I use my Portal for the PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming and so far its been flawless. Without the need for the PS5 to be on (or even own one if you don't want) it's like it's a standalone console.
@Rich33 Some mobile phone manufacturers are starting to change that though, Samsung offers up to seven years of security and OS updates for flagship devices like the Galaxy S24 series and newer, with select mid-range models receiving up to six years. Even Apple devices are now getting 5-7 years of software support.
Though I suppose there's more factors into why some people upgrade every two years such as cosmetic damage, broken screens, poor battery etc. But in terms of Software and even Hardware it's getting to a point where you're set for atleast 5 years with a new phone without it feeling outdated.
But the majority will still upgrade sooner anyway, as who doesn't like to have the newest shiny device out. Most feel inferior using old tech.
@Oram77 I keep seeing comments all over the Internet about how gamers won't pay certain prices and even the casuals would be priced out of next gen if it's above £500 etc but like with your comment above I keep thinking how can people say this whilst millions are paying more for mobile phones every 2-3 years. Yes most people don't pay the full price upfront for their phone but the same can be said about consoles, there's many options to have consoles on finance like PayPal credit and pay in 3, Klarna, Clearpay, and others.
I think Sony should just go all out to cover all bases, launch with the standard PS6, PS6 Pro that matches the new Xbox console on specs and price, and an PS6 handheld.
The Pro needs to stop being a mid gen update and instead be an option from the start.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner Exactly, PS6 will be attracting the Non PC players, Playstation fans, casuals and those that buy the cheaper console. Whereas Xbox are going after the PC crowd but at that price point isn't better to just buy an actual decent PC that can be upgraded over time.
To the masses of casuals they will just see it as a new Playstation and Xbox console without even researching the specs, they will just laugh at that Xbox price and buy the PS6. So if it's true then that's just baffling from Microsoft, they are targeting the hardcore gamers who are the minority and most of them won't move from Playstation knowing full well their games are coming over anyway.
Astro Bot and Death Stranding 2 have showed what the PS5 is capable of in many ways. Also in my opinion the dualsense is the best controller they've made and is a joy to use when devs make full use of it's features.
What's there left to do? They have tried gimmicks in the past and it don't work out like the eye toy and playstation move. They have innovated the controller to a point where there's nothing else to add apart from better battery life. They have the VR as as a seperate device, Portal for handheld gaming. I just don't see what's left for Playstation to incorporate into the PS6 gen other than better visuals and performance.
Sony tried this for years but the sales for the smaller games were abysmal. People can keep bringing up games like Sly, Gravity Rush and Japan Studio games but unless the majority are on baord then there just isn't any financial worth in making these smaller/cheaper titles.
Maybe they should just loan out their old IP's to more third party devs, but then again Freedom Wars went down that route and that didn't do so well.
@Oram77 Yeah starting to sound like a bot account now, pretty much every article to do with Sony you know for a fact he's going comment and can guess what he's going to say.
I have no problems with my controllers, I have my PS5 in a custom stand that has two slots to charge two controllers so it's just easy to take one and replace it with one that's out of charge.
Hmm around the same time something unforeseen has put the Corpse Party collection on hold. Any links between the games? Like composers, voice actors etc?
Excellent month in my opinion, I will be playing Silent Hill 2 and trying to get into the Yakuza games with Like a Dragon. I might also give Until Dawn another playthrough, see how the PS5 version differs.
@johnedwin it's being produced and distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment with the help of Nintendo's Miyamoto and Ex Marvel's Avi Arad as producers.
@Ralizah Tbf it still went on to sell over 24 million copies so I don't think it was ever over shadowed especially as Zelda was a launch title. But, as someone who had both games that week it was a very good week for gaming, for me personally they were easily the best games of last gen for their respective consoles. So to see them both get films around the same time is going to be an amazing experience... Hopefully 😅.
Well atleast they are adding new events unlike some re using the same events years after year. This looks pretty neat in my opinion so il definitely give it a try.
@Lowdefal They invested a lot on its western distribution, it's only been over the last year or two that Netflix, Amazon and Disney have started to invest into Anime now that it's "took off", but Sony have been invested for years.
Sony invested in Anime whilst no none else wanted to, they saw its potential and took the gamble on it becoming huge and guess what.... it paid off. Now that Anime is more mainstream all of a sudden people are moaning they have too much control 😂.
Also it's just smart business wise to in source than to out source, far cheaper and you already know what you're getting.
@CWill97 Thanks for the reply, I have been looking at this series for a while and want to give it a serious playthrough but the amount of games kinda put me off. But, I originally said the same about the Trails games and now it's one of my favourite series. I will definitely be giving this a go then next week, hopefully I can get into it as I hear its a turn based which I much prefer in games.
A $1000 for an handheld is just way too much, especially one that's not as powerful as a $400 console. Hopefully Sony doesn't follow this pricing otherwise I won't be buying it. I'd rather stick with my Portal and want Sony to let us cloud stream games we own and not just the ones on Playstation Plus Extra/Premium.
I see the haters are out again. What is it about Sony that triggers them so bad.....
Is it so hard to say well done to Sucker Punch and Yotei, but no people have to try and play it down and make a narrative that goes against the article, and it's constant
I'd say sign me up and I'm in for the games not the gimmicks and specs.
But, the price and if it has a disk drive are big factors to if I get it day one or not. Although I suppose selling my PS5 would knock a big chunk off the price.
@LogicStrikesAgain Exactly, the amount of amazing games released over the last 5 years has been insane, and there's plenty more to come over the next two years atleast. I've played more games this gen that I'd give a 9 or 10 than I did last gen that's for sure.
Tbf PS2 launched 6 years after the PS1, PS3 launched 6 years after the PS2, PS4 launched 7 years after the PS3 and the PS5 7 years after the PS4.
So a 6-7 year gap between gen seems to normal so 2026/27 would be in line with previous gens. Hopefully though so can get next gen rolling faster with some big next gen exclusives within the first 6 months.
Xbox releasing a console that's "Considerably more expensive" than the PS6 would literally be the final nail in the coffin. History tells us no one cares who has the more powerful console, brand power and exclusives are what matter and PS6 is going to be the console to have next gen, it being way cheaper is just the cherry on top.
Won't be starting it until the 27th but il be voting it a 10 in the poll, just to counter the usual people who haven't played but give it a 1.
But judging from the reviews, bits I've seen on YouTube and people's comments on here I can tell I'm going to love it anyway as it's basically Tsushima but better and Tsushima for me was a 10/10.
How many PS4 consoles were sold in Japan before Tsushima released vs how many PS5 consoles have sold in Japan before Yotei released? Surely that has to factor into any sales equations.
I wouldn't call 200k difference a "comfortably beating", but still this just shows that console gaming is definitely not dying like some keep saying. Looking forward to playing Pokémon, Hyrule Warriors and Metroid over the next couple of months.
But they don't fit Sony's policy, Sony pretty much abandoned the lower budget games as they didn't make enough money on them. So why would they acquire an indie studio?
@AverageGamer Only difference is on Xbox the majority will be playing on gamepass, and those who owned the original remake got this new version for free.

Re: PS Portal Still a Huge Success as Sony Reportedly Preps PS6 Handheld
@yohn777 Just by Europe being Playstations biggest market, so I would assume the attach would be higher, hopefully we get some stats soon.
Re: PS Portal Still a Huge Success as Sony Reportedly Preps PS6 Handheld
@LogicStrikesAgain it's 5% of America's sales only not PS5 sales in total globally.
Actually I wouldn't be surprised to see it have an higher attach rate in Europe.
