I've got to say, if people still haven't played them for some reason, those prices on the Bioshock and Arkham collections are pretty great deals. Although at this point, if you have a PS3 then there is really no excuse for not having played those games!
Might go for Ys or Stein's Gate Vita, but outside of those there's not a lot I'm interested in here that I can't already get cheaper from online retailers.
What really frustrates me here is that I'm not really interested in getting this on PS4, as I don't have the time for it, but would really like to play the Vita version. HOWEVER, for some reason the updated PS4 version costs half the price of the Vita version, which is still over £30!
@DualWielding I think there's two angles to it. Back in the PS2 days of games like .hack it was a way to replicate the MMO experience for people who wanted to play something like that but didn't have the means.
Outside of that, it's just a narrative tool to tell a certain type of story. No different really to any other stories that focus on someone being sucked into a world other than their own, and then having to fight to get back to their own world.
It would help if there was a more clear definition of the question. I mean, I have quite a few photos on my HD from snapping them with the Share button, but as far as I'm aware I've never broadcast those snaps anywhere beyond my console. Does that count? Or is it only stuff that's been put out for the public to see?
There are stats out there re number of share button presses, but these are from a year ago, and even at that time don't give any idea of the split between photos and videos, and how many actually made their way online. Oh well, looks like I'll be winging it with a semi-educated guess!
Haha sounds truly horrific, congrats on surviving the first review @ohnoitsjade, and welcome Hopefully they give you something slightly better for the next one!
While I tend to agree that I'm not overly fussed by any of these, out of the 3 only Grow Home has piqued my interest (I like the art style, and it's refreshing to see an indie that isn't 2D!) so that's where my vote is going
Now you mention the messaging it's reminded me to ask - how on earth do you leave a conversation? I'm sure it's just me being dense here, but several times now I've been added to a massive conversation, and get loads of notifications. When I view it I can see loads of messages informing that various people have left the conversation, but I haven't been able to figure out for the life of me how to do so myself! :S
Definitely going to attempt to research the tie breaker before submitting my entry!
I hate tie-breakers like this, I'd much rather they just ran with the good old-fashioned simple questions followed by pulling a name out of a hat as a decider.
EDIT: I just read through the prize list & the T&Cs. You need to have it all delivered to the address you register with if you win - I'd be stuffed as all that lot physically wouldn't fit in my little 1 bed flat!
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya oh fair enough, yeah it's not so obvious in the mobile view! Quite a lot of good discussion takes place on the forums, you should check them out more often. If you hit the top-left menu button on the site, then Forums, then All Topics, you can see all the recently commented on discussions
And yeah I do see what you mean there. Maybe something to consider for next time! Could even run most of the tournament by genre, and then finish off with the winners from each genre being entered into the final round. Could be something to consider @themcnoisy?
Heck, if there were more people willing to help out with the running of it (as not really fair to lump it all on one person if it gets much bigger), it could be made into a full PS Readers Awards feature, with categories for other stuff too, like best Soundtrack of all time, most influential game (as per @SavoirFaire's suggestion) etc etc
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya all games that were in the competition at some point I'm pretty sure, just didn't quite make the final cut!
I'm personally really looking forward to the next time round of this, where hopefully a few more people would take part. I think it could have been a very different result if more of the community has gotten involved!
@themcnoisy not sure how/if you tracked the stats to this level of detail, but it would be really interesting to see how many people in total took part!
I'm surprised how many people have said they weren't aware this was running. It's been in the recent forum discussions section at the side of the main page pretty much constantly the last few months! I only joined in the later stages but that was more out of forgetfulness / laziness!
@Cleric20 @arnoldlayne83 how are you finding The Witcher 3 post patch? I've already outlined in detail what's happening on the article about the patch, so I won't do a major double post here, but I'm interested to see how people get on as personally I've found performance has taken a major hit!
Not sure what anyone else's experience has been, but so far from an hour's play this morning I'd say performance is really suffering. I'm having loads of issues I never had before. I've just finished off Return to Crookback Bog (forgot I still had that to do before Novigrad), and have had the following issues. Objects (fences, scenery, anything really) flickering even in tiny quiet villages. Major framerate issues where there's a lot of action. Some slowdown in cutscenes. Roach galloping on the spot indefinitely even though I wasn't pressing anything. Texture pop-in during cutscenes - the Baron's daughter just had her hair appear halfway through a scene. Oh, and at one point when I dismounted in the middle of a village Geralt briefly attempted to swim in the air...
Really not impressed, seeing as all of this has been happening in less busy locations, and i never had a single one of these issues prior to this patch :/
Edit: weirdly, I had no issues at all once I got to Novigrad, which I gather is the opposite of what people were experiencing previously!
@RawShark I had the same thing happening in the mission where Keira is closing the ice portals. Much easier there to protect her mind you, but still took me by surprise the first time she got OHKO'd!
I gather that wasn't actually an issue right off the bat, and the guest characters used to take a few hits (some say even on Death March), but something in one of the updates must have caused the problem.
@get2sammyb oh I totally agree, the fact that the situation was ever allowed to get to this stage is just unbelievable, I just can't fathom what has been going on in their minds for most of this 10 year period. But, now that they're where they are, I think they absolutely need to pull out all the stops they can to make the game amazing, anything less and they will be torn to shreds on release.
Just from the stills I'd say there's a pretty big step up in sharpness, texture detail etc. Oh, and there's more plants on the PS4! But yeah a friend told me that GZ on PS3 runs terribly when compared against the PS4 version.
Either way, it's just over 3 WEEKS AWAY NOW! My hype for this game is beginning to skyrocket now that we're this close...
On the other hand, it's already looking like it's going to release over 10 years after the original announcement. Once you get to that stage you have to figure what's another year if it allows it to reach it's full potential?
While it's annoying as hell, and is definitely still an absolute joke, I can see why at this stage they won't be shy about delaying it more if it makes the game better. What's worse, releasing a game after 10 years of dev and it being "meh", or delaying it 1 extra year and it ending up a great game?
Awesome, hopefully this will be installed when I get home! I haven't noticed any technical issues at all so far (other than a ghoul nest that refuses to appear in the starting area). That said, I've not actually been to Novigrad yet, where I gather most of the issues were.
That's my next stop though as I just finished the Baron/Witch quests - looking forward to seeing the big city (although not as much as I am to getting to Skellige)!
I agree with the comment on art direction. I like the general idea behind the game, and I'm sure it probably is fun, but from what I've seen in the trailers the look of a lot of the characters just really doesn't do the source material justice, and it's a big thing that's put me off the game :/
I just don't see this being anything but terrible! Still, once the price comes down I reckon it'll be perfect for gaming sessions with a bunch of mates and a load of beer
Man I'm getting excited now. As long as skipping the side content doesn't affect your ending, I won't mind. Me and my pal have agreed we're going to blitz the main story first so we can avoid any sort of spoilers, then go back to the start to go all completionist!
Looks a little like Civilisation meets Kessen. Doubt I'll pick this up, as the Civ side of gaming never really appealed to me, but I must admit I did love the Kessen games on PS2, so I might still investigate at some point if the price is right!
@dellyrascal my argument would be that anybody who has sunk countless hours into this game should have done so because they enjoy playing the game, and so yeah it might not be as hard for newer players to get to that point, but that still doesn't take away from the fun they have had getting there, or impact them in any way.
Otherwise, if someone is going to genuinely complain about this, I can only assume it would be because they played for 100 hours waiting for some rare drop, but didn't enjoy that time at all. In which case they are mental, and have only themselves to blame.
@WanderingBullet The only suitable actor to play Nate Drake is Nathan Fillion, approximately 10 years ago. I remember reading a couple years back that whoever was supposedly directing it at one point was considering Fillion for the role, but then a new guy was brought in who'd never heard of him.
While we're on the subject of things that are never going to see the light of day and Nathan Fillion, BRING BACK FIREFLY.
Oh yeah, and another personal favourite moment - the point at which they tell us excitedly that they now have a concrete plan in place for the lead up to release, including the announcement, and the announcement of the announcement. So now companies are expecting us to get hyped about the hypothetical announcement of an announcement. What the hell SE?
The fact it's taken them 10 years to get to 65%, and that even at this stage none of them seem to have any clue if they even have the budget to include half of what they want to, all suggests to me that we've still got at least another 3-5 years before this actually sees a release.
Also am I the only one who thinks that graphically it shows how long it's been in development, and that it's already looking a bit sub par by the standards new releases are currently setting?
Honestly thought that live stream was appalling, after all that hype. 20 minutes of discussing the trailer we've already seen, 5 minutes of a guy reading something that was already available online with some pretty pictures behind it, half an hour of unanswered questions, and some paltry "gameplay" footage, that didn't really even show them doing much actual playing (as in, yes it was gameplay, but mostly nothing was happening).
@Anchorsam_9 how so? I mean, you can't complain about the story as it was effectively a gameplay demo for Phantom Pain, and the gameplay was decent, and fairly consistent with what has come before!
@WanderingBullet I'm with you there, personally I found the planes a nightmare to fly as well. Haven't played 4 or Hardline, so not sure if they ended up sorting this out.
@Matroska even with 451 years worth of sneezing happening every single day, that would only add up to 164,615 years of combined sneezing for every calendar year.
In just under 11 months, Destiny has racked up 228,310 years of combined play time. No matter how you try and look at it, there is simply no trivialising the fact that it is an absolutely insane statistic!
If you average it out, 691.85 years of Destiny have been played PER DAY since release. That right there is mental.
Oh man this has the potential to be SO GOOD. They would have to have it cover season 2 plot as well though, as season 1 doesn't really cover a lot of ground in the grand scheme of things.
I think I platinumed FO3 in about 60 hours, but the sheer beauty of it was that even though I had the plat, I reckon I'd still only seen a fraction of what there was to see in the game. I do agree that the size is a double-edged sword though. Putting hundreds of hours into a console release now would mean seriously cutting myself off from loads of other awesome experiences!
@WanderingBullet I reckon SE have put an absolute tonne into FFXV so far. Think about it, MGSV has at least had a fairly consistent vision throughout its' life span (in the public eye at least). FFXV on the other hand has seemingly gone through redesign after redesign, and that sort of thing has got to be quite costly (especially with the latest rumors being that all of the initially shown stuff in the city from years ago has potentially been cut).
Thing is, I think SE have probably got a steadier stream of income than Konami at the moment, especially with big games like FFXIV really bringing home the bacon, so they know they can afford to take the hit during development if it pays off in the long run.
Although I'd be lying to say I'm not disappointed, this isn't the end of the world for me. Still getting this day 1, but with a week off work I imagine me and my mates will be done with the story within a few days. Oh well, just gives me more time after that to try and finish the Witcher!
@themcnoisy I assume you're referring to the fact that they left half of the useful information out of the guide, forcing people who had already bought the guide to then go online to find said info at specified web addresses. Total rip haha! The funny thing is that now those servers have been taken down, so it is an absolute nightmare trying to find copies of the missing info! Still a nice little guide though, although out of all of them I'd say it's the one that's been made most obsolete by the internet.
And @ShogunRok nobody will judge you for Discworld. I still refuse to accept that there is anybody who actually completed that game without any help whatsoever!
I will be absolutely gutted if we don't get a release date, but at this point I'm really not expecting all that much. Prove me wrong SE, prove me wrong...
I distinctly remember them saying this would happen if the X/X-2 collection was successful, so this is good, albeit unsurprising news. Will only get it if it puts an appearance in on Vita though tbh.
And @rjejr the mountain and that wedding cutscene are also both from X haha.
Same as last weekend for me, Persona 4 and the Witcher 3, for an rpg behemoth double-whammy! This is likely to remain the same for me throughout all of August, except maybe for the last weekend when I'll spend half an hour redoing Ground Zeroes to prepare me for 5. May also replay MGS3 (although don't have time for PW).
Looks pretty interesting, although I'm guessing the visuals will be a lot worse on the Vita. Localisation really depends on how well Cyber Sleuth does over here I reckon - here's hoping it's a hit!
I see the combat system here ending up somewhere between Crisis Core and FFXV. I think the real problem SE will face is that so much has changed in gaming since FF7, that we need to expect that it is going to be vastly different to that game, and will really need to be taken as a new game in it's own right, appreciated on it's own merits. Unfortunately, that is unlikely to happen, and I can see a large amount of people getting incredibly worked up because it wasn't exactly the same as the original but with pretty graphics.
At the end of the day, I'm not going to get myself all upset if the end product doesn't measure up, because at the end of the day we will still always have the original, which as far as I'm concerned is as good today as it was then and nothing will take that away
@Gemuarto Umm, I'm not sure you could really shoehorn in "realistic" physics in a game centered around rocket powered cars playing football... I mean, that right there is about as daft and arcadey a concept as it gets, there's not really any scope for realism there haha!

Re: Fallout 4 Will Take You Over 400 Hours to Fully Finish
I think I platinumed FO3 in about 60 hours, but the sheer beauty of it was that even though I had the plat, I reckon I'd still only seen a fraction of what there was to see in the game. I do agree that the size is a double-edged sword though. Putting hundreds of hours into a console release now would mean seriously cutting myself off from loads of other awesome experiences!
Re: Nikkei Report Paints a Dark Picture of Konami
Re: You Won't Be Able to Take Metal Gear Solid V Online Until October
Although I'd be lying to say I'm not disappointed, this isn't the end of the world for me. Still getting this day 1, but with a week off work I imagine me and my mates will be done with the story within a few days. Oh well, just gives me more time after that to try and finish the Witcher!
Re: Soapbox: Why I Love Strategy Guides
@themcnoisy I assume you're referring to the fact that they left half of the useful information out of the guide, forcing people who had already bought the guide to then go online to find said info at specified web addresses. Total rip haha! The funny thing is that now those servers have been taken down, so it is an absolute nightmare trying to find copies of the missing info! Still a nice little guide though, although out of all of them I'd say it's the one that's been made most obsolete by the internet.
And @ShogunRok nobody will judge you for Discworld. I still refuse to accept that there is anybody who actually completed that game without any help whatsoever!
Re: Gamescom 2015: A New Dawn Beckons in Final Fantasy XV
I will be absolutely gutted if we don't get a release date, but at this point I'm really not expecting all that much. Prove me wrong SE, prove me wrong...
Re: Rumour: Is Final Fantasy XII Coming to the PS4 Next?
I distinctly remember them saying this would happen if the X/X-2 collection was successful, so this is good, albeit unsurprising news. Will only get it if it puts an appearance in on Vita though tbh.
And @rjejr the mountain and that wedding cutscene are also both from X haha.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 78
Re: Gravity Rush Testers Requested on Reddit
@Boerewors Urm, no. It's a perfectly innocent saying haha. http://oels.byu.edu/student/idioms/idioms/cat_got_cream.html
Re: Digimon World: Next Order Looks Set to Be Another Good Digimon Game for PS Vita
Looks pretty interesting, although I'm guessing the visuals will be a lot worse on the Vita. Localisation really depends on how well Cyber Sleuth does over here I reckon - here's hoping it's a hit!
Re: Turn-Based Battles Could Be Scrapped for PS4's Final Fantasy VII Remake
Re: Soapbox: Why Rocket League Is Perfect for Me
@Gemuarto Umm, I'm not sure you could really shoehorn in "realistic" physics in a game centered around rocket powered cars playing football... I mean, that right there is about as daft and arcadey a concept as it gets, there's not really any scope for realism there haha!
