"It doesn’t matter how much you deny it, people are going to realise that you’re a geek if you’ve got the Platinum Trophy in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Dragon Age II."

Oh crap! I've been had! xD

Anyway, this whole article made me Facepalm so hard that there's a 5 inch depression from my elbow in my bed. Ludicrous that people would even spend money on things like this. Pandering to the lowest common denominator is what this is doing.

Re: Gamescom 2014: PS4 Titles to Take Centre Stage at the Tokyo Game Show

kensredemption

@Ginkgo The Wii U's outsold the PS4 in Japan by leaps and bounds since the Japanese developers favor it immensely. The Wii U even has the original Final Fantasy games from I to VI on the Virtual Console service as well as Koei Tecmo's historical sims, MMOs as well as Square Enix's Dragon Quest X. I swear, the Wii U would do so much better everywhere if their more sought after titles were localized to the west or at least get rid of region restrictions.

Anyway, there's only so much so many of us can assume about the Japanese consumer base. We don't live there, so therefore we can never tell what they might want or what their preferences are.

What is a common trend, however, is the lack of appeal behind the premium services like PlayStation Plus. I made a comment about this before, but they're already paying out the wazoo for their games (upwards of $100) and they don't have a used game market there, so if they want something new they'll have to buy it new every time. Add the monthly fee of PS+ on top of it and the PS4 looks like nothing more to them than a gold sink. The only games that would have any appeal to them at all would be the ones that accommodate free online play.

That's not speculation. That's observation.

Re: There May Still Be Hope for the PlayStation 4 in Japan Yet

kensredemption

Sony's mistake was trying to market a western-oriented system to Japan. The PS4's already all the rage in the west, for all the obvious reasons (graphics, premium subscription perks, social networking features and action-oriented games). The Japanese pay an obscene amount for consumer electronics and don't have a used game market there. New games cost upwards of $100. Forcing a PS+ subscription on top of that just to play games online will alienate them. The Wii U does everything its next-gen brethren do in regards to games, but allows for many free perks that outweigh those of the PS4 and XBO. The Wii U will go on strong for quite some time until Sony decides to reform its policies.

Re: Sony Sued $5 Million Over PS4 Shooter Killzone: Shadow Fall's Graphics

If that whiny b*stard gets any money out of this ridiculous case, then I'd better get some of that too. Hell, EVERYONE who owns a PS4 should get money. He thinks he deserves it because he was neurotic enough to discover a slip up like that? Screw that. This is Amurica, and we deserve money for doing next to nothing for real work.

It's stupid crap like this that makes me ashamed to be an American. -_-

Re: Sony: We Want to Make PS4 Players Feel Special

kensredemption

I don't feel all that special but at the same time I couldn't really care less. I've used my PS4 for Final Fantasy XIV and it's been much more beneficial for me since I seldom lag or get booted from the game or suddenly monsters disappear from my screen compared to the PS3 version. Not to mention the benefits of the Party chat feature. It's just made MMO gaming on a home console much more accessible. Now we just need cross-platform games between the NWU and XBO and next-gen will have truly arrived.

Re: Unsurprisingly, Metal Gear Solid Still Sells Best on PlayStation Platforms

kensredemption

@Diddy_kong I remember hearing somewhere that MGS4 wasn't profitable because it was a PS3 exclusive. It's probably a move by Konami rather than Kojima to make it multi-plat. What puzzles me is why they won't put this on the Wii U as well. Nothing against the Fox Engine, but it doesn't look like it's beyond the Wii Us capabilities. After all, whatever the 360 can do: The Wii U can do much better.

I'm just hoping for GameCube titles on the Virtual Console so I can hopefully play The Twin Snakes again.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Pay for an EA Access Subscription on PS4?

kensredemption

Since EA's been treating Nintendo and Sony fans like third class citizens, I refuse to buy anything tied to them anymore. That unfortunately means that I'll have to cancel my Dragon Age reservation, but if luck holds, I could get it used for $10 in two months after release.

As long as my money never reaches EA's money grubbing hands, I can sleep at night. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll just troll around on ME3 for my Wii U since it's the only next-gen console with a ME title so far. That, plus I'm still continuing my boycott of EA products that aren't available on Nintendo platforms.

...Actually, you know what? Screw it. I'll just collectively burn any EA games I come across. lol

Re: The PlayStation 4 Just Can't Catch A Break In Japan

kensredemption

I think we can blame the poor sales on one thing:

PlayStation Now

The Japanese pay an obscene amount of money for new games already, but with the lack of backwards compatibility AND the fact that their cloud service doesn't guarantee a permanent purchase of titles along with a mandatory PlayStation Plus subscription for most online multiplayer games, it's no wonder the Wii U is more appealing than the PS4 AND XBO.

Re: E3 2014: A Staggering Number of Xbox Fans Have Converted to PS4, Says Sony

kensredemption

This particular statistical focus worries me. The last thing I want is to run into a bunch of hipsters thinking graphics, mainstream third-party titles and premium services make the "best" console. The only game I've been playing hardcore on my PS4 so far is Final Fantasy XIV and that's only because I don't have to pay for party chat or to play online - save for Square Enix's subscription fee. Knack was broken, but fun. Definitely a masochistic platformer. Killzone: Shadow Fall looked too much like an Unreal game like Gears of War or Bulletstorm and was absurdly imbalanced online. As for third-party support, it's still as patchy and buggy as it was last-gen. Apparently, "good" games need to be constantly adjusted post-launch. No thanks, I'll still hop on my Wii U to play MK8, and since Bayonetta AND Bayonetta 2 are coming to the Wii U in the fall alongside Hyrule Warriors and Super Smash Bros. I may not boot the PS4 up for a few months. I'd better get the platinum trophy in XIV before then...
