Re: Nintendo Is Losing Its Identity, Says Ex-PlayStation Boss

kyleforrester87

He has a point but I think while an interesting new gimmick could go one way for Nintendo it could just as easily go the other!

Like others have mentioned, it’s the software that is really going to matter. For me, once I see a new openworld Mario, Zelda or Xenoblade Chronicles (and I like what I see, of course!) I will bite, and I’ll get Mario Kart then too. Those 4 games could justify the console purchase for me.

Re: Poll: 5 Years Later, How Do You Feel About Final Fantasy 7 Remake?

kyleforrester87

It's a good effort and probably the best we could have hoped for but overall disappointing. I don't vibe with the changes they made to the story, the new characters are largely annoying, the filler content in the hub sections spoils the flow of the game and then the sections between those areas are somehow too linear and dragged out. The character progression felt meaningless and it just felt like I was somehow playing FF7 as a theme park ride, basically. Anyway, I had a lot more fun with, say, Nier Automata and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and 3.

Nice music though and they did Jessie justice!

I’m trying to make sense of Xenoblade Chronicles X. I hardly have a clue what is going on tbh and I played the other 3. I am having some fun figuring it out though, so we’ll see.

Also picked up the fantastic Hyper Light Drifter on the Steam Deck, it looks glorious on that OLED screen 🤤

Also I have been playing a bit of Final Fantasy 5 on my RG35XX recently. It’s not bad!

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Thoughts on Potential $80 PS5 Games?

kyleforrester87

As hobbies go, gaming (especially on a console) is really cheap and offers great bang for your buck, even at £80. It does seem a lot of money to charge for a game though, especially when you see the same software a few years old on sale at under £7…

I would spend £80 on a game, but it would just make me a lot choosier and I would be much more inclined to wait for stuff to go on sale, as I already have been after other recent increases.

I still can’t call it an expensive hobby though… I cycle as well, now THAT is an expensive hobby 😵‍💫

I’m sitting in the garden playing Fenyx Rising on steam deck, I’ve been having quite a lot of fun with it for 15 hours or so. I am reading it’s only a 25-30 hour game but not sure how that works as I am still in the second area.. Not sure I will see it to the end but I am impressed so far, and I only spent a few quid on it. I really want to get Xenoblade Chronicles X but I am going to get what I can out of Fenyx first.

Re: Preview: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Looks Stunning, Hits Hard, and Feels Fresh on PS5

kyleforrester87

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was pretty front loaded on all the good stuff, too many games run out of steam in the final third unfortunately, particularly when made by smaller teams. But that’s the way she goes. Keeping an eye on this as it does look very cool and if it’s a success then a new ongoing franchise is always nice. Also, I don’t really vibe with the name

On Steam Deck, I have been playing Final Fantasy 13 a lot this week. Hated it back at launch but Xenoblade Chronicles has desensitised me to a lot of the things I didn’t like and, dare I say it, I am actually enjoying it quite a lot now.

Also playing Titan Fall 2 and Felvideck!

And some more Silent Hill 2 on PS5.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Gaming Plans for the Holidays?

kyleforrester87

What am I doing, I’m not sure. I have Silent Hill 2 lined up as a present, but I don’t think I’ll get chance to play that until nearer new year.

Incidentally, I think I have 2 copies coming so will be looking to give one away to a fellow Push Squarer once I have them both to hand….

Otherwise I will be rocking out on the Steam Deck playing various games, and probably some Final Fantasy 7 on the Anbernic.

Merry Christmas, guys.

@Th3solution I remembered late this year, and weirdly I couldn’t find my Christmas avatar and still can’t. I’ve been too stacked at work and home to try and dig it up. Look out for it in October 2025!

@colonelkilgore the co-op, microtransactions and shift to more action based gameplay was only going to pi*s off the fan base at the time really, and I do understand all that. I guess I was one of those fans at the time, too. The developers were clearly not making the game they wanted to make (and this has become more obvious since release through interviews and stuff).

But 10 years on, there is a lot to appreciate. The graphics, art design, music, voice acting are all top notch. The gameplay is a lot of fun (although can get a little overwhelming near the end with the amount of enemies it throws at you). The story is really interesting although I did need to do some reading up on the internet to understand some of what was going on as it is a bit confusing with the black markers, red markers, brethren moons, etc. but I do appreciate the depth of the story the game (and franchise) tells.

My only real gripes with the game were the weird love triangle, and how all that played out. Pretty dumb considering the circumstances they were in. Carvers character development was really poor too!

I finished Dead Space 3 yesterday on Steam Deck. Enjoyed it a lot. I’m going to pay for the DLC to experience the full story, it’s a shame this was cut but I can justify £7. I’ll probably have a run through on Dead Space 2 next as it’s been over 10 years.

Also playing The Witcher 3. And I got Tomb Raider Legends and Deus Ex for 89p each.

And Final Fantasy 7 on RG35XX!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 557

kyleforrester87

I’m about 60% through Dead Space 3 on Steam Deck, more or less where I stopped playing it back on PS3. I am enjoying it a lot more this time. Obviously inferior to 2 overall, it’s still great. Looks beautiful sometimes, too.

I also picked up the Braid remaster, which I also played back on PS3. Loving that, too!

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think of the PS5 Pro, Three Weeks Later?

kyleforrester87

My TV was pretty good when I got it back in 2016, and while I am still really happy with it I don’t see the point in getting a Pro without a TV upgrade too. Factor in my general lack of enthusiasm for most games on the console this generation, and that the money is better spent on a Steam Deck and Switch 2, I am happy to wait for the PS6 and get that along with a new telly.

Re: Xbox Appears to Be Readying More Releases for PS5

kyleforrester87

@silverspeed Yes, both Red Alert and Retaliation were available on PS1. So when I hear people complain that you need a mouse and keyboard for games like Age of Empires 2 I know for a fact that is not true as I used to fly around on a D-pad back in the day! Interestingly, you can also play RA on the Vita through the PS1 Classics catalogue. But now that I mention it, from memory it had difficulty processing the music without lag... Hmm..

Good to hear they work on the Deck, looking forward to playing them again soon. Enjoy!

Re: Xbox's Legendary Strategy Series Seemingly Set to Invade PS5

kyleforrester87

@Vaako007 I didn’t play too much of Zero Hour, which is a shame because I was mad for the base game for quite a while. But by the time the expansion came out I had kind of moved on. Generals is pretty underrated IMO although I can see why fans of the old games might not have gelled with it. The soundtrack for USA got me so pumped!
