Ghost of Yotei Is Sony's Biggest PS5 Launch Since Spider-Man 2 in Europe 1

Ghost of Yotei, the latest historical sandbox from Seattle studio Sucker Punch, is crushing it.

According to sales data emerging out of Europe – which compiles both physical and digital data – the sequel is selling in-line with its predecessor Ghost of Tsushima, which launched to a much more mature PS4 install base during the height of the pandemic.

It’s actually Sony’s biggest new PS5 release since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, although cynics may argue there hasn’t really been much competition.

Ultimately, it means it’s outperforming the likes of Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, and even Helldivers 2 – although we are just specifically looking at launch week sales here. The latter obviously went on to become a phenomenon across PS5 and PC.

Despite all this success, Ghost of Yotei couldn’t overtake EA Sports FC 26, which naturally topped the GSD European sales charts for the week ending 5th October.

Other new releases that made the top ten include Digimon Story: Time Stranger and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.

We should note, the overall unit sales chart has been impacted by cut-price software included in the Steam Autumn Software Sale, which boosted titles like DOOM: Eternal by more than 8,000% after being flogged for a few pence.
