Re: Rumour: PS Portal Could Be About to Get Even More Compelling

Spedfrom

You would need PS Plus Premium for this feature and I see no need for me to pay the very large amount of money it costs. I prefer buying games I really want, rather than paying a premium to have a selection of games available to me that I might not even be interested in and making me feel like my backlog is even bigger than what it already is.

I'm happy with Essential, so my Portal will continue being used only for Remote Play.

Re: PS6 Manufacturing Scheduled to Get Underway in Early 2027

Spedfrom

I was hoping for 2028. 2027 is still too soon for me.

I got both the PS5 and the PS5 Pro at launch and the same thing for PS4 Pro. By the time these consoles released I felt that I got my money back from their predecessors, so I was ready for them.

However, the original PS4 I got 8 months post launch and I think I'll be doing the same the PS6, if not later than that. Perhaps after the upcoming games are released, particularly Naughty Dog's truly new game in years, I'll feel differently. But for now, 2027 just seems too early for a generation where Sony has failed in delivering tent-pole single player games in sufficient numbers like they have previously.

Re: Who Is Playing Wolverine in Insomniac's PS5 Game?

Spedfrom

Honestly, he seems a lot more Wolverine, in physique and in enthusiasm for the role, than Hugh Jackman ever did. I've also never been the biggest Jackman fan, so McIntyre stands out to me. Finally a Marvel-Insomniac game that I'm actually interested in!

Re: Interview: 'It's All About That Unfamiliar Feeling' - How Silent Hill F Puts You on Edge

Spedfrom

Getting this on a sale, out of a mild level of curiosity.

As a long time fan of Silent Hill, since the very first game even, but one that quit on the series after buying Origins and only came back with the remake for 2, this does not feel Silent Hill to me at all. Every time I watch a trailer it feels like I'm looking at a Fatal Frame look alike. And even for that series I have little to no interest.

I'm saving my money for the remake of the original game, which thankfully Bloober is already working on.

Re: Hideo Kojima's Next Game OD Looks Like PT Fully Realised

Spedfrom

Loved the trailer! And happy about once again being excited for a Kojima game. The Death Stranding series has been nothing but a huge disappointment for me personally.

Furthermore, as a PS5 Pro owner I'm not worried at all that I won't be able to play this. That Xbox exclusivity is probably not going to much else than timed for 6 to 12 months, particularly at a time when Xbox has essentially gone third party. When Gears of War has gone multi-platform and the rumours for Starfield and Halo to go the same way abound, you're only required to have a little patience until OD Knock is also released for PlayStation.

Re: PS5 Pro Users Starting to Feel a Little Shortchanged After Poor or Absent Support

Spedfrom

I'm very happy with my PS5 Pro and only I can say if it was worth it. To me it was and is worth it. And the simple way I can show my disapproval of low effort from developers and publishers is by not buying games made by those that don't put the effort to properly implement PSSR and use the Pro's features.

I have bought (and thoroughly enjoyed even, despite its issues with shimmering) the Silent Hill 2 remake, but will not be buying any other games that are known to be poorly optimised for the Pro. Voting with our wallets is always the best way to reward lazy implementations of features for a premium console. And I do not feel shortchanged at all just because a couple of developers that I can easily ignore have been disappointing in their support for the console and its features.

Other than the above, I've been enjoying playing all my other games with incredible performance and polish. Exactly what I paid its asking price for.

Re: Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined's PS5 Characters Are Based on Real-Life Models

Spedfrom

I actually love the look of this remake of DQ7! Like others have said, the graphic style is still recognisably Toriyama. I was instantly interested the moment the video came on and I didn't yet know what it was. I'm very likely to get it on release and seeing as it's a type of game that lends itself to a console such as the Switch 2, I'll probably buy it on there rather than for my PS5 Pro.

What I don't like at all is the subtitle for the game. Reimagined? Really? How bland can you get, naming an iconic entry in an iconic franchise "Reimagined". We go from DQ7 "Fragments of the Forgotten Past" to... Reimagined. Brain rot and marketing corporate heads coming together to kill creativity even in games' titles.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem Has Third-Person Camera for Those Who Found Resident Evil 7 Too Scary

Spedfrom

RE7 was scary because it was made to be a scary game. Not specifically because of the first person view. RE8 was first person as well and it was nowhere near as scary. I actually find it to be the worst in the series, worse even than RE6.

This is all a very stupid take on what makes a game scary, coming from a director that clearly wants to push their preference for first person. And it's making me go from hyped to "going to wait for a sale".

Re: BioShock Infinite Executive Returns to Rescue BioShock 4 from Dev Hell

Spedfrom

Bioshock is a stellar, once in a generation piece of media. Both sequels were disappointing in their own ways and I will not blindly buy a 4th game as I did the 2 sequels. Might not even buy it at all, seeing how things are going.

Whatever messy state Judas is in, I would much rather get that instead whenever it comes out.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem PS5 Turns Up the Intensity in New Trailer

Spedfrom

@LazyDaisy Facial animations and particularly lip syncing has been the most difficult type of animation to get right for years now. Decades even. Naughty Dog has indeed spoiled us with what is essentially incredibly good facial animations and the best lip sync tech at the moment, even if the latter itself is not yet perfect. And so other games using other graphical engines that aren't up to par will always feel a little disappointing.

I hope Capcom and other devs get up to speed with Naughty Dog's prowess in that department sooner rather than later, but as I've mentioned, lip sync has always been the hardest of animations to get right.

Re: Mafia: The Old Country (PS5) - Historical Crime Story Runs Out of Ammo

Spedfrom

As if a game that has solid but non-innovative gameplay that solidly gets you through the story, which is a major point of such a product, and gorgeous presentation, is a bad thing.

Not all games need to be pushing the medium forward. A good product that has a proven basis is still a good product. I have the game and I am enjoying it for what it is. A fascinating look into early 20th century Mafia, with an engrossing story and solid gameplay.

As a southern European, but not Italian, this game is giving me all the vibes from my childhood, due to similarity in places, sounds and people's attitudes. It's a work of art in that respect, in how it translates southern European sensitivities. But leave it to an anglo-saxon to completely miss the point.

It's giving Push Square being annoyed at having to purchase its own copy of the game and not understanding that some things are good for what and as they are.

Re: Site News: Where Is Our Mafia: The Old Country PS5 Review?

Spedfrom

This summary of TierraGamer's review is exactly what I expected from this game, and exactly what I wanted from it. And it aligns with what IGN said of the game. Both sites give it the same score and seem to have had similar expectations for the game that align with my own. So I feel my pre-order was justified. Will give the game a go later today.

"Mafia: The Old Country delivers a highly focused experience that remains entertaining throughout its duration thanks to its variations in gameplay and a truly immersive story. While there is no innovation in terms of combat and stealth, it remains a worthwhile Sicilian journey, especially considering its reduced price."

Re: A Quote from a Sony Exec Is Causing a Hubbub Among PS5 Fans Again

Spedfrom

The writing on the wall is very clear, but everyone is still either going too far with it, or in denial.

Microsoft is going full third party - they bought far, faaaar too much value in publishing business and their console isn't enough of a success to allow them to remain a contender in the console race. The only way to recoup their very large investments is to become a third party, as their console business is insignificant compared to that.

Sony is going partial third party, likely only for multiplayer games and games created with third party brand value added in, such as Lego Horizon. Meanwhile they'll keep the heavy single player hits exclusive, because that's their PlayStation premium crop that fans want, whereas multiplayer makes sense to go third party for income maximisation.

Re: Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Enhanced (PS5) - Cinematic Spectacle Offers Little Else

Spedfrom

I'm a fan of these types of games. It's true that often their gameplay is lacking, but they also often have incredible potential that is cut short by lack of funding or cancelled sequels. And they can be fun in their own way - sometimes the fun to be had is not in the gameplay, but in their themes or the sheer awe their story and/or presentation provides. The Order 1886 is another game that was a spectacle to behold and had a great setting, but would have needed a sequel to properly evolve its gameplay. It wasn't bad, but simply passable - however it would have been a sequel I definitely would have bought.

And really, we should have variety in the types of games that are offered up to the market. If it's not for you, don't buy it, move on. Others will have an interest. Sadly, the loud voices that rise up whenever they're not aimed at as a target audience by every single game that gets released, are just a bit too loud.

Re: Sony's Not Done Finding New Ways to Sell You The Last of Us

Spedfrom

And undoubtedly people will moan and whine about milking something when they are not obligated to purchase, view or use any of this.

A good old "mind your own f'ing business" should accompany these articles. Just to remind the devoid of common sense that whatever a company releases doesn't have to cater to them personally. We live in the age of the ego.

Re: Stop Killing Games Fights to Stop Publishers from Revoking Access to Full-Price Products

Spedfrom

I signed it a few days ago when I came across it on Reddit. It's essential that our rights as gaming consumers are protected, because they are not at the moment and publishers have the freedom to drop support and access for games that often release at full price.

Also, when buying digital games we are buying a license to access the game, not ownership of the game product itself, which is appalling. If physical games become protected, digital will be next.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Out Today in Phased Release

Spedfrom

I’ve noticed that my gameplay hours for games such as Dragon Age Veilguard and others are now correct after this latest update! In-game I had about 108 hours and on the PS5 game screen it showed 194 hours or so. Now they match. There must have been updates beyond what’s listed as patch notes.
