I finally tried this out a week ago and was pretty disappointed. I thought the controls were a bit sluggish and it was hard to tell when hits register since there is very little feedback.
I think I'm just spoiled by Power Stone when it comes to arena fighters :/
This was the coolest new reveal of the day for me, other than Capcom FC2. I'm a little tired of rogue-likes, but the art style and uniqueness of this has me interested.
If this is a post that actually wants to analyze whether Soul Reaver is popular enough for a revival, it should look at the numbers a little more closely. I don't know if Soul Reaver has a big fan base, but I would guess it's pretty niche. $1m is a nice round, impressive number, but the number of backers is less than 6k. That means those people are backing at an average of $175!
It's hard to compare this Kickstarter to other gaming ones since it's for a comic. However, I think it's worth looking at it slightly more objectively than this piece even attempts.
I might try it when it's free on Plus down the line, but even then... maybe not? I don't think it looks bad, I just am totally uninterested in the genre.
The other point I wanted to make is Xbox is still in the hardware business, whether they like it or not. Announcing their full slate of PS5 ports will crater any demand for a physical Xbox that remains.
I don't expect Microsoft to make an Xbox on PlayStation roadmap. The Xbox team clearly isn't thrilled they even have to do this. The fact Sea of Theives sold 1m copies already on PS5 illustrates they don't need a long marketing runway.
It's honestly no different than PlayStation Studios on PC.
I guess I don't care much because I'm not interested in most of their first party stuff right now. Frankly, I'm surprised they announced Indy before it even hits Xbox. But it's a game that makes sense since it isn't an Xbox franchise.
I think this is great that they're including season 1 with the base game. It's smart and it gets the game into player's hands sooner than waiting for those 5 characters to be ready.
Fatal Fury is not a household name and SNK needs the new generation to give this game a shot - I imagine some people commenting weren't even born when Garou released!
Anyway, I don't think there is anything cheeky about this. I love that there will be a steady stream of new characters that I do not have to pay additional for. It's a great incentive for me to pop in after a few months, if I lapse.
Last, I know people aren't happy with fg becoming live service titles, but this is the only viable model - unless 2XKO blows up, but Riot can afford to make it free. Fighting games do not sell gangbusters - it took SF5 six years to sell 5 million copies, and you can assume a lot of those sales were at steep discounts beyond the first couple of years.
It's kind of off-putting how much the main character looks like Vyse.
Not sure I had heard of this before. The turn-based ship combat looks alright, but the exploration stuff looks very rudimentary, in both the air and on foot. I'll likely pass, but I'm open to having my mind changed by positive reviews and word of mouth.
If you're a first timer I think you can get your money's worth, but if you've already gotten your fill it's a big ask.
I like Until Dawn, but am firmly in the "did this need to be remade?" camp. I know there are new players on PS5 that Sony is hoping to capture, it's just not even vaguely old or dated.
Looks like Atomic Heart and Cyber Punk had a baby. Kidding aside, while the game looks technically impressive in some ways, it also looks super generic in many others.
Have only played Returnal, Rogue Legacy 2 and Ragnarök of those listed on PS5. Gave Returnal a 10. It's an all-timer for me. I drink the Housemarque Koolaid.
I liked the original a lot more than I expected to. I'd say this is primarily due to it controlling well and being a hell of a lot more accessible than most of Suda's work. I always assumed that was due to Shinji Mikami's involvement - it plays like a budget RE4.
I don't know if I'd want to return to this or a sequel. My guess is my tolerance for the humor probably only lasts for that first playthrough.
I really enjoyed Braid when it came out. It was a great, influential indie of the early days of digital storefronts. With all that said, it's not nearly as inventive as it was then, I don't think the style of the graphics has aged well, and I just don't think it's a game people were itching to revisit. I certainly was never interested in this re-release.
I think there are a lot of them now, but it doesn't really bother me? I don't gravitate toward the genre, but it I don't mind other people getting their fill.
I always thought Soul Reaver was pretty neat. This is definitely the type of series I like to see brought back. Anxious to see what it looks like and if they are adding any QOL stuff.
@EfYI Persona 6 is far off because Atlus made a new IP, in Metaphor. I doubt they have much involvement in this at all, beyond advising the Chinese developer.
I agree that some Live Service titles are dropped too early, but I don't think there's a perfect equation of keep plugging away/pull the plug. There are obviously a lot of factors we're not privy to. Like, let's use Suicide Squad as the example: how expensive is it to maintain? Does Rocksteady even know how to improve it? Do they even want to? How many players do they need to make it sustainable? How many staffers do they need to maintain it?
Beyond the logistics of trying to find these games an audience, and a lot of commenter's mentioned this already, are there additional players out there? Can Suicide Squad supplant Warframe, Genshin Impact, Destiny, Fortnight in someone's life? I don't know the answer. I gave up on these types of games because I like new experiences on a regular basis.
Stardust is a weird comparison. Yes, it's a twin stick game, but its the gameplay that revolves around it's spherical stages is what makes it Stardust. This looks like any old twin stick game with Raiden trappings.
The answer to this is very simple: Microsoft spent $70b on Activision, plus there's no way Starfield has turned a profit. If subscriptions don't continue to grow they need a lot more revenue, and forcing people to either upgrade to Ultimate or actually buy the games is certainly a way to go.
The problem with this model is some people might play CoD all year long until the next one. Paying for a subscription. That now costs $240/year at the monthly fee is significantly more than just buying CoD every year a la carte.
@Ravix First, I don't think Sega has the budget for that. The series is still fairly niche. Plus they are trying to annualize it, which means we should expect less radical alterations to the design going forward.
I guess I'm curious what you'd like to see them do to the city? Yes it's gamey, but like the whole series is insanely gamey. I'd argue that's part of the appeal. I'd love the game to have better writing and better animation, I think that would go a long way, but again I don't see that happening given the series's reach.
Definitely a spin off game again. Dead Souls 2 anyone?
No way are they changing from turn-based after only 2 games AND Infinite Wealth being the fastest selling game in the series globally.
I also saw some comments about making Like a Dragon true open world and I am not about that at all. You make a game that scale you need faster traversal methods, ie. cars, etc. You put your protagonist in a car and you're separating them from the city they live in. It's just a different game. Like a Dragon would need a drastic rethink structurally to be an open world game.
Only 2 new games I've played on PS5 this year are Infinite Wealth and PoP: The Lost Crown. Probably lean PoP, I just think it was an excellent Metroidvania with a few smart additions.
I always figured it would be both of these things, which I actually think can work well with CT's DNA. I don't think Crazy Taxi can work as it's old arcade game anymore, but lots of events that have the length of an arcade session is a perfect fit for updating it, and throw in other drivers, it's a great concept.
Can we be sleeping on something that the publisher hasn't really effectively marketed?
I've always thought this game looked interesting, but they've done a terrible job communicating what it even is. I had no idea it has strategy elements until this round of previews. Capcom has just sort dropped little trailers alongside other large announcements, like they assumed it would be a failure.

@ShogunRok Ah, cool, wasn't aware it wasn't in house.
Re: The Witcher 4 Close to Full Production, Next Cyberpunk Progressing as Planned
I thought their next release was supposed to be a Witcher 1 remake?
Re: Promising Persona-Inspired RPG Demonschool Hit with Hefty Delay
Hadn't realized it had a release date, let alone 2 weeks from now. Happy to wait until the developers are pleased with it.
Re: Brilliant Kaiju Brawler GigaBash Is Powering Up with More PS5, PS4 DLC

Re: Retro Inspired Rugrats Platformer Makes a Play for PS5, PS4 Next Month
Was never really a Rugrats fan, despite watching it with the other Nick Toons, bit this looks pretty neat.
Where's my Doug platformer!?
Re: Online RPG Blue Protocol Shutting Down, Western Release Cancelled
Pretty wild. Amazon is a real dud so far in the games business.

Re: Atlus, It's Time to Stop Spoiling Metaphor: ReFantazio
@NathanKang This. I watched the first trailer or two, but otherwise media blackout on this for me. All I really needed was Persona Team + new IP.

Re: Surreal Turn-Based JRPG Bloomtown: A Different Story Begins in September
Totally up my alley. Can't resist stuff in that sort of '80s Amblin Entertainment mold.
Re: Explore an Apocalyptic Britain in Atomfall on PS5, PS4 Early Next Year
Looks pretty solid. Have to decide if I have the patience for these types of games anymore.

Re: 11 Major PS5, PS4 Games Leaving PS Plus, Including Horizon Forbidden West
Glad I played through Midnight Suns when I did. I own Horizon and NieR, so I'm good otherwise.
Re: PS Plus Premium Classic Herc's Adventures Retrofitted with Trophies on PS4
Does this mean the version I bought as PSOne classic on a previous generation of hardware has trophies now?
This is an all time favorite of mine. I would totally replay it for a Platinum.

Re: The Plucky Squire Launches on PS5 This September, Day One on PS Plus Extra
Awesome news, looking forward to this! Maybe if it's awesome I'll buy the inevitable physical copy later on.
Re: 15 PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Announced for August 2024
Definitely going to try out Cult of the Lamb. Also agreeing, that's a lot of Sword Art
Kind of curious about Wild Hearts but I, don't have a crew to play it with.
Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite PS5 Roguelike Games
@DETfaninATL I think it's not listed since it's a PS4 release. I never tried it but heard it was great. I loved the base game.

Re: Poll: Have You Pre-Ordered an Astro Bot PS5 DualSense Controller?
I want one but don't need a third controller. Also, controllers are just too dang expensive.
Re: Elden Ring 'Really the Limit' for How Large FromSoftware's Games Can Be
I prefer their "smaller" work to Elden Ring, so I have no complaints with them refusing to go bigger.

Definitely check out Ender Lillies.

Re: Sea of Stars Dev Offers Brief Update on Story DLC, Co-Op Mode
I loved Sea of Stars. It was another great modernization of the classic JRPG formula and I'll definitely play the DLC.
I'll freely admit to drinking Sabotage's Kool-aid. I played The Messenger and it's DLC too.
Re: Wax On, Wax Off with This Super Nintendo-Style Karate Kid Beat-'Em-Up for PS5, PS4

Re: Capcom Ends New Content Support for Exoprimal
Sounds like it's about time for this to be a Plus game. I'd give it a shot.
Re: Poll: Are You Playing The First Descendant?
