Rumour: PS Portal Could Be About to Get Even More Compelling 1

We know Sony’s handheld accessory PS Portal has proven an enormous success, with approximately 5% of the PS5’s install base estimated to have purchased the Remote Play streaming device in the US.

Well, it could be about to get even better, assuming screenshots from Reddit are accurate.

A couple of pictures doing the rounds show images of Deliver At All Costs and The Outer Worlds 2’s store pages, where it says: “Pre-order to stream and play instantly at release on PS Portal or PS5 (only with PS Plus Premium).”

We haven’t been able to replicate the text on the PS Store for ourselves, but if it’s accurate it would indicate further improvements to Sony’s cloud streaming solution.

At the moment, you can stream select games directly to your PS5 with PS Plus Premium, as well as titles from the PS Plus Game Catalogue to your PS Portal.

The wording here suggests that Sony is plotting a future update where you’ll be able to pre-order and purchase games from the PS Store and stream them directly to your PS Portal, without ever needing to turn your PS5 on at all.

Obviously, the quality of your streaming experience will vary, but we’ve generally found Sony’s solution to be surprisingly competent.

It’s interesting how the Japanese giant appears to be quietly iterating on this part of its business.

The company clearly recognises the long-term importance of cloud streaming, but it’s not trying to force the issue at all. It’s just steadily improving on its solution, putting it in a good position to pounce should widespread adoption of this feature ever emerge.

Is this something you’d personally take advantage of at all? Stream if you wanna go faster in the comments section below.
