I mean, I think he's right that there might be some course correction on certain developers, realizing the cannot risk making AAA games anymore. However, I don't see these AA costing a whole lot less. Don't Nod considers themselves AA and Banishers is $60 - not commenting on whether that is a good price for it or not.
But there is no way $70, or whatever the premium price point is is going away. I can't see $80 until the next generation, but it's certainly possible. Development costs more and the same audience buys the game.
Probably skip all of these. I think Immortals is a nice type of game to throw on Plus, but it looks so generic to me, I have literally no interest in it at all.
I'm not into Minecraft at all, so a spinoff of that is meh.
Skul looks kind of neat and has good reviews, but I still haven't finished Rogue Legacy 2, so I just don't think I want another platforming rogue-lite to play.
I played a little bit of it. Seems alright, I definitely wasn't blown away. I'll check out reviews and if it's well received I'll keep an eye out for it down the road.
I haven't finished BG3 yet, but I'm happy to see them continue to do their own thing. I'd be happy with a third Original Sin game or a new IP entirely.
Got the Haven platinum over the weekend. Absolutely adored it, was a very refreshing experience.
I also got the Ghostwite platinum a while back. I thought it was a pretty cool game that has a bit too much open world bloat, or needed a little more variety in activities.
Played some Tchia and Outer Wilds too. Both seemed really cool but neither totally hooked me.
Really not interested in Team Ninja going open world. I'm not a huge fan of theirs to begin with, although I've played all the modern Ninja Gaiden games, but I shudder to think about their open world activities.
As someone who never played FES, how long is this additional content?
I haven't bought Reload and am not in any hurry to do so, but I'd love to play this epilogue when I do get around to it. I just hope they sell it separately, because I'm never buying costumes/music for a single player game.
No, it's not surprising. If there's an IP that seems well suited for live service it's definitely something like HP. Built in seasons of school years, houses to sort players into, etc.
Whether they can make that game, and make it well is a major question, but there is clear potential.
When examining Suicide Squad, I think it's hard to judge it. It doesn't seem like a good fit for live service to begin with. Nor was Rocksteady necessarily the right studio.
There isn't an easy answer, but it's clear the answer wasn't to double down on 40 hour AAAA prestige games. The market for these titles are only so large - GTA excluded - and you can only sell them for so much.
The answer also certainly doesn't seem to be live service games, as we've now seen Sony cancel multiple titles that were never even officially shown. And the titles that have been announced don't have gameplay and the audience reception is already looking pretty apathetic.
I know first-party indie style experiences do no sell consoles, but I think there is a market and an appetite for shorter AAA games. Miles Morales did use recycled assets, but it was also just a tighter experience overall.
I think the obsession with flashier graphics and reigning in the scope of these games is where to start. I mean, it's wild to think, but the PS5 is in its fourth year and there are still multiple first-party teams that haven't released an original game this generation. I know making games is hard, super hard, but we don't even have games officially announced from Naughty Dog, Bend, Sucker Punch, Media Molecule.
I think this is where we look at Nintendo. I know they have their secret IP sauce, but it's highly unlikely their flagship titles, a Mario Odyssey for example, is costing hundreds of millions of dollars to produce.
I think this is pretty much all the proof you need that the industry in its current configuration is unsustainable. The PS5 by all accounts has been quite successful, but if you have to layoff nearly 1000 people then something is going wrong.
Seems odd that co-op, even in a specific way, wasn't shown as a dedicated feature before now. Makes me a little more interested, although I don't anticipate any of my friends getting this.
Ronin looks cool overall but I'm still not super jazzed about it. Probably wait for it to come to Plus in a year or two.
Scope looks pretty insane. I don't entirely understand what type of game it is, kind of bounces around every genre.
I'm very interested though. They should approach Annapurna, Devolver or Private Division.
I'm not sold on the art. The hyper realism of some of the textures, lighting and world map are a little jarring with character designs. Kind of a Good Dinosaur thing going on.
I'd be curious to try a demo. I played a few hours of the original and found it to be really dull, but I'll admit the trailers for the sequel have been pretty impressive. I'm still not excited about the straight medieval fantasy thing, but I'll give it a whirl.
I thought the combat trailer was a bit weird, but I just assumed Konami was trying to trick new players into thinking there's more action. Silent Hill is a little niche, and Konami wants that RE2 and 4make money.
I admire what they tried to do but the game looked super generic and I think the first-person magic casting game is a hard sell, at least for a straight action game.
I agree with the person though, launching a huge budget FPS as a debut game seemed a bit insane.
It's an interesting co-op shooter on PC. That is totally the right market for it. The first game was definitely a cult thing, but people that got into it seemed to really love it, so I bet there was some interest for this and people could easily convince a friend or two to grab it since it isn't full MSRP.
What I would be really curious about is what the numbers are on PC versus console. I bet PC totally dwarfs console.
I don't care at all about MS stuff like Halo, GoW, Forza, but I care a lot about many of the studios they've scooped up, including Bethesda, Arkane, Obsidian, inXile, Ninja Theory and Double Fine. So I would be really happy to see them go platform agnostic.
I'd be really happy to see Bethesda titles on PS5. I wanted to play Starfield before it got kind of a lukewarm response, but I think I'd still enjoy checking it out one day.
If Microsoft ends up dropping Bethesda games on Sony platforms a year after Xbox I would totally happy with that scenario.
Replay trophies on harder difficulties are largely a no go for me. A 60 hour RPG is already a big lift for me, so doing it twice with more frustration is a firm no.
I've got some Platinums for replays in other games, but they have to be titles you can really plow through. Anything that's going to be a long grind is just a waste of time to me.
I'm very happy with Rollerdrome, so I'm calling this month a win. Steel Rising is intriguing too, but I doubt I'll give it a go with all my other games.
I don't entirely understand what this game is. I thought it was going to be a linear action game, like Bayonetta, but with the economy and side quests... what is the structure of this game?
I'm not sure if I will get Tekken 8. I got both 6 and 7 and barely played both. Locals will certainly get into 8, so if I go and play there regularly I might end up getting it. However, if I continue to go occasionally I'll likely just stick with SF6, and possibly GBVSR.
@JB_Whiting Similar boat here. I had been keeping an eye on this as I also thought it looked like a perfect "seven out of ten" from the PS2 era. I wouldn't call it the worst game, but it's janky and frustrating for all the wrong reasons.
I expected an enjoyable action romp with dated graphics and questionable writing, but it's not fun, unfair and really punishing. It's a throwback that focused on the wrong stuff.
Oh, and I think the game would need some fundamental gameplay changes to be fun. Bug fixes and unattainable trophies are this game's last problems.
I've liked the Riot Forge stuff so far but honestly never really understood the market for then. I don't think normal LoL players are interested in other genres and I don't think players unfamiliar with LoL would gravitate to games in the fiction.
I feel like getting this is a no brainer with the upgrade path, but the last time I played I was working on my second playthrough to get the Platinum, so I'm worried about losing that progress somehow.
I'm also just not in a hurry to play this again. It's a great but grueling game. It's also damn long.
I might try to finish my playthrough on the PS4 version and then upgrade to check put the rogue-like mode.
I don't think they're bad games, I'm just not particularly interested in any of them. I have RE2. I'm interested in Tina but also just feeling pretty over Borderlands as a series.
I could see Larian announcing an expansion for BG3, but not releasing it this year. Both of their recent Divinity games were well loved successes and never got expansions, and BG3 was in production for 6 years. Larian also said there are practical issues with having OP characters in DnD beyond the BG3 level cap.
All I want to see is first-party games - preferably good ones! Bring on their Live Service games too! I'm not necessarily interested, but I just want to see what they're working on. It's wild to me that we're 4 years in and the only first-party game I have loved this gen is Returnal!

I hope we see more Xbox games but I'm not interested in Sea of Thieves. I might pick up Pentiment at some point though.

Re: Don't Nod Has Seven Games in the Works, Four of Them Unannounced
I'm glad they have a plan and are confident about their niche. I'm looking forward to checking out Banishers sometime soon.
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Rise of the Ronin?
RotR will probably be a Plus Extra game for me down the road.
Re: Cult Classic Shadows of the Damned Gets Hella Remastered for PS5, PS4
Probably won't revisit this, but definitely a fun, sophomoric game. Certainly the Suda game with the most solid gameplay.
Re: No Baldur's Gate 3 DLC from Larian Studios, and It's Not Making Baldur's Gate 4 Either

Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Is Up to Three Times Faster Than PS5 as Specs Surface
I have no interest in a PS5 Pro. I don't even feel like the PS5 itself has been pushed far enough to warrant a refresh.
Re: 13 New Games Land on PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Week
Hell yeah, I've been assuming Midnight Suns would be coming and have put off buying it multiple times! Might try RE3 also.
Re: Cancelled Live Service Spider-Man PS5 Game Allegedly Surfaces
Spider-Man gameplay is barely interesting enough to last the amount of time it takes to 100% the map, so a Live Service version seems like a bad idea.

Done dirty. I'll grab the game and DLC next year.
