Re: Opinion: The Price of Playing PS5 Games Day One Is Getting Higher and Higher

RudeAnimat0r

If it was a game I was dying to play and it was a sizable pre-launch window, maaaaaybe? Like I could only imagine it for like a Street Fighter game for me. Otherwise, I don't buy games at launch, so this doesn't effect me.

Honestly, as icky as this stuff is, maybe it's better for most consumers? I feel like if publishers don't find ways to sneakily get more money out that actual MSRPs at launch will rise again, sooner than later. People are already speculating GTA6 might be $80 at launch, period.

If some whales want to pay $100 to play a game a couple days early and it let's me pay significantly less for basically the same experience... I'm okay with that.

Re: Fortnite's Rocket Racing Seems to Be Running Out of Gas on PS5, PS4

RudeAnimat0r

@get2sammyb Well the first reason is Fortnite (checks PS Store) requires 96gb on space. I have a stock hard disk and don't want to tie up that much space. Second, I'm not interested in live service at all - I get these new games are distinct of Fortnite, but they're still designed to be engaged with longterm. Last, I think the other thing about Festival is I don't have instruments, I don't have a gaggle of close by late 20-something friends to play with in the same room anymore either. I loved that Rock Band experience years ago, and maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think I'm in a place in my life to have that experience anymore, easily.

Also, I'll take Amplitude over Rock Band too

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero?

RudeAnimat0r

I played a little of one of the Budokai games way back, but I don't know, I just never liked how they played. I think if you have a history of playing "traditional" fighting games it can sometimes be hard to get into games like these.

I actually had a lot of fun with Super Dragon Ball Z back on the PS2. I know it was not all that popular compared to Budokai. It was much less flashy but it controlled like a Street Fighter game and was made by an SF2 designer.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for October 2024?

RudeAnimat0r

I started Dead Space yesterday. Was on my list of games to check out eventually, and this was a nice spooky season treat.

I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm also seeing how quaint it feels compared to modern games. I adored it when I played it on PS3, so I'm curious to see how it's changed.

I might try Doki Doki. I've never played a visual novel, though I know this one is supposed to be pretty subversive, so I'm curious.

Re: Report Finds Lack of Star Wars Outlaws Sales Disturbing

RudeAnimat0r

I'd still like to play it, but I just rarely buy games at launch. It's not necessarily because I know it will go on sale, it's just $70 is a lot for a game, period. (Even if it's totally fair in terms of economics)

I can't put my finger on why Outlaws didn't breakout more. Certainly some fans were off put by the female protagonist, some people might have decided to wait, some people lost interest from the good-not-great reviews. I think it's many little things.

I hope Ubisoft turns it around and Outlaws is a success for them. As much flak as they get, the industry would be worse off if they got gobbled up by someone else.

Re: Ever-Evolving, Live Service Experiences Like Fortnite Are 'the Future of Gaming'

RudeAnimat0r

Fortnite is ancient now, so I would argue it's the present of gaming, not the future. I also agree with the sentiment that there can only be so many games that exist in this space. Traditional SP may get rarer and rarer, but as long as budgets take into account the smaller player base there isn't a reason they can't continue to be made. It's all about what you want out of gaming.

Re: Explore Hell Is Us PS5 in Extensive Developer-Led Gameplay Trailer

RudeAnimat0r

I thought the SoP trailer was great and then researching it, I found out about JJB being the creative director. That sold me on it. He was the art director on Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

This longer look was ok. I think the exploration is hard to demo in an interesting way. I also think it's kind of silly to say some games silver platter things and then his game has a dude tell you follow wind chimes and then there is a yellow brick road of wind chimes

Regardless, I'm intrigued about this and excited to see what they come up with.

Re: Hideo Kojima's Dream of Breaking into Hollywood Is Nearly a Reality

RudeAnimat0r

I enjoy Kojima, probably not as much as some, but the idea of him making movies, etc. is not that exciting to me. Others have said this already but his dialogue is awful. His stories are weird and intriguing, but he can't (or won't?) seem to create scenes where characters have a normal sounding conversation. Someone mentioned everything is monologuing and that's definitely part of it.

One of the reasons I never finished Death Stranding was watching Sam interact with those damn holograms. I think part of that was budgetary issues, but geez, there is no sense of interaction between the actors. They exist in their own void.

Re: PS5's Ghost of Yotei Triggers Social Media, Ex-Sony Exec Says 'If You Don't Like It, Don't Buy It'

RudeAnimat0r

Jin's story was over. Narratively and thematically I don't even know where they would go with him.

I have no problem with a new protagonist or it being a woman. All I care about is whether Yötei is a better open world game. I adored GoT by the end, but it through and through an open world game by the Ubisoft book with Sucker Punch's flair. I want to see honest evolution of the genre. This is the exact reason I never finished Forbidden West: too big, too much of the same.

Re: RPG Fans Rejoice! Metaphor: ReFantazio PS5, PS4 Demo Seems Inevitable

RudeAnimat0r

I'm basically sold on the game already, so I don't think I'd want to play a chunk of it out context, nor would I really want to play the opening only to have to wait to continue the game - assuming progress carried over. So I guess I'd skip it?

I'm not sure if I am getting the game at launch. I rarely buy games at full MSRP, so I might not start it until Christmas.

Re: Sony Priming 'Even Less Exciting' PS5 Remaster for State of Play

RudeAnimat0r

The perception isn't that none of Sony's first parties have nothing cooking. The reality is new, prestige, AAA single-player games take 5+ years to make and the life cycle of a console isn't a whole lot longer.

I used to be able to say I bought PlayStation for titles from certain developers, but the best you can hope for now is ONE original title per generation, it seems. It isn't a perception issue, it's a logistics and scope issue.

Re: PS5 Exclusives Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Failed to Meet Expectations

RudeAnimat0r

Sure, more formats will help FF sell more units, but the bigger issue is an overall brand issue, IMO. The games are stupidly expensive to make and regardless of whether they change the tone and core gameplay, ie. FF16, it's still a Japanese fantasy series that either doesn't appeal to everyone or is impenetrable or just the words Final Fantasy puts someone off.

I think the first thing they need to do is scale back their relentless pursuit of zomg graphics. This would allow them to be on Nintendo platforms, with mainline entries, save them money, and actually be where Japanese gamers are. Dragon Quest still sells gangbusters over there, and it is at least partly because most entries are on Nintendo hardware - plus, eventhough they still take years to make, they must be cheaper!

And for context, I haven't bought either Remake or Rebirth - I played Remake on Plus and loved it. I was really hype for Rebirth, and considered buying close to launch until every review mentioned open world bloat and I lost basically all interest - I still have it on my sale watch list and maybe I'll bite at Black Friday. As for 16, the style always looked dull and barely FF to me and the gameplay continues to stray so far from what I want out of FF that I was never interested a lick.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation Needs to Take a Long, Hard Look at Itself

RudeAnimat0r

@Maubari Foamstars was a Squeenix game, one that I suspect Sony took a chance on, hoping it could be their Splatoon.

Sony is a company. Their legacy is whatever people choose to remember about them. Their legacy could still be the PS3 launching for $600 and being impossible to program for.

Every platform holder makes huge gaffes. It basically runs in cycles, ie. the WiiU, or Xbone "game sharing". The point is, I think anyone being overly invested in this or Sony's "legacy" is silly

Although, after that response, I guess I'm silly too 🤪

Re: Reaction: PlayStation Needs to Take a Long, Hard Look at Itself

RudeAnimat0r

Soul searching? It's a video game!

Sure, Sony needs to consider the direction of their MP live service initiative, but I guess I just don't care about this all that much? They payed for and released a dud. It happens, they hopefully learn, and we move on?

I think it's ridiculous talking about their legacy forever being tarnished. Every dev and publisher has their share of bombs, deserving or not - most of the reviews seemed to think Concord was more fine, than awful.

Last, I just can't get worked up about Sony that much. Concord and Fairgame$ and Marathon and Helldivers 2 are not the reason we don't have more singleplayer games. It's because Sony's teams are perfectionists and their dev cycles are like 5 years now. They need to revise the scope of their internal games.

Re: Internal Sony Fairgame$ Chatter Is Reportedly Quite Positive

RudeAnimat0r

It could be an awesome game, but I think most importantly Sony will need to do a lot of heavy lifting communicating why it's awesome, and why someone should play it versus the other live service shooter you've already got 300 hours in.

I'd love to see them succeed, but I'm not personally invested. I'm just not interested live service shooters. I want new experiences on the regular.

Re: How Much Would You Pay for Your PS5 Games? Dev Says Industry Is Waiting for GTA 6 to Hike Prices

RudeAnimat0r

I don't get mad about games being expensive because I understand they are increasingly expensive to make. But I rarely buy $70 games, in fact I think BG3 is the only game I've bought for that price. So I just can't envision myself buying any games for more, other than maybe Street Fighter, which I'm always at on Day One.

I think the more important argument is devs need to scale back and really look at viability. If your game is too big to fail, maybe it's too big?
