Mafia III has been officially announced. Developed by Hangar 13 and due out in 2016 on the PlayStation 4, you can catch the first trailer through here. The game casts you as mixed race mobster Lincoln Clay, who's out to get revenge on Italian gangsters in 1968 New Orleans. But while this is all interesting, how does it actually play?
Well, our friends at GameSpot have got a few precious seconds of gameplay footage available on their YouTube channel, which we've embedded below. We get a good look at some driving, shooting, and general exploration, which we assume is running on a PC but should be roughly representative of the PS4 experience.
It certainly looks steeped in atmosphere, the neon-lit streets of the American south being a particular highlight. As you'd expect, you'll also be able to explore the bayou, so this should create some visual variety; from the jazz soaked districts of the city to the marshland that surrounds it, there should be lots of things to see.
Are you looking forward to this new take on 2K Czech's underrated series, though? Watch the video and then let us know in the comments section below.

Late sixties early seventies, I can dig that. :shipit:
@Jazzer94 100% agree, if they get the feel of that era right they could make it a great open world to explore!
The more I read into this game, the more I'm interested in it. I haven't played the previous Mafia games, but I'm interested in this one. Doesn't seem like your stereotypical Italian gangster game.
This game looks and sounds awesome, never mind sleeping dogs or watchdogs crud, love the setting too.
1 question.
Does it have collectible Playboy's?
I picked up Mafia 2 really cheap in a sale. I hadn't played the previous Mafia so I didn't know what to expect, and seeing as it was dirt cheap, I wasn't expecting much. So it was nice to find that it was actually a really good game. It was one of the only games in that genre that I enjoyed so much I couldn't put it down until I had finished it. I've never even finished a GTA game, as I usually just mess around in the open world.
If I hadn't of seen Mafia 2 on sale at such a low price, I probably would have never tried it.
I am really looking forward to the next iteration and can't wait to see more. From what we saw in the trailer I thought the graphics looked really good and so to did the gameplay.
