Re: Sony Wants You to Pick Your Next PS4 PlayStation Plus Freebie

SteveButler2210

@Tasuki not likely, now they will just moan about not liking any of the games offered!

I don't really see the point in complaining. As someone who owns a PS3, PS4 and PS Vita, I am effectively getting 6 games each month for the princely sum of about 56p each. Even if some of it is rubbish, the overall value for money is still staggering.

Re: Sony Wants You to Pick Your Next PS4 PlayStation Plus Freebie

SteveButler2210

@Anchorsam_9 not so sure myself, the phrasing of the advert where they mention the winning game will be made available free "on release", makes it sound specific to new releases. As though perhaps they will decide on our existing release each month, while we get to choose the other title from a selection of incoming stuff. Dunno, maybe I'm just reading too much into their wording!

Re: Review: N++ (PS4)

SteveButler2210

I remember spending countless hours playing the original version of this on the school computers during lessons. Time well spent! Will wait for this to come on sale before I pick it up though, as that price is a bit steep for me.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 77

SteveButler2210

FINALLY playing The Witcher 3, and I am absolutely loving it, and I've only just even arrived in Velen! I can easily see this being one of my favourite games - the combat is great, the attention to detail is second to none, and it manages to keep things going at a decent pace, whilst maintaining good character building without ever having to spend 3 hours at a time chatting to people to get the most out of it (I'm looking at you Dragon Age).

I've not finished Dragon Age Inquisition yet, but I'm seriously thinking I'll end up trading that in, simply because I think I'm going to find it really difficult to go back to that after playing this!

Re: Talking Point: Should More AAA Titles Adopt a Service Approach?

SteveButler2210

One aspect of this that I can certainly get on board with, is that it could be used to lengthen the development cycle of subsequent entries in the series. If the bigger players did this, and gave us a full new game every 2-3 years instead of yearly, I think we could see a serious leap in the quality of new releases, as well as receiving fantastic support for existing stuff. I really can't see this customer focused model taking off on a wider basis though. Too many big publishers can't see past the money.

Re: Everyone Should Be Able to Download The Witcher 3's PS4 Patch 1.07 Now

SteveButler2210

@stevie85 Really? The only thing I've heard problems-wise is the DF guys report on frame rate, which from what I remember didn't actually mention much change in the PS4 version and was more talking about how the XB1 version had come down to the same levels as PS4. Everywhere else I've seen has been pretty happy that the patch changed things for the best for the most part.

I've not played it yet, so I won't notice either way haha!

Re: Store Update: 21st July 2015 (Europe)

SteveButler2210

Wow, there is some seriously disgustingly priced content this week! Deadpool for £50, and £74 for a SECOND season pass for DOA5. Wow...

To be fair, I'm pretty shocked by the Deadpool prices everywhere to be honest, as these seem to have shot up. Even CEX are asking £25 for it now, but I saw it on Amazon half a year or so ago selling for £16 new!

Re: This R2-D2 PS4 Laptop Is Bleeping Badass

SteveButler2210

The only problem with the playbooks is that they lack full portability as they still need to be plugged in. I fully appreciate why, but it would be cool if in the near future they made sufficient advances in battery technology to make this viable for say long flights/train journeys without plug sockets!

Re: Feature: What Does The Witcher 3 PS4 Patch 1.07 Do, And Is It an Improvement?

SteveButler2210

@ShogunRok Just thought I'd point out how truly impressive that 500hrs play time is! I did some quick maths, and that is over 20 days of play. Seeing as the game only released 62 days ago, that is mental! You have spent 1/3 of all your time since the game came out playing it, and seeing as you need to sleep and eat too, I'm amazed you've had much time for anything else full stop!

Re: Square Enix Is Bringing The Big Guns to Gamescom 2015, Including Final Fantasy XV

SteveButler2210

It would be great to see FFXV get a release date. I mean, obviously you'd have to add another 6-12 months on top of any given date to account for the inevitable delays, but at least we'd have an idea!

On the other hand, Episode Duscae and the refinements off the back of that were all targeted at improving the core gameplay elements. It's entirely possible (although unlikely) that the other key elements of the game (story, locations, cutscenes etc) are already much further down the line, and that was the last thing they had left to lock down.

Ah who am I kidding, we'll be lucky to get a 2016 release date!

Re: Tons of PS4 Releases Reduced on European PlayStation Store

SteveButler2210

@themcnoisy @Wesker I considered it, but ultimately the lack of local MP has put me off. I like Driveclub, but that is helped largely by it being absolutely gorgeous. But although I do enjoy it, it has sort of cemented my opinion that I won't be buying another driving game that doesn't have a local vs component.

Re: Journey's Got a Confirmed Release Date on PS4 and It's Cross-Buy

SteveButler2210

Really looking forward to this, it was already gorgeous at times, so I'm expecting it to be extra pretty on the new hardware (and I've had a tv upgrade since I last played it).

One thing that is a shame for me though, is that as much as I loved it, the main memory I have of my first playthrough was the moment when (I was living at home at the time), playing in a darkened room, totally absorbed, halfway through the surfing sequence, my mum came barging into the room wanting to talk about something, absolutely ruining the immersion!

Re: This Probably Isn't The Dragon Quest Announcement You Wanted

SteveButler2210

Meh. Nothing about Minecraft has ever really interested me. Give me a western release of the 3DS versions of DQ7/8 and I'll be happy...

Edit: this just prompted me to have a bit of a google, and it looks like it's actually happening. Finally!! Although seeing as it sounds like the PR crowd weren't too chuffed with Horii making the announcement, I'd assume they're still a long way off yet. Oh well, I've been wanting to go back and play VIII for years (I never got all that far back on PS2, but loved what I did play), and VII being released for the first time in the West is pretty big too. All we need now is some Vita versions!!

Re: Guide: What Is The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited Exactly?

SteveButler2210

I think the idea of making the actual story containing quests effectively single player instances is a really good one. While it can be awesome taking down the big bads with a team of mates, I found in the grouped story content in FFXIV that very rarely happened. More often than not you'd be paired with random strangers, who'd all played the missions before and were replaying for their dailies, which meant they would just skip all the cutscenes and leave you miles behind (if they didn't just kick you).

Grouped dungeons as you make your way through the game are all well and good, and definitely one of the most fun parts, but not so much if they force you to choose between seeing the story or actually playing the content!

Re: The Still Brilliant Final Fantasy IX Released 15 Years Ago Today

SteveButler2210

@kyleforrester87 Dead easy, Amazon and a few other book retailers tend to stock it, and it's dropped in price a little since I bought it (http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Sky-Fantasy-Slipcased-Edition/dp/1616551607). How big is the FF9 book? Sky is a massive 3 book collection covering the first 10 games. The book covering 4, 5 and 6 is the largest, and there's not as much in the 7, 8, 9, 10 book as that's when Amano took a bit of a step back from the lead artist role, but for just over £40 it's well worth adding to any collection!

I would like to add some of the more recent art to my collection though, and have been eyeing up the Realm Reborn artbook lately as some of the work on that is great.

Re: The Still Brilliant Final Fantasy IX Released 15 Years Ago Today

SteveButler2210

Funnily enough, I nearly started this up again on my Vita at the weekend, now I'm incredibly torn between my renewed effort to play through P4G (which I was just starting to get really into again), and my desire to go back and re-play this!

@kyleforrester87 NICE. My favorite pieces of FF concept art are still all the work done by Amano, particularly the early stuff. If you're at all a fan of his work you owe it to yourself to pick up Sky: The Art of Final Fantasy. I missed out on the original limited run, but I have the slipcase edition sitting in pride of place on top of my piano, and it is fantastic. Dawn is also nice as a smaller collection, but everything in it is in the Sky collection except for a couple of larger foldout pieces.

Re: Zero Escape 3 Flees to PS Vita in 2016

SteveButler2210

I've still not played VLR, as I'm waiting to finish off 999 first (I was playing it on my phone via an emulator before my screen broke, and I've not yet had the cash to repair it). However, I've really enjoyed what I played of 999 so far, so am looking forward to eventually getting round to it!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 74

SteveButler2210

Finished the FFX-2 plat this morning but apart from that it's all about Arkham Knight for me this weekend. Really enjoying it so far, and I still can't quite believe how fantastic it looks, especially when you're gliding around areas like China town!

@JesWood13 if you've not already, you really should play 3 before moving on to 4. I know it's not chronologically set between 2 and 4, but there are bits of 4 that will make a lot more sense if you've played 3 beforehand.

Re: Oh Look, It's a Nintendo PlayStation Console

SteveButler2210

Bit random, but I just remembered something a guy I know told me which I found interesting in a geeky way. He runs a small business trading in second hand games & consoles, and I took some old stuff across to him to sell, and he explained why the SNES cartridges only go yellow on one half. Apparently, the manufacturing of the two halves of the cartridges was actually contracted out to 2 entirely separate companies (presumably as it saved them money somehow)!

Re: Destiny's Writing Is 'Boring as S***' According to Arrested Development Actor David Cross

SteveButler2210

I can see the point people are making here about how it's not a game focused on its story, but the fact is that they made the decision to put a story in to the game. If you're going to do that, then it falls to you to make sure that the story is done well. Story modes should never be shoe-horned in to a game just because they can.

The fact that the main focus is elsewhere doesn't really sit well as an excuse anyway. In FFXIV the main focus is arguably the endgame content, dungeons, dailies etc, same as here, but they still managed to fit in a large and enjoyable story on top of everything else that is squeezed in there. Yes, I know, different style of game, but everybody's defense seems to be based around the MMO structure of Destiny so I'm just looking to other MMOs as an example. It's not even like Bungie have no experience of crafting games with a good story - they made Halo for crying out loud!

I know not everyone might agree, but as far as I'm concerned if you're going to put a story into your game, you should try to do it well or not at all. And if it turns out badly, you can't use "it's not the main focus" as an excuse, because at the end of the day you chose to put it in there, which clearly means you thought it was worth putting in.
