So they aren't charging more for the games, but instead offering discounts at different rates to different people? Are these people located in the same country? Or are some getting better discounts because they are ps plus members? Is it based on how long you've been a playstation member?
I've had my account for over 16 years now and been a playstation plus member the wile time so if I'm getting better discounts than someone who's only been a member for a year or two then that's just Sony rewarding loyal customers.
I think Sony need to put out a statement to clear this up and explain how this works otherwise the backlash is just going to get worse and more traction.
But its times like this why I'm glad I buy 90% of my games physical, and the other 10% are games in a sale.
Censorship won't be an issue, especially with games like Dispatch, TLOU 2 and Baldurs Gate going uncensored. If the characters are portrayed as adults then Sony won't care about censorship aslong as the game is correctly age rated.
Is the difficulty really an issue? I found Arc Raiders way more difficult than this. The bots can hit hard but they are supposed to, this isn't the kind of game you can just going running around guns blazing.
Well on paper it's a great idea and one that I support, but we all know the majority just aren't interested in the smaller games. We've seen it before back during the PS3 and PS4, loads of smaller games yet they all failed sales wise.
I think it would be less of a risk for Sony to just loan out their smaller IP's. Just like with Nintendo, a lot of their exclusives aren't made by studio's they own.
@orvisbean101 If consoles are costing £1000 then a lot of gamers will either not bothering upgrading, find a cheaper alternative to their hobby, or just build a PC for that price. One of the main reasons a lot of people prefer console gaming is it's price point compared to mid to high tier PC's. If they are costing the same then people will move to PC. For Xbox that's what they want anyway, but for Sony it would be suicide to make their console £1000.
@Oram77 Just conjecture on my part, but there's been rumours floating around for months now that the next Xbox is coming in at that price or more. Playstation 6 being quite a bit less powerful means it should be a few hundred less.
But I'm basing this off these rumour articles we keep getting so take it with a grain of salt.
For me i think Sony should release it the same year as the next Xbox. The majority of gamers don't care about specs as much as some like you to believe, all they will see is a £1000+ PC Xbox vs a £700 PS6 and I know what they will pick, especially the casuals.
Giving Xbox a year or two lead could allow them to claw back some of the market, whereas releasing the PS6 along side it would just be the final nail in the coffin. Just depends how generous Sony are feeling 😂.
But whatever Sony do I just hope it comes with a disk drive, either built on or as a separate addition. That would be another huge advantage if the next Xbox is all digital.
Asha said we would see the return of Xbox...as a PC. How exactly is this the return of Xbox? All they are doing is pushing their players into the Steam ecosystem. This is a middle finger to Xbox's loyal fans, their first party will stay multiplatform and this new PC box is mainly for attracting current low spec PC players just like with the Steam Machine.
Seems to me the Xbox crowd aren't happy with this, they know it's basically a PC and developers will just create PC versions of games without the usual console optimisation that console gamers prefer. It's the main reason console gamers prefer consoles over PC, the simple layout and the ease of use. If this is priced at £1000+ then I'm sorry but it's DOA and will be the worst selling Xbox "console" to date.
Even more so if the Steam Machine comes out first and is cheaper.
@Cherip-the-Ripper It's been OK so far (4 hours in), it's very linear with little to no exploration and is very souls like but it does have difficulty options. Puzzles have been basic so far and the story hasn't hooked me yet. Closest game I'd compare it to in terms of gameplay would be GoW 2018, the loop is pretty follow the set path, talk, fight, repeat.
RIP to the Xbox store then, who's going to be buying from Xbox if Steam is an option on the console? Kiss good bye to that 30% and this pretty much guarantees they will keep games on Playstation as they will need the revenue after this.
@Oram77 There's definitely going to be a remake/remaster at some point as Nintendo like to fill the gaps between the big main Zeldas with older re-done titles.
But, you definitely won't be seeing it on Playstation so let that dream die now lol. You can always buy a Switch 2 (or whatever it releases on) though.
@PuppetMaster Wait until GTA 6 releases, those PC players will be flocking to playstation. PS5 sales are going to go through the roof and also bring more potential buyers for Sony's exclusives.
@KundaliniRising333 They lost two sales from me with that decision
You make me laugh, you've been banging on about how crap Yotei was last year and how all these games from Sony are just samey rubbish. You were never going to buy these games anyway 😂.
@Max_the_German Or none of those as Sony recuperates the small loss of revenue by selling more consoles and continue releasing live service games on PC, which at the moment makes up the majority of PC revenue for them. That 2% PC revenue mainly consists of Destiny 2 and HellDivers 2 sales and microtransactions. These types of games will be staying on PC, so Sony not releasing years old single player games on Steam is not going to cause the problems you've listed.
@TheArt Tbf this isn't impacting Xbox right now, there's no way to play these games on Xbox and it's only rumours that the next Xbox is going to have the steam store. This is more a counter measure to the new steam console. Sony want console gamers to only play their exclusives on the big screen using their console.
If Xbox are upset over this then surely they must also be annoyed that Nintendo doesn't put their games on PC, and so they won't put games on the Switch 2 either.
If you're a playstation fan/player and own a PS5 then I don't see how you could moan about this as it has no negative impact on you. The only ones moaning should be PC and Xbox fans who will now miss out on Sony's biggest games.
For me this makes sense, Sony are doubling down on their main brand and making their platform more lucrative.
Telling customers if you want to play our games you don't need a playstation hits different to telling potential buyers if you want to play our games then you need a playstation. That right there creates a USP and a very powerful one in the gaming industry, I mean just ask Nintendo.
This is great news, this will strengthen the PlayStation brand. I mean just look at Xbox who went all out down the PC route and now look at them. So anything to avoid becoming like Xbox is a win in my book.
I'd prefer Sony to follow in Nintendo's footsteps who's closed platform has done them wonders.
Great stuff, looking forward to see what Team Asobi have for us next. I'd be happy with more Astro Bot but I'm hoping for an Ape Escape return which I think they would be perfect for.
It's a server slam where progression doesn't carry over, so why would most people continue playing every day if they know nothing carries over when the full game releases in a weeks time. So of course the player count is going to decrease as the weekend goes on.
Also looking at other online games there's always a big drop in players during the same time period every day, so using that lowest drop figure for an argument is quite amusing.
@Max_the_German I wouldn't call 20+ million sales a frustrating problem for SIE, especially with those games you mentioned. Forza being on three platforms still hasn't sold as many as God of War did just on playstation.
Well so now we know why there was never a Bloodbourne Remake, because Sony valued their partnership with From software and didn't want to p**s off the original creator. Now can we move on.....
@Northern_munkey Just read the in game email about the server slam, you just get rewards for reaching certain levels in the server slam (10 and 30) but any progress does not carry over.
From their FAQ,
Progress will not carry over to Marathon’s launch, but there will be tiered rewards based on your Server Slam progress that will be credited on launch via an in-game mailbox.
Its my own fault for not reading it properly to begin with but if I had known I would have played a few less matches than I did lol.
Imagine remaking a game 5 years after it's original release, that to me is absurd and would have gone down just as (not) well as the TLOU remake, surely?
@Artois2 Yeah that's the problem with it being a free play test, means anyone can just downlaod it and give it a rating without playing it. The length some saddos go to is embarrassing.

Re: PS6 Rival Xbox Helix Could Cost as Much as $1,200
So DOA then, or at most it will be the most niche main console there's ever been.
Re: 'I'm Pro Sex Minigames': Former God of War Dev Backs PS5 Trilogy Remake to Keep Controversial Minigames

Pretty obvious who those in that 22% are, I can see most of them still crying in this comment section.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 623
On PS5 i will be playing Echoes of the End, Okami HD, Inazuma Eleven and jump into some Marathon in between.
On Switch 2 I will be mainly focussing on Pokopia, but I also want to finish Resident Evil Requiem and Mario Tennis Fever this weekend.
Re: Marathon PS5 User Reviews Remarkably Positive After String of Live Service Disasters
91% very positive rating on steam, looks like those that are playing it are really enjoying it.
That rating will help persuade potential buyers going forward so hopefully this game should have legs.
Re: PS5 Players Can Finally Explore This Award-Winning Xbox Gem
Judging by the comments this seems like a wait for a sale game. Might pick it up when it's around £20.

@AhmadSumadi Exactly, don't matter how they cut it, it's just a PC with multiple store fronts. You may aswell just link your desktop up to your TV.

It's the top selling game on steam right now, so I'd say this game is going to be just fine.
Sorry haters....

Il be jumping in over the weekend, too busy with Pokopia, RE Requiem and Echoes of the End for now.
Re: Poll: Vote for Your PS5 Game of the Month (February 2026)
First of all, what a month. Don't think I've seen a February that stacked for great games before.
My vote is going towards Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, such a charming and great game and a contender for best RPG of the year already.
