@NerdyPaul You could argue those two massive acquisitions were specifically bought to feed gamepass with content. They stated before they wanted to release a game onto gamepass every three months.

So what's the total figure of Xbox lay offs and studio's let go/closed since gamepass began?

That's just insane, I can now see why people are shifting from Xbox. For me this is the after effect of gamepass.

Also with the 4 studio closures and 3200 job losses Xbox is a place you don't want to spend on.

@AdamNovice Exactly, this would 100% be one expensive PR move that their fans will be paying heavily for.

Makes no difference, the majority of gamers will still stick with Playstation, or neither as they will be priced out. Xbox have also done too much damage to themselves over the last two generations for anyone to care.

You have more chance of upset Playstation gamers going to PC or Nintendo instead. As Xbox will pose similar drawbacks as Playstation.

@ShadowRJ Well I've learnt something new today, never heard of that effect but after googling it you may be right. It's obvious why they don't want to post on Socials right now as they don't want people who are unaware of the situation seeing the comments and then they start an uproar too, continuing the chain. But at some point they will have to return.

@ShadowRJ Massive amount of lay offs, multiple studio closures and they also announce their next console is Digital only. I can see those all happening at some point this month.

I think Sony should just come back to the Socials but disable the comments.

@zebric21 Then it becomes the same as the steam machine, a PC pretending to be a console. PC has had no online paywall for years yet hundreds of millions of gamers stick with consoles with an online paywall. Xbox dropping that paywall isn't going to change as much as you think it will.

Whatever is happening with Playstation right now is also going to be happening with Xbox, but with looming Bloodbath it's going to worse over there. Once all the dust has settled PlayStation is still going to be the main place for console gamers going forward. But over the next 10 I think the amount of console gamers is going to shrink.

You're the one who originally said Playstation is not a place to spend money, yet what any of us do with our money is also entirely up to us.

There's four reasons to want physical to stay around.

1, cheaper than digital.
2, can be rented or lent to a friend.
3, can be re sold once complete.
4, for physical collectors who like collecting games.

For me personally 1-3 were main factors why I mainly purchased physical copies. I can't afford to buy every game I want brand new and to keep them. So re selling on ebay is very important for me and so is renting as I like to rent some games that aren't very long like the recent Star Fox game.

But, I'm not about to abandon gaming just because physical is going away. I'm just going to have to be more cautious with what games I buy day one and which ones i will wait for a sale for or even wait for them to drop into playstation plus. It just means I will spend less on games overall and I don't doubt millions will be the same, I think day one sales for games will be down and without a second hand market people on a budget will second think even getting a PS6.

I'm hoping retailers selling digital games will offer the games at a similar price to what physical would be which is around £10-£15 les than on the PlayStation store.

@CheesyOatcake I honestly believe there's a social media and online hate campaign towards Playstation, you see droves of Xbox and PC players fanning the flames on playstation articles and on twitter/X you see Xbox influencers post more Playstation related articles than Xbox ones. People turn a blind eye towards Xbox and PC, when Xbox close studios it's because they were bloated and it's for the best, when Xbox go full digital it will be "it makes sense", PC go full digital no one said a word, when PC includes DRM it isn't an issue, when Xbox make a live service game it's not an issue.

Anyway you get the point lol, no matter who does what in the gaming industry it's only a major issue when Sony does it. Sony have a massive red target on their back and have done for the last 5-6 years.

Would love to know why, I wonder if this would be different If Sony were an American company, and main audience wasn't Europe.

Just reading through some of the X posts and it's hilarious that none of them have read into this properly. They are all American and haven't noticed this is an EU issue only and even when pointed out it's an EU issue the guy replies he's originally from the UK and will go back there one day.

@drpepperdude100 Did you ever log into the PlayStation App during that time? Or play a Sony game on Xbox or PC such as HellDivers 2 or MLB? As long as you sign into a playstation account it shouldn't matter where you do it.

@Northern_munkey Yeah it's getting worse here, it used to be a place for quality playstation content but now it's a place that focuses more articles that will gain more clicks. It's either Playstation hate articles, Xbox related articles or PC related, now they are including tweets from Xbox influencers with 17k followers.

Also that Astal account is an Xbox influencer account so of course they post constant Sony hate. I'm actually quite disappointed you have stooped so low to even get get tweets from Xbox shills now.

I'm sorry but a lot of companies do this, gifgaff message me multiple times a year saying If I don't use my Sim (second Sim) in 30 days I lose my number. If you're not using your playstation for 3 and half years then I would assume you don't care anyway?

Something so simple to avoid, just by using the mobile app to sign in. Just another thing people are now nitpicking over to join in on the hate bandwagon this week.

Also how long has this clause been in place? If its years then that just says it all.

@GigaGaia My concern with that is the shape, it's designed to fit the PlayStation 5 and look natural. So for this to be compatible with the PS6 then it would need to be designed like a PS5, which has 0% chance of happening.

The Adventures of Elliot for me, great game.

Just Echoes of Aincrad for me, loved the demo and have the game pre ordered from the store ready.

I will be focussing on The Adventures of Elliot and Etrange Overlord.

Pretty sure the games they recieve to review are digital copies (if not then I'm curious how reviews will play out in 18 months), and I know Sammy spends a lot of time playing gacha games which are also digital only.

I would like to see some feature pieces of their personal opinions and how it actually impacts them.

@ShadowRJ So PC got let off because consoles existed? Well Nintendo exists so if people want physical they still can by getting a Switch 2/3. Sony dropping physical means there's two other huge gaming corporations that are currently still supporting physical.

But, I still disagree PC gets a free pass, especially when PC gaming dwarfs Console gaming for users. There's like a billion PC players, infact since PC went digital only every year there's been more and more gamers on PC. What does that tell you?

Where was this uproar over PC dropping physical or the release of the digital only PS5 and Xbox Series, or any game purchases on mobile phones? Why is going digital only all of a sudden bad when Sony do it.

Is digital only fine when it depends on the company doing it? If there's a push back on this then these governments should also crack down on PC and force the return of physical PC games.

The lack of physical I can deal with but it's the price that concerns me. If it's over £1000 then I'm sticking with my PS5 and Switch 2 combo for many years until the price drops or they bring out a cheaper model.

If they make an handheld to go alongside the main console and that's cheaper then I may just get that instead.

But Dead on Arrival? Absolutely no chance.

@Mr-Cage I still have the collection installed on my Steam Deck so I will get round to completing the collection at some point.

@Mr-Cage I searched the chronological order so I started with Reach and I've played half of Combat Evolved. I also tried Halo Infinite when I briefly had a series S just couldn't get into it.

I gave the master chief collection a try and was severely underwhelmed, so I wouldn't mind if this went back to being an xbox exclusive.

@jackst The CMA and Government cannot stop Sony from scrapping physical games. The pricing monopoly is something they could get involved in and I believe Sony are already being sued over it hence why they announced they will be allowing retailers to sell digital copies of playstation games, so technically that has been resolved.

@AI-Generation As an all digital gamer, in your experience how long does it take for a new AAA gamevto go on sale after release? I'm starting to go all digital from next week starting with Echoes of Aincrad and there's a few games in September I will be looking to get as well but I don't want to be paying the full price for all of them.

If you ignore the obvious Xbox and PC trolls then you have a similar amount of genuine backlash as they did when closing Bluepoint, which kinda died down after a week. So I think after people have calmed down and took in the news then more will be accepting of a digital future, especially once they realise it's either the same elsewhere, or is going to be. The same happened with Nintendo when they found out about GKC's, it's now more widely accepted with a few here and there still holding a grudge. But for the bigger picture, it had little to no impact on Switch 2 console or game sales.

I think Sony could still offer something to ease those in genuine uproar over this though, like a disk to digital feature for older games or a GKC alternative.

@trev666 That's only good if you're a physical collector with a massive collection, it's basically a way for you to still play your older games which is great and something Playstation should do to. But it doesn't change the fact that new releases still won't be releasing on disk.

I can't see this decision being reversed, it's just something we either have to accept or just stop gaming altogether as the alternatives ain't no better.

May as well start up my digital collection starting with Echoes of Aincrad next week, atleast il have more games to stream on my Portal 😅.

Do they have no desire to develop for PC then?
