GTA 4 PS5, PS4 Port Rumours Continue to Pick Up Pace 1

If you’re a PlayStation fan, then GTA 4 has become one of Rockstar’s long-lost releases.

The dreary Liberty City escapade and its two expansions are only playable on the PS3, and because Sony’s never expanded backwards compatibility support to its last-last-gen system, you’ll need original hardware if you want to play them.

In the case of Red Dead Redemption, the label rectified this by releasing a native PS4 port, which runs at 60fps in backwards compatibility on the PS5.

And there have been rumours the publisher may be about to repeat that strategy with Niko Bellic’s moody romp.

Temporarily, fans noticed that the official support page for GTA 4 included a reference to the PS4 as a supported platform. While we were writing this article, the page got updated, removing any mention of the last-gen console. However, you can see evidence through here.

This tallies with the rumours from Rockstar know-it-all Tez2 earlier in the year, when he hinted a port of GTA 4 could be coming to modern systems later this year. In this case, putting it on PS4 would suffice because it’d also be playable on the PS5 through backwards compatibility, presumably with improvements.

Of course, it’s also entirely possible this was a straight-up mistake by the publisher, which it’s since rectified.

Assuming GTA 4 is coming to the contemporary PlayStation platforms this year, we’d expect it to be announced fairly imminently. It’d certainly be a good way to pass the time before GTA 6 launches in May.
