@CK97 I enjoy Apex Legends but these games don't share much in common. One is for the Fortnite crowd, the other is for the Destiny lot. The only thing they share is online really.
Anthem Day 1 for me. After playing the Alpha and the VIP demo I am mindful of the technical issues. The public demo this weekend will be a decent indicator of how far along these are of being resolved. However, the gameplay and the prospect of a new IP with new lore and possibilities was enough to persuade me to give it a good go.
No excuse, but the VIP demo was apparently running a 6 week old build. Changes have been made since then. I finished the story missions, but gave up due to infinite load screens following that, so no stronghold or freeplay for me. I enjoyed what I played, but ultimately disappointed at the shoddiness of the whole thing.
@tatsumi I preordered the Legion of Dawn edition. Aside from the soundtrack, the main benefit are the four skins. After plonking down an extra £20, I would be a little peeved if these can also be earned in game for free. What do you reckon?
@tatsumi I agree. Similar games such as Warframe, Destiny and The Division didn't really diverge from the "go here, shoot that thing" mechanic. I think we all know what this game is now, such the question should be more "Is the combat mechanic fun?" and is the core gameplay loop addictive. No-one complains about Monster Hunter World lacking diversity as the core gameplay is excellent.
@Rob_230 I echo your point on the bullet spongey enemies. Four head shots to drop...sometimes....as long as they don't get up again. Watching some speedruns, looks like the best way to proceed is one shot to the head to stun and then run past.
Downloaded Steep ready to go. Rightly or wrongly, I have boycotted Ubisoft games since Far Cry 3 as everything past that has just seemed cookie cutter or pushed out the door faster than a dog circling in the kitchen. However, Steep might be the one to break that self imposed rule. Or, will focus on completing RDR2. 76% through the main story..must keep going!!
Monster Hunter World would probably be my vote. Currently on Chapter 4 of RDR2 and trying to love it. I currently like it. Great world and vision held back by repetitive mission structure and the sheer amount of content that doesn't seem to contribute that much. Just getting through the main story is a slog (proven by less than 50% completing Chapter 3 according to trophies). Also, online is a let down. Get off my lawn..grrr
@JoeBlogs Good questions. I guess if I compare the original Fallout to Fallout 3 the style is still inkeeping (in terms of theme and mood) but how they executed it was completely different. Another example, albeit more spurious, would be how the new Spiderman game chose pseudo-realism rather than a cell shaded look which would be truer to the original comic interpretation. I'm glad both games took the route they did. So, whilst I recognise the visuals are in-keeping with the original, in this case, I hoped that the developer would choose to differentiate the game a little more.
As for my missed opportunity comment. That was more about how this game seems to stick pretty rigidly to the original in terms of gameplay and features. I certainly don't want to go back to the bad old days of TJ&E 3, but something a little less dated may have gone down better with me personally. Hope that helps explain my viewpoint a little.
@jdv95 Yes. I agree that without physical products on shelves it may not succeed as well as it could. Also, big no to streaming from me also. It's taken me a while to get comfortable with digital, but the sheer convenience of it now outweighs my wish to see boxes on shelves.
I am looking forward to this. The movement, the teamwork elements and the potential of a new universe and lore are enough to drag me in at the moment. In lieu of an excellent Iron Man game, this satisfies my man child fantasies.
I'm certainly going all in on this one. Bioware have been really open during the development of this game and have regular "ask the dev" sessions where they clear up misconceptions and worries on being linked to big bad EA. I may be proven wrong, but I think this game is getting a lot more flak than it should do. EA have been shady in the past, but honestly, there is nothing that has been shown/discussed that should make the alarm bells ring.
@Eternallover21 Gosh. Yea, I had the Red Dead clearout last night. Brutal, but I convinced myself that I probably wont replay Nioh and Deus Ex anytime soon.
Edit: Thinking what you said over a little more, 300GB for two games is a bit of a game changer.
After Stranded Deep got canned a week before release with the whole Telltale debacle, I'm glad to see another water-based survival game fill the gap. Looking forward to it.
Loved the first three games Soul Blade to SCII, but lost the will to continue as it lost its identity for me. Played the horrible network test, but good to see the reviews are doing well.
I'm fatigued by this series. Origins looked great, but now its all just window dressing for the same tired thing...again. Bring back Tenchu, I need a decent atmospheric stealth game.
@JJ2 I guess my feeling is that if a map is necessary it may as well be readily available as a mini map. The only downside being it being visible on the HUD all the time. For me, however, it beats having to access a potential main map via a menu. Each to their own, but I should be an all or nothing in my opinion. I would take the nothing, but can see the atmospheric benefits of the all. A middle ground seems to have the worst of both elements.
Minimap on for me. Sounds interesting, but cant imagine it adding much to the gameplay aside from hours of looking for the next objective. As Rockstar games are always chock full of things to do anyway, I would love to finish it sometime.
Thought I'd made it safe to the end of the article, then got ambushed by a "this scribe" right at the finish line. Well played PushSquare. Well played.
@Gamer83 I understand your complaint about complaints. However, I think Capcom put them in the game, because they want us to buy them. They can steer us in the right direction by adding in an unacceptable grind, or some other way of impacting gameplay to push us towards purchasing. I don't like how game design can be influenced by MTs. Single player games can suffer as much as multiplayer in this regard.
I don't get the drama and wouldn't have bought it up unless an article like this did....so..it does look downgraded. If both images are compressed, then they are both being judged fairly. Doesn't bother me, but its hard to argue that the release image is at the same level of fidelity.
Shame to hear that you haven't got the review code. Plenty of other reviews to go by in the meantime. On the plus side, you got your click from me on this article. You guys usually deliver, so no probs!
Tried but failed. Smyths hit me with an error screen. Amazon seemed to have gone early and Shop.to went out of stock instantly. I think retail only would have been fairer....well, it would have prevented scalpers getting them so easily.
I would probably keep them on to help compare weapon damage etc. I am looking forward to this game. Looks pretty good and Bioware are making all the right noises. EA's recent gorging on humble pie will also help I'm sure.
Looking forward to it. I get the feeling that EA has learnt from it mistakes (however temporarily) with its monetisation model. With their financial grunt and Bioware's pretty good track record I am hoping for something special. Agree the theme is played out a little, but the gameplay looks quite neat.

Re: Far Cry: New Dawn - Yeah, It's Okay
Nice to see this at a low price in Game - £37.99. Next to Metro at over £50, it does look like it offers value. If it does or not, I wouldn't know.
Re: ANTHEM Early Access Immediately Hit with Widespread Connection Issues
@CK97 Fair enough. I think they are both quite similar to their inspirations. Shame you didn't enjoy Anthem.

150GB install+patch, Pay to Win MP, Multiple editions...Is that you Ubisoft? I will be buying this, but only the standard edition.
