@SMJ Well how many of Sony's players are actually loyal fans though? Yeah on here there's going to be a lot but in general most PS5 owners are just casuals. So if there's no dedicated console hardware then they will just choose a PC they can afford and buy games from whatever storefront is the cheapest, plus free online. Even I have to admit that if PC was the only choice to play games on TV then I probably would not be buying any multiplayer games or third party games using Playstations store, I would use steam, and only use the Playstation store for Sony exclusives.
From a consumer standpoint yeah an open platform with free online would be great, but from a business standpoint Sony will want a closed platform with online services coming at a cost. Ultimately I think nothing will changes until Sony start losing millions of players and are forced to change. Even then it will come at a cost such as game price increases etc.
@SMJ If Playstation did what you're saying then what would happen to playstation plus? A big chunk of Sony's revenue is tied to people subscribing to play online and get free monthly games.
Also right now Sony take a 30% cut on all third party games sold, they make billions off fortnite and call of duty alone, not having their own platform and becoming third party would be a silly move. If Playstation was just a store front on PC then people would just buy from wherever is cheapest (most likely steam), and lose billions in the process.
@EfYI Going for a revenge arc so I'm banishing them all and killing any living that I need to. I will go for the good ending on my second playthrough though.
On PS5 i will be finally completing Digimon Time Stranger, I've got the final boss to do but the game just gave me about 20 side quests to do 😔. I will also try a wrap up Borderlands 4 and start Edens Zero
On the Switch 2 I will be continuing with Metroid Prime 4, I put around 3 hours in last weekend but it didn't hook me in, hopefully it clicks with me this weekend. I will also be playing some Kirby Air Riders.
On Playstation Portal I will put another hour or two into Banishers Ghosts of New Eden, solid game so far.
And finally last week I bought me a Steam Deck Oled 1TB for £400, I've bought Sunset Overdrive for my first game so I'm looking forward to starting that today.
The difference is Stellar Blade has great visuals, interesting world/story and actual good gameplay. Whereas this game has none of the above and so had to sexualize the main character to make the game appealing, they are trying to polish a turd.
@Leinad7 Yet this Year Xbox will release yet another Forza, Halo, Gears and Call of Duty, if these games are popular then of course they are going to stick with them just like a Sony and Nintendo do with certain IP's, infact I can't remember the last time Nintendo brought out a brand new IP, Splatoon maybe? 10 years ago. But that doesn't matter because these games are still great and fun to play doesn't matter if the IP has been used many times as long as the games are well done.
And yes if the rumours are true then the next Xbox maybe be an open system but at what cost, £1000 plus is something casuals will not pay, especially after this shambles of a gen. Even the next Playstation will flop at those prices.
@graymamba I bet they have tears running down their faces whilst writing these comments 😂.
At the end of the day Microsoft are just giving more reasons for new console gamers not to choose Xbox.
They might be "making" money off playstation sales, but they are losing money by losing potential Xbox console buyers who would then spend even more money on their store and maybe subscribe to gamepass. In the long run it's hurting them financially.
@RPGamer1994 If you don't like Playstation or Xbox consoles or it's fans (clearly your a PC fanboy) then what are you doing here? A site for Playstation fans.
Playstation still has major competition from Nintendo, both are getting good third party exclusives. Though Playstation still has more due to the Switch 2 being less powerful but Nintnedo makes up for it by having more first/second party releases. One big advantage Sony has over Nintendo are the big casual games like GTA, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Arc Raiders etc.
Whereas Xbox bring no competition what so ever and haven't for the last few years, their first party exclusives are coming to Playstation and even their third party ones like Ninja Gaiden are coming to Playstation day one. So people saying Sony need Xbox to stay competitive are completely wrong, Microsoft were the first to raise game prices, subscription prices and hardware prices, then release a third party $1000 handheld. If anything you would think Microsoft were the ones on top and becoming complacent.
Square Enix tried to evolve Final Fantasy by slowly getting rid of traditional turn based combat with every entry since 10, so maybe Persona will go the same way and end up being an hack and slash 40 hour game instead of a 100 hour turn based game.
Although as a warning to Atlus, Final Fantasy changing it's successful formula has resulted in the last two entries performing the worst in the series sales wise.
Sony need some more teams to meet demand, people are expecting them to pump out 3-4 first party games per year and that's just not realistic with 14 studios especially when two of those are just solely for MLB and Gran Turismo, plus two others that haven't made a game yet. The money spent on Bunjie should have been split to acquire 3-4 decent developers.
I need to spend less time on Apex Legends and Wuthering Waves, I spent well over 400 hours on those two games last year and I just think how many single player games (especially from my backlog) I could have completed instead.
I also want to spend more time playing games that aren't Japanese made, so I want to play more western games (Started Banishers today) and more indies.
Finally I want to stop buying games that are on sale and then not playing them for months or years later, from now on I will only buy games that I'm going to play straight away.
For me the games I'm looking forward to the most are Trails Beyond the Horizon, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, Monster Hunter Stories 2, Pragmata, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, Fatal Frame 2, Decapolice and Fate/EXTRA Record.
Couldn't even make it through the first game so I know this would be just as bad, story was confusing as nothing made sense and the constant spamming two buttons to keep me from falling over got boring fast, then there's the tedious side deliveries on the map. I take it these things still exist in the sequel as well so I won't even bother forcing myself to deal with that just for story. Great if you like the games but it's just not for me. Might watch a story cutscene compilation on YouTube instead.
So far not a fan of Kojima's work since MGS, hopefully his next game has more interesting less tedious gameplay.
I have to go with Falcom, to be pumping out multiple quality games per year is quite an achievement for someone their size. Plus they don't use AI unlike the rest on this list.
Can't say I agree with Level 5 though, I mean they put out two games that were originally planned for 2023....
Well Expedition 33 took inspiration from other games so let's not pretend Expedition 33 invented the genre and it's mechanics with every turn based game that comes after.
@Oram77 If games with performance issues got excluded then most games wouldn't make the cut, even E33 had some issues on PC, even Silent Hill F which you hold in high regard has performance issues on PS5.
I don't get the hate for Silent Hill F, it's rated 86 on metacritic which is higher than the Alters and Sonic Racing which both made this years game of the year list. For me it's one of the best Japanese horror games I've played.
@SleepyNick Imagine the uproar if Final Fantasy 7 Remake got nominated for game of the year in 2026 because it released on the Switch 2 and Series. Or if Playstation games got nominated again the year they had released on PC, or Elden Ring next year when it comes to Switch 2. It doesn't matter how good a game is it shouldn't be available for game of the year contention every time it launches on a new platform, otherwise Skyrim could have won dozens by now lol.
@MightyDemon82 Just looking through the settings and there are options to censor the nudity and bad language, I suppose that's how she's watching it on YouTube as YouTubers wouldn't be allowed to show that content apart from the swearing.

Re: 9 PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for January 2026 Announced
The premium offerings are a joke, if it wasn't for the Portal streaming then I would lower my sub down to Extra, which again seems like great value.
Re: PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for January 2026 Leaked
Been wanting to play the quiet place game, so I'm happy with this.
Re: PS3's Sly Cooper Team Shut in Oculus Layoffs, Two Other Devs Closed
So the end is in sight for VR once again, I very much doubt Sony will touch VR again as well.
Re: PS5 Reportedly Hands Forza Horizon 5 an Additional 5 Million Sales
@11001100110zero I meant as in if Sony allowed free online then they would recuperate the loss by increasing their game prices.

So basically Playstation will become Microsofts main platform going forward.
Re: Code Violet (PS5) - Gooner Shooter Can't Get It Up
