Re: PREY Amps Up the Volume in PS4 Launch Trailer

Shellcore

Like many of the above commenters, I also played the demo and came away unimpressed. Seen this style of FPS done before (and a lot better). However, the thing that worried me the most was the combat. Maybe I just need practise, but it felt janky, awkward and was hard to hit those alien smoke spiders.

Re: Nioh's Dragon of the North Expansion Carves Out a Launch Trailer

Shellcore

@zazzy It's manageable and helps that the combat is rewarding. The loot also helps to mix up your play style. Nioh differs to Dark Souls as it is split into missions, each with a recommended level. My run through goes something like: complete mission, grind to recommended level for next using previously completed side mission, attempt mission, summon in a visitor (another player) to co-op if finding it too difficult.

Re: UK Sales Charts: There's No Taming Ghost Recon: Wildlands

I think we are overestimating the impact MK8 will have. Unlike BOTW, this has been released previously. I'm guessing many Switch owners also own a Wii U and MK8 already. Not sure a "complete edition" + battle mode will justify the price tag. Not saying it won't sell, or that it isn't worth buying - just that buying any game twice is a stretch for most.

Re: Reaction: Will Sony Be Scared of the Xbox Scorpio?

Shellcore

I'm glad that Microsoft have pushed forward specs wise. However, I believe they will fall into the same pit as the PS4 Pro as (as far as I am aware) no game can come out for either that isn't somehow scalable for the base system. This, in itself, will probably lead developers to nerf their games to run at PS4 Pro levels max, rather than have effectively three versions of each game. To be honest, I don't like this mid gen refresh. It's confusing and annoying for me as I don't feel I am getting the best experience I can from my console (base console owner here), but don't want to cough up for both a pro and 4k screen. Conundrum!

Re: Poll: Are You Enjoying Nioh on PS4?

Shellcore

Really enjoying it. One of the parts I enjoy is that the game can be completed by anyone and also reward players that would like to suffer a bit more. The co-op is great and the etiquette shown by other players makes me smile (bowing before questing). Also, buried in the records menu are additional challenges for more "hardcore" players, such as defeating some bosses solo, multiple times and without armour. Excellent.

Re: Don't Expect Our For Honor PS4 Review Until After Launch

Shellcore

@Kingclinhyde I played the alpha, beta and last chance demo of Nioh. Still wanted to see the reviews to ensure that the quality is consistant throughout the game. Ubisoft "could" choose to show only the most polished portion of the game in the beta, therefore giving the consumer a skewed outlook on the game. I understand that everyone likes different things, however this is a different issue. Reviews before launch are consumer friendly and in our best interest. Ubisoft doesn't trust their products to review well, so put reviews on lockdown. Don't cheerlead this awful practise.

Re: Nioh Co-Op Gameplay Shows the Benefits of Teaming Up

Shellcore

@B-I-G-DEVIL There's another mode that allows you to play with a friend like this. Not many people discovered it, but it is available in the last chance demo. Not sure if you both have to had cleared the mission, but you can start together with a friend, share a bar which depletes when you die, but can be halted if you are revived quickly.

Re: Nioh Co-Op Gameplay Shows the Benefits of Teaming Up

Shellcore

@B-I-G-DEVIL That's correct. I like the system. Beat the level (possibly with the aid of another) then return to help others. For those who would like a helping hand, it removes potential barriers to seeing all the game has to offer.

Edit: I guess the thought behind this system is down to the limited times you can summon before you have to farm revenants for more cups. I would be gutted using one of those items only to summon another player who is just as ineffective as I am.

Re: Here's Your Reminder That Nioh's Last Chance Trial Is Now Live on PS4

Shellcore

Enjoyed the last chance demo and the social nature of the co-op elements. It's almost like some people grind, get through the level and then allow themselves to be summoned to help weaker players through the game, who then themselves return the favour to the next draft of weaker players. The loot element also helps replayability. My only negative is that the environments are a little bland at the moment.

Re: Nioh Offers Final Free PS4 Demo Before Launch This Weekend

Shellcore

The name "Last Trial" certainly resonates after completing the Alpha and Beta demos. For those wanting to complete the demo and worried about time - make use of summoning higher level players to help with the tougher parts. For the summoned players, they receive a reward for completing the level, so are incentivised to make sure you do well!

Re: Talking Point: What's Your PlayStation VR Launch Experience Been Like?

Shellcore

@glassmusic As above, I recognised in my comment that I was being negative. This article is about how our PS VR launch experience went. Buying it wasn't a prerequisite to comment. I tried it at the Sony Roadshow and it wasn't for me. My expectations were higher. The majority of the people on here I imagine don't intend to sully your own positive experience. In fact, I am happy that so many seem to be enjoying the experience. However, potential customers giving feedback as to why they have not yet bought in can only be a valuable resource. Sony would surely kill to have that insight!
