Re: The Order: 1886 Dev Pitched a Sequel to Sony, But Was Denied

Spedfrom

I would most definitely have bought a sequel. Whatever was there in the original, I enjoyed, even if the flaws were glaring. If there ever was a game with immense potential that a sequel would likely have materialised, this is it.

And in 2025, 10 years after its release, it stills puts many games to shame in the graphics department.

Re: Original Dragon Age Writer Responds to EA's Live Service Obsession with Common Sense

Spedfrom

The discourse around this game is both insane and inane. And the fault lies on both EA and the hate vultures that call themselves gaming influencers.

Veilguard is gorgeous, it's well polished; the combat - for all the ***** it got for the changes done to it over the course of the various games in the series - is fun and fluid; the story is exciting, the side quests are interesting and help develop the characters, main story or world further; the banter between main characters always makes me stop and listen, snicker, laugh or wonder. It's not perfect and it has some inconsistencies here and there, particularly in interactivity or uneven writing. But overall it's a great story-based, action RPG.

Yes it's no longer a cRPG like early Baldur's Gate or a tactical/action hybrid RPG like Origins, but that's the past, it's not what this game is. It's also not what I still to this day want, which is Dragon Age Origins 2, essentially. But on its own merits, The Veilguard is a good game. And if you didn't get it because you subscribe to the anti-woke stupidity or you just let the hateful discourse pouring out of Twitter, Youtube and other places influence you, then get a ***** spine and try things for yourself. And judge them for yourself. Not under the shadow cast from a influencer that is farming hate and attention for money.

On the crap the EA CEO said... Well, it's EA. They're basic bitches that have always gone for whatever makes them big bucks, and that involves properties that appeal to the masses.

BioWare and EA are not a good match. They have never been. BioWare is responsible for what it creates, but the malignant influence EA has exerted on them since the purchase has compounded BioWare's troubles immensely.

BioWare would do better in the hands of a publisher with less money but more tact and insight. Less greed but more taste. EA would rather kill the studio for good and keep the IP than ever sell it, as that's what they do. But they are not a good match and what we have witnessed over the years is the result of a greedy, big numbers and big bucks obsessed corporation pushing a studio that was intelligent and creative to create products that are not right for them. And suffer for it.

This will not end well. Not unless somehow BioWare manages to convince EA to sell it to a publisher that cares.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Failed Because It Wasn't Live Service, EA CEO Seems to Suggest

Spedfrom

@StrickenBiged Entirely agree. Origins is still my favourite and I still wish I could play a Origins 2. DA2 still retains some of the dark grittiness of the first game, but it was much smaller in scope, due to the ridiculous 18 months development deadline EA forced upon BioWare. Then Inquisition and Veilguard were even bigger departures from Origins. And while I enjoyed Inquisition and am enjoying Veilguard, I was also disappointed by them. I cannot shake off the feeling that something is missing, that I'm not getting what I want, that the world, lore, characters and art style of the first game are what fascinated me and is actually what has kept me locked into the series all these years. But we never got more of that, and as you say BioWare lost sight of the audience it had for this series while chasing the one in their heads or EA's heads. Or a combination of both. Thus, we got to where we are.

Re: Could Wolverine PS5 Launch in 2025? Insomniac Avoids the Question

Spedfrom

For my tastes, Insomniac's pivot to Marvel games is unfortunate. I have no interest in that universe/lore/characters/products. It has been a successful enterprise for them up to now though, so not all is lost. And if any of those Marvel games would spur my interest, I suppose a Wolverine game would be that, provided it's adult-themed, intelligent and doesn't fall for all the usual tropes with Marvel products. Low chance then, but I guess we'll see.

I certainly hope there will at least soon be a new game from a non-Marvel IP. I'd even take a new Ratchet and Clank.

Re: Poll: Will the Switch 2 Compete with PS5?

It doesn't matter than they are consoles of different power levels. These companies are competing for players' time and attention spans, and on that regard they are very much competitors, whether we like it or not.

Re: Reaction: Sony's Live Service Push Has Been a Disaster of Utterly Insane Proportions

Who, in their right ***** mind, would think it was REASONABLE, let alone advisable, to put most of their ***** single-player games making studios on ***** GaaS?

Who, in their right ***** mind, would force their bread and butter studios to do something they are not used to making, when your players are waiting for single-player offerings?

The stupidity and corporate greed is just astonishing.

Re: Reaction: Sony's Live Service Push Has Been a Disaster of Utterly Insane Proportions

Spedfrom

I assumed, and I think nearly all of us did, that Bend and Bluepoint were working on single-player games. To now find out they were actually working on games for this stupidly incompetent live service push that just got cancelled and thus will not produce any meaningful content that we can play for years to come... Words fail me. I am ***** fuming and I want to see heads roll.

No ***** wonder Jim Ryan is gone. Good riddance doesn't even begin to describe my feelings.

Re: Ken Levine Spills the Beans on Irrational Games' Closure Post BioShock Infinite

Spedfrom

I actually really dislike Bioshock Infinite. It felt disjointed and a polar opposite to the marvelous, incredibly cohesive and groundbreaking first game, which is one of my personal favourites. Bioshock 2 was serviceable, but ultimately forgettable.

On account of how incredible the first Bioshock is and how similarly exciting Judas is looking, it's currently one of my most anticipated upcoming titles.

Re: 30 Games Nominated for The Game Awards' Community Vote Revealed

Astro Bot, all the way. It stands tall above all others. A fun, cohesive, polished, joyful experience born out of creativity and team spirit, with none of the maligned stories surrounding Wukong. It deserves the award not only for being a sublime representative for the gaming medium, but also simply for being a force for good.

Re: Outstanding PS2 RPG Dragon Quest 8 Is Now 20 Years Old

Spedfrom

It would need to do without the random battles. I got the game when it first came out on the PS2 but never finished it because after a while the random battles just wore me down. I was already pretty fed up with random battles in RPGs by that point and it was disappointing that DQ8 still had them.

I've gone back to the game once or twice since then, but still didn't finish it because of the same reason. So I would only buy a remake/remaster if that feature was changed. Other than that it was a brilliant experience: charming and beautiful.

Re: Analyst Says Dragon Age: The Veilguard Had a Good, But Not a Great Launch

Spedfrom

Bought the game and my partner is playing through it and enjoying it immensely. I'm currently playing through Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and will move onto Dragon Age: The Veilguard once we're both finished with our current playthroughs.

The noise surrounding this game is just that, noise. From hateful people, mostly and essentially. I do not spend energy giving them attention and neither should anyone else that enjoys the series.

Re: PS5 Handheld Device in the Works at Sony, New Report Claims

Spedfrom

PlayStation already has a handheld and it's called PlayStation Portal. Add more features to it like being able to play PS1 to PS4 games natively or some such, sure. But don't drop its main focus because that's what's made it successful.

Lack of support killed the Vita, decent support (that dwindled as time went on) made the PSP a moderate success. Lack of support would once more kill this rumoured handheld, if it's not a Portal-like.

Re: Ghost of Yotei's Gorgeous Open World Will Be Less Repetitive Than Tsushima's

Spedfrom

I do find that Sucker Punch has had very repetitive games in the past, namely the inFamous series. I couldn't even bring myself to finish Second Son, despite having completed 1 and 2. It was probably the least repetitive out of the 3, but by that point I had had enough of the series, I suppose.

Now Ghost of Tsushima I absolutely loved and it was a lot less repetitive than inFamous, but still had a bit of it, which is just about the only criticism I have about that game. If Sucker Punch is improving that further in Ghost of Yotei, then I'm ready to fall in love with another "Ghost of" masterpiece.

Re: Sony's Live Service Push 'No Joke', A Lot of People Working on Horizon Online

Spedfrom

I have bought and played to completion the first 2 Horizon games but will not be buying Horizon Online. I have no interest in multiplayer games on consoles. There's only two I play and they're on the PC. I don't wish them a lack of success with this venture, but using existing single player IPs for multiplayer projects disgusts me entirely, to be quite honest.

Re: 'Difficult to Comment' on Astro Bot's Square Enix Snub, Says Team Asobi

Spedfrom

This is an entirely stupid decision, likely spurred on by Square Enix's new president. While his business strategy is sound for what is a third party company, which is to expand their portfolio to other consoles and PC more consistently, avoiding character cameos in a single Sony game that attracts an audience of all ages does not and would not endanger that. For all its creativity, the business side of Square Enix keeps making unnecessary mistakes. Unrealistic sales expectations and poor business strategy has been historic, but we can now add marketing fumbles to that as well.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn PS4's Price Doubles After PS5 Remaster Announcement

Spedfrom

Law of offer and demand. Most people seem to live in la la land, where a business must exist to provide charity rather than make a profit. Obviously if something is in demand, a business will charge more for it, the opposite happens when demand drops. As a consumer you have the option of simply not buying and letting that be your message to the seller. It's not like we're talking about the price of bread or water. Gaming is a luxury, not essential to life.
