Re: Feature: Meet the Man with 40,000 PlayStation Trophies

SteveButler2210

@get2sammyb Good point, but it's still not a bad indicator, and I reckon it's probably pretty accurate once you get to serious trophy hunter sort of levels, as they are more likely to have used the website. It would be nice if one day they could broker a deal with Sony to enable them to use the true stats from the PSN.

Re: Feature: Meet the Man with 40,000 PlayStation Trophies

SteveButler2210

Thought I'd have a look at the stats on psnprofiles, and wow...

1,255 games played
41,839 trophies
230 unearned trophies

Only 230 unearned!?! That is mental. Especially when I cross-reference it with mine where I then see 195 games played and 4,749 unearned trophies! One day (when I win the lottery and can quit my job) I will finally have the time to go back and finish what I've started!

Not that I'm unhappy with my count. I said at the start of the year I'd be pleased if I could break the top 50k worldwide by the end of the year, and I'm already there, currently sitting at 48,724 (having moved up about 40,000 places to get there). So yeah, I'm pretty pleased with that. Although there are a few people on here (@get2sammyb and @batman for starters) who blow that totally out of the water!

Re: Review: Until Dawn (PS4)

SteveButler2210

Wasn't sure at first but this sounds right up my street after all! The Witcher 3 and MGS V will keep me busy for ages, but given the frosty setting I'm thinking this might be one to add to the Christmas list!

Re: Feature: Meet the Man with 40,000 PlayStation Trophies

SteveButler2210

@Boerewors fair play man, I used to be the same a few years ago, but I'm with @get2sammyb on this I need my sleep way more now. Maybe it is just conditioning though! I reckon I could stay awake later if I was doing something that engaged me properly, but normally in the evenings we just end up sitting watching stuff on Netflix, and I find myself starting to drop off usually by about 11:30! :S

Re: Who Wants a New Final Fantasy XV Screenshot?

SteveButler2210

Cue another hour of non-stop talking that somehow amounts to absolutely zero new info on the game. Looking forward to another re-assurance that they will soon be able to reveal the date for the grand announcement of the exact point at which they might possibly (maybe this century) be ready to give us 2 of the 6 digits required to spell out the release date...

Re: Feature: Meet the Man with 40,000 PlayStation Trophies

SteveButler2210

I had always assumed that this profile was being shared by multiple people all playing pretty much around the clock. The fact that this guy manages it off of a few hours a day is insane! Although, I imagine his hours are long based on his job, so that coupled with 3-4 hours a day gaming must leave him with veeeeery little time for other things. Like eating, and sleeping...

Still, cool to hear from the man behind the monstrous trophy score!

Re: Round Up: Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain PS4 Reviews Take Top Marks

SteveButler2210

@banacheck No that's not what they're saying. When playing through the game on the regular difficulty, towards the end you are forced to replay earlier missions with difficulty modifiers turned on before you can unlock the final parts of the story. It's explained more clearly in one of the other reviews linked to above, but I can't remember which one (think it was Game Informer or Destructoid).

Sounds a bit of a pain to me, but to be honest everything else about the game sounds so good that I couldn't care less!

Re: Round Up: Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain PS4 Reviews Take Top Marks

SteveButler2210

@themcnoisy but for Kojima's last game in the series, it's understandable that people are expecting big things and will want it to be the best yet. That doesn't diminish the achievements of the previous games by any means, but everything can be improved upon. I think it makes sense for them to be mentioning it.

In an ideal world surely every new iteration in a series would be the best in series as the team making it would be constantly learning and improving. Doesn't mean the last games weren't great, just that the latest one is even better!

Either way, this has been the final straw for me. I am now as hyped as it's possible to be for this game! So glad I have the week off for it

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 81

SteveButler2210

I had hoped to get some time in on The Witcher, but after all the talk of Full Metal Alchemist with @themcnoisy I started learning some of the tunes from it on piano, and eventually just bit the bullet and started to re-watch it all. 100% re-affirming my love for the series!

Inbetween that, as I can't hog the tv all weekend, I have platinumed Super Explooding Zoo and started Dragon's Crown on Vita. Mostly enjoying it so far but I'm not totally sold on it yet, giving it a bit more time though as I'm not far in yet. And I've no doubt I'll probably play some Geometry Wars 3 at some point too, as I'm committed to at least completing the adventure mode (stuck on level 49, so close)!!

Re: PS Vita Prototype Looked a Lot Like the PSPgo

SteveButler2210

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi for their woeful marketing of the console, yes, but not for the console itself. There is still an absolute abundance of fantastic content for it, and I personally think it's significantly better than the 3DS (which I own but hardly gets a look in edgeways).

Ultimately, despite some daft choices on the memory side of things, it is still a great piece of kit, and I think the only thing that really held it back was the marketing. If it had been marketed better, I think people would have bought it in spite of its flaws. But sadly there are still a shocking amount of people around today who genuinely don't even know that it exists, and it's too late in the day for a revival now even if they did :/

Re: From Resident Evil Zero to Hero in New PS4 Gameplay

SteveButler2210

If only Silent Hill 2 and 3 had received the same loving treatment for their remasters as the RE series has. I've still not played SH2 due to the fact that I don't want to play the supposedly shoddy HD version. I will pick up a PS2 to play it at some point, but god knows when that will actually be!

Re: Sony Wants PS4 Firmware Update Beta Testers

SteveButler2210

@Cyber-BLP-- when talking about being paid for work you do fairly often see it spelt "paycheck" as well as "pay cheque", so it's a valid abbreviation.

Anyhoo, I'm inclined to agree with the general consensus here that I don't really want to take the risk of breaking anything. The only feature I'm really fussed about from the patch notes so far is the Community feature. The rest doesn't really bother me, in fact I'm quite surprised they're going to 3.00 with that feature set. If anything I'd say this patch is more of a 2.6/7.

Re: Volume's Getting a New, Harder Difficulty Setting

SteveButler2210

Nice idea adding it as a separate mode entirely, just as long as they make sure there is enough content for the new mode. Would've been cool if they could have added it to the main story as a new difficulty as well though, as that already contains loads of levels, but to be honest I trust Bithell to deliver. If I wasn't already sold on this game, I definitely am now!

Re: Feature: The Best PS4 Games of the Year So Far

SteveButler2210

@ShogunRok I'm starting to understand how you've managed to lose over 500 hours to it! Definitely GOTY so far for me hands down, even though I'm hardly anywhere in terms of actual progression. There's just never been a game world quite like it, the only other open world that has come even remotely close for me is Red Dead Redemption, and that is high praise!

Re: Tearaway Unfolded's PS4 Special Edition May Be the Most Adorable Thing Ever

SteveButler2210

@Carl-G I expect that to be a massive feature of the game based on what we've seen so far. The main draw of the Vita version was all the clever ways the game had you interact with it physically using the functions of the Vita, so don't expect the PS4 version to be any different!

As for the SE not coming to the UK, I live in Guildford so I might just camp outside the Media Molecule doors until they give me one to go away!

Re: How Does Resident Evil: Revelations 2 Look on PS Vita?

SteveButler2210

I really hope it performs better irl than in that video, because that really does look quite shoddy even for a handheld. I'd give anything for another Vita shooter that performs as well as KZ Mercs did, but with a half decent story!

EDIT: granted, I know the main focus of Resi isn't shooting, it's horror, but still.

Re: Round Up: Volume PS4 Reviews Turn It Up to 11

SteveButler2210

@adf86 That's a pain, I hadn't realised that. Just got myself psyched for this as well after reading all of the reviews!

The only thing that sounds frustrating is the flaws in the checkpointing system mentioned by Destructoid. While I can see the benefit of it for casual players just looking to beat the game, I think they should enforce an adjusted checkpointing system for players who want their time to appear on a leaderboard. Have death add a time penalty or something like that to stop players abusing it to reset the guards.

Re: Out This Week: Volume, Zombi, Resident Evil Revelations 2 Vita

SteveButler2210

If they stack up well compared to their console counterparts, I will likely grab Resi and Volume at some point, but I'll let the reviews come in first.

I'm actually really interested by The Bridge after reading about it on the PS Blog EU. The Escher influence is a cool idea and looks well done, so if the price is right I'm all on board for that!

Re: Review: Zombi (PS4)

SteveButler2210

This sounds much better than I was expecting actually. Missed a trick though by not making it possible to use the Vita to mimic the controller/second screen functionality of the Wii U!

Re: The Witcher 3's New Game Plus Is Out This Week on PS4

SteveButler2210

It'll be a looooooong time before I need to utilise this. I am, I think, about half way through the Novigrad story missions in Act 1, haven't been to Skellige or anything yet. And with MGSV out in 2 weeks, I can see myself not finishing the Witcher until the end of the year! Fallout 4, see you in 2017...

Re: Kingdom Hearts III to Boast Big Hero 6 Storyline

SteveButler2210

I think this sort of thing was always on the cards since the inclusion of Tron in KH2. I'm not exactly against it per se, but I do think the other crossovers fit more naturally with the more fantasy leanings of KH.

I've not seen Big Hero 6 yet, so can't comment on how well I think this in particular will fit. What I will say though, is that if they do what some people have predicted they will and throw a Star Wars crossover in there, I will not be impressed. I don't think that would work remotely well at all, and it would be nothing more than a ploy to bring in a bit more cash.

Re: Rumour: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End to Explore PS4 on 9th March

SteveButler2210

@FullbringIchigo definitely sounds like you've got a disc-related issue there, as I've never heard of that either! If it's the exact same spot each time it's got to be that. I remember when I was younger our copy of Nightfire got a scratch on it in such a place that it meant the game froze at the same point of the game every time without fail........during the first mission. I was gutted!

Re: The Witcher 3's PC Mods Could Come to PS4

SteveButler2210

To be fair I'm not really sure I see the point of bringing the PC Witcher 3 mods across though. Taking a look at what appears to be the main site for mods for the game, most of them seem to be aiming to improve graphics/performance, which are obviously specific to PC hardware.

Re: The Witcher 3's PC Mods Could Come to PS4

SteveButler2210

@xMEADx bit of an odd statement to make, why would you refuse to buy a game just because there is an option to use mods? That's all it is, an option, nothing more. Surely just buy the game and ignore the mod side of things? Otherwise you're going to end up missing out on all sorts of potentially great stuff!

@ShogunRok Yeah I'm inclined to agree, the mods would have to go through some sort of testing/approval process. Particularly as I assume they would be downloaded via the PS Store, which would presumably mean they would have to adhere to the standards for PS Store content.

Re: EGX 2015: Play Star Wars Battlefront for the First Time in the UK

SteveButler2210

I was considering heading to this - nearly made a forum post the other day to see if anyone else was going - but it really depends on finances. Going on holiday at the start of Oct and need to save myself some spending money out of next month's pay! Also it's a massive trek for me, nearly 3 hours travel each way on the trains :/

Re: EA Doesn't Think You'd Play a Star Wars Battlefront Single Player Campaign

SteveButler2210

@themcnoisy I'd say the comparison is void though. ME3 is a massive RPG which takes ages to complete and holds less appeal for casual gamers, so it's no surprise that a lot of people have started but not finished it. On the other hand, I reckon far more people would be inclined to finish a comparatively short FPS campaign. They're just too different to make them worth comparing I'd say.

Re: Story Is the Most Important Part of Final Fantasy XV, Says Director

SteveButler2210

@kyleforrester87 I have a lot of time for Tabata, he seems to be the catalyst that's finally pushing things forward with FFXV as the steps forward they've taken since he got involved have been pretty big. It's particularly impressive when you consider that this is not just his main FF series debut, but it's also his first time producing a home console game rather than portable.

For what it's worth, I think Nomura's problem was simply that he was being pulled in too many directions at once. Just look at all the games he's been involved in over the last 10 years, the man is an absolute machine - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetsuya_Nomura#Works. Tabata on the other hand isn't involved in all that much, which makes him a better fit for FFXV as it enables him to dedicate all his focus to it.

Re: Rainbow Skies and Rainbow Moon are Both Bringing RPG Goodness to PS4 Next Year

SteveButler2210

@Splat To be honest I quite frankly won't believe it until I see it. Especially when one of their "boasts" is that they can have a whole 4 people in any one conversation. Truly next gen!

I'll play it when it inevitably gets handed out on PS+, but unless it is getting stellar reviews across the board I don't see myself shelling out any money for it. I assume the stories aren't going to be linked? If it does turn out great, it would be crazy to cut off part of their audience by forcing them through the first one (although, judging by the story up to the point I quit, I expect one paragraph would probably suffice to sum up the plot of the entire game)!

Re: Rainbow Skies and Rainbow Moon are Both Bringing RPG Goodness to PS4 Next Year

SteveButler2210

@kyleforrester87 Similar thing for me, although I probably put an extra 10 in on top. Everything about the game was so incredibly slow paced, with no real sense of progression or achievement, and the story was one of the worst most unoriginal and poorly executed that I've seen.

I did think the accessible combat system was good, and liked the idea of a faster paced TRPG, but outside of that there wasn't really very much that I thought the game did well. I always found the high praise it gets rather odd!

Re: Review: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (PS4)

SteveButler2210

I loved this game when I played it on PS3. It was one of the first things I played after finally upgrading to an alright sized tv (42"), and the art direction while not boundary pushing is wonderful. And that ending...wow.

That said, I still don't think I'd buy it again. I can't imagine there's a huge difference between the 2 versions, and I've still got my PS3 if I decide to play it again on there!
