If you played games in the 90s, then you’ll remember Acclaim.
The publisher’s distinctive font and rainbow coloured logo is seared into our memories – it showed in front of literally hundreds of classic games, including the likes of NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, and so, so many more.
Well, after filing for bankruptcy in 2004, the publisher’s been resurrected, and it’s plotting a livestream on 10th September from 11:30AM PT to reveal a new lineup.

If you’re not sure what time that is in your country, then we’ve embedded a guide below:
- North America: 11:30am PDT / 12:30pm MDT / 1:30pm CDT / 2:30pm EDT
- UK/Ire: 7:30pm BST
- Europe: 8:30pm CEST / 9:30pm EEST
- Asia/Oceania: 3:30am (Thu) JST / 2:30am (Thu) AWST / 4:30am (Thu) AEST
It’s unclear exactly what Acclaim is cooking, but it seems it’s signed titles synonymous with the publisher’s past. So, expect arcade sports games and exciting 16-bit adventures – a few projects are actually teased in the trailer embedded above.
“We’re not here to chase ghosts,” explained new Acclaim CEO Alex Josef in a press release. “We’re here to take the energy and chaos that made Acclaim unforgettable and channel it into something new. The old screens are cracking, and what’s coming through is something exciting and different.”
The teaser trailer’s blurb adds:
“Blink and you might miss it. Hidden in the static, behind the glow of CRT screens, are the titles that will lay the foundation for this exciting new chapter for Acclaim. This isn’t nostalgia for its own sake. It’s something else: a kind of retrofuturenostalgia, paying homage to and embracing the brand’s unmistakable DNA and history while charting a bold new course into the future.”
Well, we’ve loved many of Acclaim’s games over the years, so we’re excited to see what it’s got cooking. We’ll certainly be watching the live stream with intrigue.

NBA Jam please 👍
Nice Millhouse reference
Revolt Remastered incoming.
Can’t wait for the accompanying AVGN video.
Is this new news? I’m sure I read about this months ago.
Yeah I remember acclaim back in the 1990s. Good times.nba jam is the game.word up son
@FinneasGH The revival isn't, the livestream where they're going to announce their games is.
Simpsons reference. Nice.
I don't personally see a brand revived after 20 years by people with no connection whatsoever to the origin beyond the rights and unwanted IPs that they bought as an 'it's back' scenario, but whatever.
We'll see quite quickly if the new "Acclaim" actually have anything to offer, or if they're banking almost purely on nostalgia (bought dirt-cheap).
I remember the moniker Hakklaim given its awful brand quality.
@get2sammyb Ah yeah I’m sure I read about it on Time Extension or something months and months ago and then forgot it was a thing.
I remember the Acclaim logo with a lot of nostalgia so will be interesting to see what they come up with.
Anyone remember the campaign to legally change your name to Turok to win prizes? (And how it later turned out that the ‘winners’ were all actors and the proposed name changes were all fake?)
If it's nostalgia pass, I don't support nostalgia, I support quality. Not emotional stupidity and nonsensical business by Indies let alone 90s/00s company revivals unless they offer something good enough.
Let's Go!! I member...you member?
I don't want these guys back lmao.
But exactly WHO resurrected the brand? That's the point here. Someone with money bought the rights to the name and whatever IP, if any, is attached to it. And knowing who that is, is what really matters here.
