Obsidian's highly anticipated sci-fi role-playing game, The Outer Worlds, is supposed to launch later this year, and fortunately, Game Informer is here to ask the developer all about its upcoming project. We've already had a few info dumps leading up to this point, but in the publication's latest Rapid-Fire Questions video, there are some particularly juicy details.
For one, your companions can die permanently on the game's hardest difficulty, which immediately sounds brutal. This also means that you'll no longer be able to help them out with their own missions, or ask them for advice, or even get to know them better. Obviously, because they're dead. On every other difficulty, they'll simply be knocked unconscious should they fall in battle.
On top of that, Obsidian is currently considering a New Game Plus mode for The Outer Worlds, there's hacking but there's no hacking minigame (thank god), more companions will be revealed as we get closer to the game's release, you'll be able to join different factions, there are multiple endings, and there are no fart jokes... Yet.
So yeah, the video's well worth a watch, but are you looking forward to The Outer Worlds? Take a tour of the galaxy in the comments section below.

Think it's a great idea , in these games the are usual companions I wish I could kill myself
Don't tell anybody but I quite liked the hacking minigames in Mass Effect 2.
That was a fun interview, and I’m really looking forward to this game.
Flashbacks to Dogmeat
This is definitely my most anticipated game of 2019! I say that largely because the other games I’m looking forward to will possibly / likely be bumped to 2020.
Sounds great, the best hacking was definitely in Nier Automata!
@MightyDemon82 I haven’t played Nier yet, but Bioshock comes to mind for an example of a good hacking mini-game.
Seems like an interesting addition for added replayability
I won't be playing that setting then.
Also looking for to this, it may very well be Obsidian's last PlayStation outing. Sure hope they go out with a bang
you know it's something that can work in a game but it's not a particular mechanic i like
i like to build up my party and get to know them, knowing they could be permanently gone at any moment means i don't bother to form a connection with them making them superfluous and just kind of there
There’s a special place in hell for hacking mini games.
97h into the game: "Remember that guy who died ~80h ago? You should have saved him because you can't finish the game without him"
There is always a difference between hard and punishing difficulties.
