Re: Hogwarts Legacy Conjures a Staggering 22 Million Sales

RudeAnimat0r

I'm not surprised it's been such a hit. By all accounts it's a solid, if not spectacular, open world game based on one of the most popular IPs in the world. It also has a great baked in premise of going to a magical school.

I'll admit to even wanting to check it out myself, but between JK and general open world fatigue, along with HP fatigue, I just don't think I care much.

Re: Game of the Year: #1 - Marvel's Spider-Man 2

RudeAnimat0r

I haven't played Spider-Man 2 yet, but this outcome doesn't surprise me. This is a PlayStation site and it doesn't get more PlayStation-y than a first-party exclusive.

I used to write for a gaming site and the staff vote is a good but flawed arrangement. All staff will never play every game, but I'm sure every staff member played Spider-Man 2.

I'm glad people enjoyed it and I hope to enjoy it whenever I get around to it

Re: Critical Darling Alan Wake 2's Sales Seem Soft, But There's More to the Story

RudeAnimat0r

I'm not concerned. If they've sold 850k on console already that's likely outpacing Control, and not including PC sales - yes, Epic only.

It's a sequel to a niche game that came out a decade ago. It's also a plodding survival horror game that is not easy to market or explain, that basically requires knowledge of the og.

I loved AW2. It's right there with a few others for GOTY, but this was never going to be an immediate smash hit - and let's be honest, 2m for Control isn't exactly a staggering figure. It's all relative.

Re: Could Marvel's Blade Come to PS5? Bethesda Declines to Comment

RudeAnimat0r

@tameshiyaku This is specifically Machine Games, the Wolfenstein folks. I'd expect to see it unveiled in 2024.

I mean if Blade comes to PlayStation, cool. What I'd rather talk about is wasting Arkane's talents on a Marvel game. I have to wonder if they were mandated to do so because they consistently make great games - Redfall withstanding - that never seem to be big hits.

I guess if making a Marvel game gers people excited about Arkane then so be it. But they were one of the few AAA devs consistently making new and interesting IP, or at least reinventing them, like with Prey.

I'm sure they can make an awesome Blade, and if it's on platform I own I'll play it.

Re: Best Yakuza / Like a Dragon Games Ranked: Which Yakuza Games to Play and Where to Start

RudeAnimat0r

Man, how you not going to list Yakuza 1 and 2 og for games to have played? I've never played Kiwami, but I definitely played the PS2 games.

Also, I know they weren't released in the West, but shout outs to Kenzan and Black Panther 1 and 2.

I'm playing Like a Dragon now and it's rhe first one I've really gotten into since PS2. I might try and give Zero another shot, plus I'm interested in Ishin and Song of Life. We'll see!

Re: Court Rules £5 Billion Lawsuit Against Sony Can Go Ahead, Following Years of 'Excessive' PS Store Prices

RudeAnimat0r

I hate to be the person defending the mega corporation, but I frankly don't understand this lawsuit. What exactly is excessively priced? I agree that non-game content is often excessively priced - I'm looking at you TMNT avatar skins in SF6 - but like anything else, these are prices set by publishers, not the platform holder. If the argument is Sony taking their 30% cut is making content too expensive, then that is assuming that publishers and developers will move that savings on to consumers, which is both a huge assumption and likely flat out untrue - we can look at Epic Games Store, and for the most part the games are priced the same as Steam (Epic takes 12%, I think).

On top of all of this, and as mentioned by other commenters, games are expensive to make. I won't pretend to know how expensive they are to make and market, and despite that they are often cheaper than they were 20 years ago when you adjust for inflation. So add-on content is expensive, I think it's annoying, but I don't know if that's where the actual profits are.

Re: PS Plus Subscriptions on Sale Now, But There's a Big Catch

RudeAnimat0r

Can't seem to find a way to extend my Extra sub with a discounted rate - went to sub management and it said it was $135.
If I can't add time with a discount that's a major bummer. I like Extra and I don't think $135 is unreasonable, but it might be more than I'm willing to spend year in and out.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PS Portal?

RudeAnimat0r

I tried remote play once and it was not a good enough connection for play. I think it's a fool feature conceptually but I just doubt I'll ever have a good enough connection to enjoy it.

Re: Suicide Squad Returns with All-New PS5 Gameplay

RudeAnimat0r

I think it looks alright, but largely not a game type or property I'm interested in. Can't see myself playing this unless it gets great reviews and it's either $15 or free in 2 years.

For context I didn't even like Arkham City since I was bummed Rocksteady went open world. Asylum was an almost perfect game to me with no modern bloat.
