The Last of Us is one of Sony's most successful and popular series, so it's no wonder it's had so much focus over the years, but it's impressive just how many ways the company is finding to present it.

The latest is an upcoming script book, compiling the full scripts for The Last of Us 1, 2, and Left Behind in one big tome.
Simply named The Last of Us: Part I and Part II Scripts, it's a collaboration between Naughty Dog and Dark Horse Books.
The book itself totals 618 pages and will be available in hardcover, featuring a foreword by Joel voice actor Troy Baker.
"These scripts, written during the games’ development, were meant to guide our team as we brought that world to life," says Naughty Dog head honcho Neil Druckmann. "They were never intended for public view — until now. For the first time, we’re sharing them with you — hoping this rare glimpse brings you even closer to the heart of Joel, Ellie, Abby, and the world they inhabit."
The script book will launch in mid-December, with pre-orders available now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other book and comic shops. It'll cost $69.99.
With the HBO show taking its popularity to new heights, we've seen a game bundle and even a new chronological mode for the sequel released recently. This script book is one more way to engage with the franchise, and we expect it'll go down well with fans.

Can’t wait for “Ellie Attorney: A the Last of Us Visual Novel”
They just taking the piss now
Haha, headline made me laugh.
This is a pretty cool little thing, though. Not for me, but awesome they're releasing this.

Next are a LEGO Creator "Infected Head" set, a The Last of Us Survivor's cook book and fashion collection. 😄
God forbid Sony do merch....
"You'll never see the last of us."
~ The Last of Us
This is pure bait. I'll grab the popcorn.
To give Sony more ideas, what about a PSVR2 adaptation of the last of us ? I am pretty sure that there is a non-negligible market for that (depending on the price of course).
They figured out that certain breeds of fans will fork over money for anything.
A behind the scenes book would've been awesome to have, probably super interesting to just get official info like that, at least to an extent that's possible for a studio like naughty dog.
But this? Feels like a cash grab, honestly. I can't wait for Intergalactic, and for ND to maybe, finally move past TLOU
@gaston That cinematic between Abby and Owen on the boat would be... interesting... in VR.
I'll say only one thing. I've bought PS3 TLoU 1 game, still didn't play it and with all that humbuck around it I don't care that series anymore. So... do whatever you want, even official TLoU toilet seat, I won't buy anything else.
Honestly...this is very cool in my opinion😅.
I love reading scripts for movies because it increases my appreciation for the artform, and I'm sure I'll feel the same way with a video game script.
Speaking of...I've never read a video game script, so it'll be interesting to see how it differs from a movie or television script🤔.
I miss the days ND was actually known for making videogames.
I owned Patlabor: The Movie collectors edition and it came with a 280+ page book as a bonus that showed all the storyboard and a bit of script which actually quite fun to read.
So, i would grab this if i want to collect TloU merch. But a 600 pages script + hardcover sounds it'll be really expensives especially combine with import & tax cost. I rather put that money towards artbook or the TPB prequel comic American Dreams.
I wouldn't read this, not even for money.

I actually quite like the idea. It goes to show how much effort it takes to make it as opposed to a movie script, for example.
Sony is milking the last of us like Elsie the 🐄 cool.word up son
@UltimateOtaku91 Ikr
I guess it's a taboo for Sony / ND to make merch like action figures, artbook, comics, scriptbook, tshirt, or anything from their popular franchises 😮💨
sony love bleeding us dry nearly as much as nintendo
Would much prefer gameplay from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but cool for people that like this stuff.
@gaston VR Version with a golf mini game?
I can just imagine the reviews 😅
Not something I'm interested in but I can see the audience for this.
@Czar_Khastik love that 🤣
Yeah I hate it when companies tie your hands behind your back and force you at gunpoint to buy things…the horror.
This looks great, already got a pre-pre order in with my local Forbidden Planet.
@Dodoo @Overmind Good to see us all laughing our way into the weekend, have a good one, guys!
I think it is pretty cool, I buy the art books for a lot of video games and might grab this, presume it is coming to the UK!
the last of us kart will be next
keep it up and i wont buy any of TLOU lol
@PuppetMaster it's just mind blowing how people can have a problem with a company making merch, no one is forcing you to buy this stuff so to get worked up over it is something else 🙃.
Alot of excuses but can we finally just admit modern devs arent anywhere close to the ones 10-20 years ago. It seems like modern devs just can’t make anything new more at all.
Edit: western devs
At what point does this cow no longer give milk?
Come now people. Making money off of things like this is the lowest hanging fruit for a company. It's merch and related things like this that help keep video games from costing over $100. It's like complaining that Disney makes toys based on their most beloved movies. It's the business. And it really doesn't actually harm anyone that this exists. Don't want it? Don't buy it. Think it's overpriced? Wait for a sale. Think it's the coolest thing ever? Buy it at full price. It really is that simple folks.
Looks like a cool thing to have for fans of the series. But 70 quid? I'd love to see how much each book costs them to make
@PuppetMaster it's taboo for Sony and naughty dog to make games and stop milking a dead franchise
Ah gotta love when Sony and naughty dog are out of ideas and release a book. One question, does the book fit in the ps5 disc drive because they used to be known for making games remember?
sony figures that if there is a 1st party drought they might as well sell as much useless gaming related merch as humanly possible to keep the revenue flowing. careful, it might work and they will stop making actual games!
is this item for the rich kids with no purpose, too much money on their hands and a dire need to fill that empty void inside by consuming every bit of merch that gets released? absolutely!
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah. Gotta love the tiktok generation. They got so angry very quickly over little things or something they don't want.
@Noone2025 If it's a dead franchise then why it still selling and people asking for a new game??? It even rent free inside your head for years lol. You should moved on if it's a dead franchise but here you are with your hot take 🤣
The headline is genius i guess in serving its purpose.
How about devs made tlou p.3? You lazy ***** hahahahaha
I'm all for things like this. I have a huge collection of hardback video game books and I adore them.
Excellent, i’ll grab one when it’s available in the UK
I will be buying a copy. I'll use the money I'll be saving by not buying the inevitable 4k Blu-ray steelbook of the The Last of Us Season 2, which is crap.
Sure they are going to have TLOU part 1 and 2 available for the launch of the ps6, and of course the ps7. Sony has been very successful with the ps4 and ps5 but the live blood of most consoles are the exclusive titles available on the consoles.
@Czar_Khastik the headline and your comment are gold 😂
@Nalim Or for the days when they even released video games... like, at all. Haha! It honestly blows my mind that Naughty Dog released Uncharted 1, 2, 3, The Last of Us, and Left Behind all within a single game console generation.
I'm just going to say this.
Sony - there are other IPs you could be making more of an effort with.
Seriously.
@CKFilms Can you tell me what are those other IP's?
I've only played the first Remastered Version and the first couple hours of TLOU2 and am currently watching TLOU S1 l loved the first game myself and will possibly play the 2nd in the future
@PuppetMaster you want to list the past 5 generations of first party franchises that aren't called The Last of Us?
At this is why Sony has really evolved into a pretty terribly run platform holder/publisher.
Praying for an anime adaptation next. lol
On a serious note, while expensive this could be a really nice to have for writers, script enjoyers & people that just enjoy the BTS stuff. The 3 game scripts could provide insight into writing process, page to screen translation, how Druckman's style evolved over the course of a decade, and how Gross' input changed Part 2 (as Druckman wrote the first 2 scripts alone). Depending on how they write you could get og intent on certain characters, scenes and interactions before the rest of the creative process switched things around.
EDIT: can't tell if the comments are taking the piss (as the title is doing) or genuinely complaining about a nice little merch book that amounts to ND sending the scripts to Dark Horse and them handling the rest.
@CKFilms I asked you a question and you answered with a question. Nice 😮💨
And undoubtedly people will moan and whine about milking something when they are not obligated to purchase, view or use any of this.
A good old "mind your own f'ing business" should accompany these articles. Just to remind the devoid of common sense that whatever a company releases doesn't have to cater to them personally. We live in the age of the ego.
Wow they are really going the 'add more merch and crossover adaptations route' aren't there. For those that want it I guess, milk the IP as much as they can with any types of items they can think of.
I miss the PS3 era when you'd get Heavenly Sword or Lair with behind the scenes on the disk, nowadays it's in artbooks (digital or physical) or just on their YouTube channels. On occasion you get digital USB or I assume viewer apps for OSTs which is fine, rather then just the OST in a music playing menu. At least for some Japanese games I have come across that, I haven't bought any western AAA or AA ones that have done that to know as I usually see the statues or other stuff, or got older Day One or other editions (not Day One either, way later just around, mostly Japanese AAs with disks or artbooks though or odd Anime complete editions with artbooks).
Even (can't say for western modern media but they probably still do) but anime have just the advertising previews/trailers, barely behind the scenes anymore, odd ones with the Japanese actors a few quiz game stuff which was cool, that Married but not Lovers did which was cool or the dub behind the scenes for My Dress Up Darling, or the dub language decisions, behind the scenes for Devil is a part timer S1 re-release, but not so much, it's very rare to see, only in odd releases, I don't miss dub actor commentaries, though were just bad, had ).
For those that like these types of things or the IP, by all means, enjoy.
Still no interest in this myself so I'll just continue to ignore these items and read the articles. XD
@djlard Same here, got PS3 version, never cared, have Part 2 as someone else played it, hated it.
I just read articles, I never play my PS3 copy, I didn't care for any other media about it, just watching from the outside all the time.
The other story about the PlayStation job listing mentions ‘optimising title profitability.’ I think this could mean, making more money out of an IP by porting it to other platforms.
If Sony does start releasing single player games on other platforms I think The Last of Us might be first.
@ilyn There are not that many golf games with psvr2 support, so I would neither mind a golf game in the last of us universe
@StrickenBiged There are certainly some challenges in a VR adaptation. Not everything can be easily or directly ported to VR, to not lose the impact or creating the same emotions. It is also possible that I am too naïve but the first part should adapt rather well.
GIVE US FACTIONS REMASTERED OR FACTIONS 2 FFS!!!!!!
@gaston I was thinking more how players might react to being in that cutscene from Abby's point of view, not any technical issues.
@StrickenBiged I suppose if there is a way to transport a message in a flat cinematic, there is likely also a way to transport it in a similar way in VR which may require to adjust the camera position e.g. just a from a bit further away. But maybe it would be more difficult to trigger a comparable reaction of a person experiencing that scene in VR compared to a person just watching the cinematic on a flat screen than I think it is.
