Starfield was seen as the flagship post-acquisition console exclusive for Xbox Series X|S when it launched in 2023, but it failed to really resonate with consumers to the level Microsoft had hoped.
The game has been rumoured for PS5 ever since, but we’re now approaching the end of 2025 and it’s still not been confirmed for the console.
The last we heard is that Bethesda is reworking the game and wants to align all of its improvements with its PlayStation debut. It’s been touted for a Spring 2026 release on Sony’s console.

But according to reliable rumourmonger Nate the Hate – who’s clearly extremely well connected – the port won’t be announced this year.
Responding to fan queries on X (or Twitter), he said: “[I] believe the announcement will be in 2026 unless plans change.”
One user pushed back on the rumour, sarcastically pointing out that the game has “been going to PS5 since 2024 according to you”. To which Nate the Hate doubled down: “And it’ll go to PS5 next year.”
The big question is whether anyone still cares: Starfield’s reputation, rightly or wrongly, is that it’s not a particularly compelling game.
At the time of writing, on Steam, there are just 2k people exploring the cosmos right now. By comparison, 14k are playing the ancient Skyrim.
We’d expected an announcement for Starfield on PS5 at The Game Awards, but it seems like that’s not going to happen.
The wait for this divisive adventure goes on.

Starfield - Now with 5% more game on the disc! 😀
Starfield was originally going to be a timed exclusive to the PS5 like Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo till Microsoft bought them.
At least if it does come out next year to PS Bethesda can work on it a little bit more first before releasing the PS5 version if it’s actually happening
Pretty average game (played it on Series S), so couldn't really care less about it.
There seems to be a lot of anticipation and excitement around the potential PS5 port of a game that most die hard fans described as "meh"
At this point may as well wait until their is a ‘complete edition’
This wiill be one that i let pass me by like a fart on the wind. Good for the ones looking forward to it but I've heard too much bad press to drop my 💰💰 on it.
No interest in the game for me personally. I'll just wait for Elder Scrolls 6 in 2037
This is my typa pish so I'll play it. Not exactly counting down the days, but I will play it.
I think if the first DLC had been well received we would have already seen a PS version, but unfortunately it tanked pretty hard. I suspect they are now waiting for the second DLC and a cyberpunk style 2.0 version in the hope it improves the game so much that it gives it a much better shot at being well received.
Played through Starfield three times on Series X.
It is an enjoyable experience, yet it is hardly revolutionary. It is definitely a fun time, whilst you are playing it, but I feel that it is nothing special.
I have also noticed that none of the decisions you make throughout seem to have actual consequences. And the game only seems to end one way.
I always assumed it would come out around the next expansion - also likely next year - as a way to drum up players with new content.
@ShadowRJ you’re seeing a lot of anticipation and excitement here… I must be looking in the wrong place!
if they are making a big update then that makes sense to hold off on the ps5 port till the update is finished so the ps5 gets the best version at launch instead of launching it then a month or two later the game is totally different.
@DonkeyFantasy Haven't the modders also given up on the game?
As an Elite Dangerous Commander I was very intrigued when I first heard this, less so when it was reviewed but my fondness of fallout mixed with space won't go away. It isn't cheap enough on PC yet to make it worth a punt.
I enjoyed the game and it has some great quests and locations and I really like what they do with ng+, the big problem is it feels so disjointed and its a nightmare trying to remember where places are. Hopefully the creation content comes over as that adds a lot to the overall experience but for me, I'll be sticking to PC and my totally not modded version 😂

From all I've seen / heard about this game they are going to need some big improvements before I would buy it.
Probably the best thing would be for Xbox to announce the PS5 version now, and state that it is planned for next year, because they are working to significantly improve the game before launching on PS5 - and tell us a bit about how the game will improve on the Xbox launch version.
They need to make it seem like these improvements are being done just for PS5 owners (but not only for). Will that upset Xbox owners - maybe a bit, but im not sure thats where their focus is at the moment, and the alternative is to offer at budget price.
One of the few that absolutely loved it on xbox and put in around 200 hours, will certainly pick it up on PS5.
@ShadowRJ there is a rumored massive expansion and free form space flight attached to the PS5 release. But yea, that doesnt really change the core package being Starfield lol
I feel they need to do a cyberpunk make over for this
@carlos82
Would much have preferred the Enterprise-E (I really liked that design), in your of course totally unmodded version... lol
At this point, do we think they've been turning it into a completely different game for a 2.0 re-release on PS5 and also, by default, pc and game pass?
I'm not sure exactly what they can do though, as they are Bethesda, and it is a very Bethesda game to start with. It's okay, good at times, but it just drags and drags and loses all momentum. A looooong time has passed since Skyrim, and Bethesda is probably the most outdated of all devs.
I got to involved in the hype for this one, then it just ended up a big disappointment for me.
I'll be there for it. I didn't enjoy my first playthrough because I played it on Xbox, on PS5 I'll probably play through it a couple of times over the years/decades^^
For PlayStation only gamers, it's a Painfully average game, not worth bothering with unless it's cheap or dumped onto PS plus.
One of the Good things about games pass, at least the old model anyway
Starfield was an ok game but just ok. It is still worth at least one play through. Bethesda did over promise a lot and got the expected reception as a result.
@DonkeyFantasy. The Xbox version has mods and some pretty decent ones too. Obviously pc is the best place for modding but Xbox does ok.
Games with mod support on Playstation has traditionally been the most limited due to a policy of not allowing external assets to be uploaded so mods could only repurpose existing game assets.
However around the time mods were made available in Balder's Gate 3 it would seem that restriction might have been silently lifted as that game and shortly after mods in Skyrim / Fallout 4 started to appear using external assets. It will be interesting to see if Starfield follows that trend when it eventually goes on PS5 and I would hope it's at least on par with Xbox mods.
From what I've seen gameplay wise and from people's comments who've played the game I'd say this is one I don't care if it makes it over at all.
I just got tired of having to get back in my space ship to visit a building I could see in the horizon, even though there was no ravines or obstructions in the way
I've said all along that Starfield will come to the PlayStation as a 'Complete Edition', @PsBoxSwitchOwner, and I think part of the reason that Bethesda are still doing another DLC, and also working on the game in general, is because they know that the game has a fairly negative overview and that it needs to be better if it is to do well on the PlayStation.
Having said that, even now, the game is better than when it first released both in terms of performance and content, so those 7s it received should probably be 8s by now, though it will be interesting to see whether it is marked down by PlayStation centric websites simply because it released first on the Xbox (and PC)...
Oh no. PS5 waits another year to get a very mediocre Bethesda game.
I regret buying this on disc for Series X. I just keep bouncing off of it every time I try to give it another chance.
so just more made up rumors
They can keep it. I played it on pc and honestly it’s one of the most boring games they’ve ever made
@LeeBB_Art Just play Cyberpunk, much better 👍
Release it on PS5 when it's actually ready. Because the version on X|S was not very good at all.
Probably needs this time put into an expansion which will fix all the gameplay and world issues that are in this title.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I think an air biscuit would be more noticeable.
"One user pushed back on the rumour, sarcastically pointing out that the game has “been going to PS5 since 2024 according to you”
Was thinking the same thing.
I've said it before; way too late for me to care at this point, there is such a thing as waiting to long. They've taken far too long to release the game. IF it even comes, I highly doubt it.
@DonkeyFantasy one of my biggest gripes with the PS5. I remember modding Skyrim on the xbox and it was great. Hair mods, face and body mods etc and got it looking really really nice. The PS version always looked really sh't. I don't believe any restrictions were ever lifted to make it equal to the xbox mod wise.
I bet all 400 people who voted for the first option will quit after 2h. Couldn't care less about the uninhabited planet simulator 🤷
Really want to dive into it again, one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had. I’m glad though it got pushed to 2026, I just don’t have the time for such a humongous game right now.
Can't wait to play it again. Always makes me chuckle how this game invokes such anger in people, haha, and I guarantee many of them are just parroting what they have heard on reddit.
I wish this site would have a 'rumours' section, as tweets from somebody who keeps moving the goal posts are not 'news'
Wouldnt waste your time and money on it
@graymamba
"you’re seeing a lot of anticipation and excitement here… I must be looking in the wrong place!"
Going by the amount of articles on PushSquare concerning it's anticipated PS release, you must be.
I just want avowed
@Dimey No Man's Sky does it better... that's all I need to say.
Glad I didn’t throw my PS5 out a window in despair like people on PureXbox said I would!
@ElectricWizard articles don’t automatically mean excitement. The comments sections of all of those articles are full of apathy.
LOL idk why I was under the impression that this was already out for PS5 too.
Probably a reflection of how much Starfield bombed. Good thing is, hopefully, that Bethesda will have to update their dated design and a better Elder Scrolls will result of it.
Another year just gives No Man’s Sky more time to being a better space simulator than whatever Starfield is.
Keep it please
I played this on PC awhile back via Game Pass. Honestly if you primarily play on Playstation you guys arent missing much. Its not BAD per se its just kind of boring.
Never really played Starfield aside from the opening hour-or-so. I love Bethesda rpg's and to get me actually excited for this it also needs a PSVR 2 version. I played Skyrim VR to pieces for several years and Microsoft just recently announced Flight Simulator '24 for both PS5 and PSVR 2, so it's not entirely out-of-reach in that regard?
I can play it with mods on pc. The only people waiting for ps5 version are the console peasants
Save your money don't bother please trust me just don't bother
@ShadowRJ well since this was a subsidized Xbox gamepass day one, MS still wants to make some more money. And launching on PS will generate more revenue. So a win for MS’s suit types.
