Battlefield Call of Duty

We don't know if you've noticed, but there's a lot of buzz around Battlefield 6 right now — although Call of Duty publisher Activision apparently isn't worried.

Hyped as a grand return to what made Battlefield... well, Battlefield, the military shooter is racking up serious support from those who have grown weary of the competition.

Indeed, with the aforementioned Call of Duty going all-in on its Warzone battle royale mode — complete with increasingly absurd character skins — there's been a growing demand for a more grounded AAA FPS experience.

The hope is that Battlefield 6 will fill that void, and going by just how ridiculously popular the current beta is, EA may well have a homerun on its hands.

But even with Battlefield heading towards it at top speed, Call of Duty is simply "too big to fail". That's according to internal leadership conversations at Activision, apparently, as reported by the reliable Insider Gaming.

The article states that although Activision is monitoring Battlefield 6 in an attempt to gauge its success, the company can't see it competing with the well-established juggernaut that is Call of Duty.

But we suppose the real question here is whether Battlefield needs to compete with Call of Duty in the first place. Obviously both properties are targeting the same kind of audience, but again, given the more pop culture direction that the latter has been heading in for years now, it feels like Battlefield can provide something different.

There was a time, all the way back in the PS3 era, when the two franchises were very much head-to-head with one another. This was when Call of Duty struck gold with the original Modern Warfare, of course, but Battlefield 1943, Bad Company, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3 were all very heavy hitters for EA in the years that followed.

So, do you think Call of Duty's got anything to worry about with this Battlefield resurgence? Squad up in the comments section below.
