RE7 was scary because it was made to be a scary game. Not specifically because of the first person view. RE8 was first person as well and it was nowhere near as scary. I actually find it to be the worst in the series, worse even than RE6.
This is all a very stupid take on what makes a game scary, coming from a director that clearly wants to push their preference for first person. And it's making me go from hyped to "going to wait for a sale".
Bioshock is a stellar, once in a generation piece of media. Both sequels were disappointing in their own ways and I will not blindly buy a 4th game as I did the 2 sequels. Might not even buy it at all, seeing how things are going.
Whatever messy state Judas is in, I would much rather get that instead whenever it comes out.
@LazyDaisy Facial animations and particularly lip syncing has been the most difficult type of animation to get right for years now. Decades even. Naughty Dog has indeed spoiled us with what is essentially incredibly good facial animations and the best lip sync tech at the moment, even if the latter itself is not yet perfect. And so other games using other graphical engines that aren't up to par will always feel a little disappointing.
I hope Capcom and other devs get up to speed with Naughty Dog's prowess in that department sooner rather than later, but as I've mentioned, lip sync has always been the hardest of animations to get right.
As if a game that has solid but non-innovative gameplay that solidly gets you through the story, which is a major point of such a product, and gorgeous presentation, is a bad thing.
Not all games need to be pushing the medium forward. A good product that has a proven basis is still a good product. I have the game and I am enjoying it for what it is. A fascinating look into early 20th century Mafia, with an engrossing story and solid gameplay.
As a southern European, but not Italian, this game is giving me all the vibes from my childhood, due to similarity in places, sounds and people's attitudes. It's a work of art in that respect, in how it translates southern European sensitivities. But leave it to an anglo-saxon to completely miss the point.
It's giving Push Square being annoyed at having to purchase its own copy of the game and not understanding that some things are good for what and as they are.
This summary of TierraGamer's review is exactly what I expected from this game, and exactly what I wanted from it. And it aligns with what IGN said of the game. Both sites give it the same score and seem to have had similar expectations for the game that align with my own. So I feel my pre-order was justified. Will give the game a go later today.
"Mafia: The Old Country delivers a highly focused experience that remains entertaining throughout its duration thanks to its variations in gameplay and a truly immersive story. While there is no innovation in terms of combat and stealth, it remains a worthwhile Sicilian journey, especially considering its reduced price."
If there's one thing certain in this life, it's that whenever someone says something is too big to fail....... it will fail. See Lehman Brothers igniting global economic downturn in 2008.
The writing on the wall is very clear, but everyone is still either going too far with it, or in denial.
Microsoft is going full third party - they bought far, faaaar too much value in publishing business and their console isn't enough of a success to allow them to remain a contender in the console race. The only way to recoup their very large investments is to become a third party, as their console business is insignificant compared to that.
Sony is going partial third party, likely only for multiplayer games and games created with third party brand value added in, such as Lego Horizon. Meanwhile they'll keep the heavy single player hits exclusive, because that's their PlayStation premium crop that fans want, whereas multiplayer makes sense to go third party for income maximisation.
I'm a fan of these types of games. It's true that often their gameplay is lacking, but they also often have incredible potential that is cut short by lack of funding or cancelled sequels. And they can be fun in their own way - sometimes the fun to be had is not in the gameplay, but in their themes or the sheer awe their story and/or presentation provides. The Order 1886 is another game that was a spectacle to behold and had a great setting, but would have needed a sequel to properly evolve its gameplay. It wasn't bad, but simply passable - however it would have been a sequel I definitely would have bought.
And really, we should have variety in the types of games that are offered up to the market. If it's not for you, don't buy it, move on. Others will have an interest. Sadly, the loud voices that rise up whenever they're not aimed at as a target audience by every single game that gets released, are just a bit too loud.
Yeah I'm removing this from my wishlist then. I wanted 4 to be like 1, a Zelda-like with high production values set in this universe. Co-op and online are a turn off, personally.
And undoubtedly people will moan and whine about milking something when they are not obligated to purchase, view or use any of this.
A good old "mind your own f'ing business" should accompany these articles. Just to remind the devoid of common sense that whatever a company releases doesn't have to cater to them personally. We live in the age of the ego.
We don't really know how this compares to the original 4 SH games or even to the new f game. The trailer showed nothing of substance. I'm taking a very cautious approach with this one, just as I am with f. None of these feel Silent Hill to me.
Can't wait to see these greedy, profit-first-and-foremost publishers bending to the power of European legislation. Customer rights in gaming have been crushed for far too long.
I signed it a few days ago when I came across it on Reddit. It's essential that our rights as gaming consumers are protected, because they are not at the moment and publishers have the freedom to drop support and access for games that often release at full price.
Also, when buying digital games we are buying a license to access the game, not ownership of the game product itself, which is appalling. If physical games become protected, digital will be next.
I’ve noticed that my gameplay hours for games such as Dragon Age Veilguard and others are now correct after this latest update! In-game I had about 108 hours and on the PS5 game screen it showed 194 hours or so. Now they match. There must have been updates beyond what’s listed as patch notes.
The last 5 free levels were a lot of fun, I'm hoping, and have no reason to doubt, that the next ones are just as good. Team Asobi deserves all their accolades, not only for having made an excellent game, but also for continuously supporting it with good content and for free.
My PS Plus Essential subscription ran out a month or so ago and I was waiting for a deal to purchase another 12 months. Good timing, as this will be the perfect opportunity for it.
I wanted to get this, but Ghost of Yotei and Mafia: The Old Country pre-orders took priority. DOOM Eternal being a downgrade from DOOM 2016, for me, distinctly contributed to this. As well as the fact that it's a storyline move to the past, rather than the future.
To be honest all I wanted was a DOOM 2016 2.0, an evolution of the gameplay of that game and a continuation of the Mars/near-sci-fi scenario. Eternal changed the gameplay far too much and weirdly went in an almost high fantasy direction.
Let me say it again, I simply wanted... MORE DOOM 2016-like DOOM!
Based on the controls alone it can be classed as a poor game. They were already incredibly outdated when the game came out and made for a frustrating, unappealing experience, regardless of the amount and variety of its side quests. The main quest didn't grab me either. I finished it only once on account of having spent money on it and it took me about 5 years to do so.
@PlatinumMikey I understand that’s how it works and do my best to always long press the PS button whenever I leave the console for a while to do something else, and a game is still running. And I certainly have not left DAV running for almost 60 hours just sitting on a pause or in-game menu screen. I’ve seen quite a few other reports of game time not being adequately shown, it seems to still be an ongoing issue.
Is that widget still going to report an erroneous number of hours played for some games? For example: it shows I've played around 135 hours of Dragon Age Veilguard, when in fact despite not having finished it yet I'm only at about 75 hours. And it's not the only example. Sony needs to work on a fix for this issue ASAP, it's a glaring one.
Never finished the game, because the difficulty spike increases massively from Act 3 to Act 4. And yes, it did feel like the game was ending after Act 3, but suddenly boom, you have three more acts to play! Except it's even harder than it already was. Eventually just lost patience and had other games I wanted to play.
In any case, I played for a bit after updating the game and barely noticed any difference. I think it's because Returnal has always been a polished game, technically and visually.
I mean, I've pre-ordered this weeks ago so they're not trying to sell me the game. But seeing that purity of experience and concept when it comes to exploration is so important to them, as it is to me, I'm even more glad I've bought it. Ready to embark!
Silent Hill 2 Remake was unexpectedly amazing. However, SHf is looks absolutely nothing like a Silent Hill game. They describe it as a beautiful but horror filled game and that tracks when looking at the art for it. And it could potentially take the series in a whole new and exciting direction. But seeing as most previous Silent Hill efforts made post Team Silent era are dreadful, seeing as even the recent labyrinthine sort of demo like thing The Short Message was forgettable... I'm not hopeful at all.
At present I would much rather have Bloober remaking the original Silent Hill. That has me a lot more excited than SHf. But I guess we'll soon see if there's reasons to be excited for the new game.
A reboot might get me interested. While I love the gaming series, the movies it has spawned have been absolutely awful. I've watched maybe two of them and they are cheap looking, disjointed, disconnected messes. A reboot, if done in the vein of The Last of Us TV series, in the way it reflects and expands the gaming series, might be a success. Otherwise, I'll pass once again.
I have it pre-ordered! For a few weeks now. It looks so good. The ambience, the story, the impactful performances, the soundtrack and the combat, which while being turn-based, seems to really pack a punch. So excited!
Loved the remake for SH2. If this means they're now doing the remake for the first Silent Hill game, I'll pre-order straight away. as soon as it's announced. If they're doing SH3 or 4 first, then I'll wait for a sale.
I have to agree. I might be eventually surprised by a feature here and there that I wasn't expecting, sure. But unless it includes themes and folders, I'm not really interested.
I've pre-ordered it! It looks great and sounds incredible. The gameplay seems to hit a sweet spot between turn-based but dynamic and impactful at the same time. Cannot wait!
I hope this doesn't mean the second game will be covered over the course of 3 seasons, while the first one covered 1 single season. Unless the 4th season is meant to cover a potential third game's story which in turn might mean it'll be a more straightforward story akin to TLOU1, rather than TLOU2.
