I'm not surprised it's been such a hit. By all accounts it's a solid, if not spectacular, open world game based on one of the most popular IPs in the world. It also has a great baked in premise of going to a magical school.
I'll admit to even wanting to check it out myself, but between JK and general open world fatigue, along with HP fatigue, I just don't think I care much.
Definitely going to play this, but definitely waiting to play it later on. Just finished Like a Dragon and do not have it in me to start another of these games.
I haven't played Spider-Man 2 yet, but this outcome doesn't surprise me. This is a PlayStation site and it doesn't get more PlayStation-y than a first-party exclusive.
I used to write for a gaming site and the staff vote is a good but flawed arrangement. All staff will never play every game, but I'm sure every staff member played Spider-Man 2.
I'm glad people enjoyed it and I hope to enjoy it whenever I get around to it
I'm not concerned. If they've sold 850k on console already that's likely outpacing Control, and not including PC sales - yes, Epic only.
It's a sequel to a niche game that came out a decade ago. It's also a plodding survival horror game that is not easy to market or explain, that basically requires knowledge of the og.
I loved AW2. It's right there with a few others for GOTY, but this was never going to be an immediate smash hit - and let's be honest, 2m for Control isn't exactly a staggering figure. It's all relative.
@tameshiyaku This is specifically Machine Games, the Wolfenstein folks. I'd expect to see it unveiled in 2024.
I mean if Blade comes to PlayStation, cool. What I'd rather talk about is wasting Arkane's talents on a Marvel game. I have to wonder if they were mandated to do so because they consistently make great games - Redfall withstanding - that never seem to be big hits.
I guess if making a Marvel game gers people excited about Arkane then so be it. But they were one of the few AAA devs consistently making new and interesting IP, or at least reinventing them, like with Prey.
I'm sure they can make an awesome Blade, and if it's on platform I own I'll play it.
I actually remember Slave Zero on Dreamcast. I wondered if it was related when I saw the name, then I saw the game and assumed not, and now know I'm wrong.
Seems like maybe they should port the DC game as well?
I'm happy to check out Sable. If there's one game I want to play I call it a win, because the games most people get excited about don't interest me in the slightest.
I don't really think this is news. The statements don't even conflict with one another. One says they "want" Game Pass everywhere and the other says there are "no plans" for it on PlayStation or Nintendo. That doesn't mean Spencer doesn't want it on them.
Man, it's hard to imagine a market for Tribes anymore, but best of luck to them. I played a decent amount of Tribes and Tribes 2 on PC and there really wasn't anything quite like it.
Looks alright, I'll have to see how it reviews. I didn't get far with the first, I found it pretty generic and boring and just gave up after a handful of hours.
Man, how you not going to list Yakuza 1 and 2 og for games to have played? I've never played Kiwami, but I definitely played the PS2 games.
Also, I know they weren't released in the West, but shout outs to Kenzan and Black Panther 1 and 2.
I'm playing Like a Dragon now and it's rhe first one I've really gotten into since PS2. I might try and give Zero another shot, plus I'm interested in Ishin and Song of Life. We'll see!
Ah, I'm glad people mentioned Like a Dragon was on Essential at some point, hopefully I redeemed it! I'm currently playing it and am probably 40% of the way through, so finishing it in a couple more weeks might be a tall ask
I also have no idea what it's like in Europe, but at least in the US, the federal minimum wage hasn't been raised in decades. So wage growth has not kept up with inflation and cost of living.
I hate to be the person defending the mega corporation, but I frankly don't understand this lawsuit. What exactly is excessively priced? I agree that non-game content is often excessively priced - I'm looking at you TMNT avatar skins in SF6 - but like anything else, these are prices set by publishers, not the platform holder. If the argument is Sony taking their 30% cut is making content too expensive, then that is assuming that publishers and developers will move that savings on to consumers, which is both a huge assumption and likely flat out untrue - we can look at Epic Games Store, and for the most part the games are priced the same as Steam (Epic takes 12%, I think).
On top of all of this, and as mentioned by other commenters, games are expensive to make. I won't pretend to know how expensive they are to make and market, and despite that they are often cheaper than they were 20 years ago when you adjust for inflation. So add-on content is expensive, I think it's annoying, but I don't know if that's where the actual profits are.
Can't seem to find a way to extend my Extra sub with a discounted rate - went to sub management and it said it was $135. If I can't add time with a discount that's a major bummer. I like Extra and I don't think $135 is unreasonable, but it might be more than I'm willing to spend year in and out.
I tried remote play once and it was not a good enough connection for play. I think it's a fool feature conceptually but I just doubt I'll ever have a good enough connection to enjoy it.
I think it looks alright, but largely not a game type or property I'm interested in. Can't see myself playing this unless it gets great reviews and it's either $15 or free in 2 years.
For context I didn't even like Arkham City since I was bummed Rocksteady went open world. Asylum was an almost perfect game to me with no modern bloat.

Re: Preview: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Is the First PS5 Must-Play of 2024
Definitely going to play this, but definitely waiting to play it later on. Just finished Like a Dragon and do not have it in me to start another of these games.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for January 2024?
Already have Nobody Saves the World, which is a fun game. Super pumped for Plague Tale though, had been waiting for a deep discount.
Re: PS Plus Essential Games for January 2024 Announced
Yes, have been wanting to play Plague Tale 2. That'll be my first new game 2024.
Re: One of PS5's Most Promising Action RPGs Is Getting a Playable Demo in January
Definitely would like to check a demo out for this. I'm looking forward to it but also am unlikely to shell out full MSRP for it.
Re: Game of the Year: Scott's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2023
You have refined tastes, sir. I feel like SF6 kind of got shafted for GotY consideration, although it's probably #3 on my personal list
Re: Game of the Year: Simon's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2023
A refreshing list. I'm really intrigued in that Sennaar. One of the Nintendo Life staff was also singing its praise.
I've only played Sea of Stars of your offerings, although I have plans on playing Blasphemous 2 down the road - I enjoyed the original.
Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Wins Big in PS Blog Awards, Including PS5 Game of the Year
There's no surprise here. PS Blog GOTY is always a first-party popularity contest.
Re: Sony Officially Confirms PS5 Has Passed the 50 Million Units Milestone
Good for them. Now please release more first-party titles.
Re: Mini Review: Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising (PS5) - Re-Released, Rollback Fighter Is Top Tier
I really enjoyed the first release so am excited about this, but probably not jumping in at full price.
Re: The Last of Us Multiplayer Project Is Officially Cancelled
This is a major bummer. I really enjoyed Factions and was always anxious to see the mode expanded.
I'm glad they decided not to be Live Service studio, but it seems like there must have been an option between the two extremes.

Yah, not sure I'd try this even for free.
Re: Poll: What's Your Most Anticipated PS5 Game of 2024?
Plucky Squire!! Really can't wait to play that.

Re: Atlus Fans Will Want to Watch The Game Awards for an Update on PS5, PS4's Metaphor: ReFantazio
One of my most anticipated games of next year. So excited for Atlus to be launching a new IP.
Re: Holstin's Unique Camera System Offers a Fresh Perspective on Survival Horror
Looks really unique. Very interested in this.
Re: Fallout: New Vegas Vibes Front New Fallout 76 Content
I keep thinking I should pop back into this to see how it's changed. I was close to the Platinum when Wastelanders came out.
I think it's a solid if unremarkable game. In some ways I like it more than 4, which I wasn't especially fond of.
Re: Fantastic Looking Action Slasher Slave Zero X Snags Top Voice Talent Ahead of February PS5, PS4 Release

Seems like maybe they should port the DC game as well?
Re: GTA 6 Trailer Out Now, 2025 Release Window Revealed
Not a GTA fan, but could see myself buying this just to experience the world. It looks expensive af
Re: Free Avatars, PS Stars Points, PS5 to Win in PS Plus Season of Play
I'm going to try Sable so I guess I'm getting me some points.
Re: Poll: What Is Your PS5, PS4 Game of the Year 2023?
Sea of Stars, Alan Wake, Street Fighter, Baldur's Gate, Humanity
It's been a good year.
Re: SEGA Bringing 'New Era, New Energy' to The Game Awards
I mean I guess it could be VF6. That doesn't scream new era to me, but Sega is pretty mercurial when it isn't Yakuza or Sonic.
I have no idea how that Ultimate Showdown version did for 5. I played it for a minute. It was fun but also still felt very dated in some ways.
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for December 2023?

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1 Adds Metro System, On-Person Radio, Car Races, and Much More
@TrannosaurusBex yup, I have a pretty modest sized TV and the font sizes plus the UI are really not great.
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1 Adds Metro System, On-Person Radio, Car Races, and Much More
Thank God, finally larger font sizes! (Not even vaguely joking)
Re: Weird and Wonderful PS5 Road Trip Title Pacific Drive Arrives in February
Very intrigued by this. I could see getting this at launch if it's priced right and gets solid reviews.
Re: Microsoft Still Wants to Put Xbox Game Pass on PS5, PS4
I'm not actively against it, but frankly I'd prefer native versions of Microsoft published games, even if they came out a year later.
Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Update 5 May Require a Massive Re-Download
Ugggggghhhhhh. Time to temporarily delete some stuff.
Re: Time to Go Mobile with High-Octane Tribes 3: Rivals Official Gameplay

Shazbot!
Re: PS Plus Essential Games for December 2023 Announced
Very excited to check out Sable. I might try Power Wash just because so many people have said it's fun. No interest at all in Lego Drive.
Re: Stylish Metroidvania Cookie Cutter Announced and Dated for PS5
Animation is awesome. Curious!
Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Still Looks Fantastic on PS5, March 2024 Release Date Confirmed
Looks alright, I'll have to see how it reviews. I didn't get far with the first, I found it pretty generic and boring and just gave up after a handful of hours.
Re: Fallout TV Series Images, Plot Details Revealed, Out in April 2024
Very excited about this.
Re: Life is Strange Crosses Hella Impressive 20 Million Player Mark
I adored the first LiS. It was the perfect little indie adventure game at the right time.
I enjoyed Before the Storm and I'm currently working through 2 - it's good but it hasn't quite hooked me yet.

Re: Court Rules £5 Billion Lawsuit Against Sony Can Go Ahead, Following Years of 'Excessive' PS Store Prices
@DaniPooo Well I kind of meant wages, I know inflation is bad. I have no idea if wages in Europe have been climbing steadily over the years or not.

Re: Feature: Celebrating 10 Years of PS4 with Our Favourite Games
Shoutout to Resogun. Surprised NieR Automata didn't make anyone's lists.
Re: The Last of Us 2 PS5 Remaster Leaks, Has a Brand New Survival Mode, Cut Levels
This is a great game that I don't feel like I need to revisit yet, and if I did I would just play my PS4 version.
Just waiting for something new of substance from 1st party...
