Trolls are an unfortunate part of the Internet, and something that we all have to learn to deal with. However, filtering out a few comments is easy – but avoiding offensive streams on Twitch is not. Overnight, hackers managed to compromise PlayStation’s official broadcasting account, essentially leading to the creation of some pretty offensive content, which has since been removed. Unbelievably, some of this ire was directed at the recent Rise of the Tomb Raider announcement.
Both the Xbox and eSports League accounts were also affected, and it seems that unattended terminals at Gamescom 2014 may have been the cause of the disturbance. “Since these are all companies at Gamescom, we believe that it is somebody who has gained access to logged in computers at the venue,” explained a Twitch spokesperson. “As a precautionary measure, we temporarily removed highlights and past broadcasts for those channels since it's in the early hours of the morning in Cologne.”
Let this be a lesson to all of you: don’t leave a computer unattended at a convention – especially when you’re logged in to a major corporate account.

Idiots
The internet....where mouthy poisonous morons get to be assholes to whomever they like from behind the protection of a keyboard or a camera lense.
@Munkyknuts That's a pretty accurate summary actually. It's sad, but, there you go.
What did they post? Did they upload some porn or something?
@RawShark not seen it but as far as I've read it was racist/ homophobic slurs and 'announcements' for games such as gears of war anf fallout..
Sounds like some people are eating sour grapes over Sony's gamescom. HAHAHA!!!
Serves them well for abandoning Tomb Raider like that!
Wait?! Wut? Ooooh, Sony had nothing to do with it, it was a deal between MS and Squeenix overseen by the devil?!
Unbelievable how some people react to these things. I really start to hate the internet as of lately. I hate to tell stories bout the 'old' days, but when we all were relatively new to the internet, and later online gaming, here were trolls too...but not a fraction of today's internet. I think back bout those early days a lot recently and I miss the communities, the unwritten rules and internet-ethics, the online gaming with polite instructions and teamwork and the happiness of unlimited porn off course, where up until that point I only had this old National Geographic with this Zulu tribe on the bathroom with women who's nipples hung on their knees.... Aaah, good times.
@Boerewors When did that ever happen? gaming on the internet was always full of whiners and trolls. Constantly trying to fight through bad music through microphones and people always whining saying "THIS IS UNBALANCED, IT'S NOT FAIR".
Sad that the internet provides such great protection to devious A-holes.
Someone dun goofed?
The day a grown person has to learn etiquette and respect over the internet is the day I give up on humanity.
@kensredemption
agreed. it is kinda what the internet is, we all know it. are we really surprised by this? the internet is our purge zone.
This article didn't actually say what the "offensive content" was.
That's about is informative as reading a story about a crime without the story actually saying what the crime was.
@DarkKirby I love your avatar!
Someone highjacked the account and started using foulmouthed language that isn't http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh2sWSVRrmo (thinking of the children) Its through the link.
@SunnyShores I shouldn't be surprised. MMOs are full of loudmouths whose lives are so empty that they have to condescend to novice players to validate their own existence, but something like this that penetrates through boundaries - ethical and possibly legal - is going too far in my opinion.
@kensredemption
and many people share that opinion, including myself. i wasn't trying to say it's alright, i'm just saying it is what it is.
@SunnyShores No, I know what you're saying and it's just what it looks like. Still, it's very upsetting and disappointing. I imagine that this would be another reason people would use to stereotype gamers as dysfunctional people.
@kensredemption
I detest the stigma involved with gaming. everything has it's price i suppose.
