Our old buddy Arekkz has posted new gameplay footage for ANTHEM, this time detailing some of the title's 'freeplay' elements. As reported previously, when you're not on a dedicated mission, you can leave your hub at Fort Tarsis and explore the game's world at your leisure. BioWare has said that in doing so, you may come across live events, dynamic battles, and, of course, some nice loot.
This video shows off some of those events, as players scramble to defeat a dangerous foe or band together with non-playable characters to fight off waves of enemies. We reckon the combat's looking pretty sharp, but only time will tell whether these events will lose their edge if they're frequently stumbled upon. Hopefully there's a good amount of variety in the finished release.

I'm really looking forward to giving the demo/beta a shot this weekend.
It looks really slick, I hope there's loads of diversity in the missions.
@Rick_Deckard like Captura in Warframe? I guess if we keep on at the devs enough if it's not something that's there at the moment they could add it, it'd be a good addition. Watching the dev streams they seem open to ideas.
There is only so much you can do in terms of diversity that keeps people engaged.
It’s easy to critique a game to not have much diversity, but difficult to actually give ideas about how it could be made better.
That’s why I personally think that what I have seen from Anthem is enough. You can’t just keep expecting more and more, leading to unrealistic expectations.
@tatsumi I agree. Similar games such as Warframe, Destiny and The Division didn't really diverge from the "go here, shoot that thing" mechanic. I think we all know what this game is now, such the question should be more "Is the combat mechanic fun?" and is the core gameplay loop addictive. No-one complains about Monster Hunter World lacking diversity as the core gameplay is excellent.
remember when patrick soderland was saying this was going to be unlike anything we've ever seen before?. this is like a lot of stuff i've seen before.. much like a lot of the other games some have mentioned, this just looks like tedious padding, especially if you've to do this kind of stuff to level up enough to tackle actual missions. it seems to me like EA is going all out to try and drum up as much interest in this as it can before launch, you can already pre-order it for pretty much half-price.
@shellcore MHW might have less maps than destiny etc., but I think there is more diversity in it.
Beside the (much more) different weapon-types and armor combination (and decoration etc., set-boni ....) with hunting and capturing monsters you even have different "side-quests", like fishing, befriending wild palicos, capturing smaller animals etc.
This is much more than destiny & co. seem to have .. at least to me.
And I had nearly 800h in D1 and too many in D2
What I most dislike from anthem yet is that the "bosses" seem to be very static, they are nearly not changing position or move just a few steps. That is like the "tanks" in Destiny, but at least in Destiny are bosses which can move and do it. That might mean all bosses or bigger enemies are just bullet-sponges.
That would be very sad.
@leucocyte I feel what makes monster hunter great is that you have to learn each monster and its weakness and attacks etc. A lot of destiny and the division was just shoot the boss. Which was fun but got old.
