Not what a lot of people want from their interactive entertainment. At that point just go and watch a Ghibli classic. Or, you know, a Disney.
I’ve been following this since it was first announced! Looking forward to picking it up in the future
I watched my brother play it yesterday and the gameplay looked boring. Definitely looks the part though.
I'll be trying it for myself. If it is short enough and interesting enough, it could be the kind of thing you replay every other year or so around Halloween.
The art is great, but 4 hours long and $25 isn't gonna do it for a lot of customers.
As soon as I watched I got instant Nostalgia. Anyone else here remember Dragon's Lair in the arcade? Looked just like this, a disney cartoon animated engine. Was in arcades in 1983, so it was very, very advanced at the time. People in arcades would watch in awe. To put into perspective, that was 2 yrs before the OG NES release in north america. So home graphics were still super inferior to any arcade cabinet
@StitchJones Dragon’s Lair in the arcade is what I thought of immediately!
It’s definitely more fun to play than it is to watch. It’s sort of a mix between old school point and click games and clock tower. Really good so far.
@Westernwolf4 Right?! That was kind of a big moment for gaming. However, it was all quick time events without the button press prompts on screen if I remember, right? I wasn't really big into playing DL, but was indeed a showcase I'll remember.
@StitchJones This is exactly right. The gameplay wasn’t great, but the visuals at the time were a revelation. I still remember just sitting there staring at it while my Dad was trying to get me to leave the arcade!
This game sounds right up my ally and people saying it's Clock Tower like is making me want to break my buying ban.
@Westernwolf4 lol that's so great. I couldn't stand the game, because you had to memorize the quick time hits since there was no prompts. But like you, my jaw would hit the floor from the visuals. Maybe I shouldn't speak for us all, but not in a million years back then did we think we would have home consoles such as PS, that would bring graphics that belittle DL, with RPG mechanics and whatever else tethered to them and have a thing called the internet where we can chat with friendly strangers about all things gaming.
I'm very proud to have been able to grow up in the Arcade era, play those cabinets and then see home consoles evolve to the point where i'm still gaming at 50yo.
@get2sammyb Any chance you guys might be able to review this one? Or really any one of the Hookshot sites. Just looking for a voice I trust on this one. Existing reviews are all over the place.
Watching other people play Dragon’s Lair was more fun than playing Dragon’s Lair.
Onto the wishlist it goes, will buy it once it hits a 50% or more discount
@StitchJones Dragon's Lair was animated by Don Bluth, and you can tell the makers of this game were heavily inspired by him. He also made the Secret of NIMH movie.
I haven't played this yet, but bought it just for the Don Bluth style animation. Plus I like supporting games like this, we need more of them instead of the formulaic carbon copy AAA garbage we seem to be getting over and over.
@StitchJones Me too. Our gaming journeys sound very similar. 😃
I had a Pong, and an Atari 2600. Now I just sit there staring at the vistas in Ghost of Yotei in disbelief. It is such a great time to be a gamer!
@Westernwolf4 I agree. My first was an Intellivision. I was never a Nintendo guy. Was always more of a hardcore game gamer. Mortal Kombat was my thing in the arcades as a teenager. It's always been a great time to be a gamer. There's been some ups/downs, but I agree right now is fantastic due to the GTA6 affect.
Got the physical copy coming in soon, should be a blast.
Was concerned about this. Animation looks really good but the gameplay could get boring.
Physical here is come.
