Re: Square Enix Wonders Why Life is Strange: Double Exposure Didn't Work Out

RudeAnimat0r

I'm a fan of the series, but I've never bought any of the games at launch or for full price.

I'll admit, I think I was overly harsh on Double Exposure from announcement trailers. I thought returning to Max was motivated primarily by trying to make the franchise popular again and $$$. It just seemed a bit cynical to return to Max when the series has predominantly been an anthology series, which I think is one of its strengths.

I haven't finished LiS2 despite thinking it was pretty good and never even started True Colors. My problem, personally, is I really have to be craving that type of game and I just haven't been wanting that type of adventure game.

Re: Talking Point: Is PlayStation Right in Saying PC Isn't a 'Major Risk' to Console Business?

RudeAnimat0r

The only way I see PC cutting into PS market is if each subsequent PS gets closer in price to a PC. Like this is one of the reasons I don't personally get PS5 Pro. At that price you are starting to get into PC range - obviously not a high end right, but something that could run most stuff adequately.

And as people have said, consoles just offer a different experience. I don't see that changing significantly, unless someone makes a Switch-like PC that is easy to connect to your TV, very user friendly, and still be used as a dedicated PC.

Re: EA Shot Down Creators' Dead Space 4 Pitch in 2024

RudeAnimat0r

DS3 wasn't abysmal, IMO. It was a definite misfire, but I played it through.

I played DSR and I don't know whether I want more Dead Space. It's still a great game, but it's also a bit quaint and dated in a lot of ways and the writing is pretty ham fisted. Maybe a new DS improves a lot of that, but I doubt it.

Re: Unknown 9: Awakening Dev Reflector Entertainment Confirms Round of Layoffs

RudeAnimat0r

I'd already forgotten the game came out, tbh. The fact your review called it old school was pretty appealing, but I'm still unlikely to buy almost any game at launch, even if it's not asking for full price.

I think the market is so over saturated that games like this will always struggle to find an audience. It doesn't help that it has a very generic name, the art design isn't particularly eye catching and has the added complexity of explaining itself a cross media property no one has heard of.

With all that said, layoffs suck. Sorry to see people let go over years of work.

Re: Australia's Planned Social Media Ban to Include PSN

RudeAnimat0r

I don't know much about Australian news/politics, as an American, but I'd agree that this seems impossible to enforce and an overreach. I'm a parent, although my child is still a bit young, he does use YouTubeKids once in a while.

I think there is a lot of danger in social media, but I would agree with the a few of the commenter's that better moderation is where to start. I know I spend more time than I would like scrolling Facebook and Instagram, but as had also been said, you can't put that genie back in the bottle.

We can't restrict kids from accessing social media - I mean, based on that limited definition, this comment section is social media, is it not? The best we can strive for is cleaning it up, policing it and finding better strategies for how they access it. I know easier said than done, but this is not an all or nothing scenario.

Re: Sony Adopting 'Show Don't Tell' Strategy with PS5

RudeAnimat0r

It doesn't matter who's behind the game!? I get the product is the forward facing aspect of the business of gaming, but telling that games story is sometimes just as important.

Like Concord is a great example. I doubt if we had seen more of Firesprite it would have made a difference, but the game was announced, went dark, came back with a few months of uninspiring marketing and then died.

Re: Rumour: Rayman Remake in Development, Former Prince of Persia Devs Involved

RudeAnimat0r

I never played the og, just 2 and Origins/Legends. I can't imagine if they remade the first that it would really resemble that game at all afterwards. The series has come a long way since then.

I guess I also am a bit skeptical of this story though. Is Rayman a good seller!? I know we got Legends after Origins, but I at least figured it made sense to use the engine again. Never seemed like Origins was a hit? I loved it, so I'm glad it must have done okay.

Re: Ubisoft Disbands Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Team After Poor Sales, Claims Report

RudeAnimat0r

This isn't vaguely surprising to me, that it wasn't a commercial hit and that Ubisoft is disbanding the team. PoP is kind of a niche franchise to begin with, so I can't imagine this game ever being a big hit. I'm always curious what the numbers actually are - sales and their internal target.

For what it's worth I didn't buy this game - I actually checked it out from my library and beat it in 2 weeks. But I will say I absolutely loved it, and may buy a copy to stick on my shelf at some point.

I highly recommend it to anyway curious about it.

Re: Opinion: The Price of Playing PS5 Games Day One Is Getting Higher and Higher

RudeAnimat0r

If it was a game I was dying to play and it was a sizable pre-launch window, maaaaaybe? Like I could only imagine it for like a Street Fighter game for me. Otherwise, I don't buy games at launch, so this doesn't effect me.

Honestly, as icky as this stuff is, maybe it's better for most consumers? I feel like if publishers don't find ways to sneakily get more money out that actual MSRPs at launch will rise again, sooner than later. People are already speculating GTA6 might be $80 at launch, period.

If some whales want to pay $100 to play a game a couple days early and it let's me pay significantly less for basically the same experience... I'm okay with that.

Re: Fortnite's Rocket Racing Seems to Be Running Out of Gas on PS5, PS4

RudeAnimat0r

@get2sammyb Well the first reason is Fortnite (checks PS Store) requires 96gb on space. I have a stock hard disk and don't want to tie up that much space. Second, I'm not interested in live service at all - I get these new games are distinct of Fortnite, but they're still designed to be engaged with longterm. Last, I think the other thing about Festival is I don't have instruments, I don't have a gaggle of close by late 20-something friends to play with in the same room anymore either. I loved that Rock Band experience years ago, and maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think I'm in a place in my life to have that experience anymore, easily.

Also, I'll take Amplitude over Rock Band too

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero?

RudeAnimat0r

I played a little of one of the Budokai games way back, but I don't know, I just never liked how they played. I think if you have a history of playing "traditional" fighting games it can sometimes be hard to get into games like these.

I actually had a lot of fun with Super Dragon Ball Z back on the PS2. I know it was not all that popular compared to Budokai. It was much less flashy but it controlled like a Street Fighter game and was made by an SF2 designer.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for October 2024?

RudeAnimat0r

I started Dead Space yesterday. Was on my list of games to check out eventually, and this was a nice spooky season treat.

I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm also seeing how quaint it feels compared to modern games. I adored it when I played it on PS3, so I'm curious to see how it's changed.

I might try Doki Doki. I've never played a visual novel, though I know this one is supposed to be pretty subversive, so I'm curious.

Re: Report Finds Lack of Star Wars Outlaws Sales Disturbing

RudeAnimat0r

I'd still like to play it, but I just rarely buy games at launch. It's not necessarily because I know it will go on sale, it's just $70 is a lot for a game, period. (Even if it's totally fair in terms of economics)

I can't put my finger on why Outlaws didn't breakout more. Certainly some fans were off put by the female protagonist, some people might have decided to wait, some people lost interest from the good-not-great reviews. I think it's many little things.

I hope Ubisoft turns it around and Outlaws is a success for them. As much flak as they get, the industry would be worse off if they got gobbled up by someone else.

Re: Ever-Evolving, Live Service Experiences Like Fortnite Are 'the Future of Gaming'

RudeAnimat0r

Fortnite is ancient now, so I would argue it's the present of gaming, not the future. I also agree with the sentiment that there can only be so many games that exist in this space. Traditional SP may get rarer and rarer, but as long as budgets take into account the smaller player base there isn't a reason they can't continue to be made. It's all about what you want out of gaming.

Re: Explore Hell Is Us PS5 in Extensive Developer-Led Gameplay Trailer

RudeAnimat0r

I thought the SoP trailer was great and then researching it, I found out about JJB being the creative director. That sold me on it. He was the art director on Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

This longer look was ok. I think the exploration is hard to demo in an interesting way. I also think it's kind of silly to say some games silver platter things and then his game has a dude tell you follow wind chimes and then there is a yellow brick road of wind chimes

Regardless, I'm intrigued about this and excited to see what they come up with.

Re: Hideo Kojima's Dream of Breaking into Hollywood Is Nearly a Reality

RudeAnimat0r

I enjoy Kojima, probably not as much as some, but the idea of him making movies, etc. is not that exciting to me. Others have said this already but his dialogue is awful. His stories are weird and intriguing, but he can't (or won't?) seem to create scenes where characters have a normal sounding conversation. Someone mentioned everything is monologuing and that's definitely part of it.

One of the reasons I never finished Death Stranding was watching Sam interact with those damn holograms. I think part of that was budgetary issues, but geez, there is no sense of interaction between the actors. They exist in their own void.
