Re: Legacy of Kain Fans Turn Up for Soul Reaver Prequel Comic, Smashing Kickstarter Goal

RudeAnimat0r

If this is a post that actually wants to analyze whether Soul Reaver is popular enough for a revival, it should look at the numbers a little more closely. I don't know if Soul Reaver has a big fan base, but I would guess it's pretty niche. $1m is a nice round, impressive number, but the number of backers is less than 6k. That means those people are backing at an average of $175!

It's hard to compare this Kickstarter to other gaming ones since it's for a comic. However, I think it's worth looking at it slightly more objectively than this piece even attempts.

Re: Reaction: It's Time for Xbox to Tell Us Which Games It's Bringing to PS5, and Which Games It Isn't

RudeAnimat0r

I don't expect Microsoft to make an Xbox on PlayStation roadmap. The Xbox team clearly isn't thrilled they even have to do this. The fact Sea of Theives sold 1m copies already on PS5 illustrates they don't need a long marketing runway.

It's honestly no different than PlayStation Studios on PC.

I guess I don't care much because I'm not interested in most of their first party stuff right now. Frankly, I'm surprised they announced Indy before it even hits Xbox. But it's a game that makes sense since it isn't an Xbox franchise.

Re: Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Confirms 17 Characters, April 2025 Release on PS5, PS4

RudeAnimat0r

I think this is great that they're including season 1 with the base game. It's smart and it gets the game into player's hands sooner than waiting for those 5 characters to be ready.

Fatal Fury is not a household name and SNK needs the new generation to give this game a shot - I imagine some people commenting weren't even born when Garou released!

Anyway, I don't think there is anything cheeky about this. I love that there will be a steady stream of new characters that I do not have to pay additional for. It's a great incentive for me to pop in after a few months, if I lapse.

Last, I know people aren't happy with fg becoming live service titles, but this is the only viable model - unless 2XKO blows up, but Riot can afford to make it free. Fighting games do not sell gangbusters - it took SF5 six years to sell 5 million copies, and you can assume a lot of those sales were at steep discounts beyond the first couple of years.

Re: Until Dawn PS5 Is Priced at $60 / £60

RudeAnimat0r

If you're a first timer I think you can get your money's worth, but if you've already gotten your fill it's a big ask.

I like Until Dawn, but am firmly in the "did this need to be remade?" camp. I know there are new players on PS5 that Sony is hoping to capture, it's just not even vaguely old or dated.

Re: Shadows of the Damned 2 Possible if PS5, PS4 Remaster Sells Well

RudeAnimat0r

I liked the original a lot more than I expected to. I'd say this is primarily due to it controlling well and being a hell of a lot more accessible than most of Suda's work. I always assumed that was due to Shinji Mikami's involvement - it plays like a budget RE4.

I don't know if I'd want to return to this or a sequel. My guess is my tolerance for the humor probably only lasts for that first playthrough.

Re: Publishers Bail on Live-Service Flops Too Quickly, Says Warframe Boss

RudeAnimat0r

I agree that some Live Service titles are dropped too early, but I don't think there's a perfect equation of keep plugging away/pull the plug. There are obviously a lot of factors we're not privy to. Like, let's use Suicide Squad as the example: how expensive is it to maintain? Does Rocksteady even know how to improve it? Do they even want to? How many players do they need to make it sustainable? How many staffers do they need to maintain it?

Beyond the logistics of trying to find these games an audience, and a lot of commenter's mentioned this already, are there additional players out there? Can Suicide Squad supplant Warframe, Genshin Impact, Destiny, Fortnight in someone's life? I don't know the answer. I gave up on these types of games because I like new experiences on a regular basis.

Re: Talking Point: Was Sony Right to Resist Adding PS5 Exclusives to PS Plus Day One?

RudeAnimat0r

The answer to this is very simple: Microsoft spent $70b on Activision, plus there's no way Starfield has turned a profit. If subscriptions don't continue to grow they need a lot more revenue, and forcing people to either upgrade to Ultimate or actually buy the games is certainly a way to go.

The problem with this model is some people might play CoD all year long until the next one. Paying for a subscription. That now costs $240/year at the monthly fee is significantly more than just buying CoD every year a la carte.

Re: Next Like a Dragon Title a Surprise for Fans, RGG Studio Teases

RudeAnimat0r

@Ravix First, I don't think Sega has the budget for that. The series is still fairly niche. Plus they are trying to annualize it, which means we should expect less radical alterations to the design going forward.

I guess I'm curious what you'd like to see them do to the city? Yes it's gamey, but like the whole series is insanely gamey. I'd argue that's part of the appeal. I'd love the game to have better writing and better animation, I think that would go a long way, but again I don't see that happening given the series's reach.

Re: Next Like a Dragon Title a Surprise for Fans, RGG Studio Teases

RudeAnimat0r

Definitely a spin off game again. Dead Souls 2 anyone?

No way are they changing from turn-based after only 2 games AND Infinite Wealth being the fastest selling game in the series globally.

I also saw some comments about making Like a Dragon true open world and I am not about that at all. You make a game that scale you need faster traversal methods, ie. cars, etc. You put your protagonist in a car and you're separating them from the city they live in. It's just a different game. Like a Dragon would need a drastic rethink structurally to be an open world game.

Re: SEGA's New Crazy Taxi Game Is Open World and Multiplayer

RudeAnimat0r

I always figured it would be both of these things, which I actually think can work well with CT's DNA. I don't think Crazy Taxi can work as it's old arcade game anymore, but lots of events that have the length of an arcade session is a perfect fit for updating it, and throw in other drivers, it's a great concept.

Now, let's see how it is executed...

Re: Round Up: We're All Sleeping on Capcom's Kunitsu-Gami, as Super Positive Previews Drop

RudeAnimat0r

Can we be sleeping on something that the publisher hasn't really effectively marketed?

I've always thought this game looked interesting, but they've done a terrible job communicating what it even is. I had no idea it has strategy elements until this round of previews. Capcom has just sort dropped little trailers alongside other large announcements, like they assumed it would be a failure.
