Re: Valve's Steam Machine May Not Be As Affordable As a PS5

UltimateOtaku91

@4fold This isn't next gen though, infact it's weaker than the base PS5. If this costs £600+ then it's going to make the PS6 look well worth it's price especially to tech nerds. Instead of trying to lure console gamers to PC it will be pushing current PC players to this new Steam machine who then may want to try other more powerful consoles.

Re: PlayStation CEO Pushed Through Cut-Price PS5 in Japan After Seeing System Slump Against Switch 2

UltimateOtaku91

@RoomWithaMoose Yeah I agree it's nice to see Sony's top brass wanting to claw back the Japanese market, now we just need some big Japanese exclusives or invest in more Japanese developers (or bring back Japan Studio). I will be buying any Japanese made games on the PS5 over my Switch 2, unless they are Nintendo exclusive like Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma and Hundred Line Last Defence Academy.

Re: Mobile MMO Horizon Steel Frontiers Seems to Have Captured Lots of Attention Already

UltimateOtaku91

@cragis0001 I wouldn't be surprised if the Horizon online game from Guerrilla is exactly like Monster Hunter. Where you have a main hub where you can see other players, take quests and upgrade weapons etc and then go out into large Zones to hunt the machines in 4 player squads. That way they can release and maybe support it for 12-24 months with smaller free updates like Capcom do with their Monster Hunter games. All whilst working Horizon 3 at the same time, but if it was an MMO like Steel Frontiers is then they would have to be supporting it for many years with substantial updates which I don't think Sony want them doing.

Re: 'Very Vague' Rumour Claims Sony May Scale Back PC Ports of PS5 Games

UltimateOtaku91

People don't seem to understand that Playstation fans don't want games to go to PC not because we have some fixation on exclusives or because we don't like PC, but because we care about Playstation as a brand, putting all their exclusives day one onto PC makes Playstation weaker, more and more players will shift over to PC resulting in less console sales and less money for Sony to pump into making games and developing and buying new Studios. That loss in revenue will then be recuperated elsewhere such as price increases, lay offs and Studio closures, we've seen it happen with Xbox.

The exact same would happen with Nintendo, imagine having Mario, Pokémon and Zelda on PC (or other consoles), the software sales would be increased but their hardware sales would be down and console gaming in general would decline whilst PC would grow even further. For me I care about console gaming, I care about the state of Playstation and Nintendo and do not want them jeopardising their brand by following Microsoft.

Is it so bad for people to want console gaming not to decline and stay relevant? We are already seeing physical slowly die off, and cloud streaming becoming more of a norm, so the last saving grace is traditional consoles still being highly sought after.

Re: Talking Point: Will PlayStation's Mobile Push Be a Success or a Flop?

UltimateOtaku91

Releasing mobile games is another piece of the puzzle, and it's an important one of which Sony has yet to take full advantage.

Sony own Crunchyroll and Aniplex, who have both released multiple mobile games and they also have Destiny Rising which apparently has been doing quite well and was well received by players. So it is something they are already taking advantage of, but now they just need to double down on using their PS IP's for these mobile games.

Re: Talking Point: Will PlayStation's Mobile Push Be a Success or a Flop?

UltimateOtaku91

I think it will be a success, the player base is absolutely huge and Sony would be smart to cover a lot of genres which it seems they are doing as they now have an Hero Arena Shooter (Ratchet and Clank), Gacha (Fate Grand Order), MMO (Horizon Steel Frontiers) and RPG Shooter (Destiny Rising).

They should also think about an MLB The Show mobile game, or even look further into their Anime IPs since that market is growing. Aniplex and Crunchyroll already make their own Anime mobile games, So if anything Sony are already quite experienced in this field.

Re: 'Very Vague' Rumour Claims Sony May Scale Back PC Ports of PS5 Games

UltimateOtaku91

It would be a smart decision for Sony to pull away from PC in terms of their single player games, whilst still releasing live service games on PC. They need their big single player games to stay exclusive to Playstation consoles for a big selling point, especially if Xbox goes the same route as the steam machine which would then mean there's 3 "consoles" of choice for Sony made games, well eventually.

Instead they should double down on mobile releases, there's way much more money to be made on mobile than on PC. They will make more money form the Horizon MMO and Destiny mobile game than all of their single player PC releases combined.

Re: Poll: Does the Steam Machine Pose a Threat to PS5?

UltimateOtaku91

It's going to be very niche, there's no reason for current console owners to jump ship as its a weaker console than the base PS5 and Series X, and in two years will be even more outdated when the next Playstation and Xbox release. Plus they have tried this "steam machine" before back in 2015, it was discontinued 3 years later as it flopped.

Re: Horizon MMO Uses AI 'Extensively' in Development, Says NCSOFT

UltimateOtaku91

@Oram77 I don't mind AI for QA but using it for game design and in game art is just lazy and cheap, any games that are substantially using AI should cost less for the consumers, it's especially worse for free to play games that want you to spend hundreds on a gacha system (not sure of this has a gacha yet).

What I don't understand is if they want to use art and assets then why not just ask Guerrilla who should have a whole data base full.

Re: PS5 Is the Second Fastest Selling PlayStation Ever in the US, Despite Price Hikes and Production Issues

UltimateOtaku91

@PuppetMaster Yeah you need to spend over a thousand (if not double that) to get a high end PC that can play everything without any tinkering in the settings and downloading additional software and drivers to make sure games run well. I've seen the state some games run on the deck and how many loopholes you have to jump through to get games running reasonably and that's at 720p 30fps locked which is something some playstation games get mocked for.

This new Steam box being weaker than the PS5 and most likely cost more than the PS5 is just not worth it in 2026, it's going to be very niche.
