Brilliant strategy from Capcom to generate hype. Sure, it's not simple, but it worked like a charm for Nintendo, and they actually did that with a full release.
I haven't played Days Gone yet, but I remember thinking it had an identity issue when it was revealed. Up to the color tones, it reminded me too much of Last of Us.
I can understand Sony's decision to prefer new IP over sequel. That said, they're clearly talented, and I hope they continue to work as a separate studio instead of merging with ND. As great as ND is, they have a well-defined style in their games and their release cycle takes a long time...
Pretty much every year I end up replaying Kingdom Hearts series. That's 5 different games actually. And then Mario and Pokémon are also series I always go back to another run.
It doesn't really stop at gaming, though. I read the Harry Potter books 5 or 6 times already. I watched My Neighbor Totoro quite a few times since it's a childhood favorite of mine.
I guess some people enjoy repeating what's special to them, while others prefer to always experience something new.
Didn't Japan Studio work with Bluepoint on the recent Demon's Souls remake? If you sum that with Astro Bot, there is really no need for restructuring, they are brilliant!
I haven't used this in two years, I think. I was going to start purchasing films digitally back then, but PS Store didn't have any films from my country so I only rented a few international films instead. But you know, for that we already have Google's service which is way more complete.
This article made me remember the old days of renting DVDs for some reason. I miss the extras that came with the discs, always fun to take a peek into the backstage.
Much like anyone else, my concern is the reduced value of PlayStation as a platform in the long term.
That said, PC has an established business model of maintaining games available for purchase no matter how old they are, which works for me since PS4 has been my favorite console so far, and Sony is only starting with the "platform library" concept.
I also enjoy the fact that selling older exclusives to more gamers might enable a lower price tag in new releases or reduce the price faster.
A little off-topic, but I wish Sony would create some sort of web show to share game development news. Think behind the scenes sort of videos. They certainly can't drop huge gaming news every now and then, which is why we don't have frequent State of Plays, but talks and insights from development studios could be done in a timely fashion - and they would be quite fun to watch.
I mean, we know the games PlayStation Studios are working on, with a few coming this year. We just had the launch of PS5. Given the prices of new games, I didn't yet have the opportunity to purchase and play all the must have launch games. Resident Evil Village is right around the corner. And we all have a huge backlog of games to work with, not to mention the ones we want to replay (I'm looking at you, God of War).
Sony can take their time until the next State of Play IMO.
I really like PushSquare as it is most of the time, so this comment is actually about what I'd like you folks to stop doing: placeholder Q&A articles. They have no content, just questions without answers. I do understand the need for clicks, but only post this kind of article if you have at least one answer to provide...
I won't deny it, I'm happy that Google's attempt of tearing down our hobby by owning yet another market is falling apart. Sad about the professionals working there, though. I hope other studios hire them soon!
I got mine at launch, thankfully! It's crazy that scalpers are getting all the available consoles out there - even crazier that it would be as easy as not buying from them to stop scalpers, but people do buy from them...
I don't think the situation is going to get better until 2022. Once we have enough industries to produce vaccines to the entire world in a timely manner, then finding PS5s in stock will be easier.
@ObserverGamez Not exactly the same, though. Capcom actually shared gameplay videos running on PlayStation and released a demo on PlayStation 5 that plays perfectly well.
CDPR lied all the way until release date. They knew that it played as awful as it did, but still did not share any gameplay videos for people to make an informed decision.
RE2 is a direct sequel to 1, yet it evolved the formula and brought new things to the table. Another example in a different series - Kingdom Hearts 2 is pretty much a direct sequel to Kingdom Hearts, but again it adds a lot to the "play and feel".
Don't get me wrong, I know RE Village is going to be great and innovate in many areas, and I'll get it day 1.
Just saying that this demo would feel at home as a demo to RE7 due to its gameplay IMO.
Just played the demo. Felt a little too close to RE7 to be honest, which isn't bad at all, I was just expecting something new. The visuals and atmosphere are awesome as usual, Capcom's developers deserve awards for their work with RE Engine.
I understand you, Sammy. I'm in a somewhat parallel scenario where I see all these events unfolding but I can't buy all the games together, specially at full price.
Honestly, for me the real issue is not the amount of events, but the fact that they all happen near launch day and too close to each other. In a matter of weeks, games go from season 1 to season 3 or 4. Seriously? Publishers should give it time. Think Netflix series, one season a year, and lots of series to watch. We manage to enjoy lots of series because of this approach.
It's just going too fast for adults to keep up. And I believe that nowadays adults are a major part of PlayStation, Xbox and PC audience.
My December game will be Demon's Souls. I wasn't certain at first, but PS5's social features sold the game for me. I watched my friend play Demon's Souls in Picture-in-Picture mode, while playing Miles Morales; so looking forward to playing it with him now.
Most of the time I prefer to actually play the game instead of using fast-travels and activity cards. I did use activity cards to play Peter's challenges in Miles Morales, though. Quite useful for post-game side missions.
Still didn't figure out how to use those guides, however. Sony did an excellent job of making the menu tricky to work with if you came from PS4 - for starters they switched the commands for "quick menu" and "main menu"... Don't know about you folks, but I often hold PS button by mistake when I want to go to "quick menu" to put PS5 in rest mode, hehe.
Without any doubts, it's the best PlayStation controller. It's as creative as Nintendo controllers, but ergonomic with a "premium" look and feel. They even fixed the precision of the touch pad! What is there not to like?
My PS5 Digital Edition has this issue, sadly. It's not even close to how loud and annoying PS4 fans were, but it's irritating if you're playing in low volumes at night to not wake up anyone.
I got the platinum on Astro today. Lovely game that does an excellent job showcasing DualSense's features. Feeling the drops of the rain or the Frog suit weight is amazing! I hope other games explore the controller as well.
My only complaint on Astro has been the rolling ball levels - not even Japan Studio managed to find a nice use of the touch pad... I mean, it would have been easy to control the ball with the analog sticks, or even with motion control, but no, I have to die 1000 times to control with the touch pad.
It would be nice to get links to PS Store as well as Amazon, specially if it took us to whatever the user's region is in PS Store. Sony should even provide you folks with a cut from the total price if we completed the transaction, given it has a Digital Edition console this gen.
Congrats, Push Square! Looking forward to the articles!
I'd like to know more about the non-gaming interactions, such as Library, Store, organizing the multiple games, customizing the interface, and so on. Also curious about Tempest engine, if you can somehow try it, and how it works with multiple kinds of audio devices. =)
I believe these pages may provide us a look into what might eventually become the PS Store (well, hopefully anyway), given it's already in the same website.
It may give you a little more insight into what PS Store may become after some iterations. It's all already there in the website, only in a different section.

Re: Square Enix Categorically Denies Possible Acquisition Rumours
Glad that's been settled. Square Enix is pretty much my second favorite studio/publisher, it would be a huge loss if they were bought by any company.

Great guide @LiamCroft!
Brilliant strategy from Capcom to generate hype. Sure, it's not simple, but it worked like a charm for Nintendo, and they actually did that with a full release.
Re: PS5 Firmware Update Fixes Game Deletion Debris
I've seen a few interesting improvements in this update so far. Not sure if they were there before, but I hadn't noticed yet.
Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy a PS5 Remake of The Last of Us?
The graphics are still nice, the gameplay remains great... It's most likely a limited budget effort to ride on the release of the TV show.
Personally, if this is true, I'll wait until it comes with PS Plus.
Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Goes Gold Ahead of Release in May
I only missed ME3 back on PS3, the games had a really nice atmosphere. Looking forward to Push Square review. =)

Hope it's all sorted out soon.
Re: Why GTA 5 on PS5 Will Be More Than Just a 'Simple Port'
Well, that's the reality of every new gen, 1st year of ports and cross-gen releases originally targetting the previous gen.
Honestly though, bots must be buying and playing GTA V at this point...

Re: Interview: An Exclusive Chat with Lou Studdert on Crash Bandicoot 4's PS5 Upgrade
Excellent! This will be my March game since I missed it on PS4.
Re: PS Plus Subscriber Count Reaches an Impressive 47.4 Million
Impressive numbers, but they're likely to decrease once more players get a PS5. Gotta say, though, PS+ is being quite strong this year!
Btw, Destruction All Stars will remain available for free until April 6th, so it's likely that it'll be a part of March's offerings as well.

Re: Poll: What Is Your PS5 and PS4 Game of the Year 2020?
Astro's Playroom all the way, made me smile and have fun for as long as it lasted. Second and third place go to Miles Morales and Resident Evil 3.
Re: Poll: Are You Buying Cyberpunk 2077?
I'll definitely play it, but later down the road, either when the PS5 version releases or it goes on sale, whatever comes first.
Re: Hands On: Why You Should Be Using PS5 Remote Play More
Seriously impressive stuff! PS4 remote play was awful in my home. PS5 is very decent, a few hiccups, but completely playable!
Edit: It was already decent, then I turned off the TV to try it around the house and it got even smoother. Nice work, Sony!

Re: PS Plus December 2020 PS5, PS4 Games Announced
I'll play Worms Rumble. Played a whole lot of Worms back in the day, so even if it's a new genre for the series, I'm willing to give it a try. =)
Does anyone know if it has local multiplayer modes?
Re: Poll: Is the PS5 DualSense Sony's Best Controller Yet?

@get2sammyb Ok, but is there a level with a Taylor Swift song? Haha
Sounds really fun! Probably my 2nd game after Miles Morales.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered PS5 Gameplay Serves Some Crow

Re: PS5 Review - The Future of PlayStation
@get2sammyb Can we hide/delete games from the library (e.g. demos, games we didn't like)? Can we delete games from trophy list?
Re: Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Still Looks Stunning on PS4
Seriously, PS4 version looks amazing! Insomniac's developers are insanely good.
Re: PS5 Review - The Future of PlayStation
Excellent review, quite a long read, but well detailed! It got me even more excited for Nov. 26th (that's Amazon's target date here)!
Hey @get2sammyb, can you try Resident Evil 2 on PS5? Mr. X's steps in 3D audio has a lot of potential. I wouldn't mind stable framerates either. =)
Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want to Know About PS5?
I'd like to know more about 3D audio! Is it as awesome as Sony say? Does it work with any headphones/earphones? Does it improve any old BC games?
Also, does it take flight in demanding games both old and new like PS4 Slim? Would be nice to test it in open and closed spaces.
Re: Upcoming PS5 and PS4 Games and Accessories for November and December 2020

Re: Sony Admits Not Everyone Will Be Able to Get PS5 At Launch
@graysoncharles That's odd, it seems available for me. Maybe it's reserved by region or something... =/
Another possibility that I'm aware of is MagazineLuiza.com.br, not sure if the same regional rule apply.
Re: Sony Admits Not Everyone Will Be Able to Get PS5 At Launch
Hey folks, some digital stores in Brazil such as Americanas.com still have PS5 pre-orders available, in case you're ok with importing it.

I believe these pages may provide us a look into what might eventually become the PS Store (well, hopefully anyway), given it's already in the same website.
