Why all-digital only people didn't asked and pushed Sony to do all of these years ago?
But now when physical games will be dead in one and half year, suddenly you guys realized you're cooked with no buying options and feels the need to have better treatment from Sony? Lol.
It's too late for all of us. Sony would've done most of these especially better refund policy, resell/trade digital games, and gifting years ago IF all digital only people pushed them to do it.
But what we have right now are still the same "ownership" policy that put users at disadvantage, the same sh*tty refund policy, still the same utter garbage costumers support that aren't helpful, loyalty scheme keeps changing or even completely gone, games / movies got delisted from the store and even from users library like it's nothing, dynamic pricing, if your account get hacked and banned then say goodbye to all your digital games etc.
Enjoy your all-digital future while under the mercy of billions of dollar corpos π»
This is just me but spending $300+ for a dead accessories with very limited library where the majority are mediocre games sounds like a big waste for me. I prefer to used that money for a retro console with good library.
@ShadowRJ Agreed. Ironically, a lot of people who complaint about Sony live service games are the same ones who told us physical fans to stop complaining while screaming "80% of the majority wants it!" from their lung. Let's see if those poor muppets will show up again for the next Sony live service articles. Ha!
Personally, here at something like Fan Fest or at community events for games that I've worked on, I really think that people bringing up things, asking for autographs β I think that's lovely. I think it's a wonderful culture and it would be a shame to lose that. I want that to remain."
Just like physical games, physical gaming events will be gone too since the "majority of gamers" wants an all-digital future. They hate physical gaming events and physical objects like posters, books, disc, etc. For them, it's a waste of money, take space on their house or room, and polluted this earth. So next time, there's no need to give your autograph when the fans can downloaded it π
Just got out from the theatre and for me this is possibly Tom Holland best spidey movie. It reminds me of Tobey Spidey 2 which is my favorite Spidey movie.
No online ranked mode?! Wow, we're going back to the old days where fg's only provide couch versus mode π
@charliecarrot Good tutorial is a must for modern fg's. SF 6, Guilty Gear Xrd / Sign, Skullgirls, and Virtua Fighter 5 has some if not the best tutorials ever in fg's history.
Not a single bit of sympathy for MS since they're one of the biggest muppet who fked up hardware price and gave us this sh*tshow.
Also, most of you guys who goes digital only and keeps defending Sony decision to kill physical games are rich af. You guys perfectly okay spending $80-100 for a digital game that can't be resell or trade. So, why would you guys worried if PS6 price pass $1000+ when you guys have the money? Ha!
@Toot1st Didn't know condolences is an exclusives gesture only for people who passed away and can't be used to show sympathy / empathy for people who's in troubled or experiencing misfortune. But ok then, my bad. Next time i'll use different word π
@Anthony_Daniels What indies that looks and plays like Puppeteer, Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice, or Freedom Wars? Even ex-Japan Studio like Keiichiro Toyama with Slitterhead didn't feel as good / memorable as Siren.
I'm not even surprise if Fumito Ueda new game will fall short compare to ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, or The Last Guardian.
For all we know, the digital game codes may not even be inside plastic boxes anymore when 2028 comes. Just "environmentally friendly, easily dissolvable" thin cardboard gift cards with the game art and title over it.
Yup. Pretty much it will be like gift cards with game artwork in the front and the game code is on behind where you need to scratch it with a coin or your nails.
I bet a lot of retail will not stock this cardboards cause almost no one who bother go to a game store will pick a $70-80 piece of paper over a physical game. Heck, i'm not surprise if dedicated game stores sold more retro / second hand games over this code in a box / cardboards.
Naughty Dog have been in decline with their previous release (that wasnβt a remake/remaster) TLOU Part II being a mess.
TloU 2 by no any means in the category as a "mess". From technical point, it's a very well polished game from start to finish. Graphics, animation, sounds, music, gameplay, and voice act all are top notch. I don't even experience a single crash or weird glitch from my 25-30 hours playing time.
Maybe you don't like the story and characters which has some flaws. But the overall game is not a mess, far from that category.
I guess it's easy to deceived people with statistic like this as if no one buy physical games anymore when companies released digital only games and reduced physical games availability.
I'm still waiting for physical release for Kunitsu-Gami, Ghost n' Goblins Ressurection, Strider 2014, and Onimusha 2 HD for PS4/PS5. But i guess Capcom not gonna bother to do it...
Id bet all those games combined sold less than astro bot which heading towards 5 mill on the smaller ps5 user base
You can't trust Alinea with their messy / unreliable track record. If Astro Bot really sold almost 5 million copies in less than 2 years, we should've seen Sony official announcement to confirm those numbers is real, just like they did with Ghost of Tsushima / Yotei, Spiderman, GoW, TloU etc. So far Sony only announced the game sold 1.5 million copies back in 2024 and that's it.
And while Astro Bot is a good game but i prefer to play Shadow of the Colossus, Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice, or Freedom Wars. Maybe all of them didn't sold as much as Astro Bot. But they're a part that makes PS looks unique than the competition.
No, i didn't buy it and possibly never will. But i've played and finished Combat Evolved on PC many moons ago and that was my first and last experience with Halo. The series is just not my cup of tea but good for people who enjoyed it.
I get what Shu said but the pain of losing Japan studio is still there π
Most of the blame was on SIE higher ups who made bad call with their obsession for AAA games. And the rest was on Playstation userbase who ignored and didn't support the studio.
Oh well...at least i did my part as a fans. I bought a bunch of their games brand new / pre-order including their digital only games like Rain and Tokyo Jungle (this one probably has a physical released?).
And no vote options for "No, it doesn't need a remake"?
I guess i'm lucky that my interest for Square games and JRPG in general are dwindling down over the years. I don't feel any hype for KH 4, VII Revelation, or Persona 6 and it's just so refreshing for not feeling the urge to play 40-70+ hours JRPG bloated with side quest and characters yapping on and on about saving the world anymore.
Ah region locked...reminds me of the old days where modding consoles is normal to bypass region locked.
But this reminds me that PS Southeast Asia (Indonesia) store are missing some games compare to US, EU, and Japan store. For PS4/PS5, I can't find Front Mission 1-3 remake, House of the Dead remake, Panzer Dragoon remake, and PS2 classic such as Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits, Max Payne, Rogue Galaxy, Wild Arms 3 etc.
And for PS3 store, Asia region also got the short end of the stick with so many games missing. There's no Mega Man Legends 1 & 2, Tron Bonne, Castlevania Lament of Innonence, Rygar, Fatal Frame 1-3 etc etc.
I'm baffled with Sony decision to push all digital while they still didn't fix a lot of things on their end :/
I don't fully blame gamers who see both Sony Music / Audio and SIE under one "Sony" banner, like all are the same one big corpos.
So, one division who announced they will stop producing physical games while the other promotes a vinyl turntable will gives mixed / confusing message for gamers who doesn't care if Sony Music / Audio and SIE are two different divisions who operate by their own rules.
But this is also a solid proof that Sony as a whole company doesn't have good synergy between their divisions. SIE who stay silent from the backlash probably didn't think that far how their action could impact other Sony divisions who doesn't have anything to do with physical games. It's pretty much the same situation when indie devs got caught in the crossfire.
Game discs are pretty much just a physical game key these days.
Like @dskatter said, that has been debunked. From 778 PS5 disc reviewed, 93% of them can be played offline. And from 1200 PS4 disc reviewed, 92% can still played offline. https://gamerant.com/ps5-discs-work-offline/
@Max_the_German I never put my bank account on PSN and it's almost a year since my PS+ essentials expired. So i already done with no 1 & 2.
But for no 3, i'm gonna get some digital games from PS3 and Vita store before they got shut down. Some of the games sadly doesn't have physical copy or they're too expensives for my wallet like Mega Man Legends 1 & 2 + Tron Bonne PS1 copy that could cost $200-300. I'm waiting Capcom to remaster Legends but it feels like they're not gonna do it.
Does Sony still count login from PS3 and Vita since these last couple of months i've been focusing on my PS3 and Vita backlog.
And maybe i'll join the move even it is not gonna change Sony mind. A week is pretty short. I can play with my 3DS and hopefully when August come i already get my hands on Sega MD 2.
they're going to have to either buy physical or copy onto an external drive and make sure they don't delete
Yeah that's pretty much the only way right now; buy physical or make a backup with external drive.
But with physical soon will be completely gone and the price for external drive became a lot more expensives, i wonder how PS owners or gamers in general gonna handle this situation. Buying multiple external drives just to backup digital games feels like it would be really expensives...
I heard this is called "hard delisting" where the games also got removed from user libraries and can't be redownload, unless the publisher decided to relisted the games.
Weβve worked in digital together for a lot of years and then making a physical product of a comic book is a different creative process, but itβs also just really fulfilling to have a physical thing so you can say, βLook, we made a thing.
I think us gamers who buys and collect physical games also experienced a bit similar feelings like that. Like, every physical games in our shelf are a proof that we are a part of gaming history and beautiful memories. And it makes those games feels more special like piece of art and not just a content ready to consume. Maybe that sounds hyperbolic but i personally feel that way with my physical games and books collection.
And just like Dan said, there's still people who wants physical games so why Sony not just provide what they want? It's not like there's zero demands for physical games either.
I've said at other thread, if physical movies has a disc + a code to redeem digital copy for years then why games can't do the same? Make it like a special edition with $80-100 price tag and i think physical fans will be satisfy. Heck, Sony doesn't need to do it for every games. Do it for 1st party games and AAA games only.
I think i'll get it but not on day 1 since i'm not a tag-team fighters fans. But i've bought and enjoyed multiple ArcSys games and i have no doubt they will nailed the gameplay.
@Dogbreath You're the one who keeps yapping on and on for weeks about Laufey "is not a real GoW game" and a character can't used other popular character / established title to boost their popularity and marketing. Now when i used your logic for other characters, you can't accept the fact how fking st*pid your logic is.
Anyway, you have completely derailed and trolled the conversation from what I said originally. I talked about Diablo Immortal and how the main line game shouldβve been announced first followed by the sideshow title that had less interest. That was the marketing blunder here.
No one this crazy to believe Laufey is in the same spot as a F2P mobile game.
Stop wasting my time and tagging me in to the conversation youβre holding with yourself or I will put you on ignore.
Feel free to do that. I don't care if you put me on ignore list π€·ββοΈ
@Dogbreath Laufey trailer almost 20 minutes long. So no, they didn't "royally messed up" if they didn't showed the video interview and confirmation in the same time as Laufey trailer. June SoP final trailer spotlight was for Laufey, not for Kratos.
Your idea of a character can't used other more popular / established character in the title to boost their popularity and market interest / recognition sounds silly af. There's nothing wrong with that marketing.
According to you, Catwoman and Joker shouldn't debut in Batman comic. Instead, DC should just straight make a solo comic about them to proof they can stand on its own feet. Well, luckily back then no one at DC wasn't that crazy to do it or Catwoman and Joker wouldn't became iconic characters.
After made a brief cameo, Wolverine first full debut was in The Incredible Hulk comic issue 181. Luckily also, no one at Marvel back then wasn't silly enough like you to believes Wolverine shouldn't used Hulk popularity for his full debut and make the audience aware of a character name Wolverine.
And we already got video games like Spider-man: Miles Morales, Spider-man and Venom: Maximum Carnage, Mega Man X, Mega Man Zero, Batman: Revenge of the Joker, Superman: Doomsday etc where the main character share the title with other less popular character π€·ββοΈ
Also, if R* announced a game called "Trevor" without GTA in the title, i bet tons of people will be confused and ignored it. Good thing they didn't do it lol.
Heβs suggesting that removing the need to support physical discs via a disc drive will lower the cost of the console, making the console accessible to a wider spectrum of buyers. And that is undoubtedly true.
Undoubtly not true. Steam machine doesn't have a disc drive, weaker than base PS5, and it's still $400 more expensive than base PS5 with disc drive and $100 more expensive than PS5 Pro. More expensives means less accessible to a lot of buyers.
Also, like @Nem said, without disc means less buying options that leads to less accessible for gamers who doesn't have good internet or live in a country where good internet is a luxury.
Not to mention PSN / PS store also doesn't exist in more than 100 countries. How Sony gonna sell PS6 for those countries when they doesn't even have PSN / store? Meanwhile gamers who doesn't have good internet possibly will not buy PS6 because of the lack of disc.
In the end, Sony put unnecessary wall around PS brand with their decision to kill physical games. I don't know if they gonna regret their decision, probably not, but i'm not even surprise if PS6 will sell a lot less than PS3 or PSP with Sony losing a lot of userbase who jump to other platforms.
Sony/Santa Monica royally F'd this one up. They should have announced that they were making a real Kratos God of War game, at the same time they announced the Not-God of War: Laufey spin off.
No they don't royally fked up anything. They announced GoW Trilogy remake with TC Karson voice Kratos again and also shadow drop GoW Sons of Sparta where you played as young Kratos early this year. They also confirmed Kratos is still the main character and the next main game with him is coming in a video interview right after they announced Laufey. So what else do you want them to do?
And calling this game "not real God of War" is silly. It's like calling Mega Man X / Zero as "not real Mega Man" just because the protagonist isn't Rock.
Contra Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra possibly have the most badass and manliest opening CG in Contra series. Both games also has artworks done by award winning artist Ashley Wood and Jim Lee.
Well, i'm not surprise that statement coming from the CEO of the company who's one of the executive said gamers needs to get comfortable not owning their games in order for subcriptions to get popular. And the same company who also deleted The Crew from users library.
@ShadowRJ Sega probably one of the few publishers who gave steelbook as a bonus for standard edition. My Yakuza Kiwami 1 & 2, Bayonetta/Vanquish, Persona 5, and Valkyria Chronicles 1 remastered copy all came with a steelbook. And my Yakuza 6 copy came with a book case that also has some cool artworks.
I hope Sega president keep his words to support physical games. Not with a code in a box like GTA 6 but print their games in a disc / cartridge. Gonna wait if VF Crossroads and Alien Isolation 2 will have physical release.
And if physical movies included a disc + code for digital copy for years then i don't see why Sony can't just do the same for PS6. Make it like a special edition, put $80-100 price tag, and i think a lot of physical fans will be satisfy.

Btw, there's a new report:
Creepy Tale 1 and 2 will be delisted from PS store and possibly from users libraries too after been delisted completely from Xbox live and users libraries. All digital only future looks bright π

Re: Poll: Are You Buying Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls?
I think i'll get it but not on day 1 since i'm not a tag-team fighters fans. But i've bought and enjoyed multiple ArcSys games and i have no doubt they will nailed the gameplay.

Re: PS5's Next Big Exclusive Dated, and It's Closer Than You Think
@Dogbreath You're the one who keeps yapping on and on for weeks about Laufey "is not a real GoW game" and a character can't used other popular character / established title to boost their popularity and marketing. Now when i used your logic for other characters, you can't accept the fact how fking st*pid your logic is.
No one this crazy to believe Laufey is in the same spot as a F2P mobile game.
Feel free to do that. I don't care if you put me on ignore list π€·ββοΈ
Re: PS5's Next Big Exclusive Dated, and It's Closer Than You Think

Re: 'It Will Not Disturb the Industry Much': Major Publisher Doesn't Believe PS5's Disc Debacle Will Change Anything
@asdfghjklz
Re: PS5's Next Big Exclusive Dated, and It's Closer Than You Think
@Dogbreath
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 643
This weekend i'm playing:

Contra Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra possibly have the most badass and manliest opening CG in Contra series. Both games also has artworks done by award winning artist Ashley Wood and Jim Lee.
Have a nice weekend everyone π»
Re: 'A Digital Shift Is Crucial': SEGA to Prioritise Digital Sales, But Won't 'Completely Abandon' Physical
@Krlozgod Sure Sega has flaws but at least they're much better than MS physical release.
Re: GTA 6's Physical PS5 Download Codes Expire After Just 170 Days in Japan
PSN down and GTA 6 code expired after 170 days. Both are good signs for all-digital only future βΊοΈ
Re: PSN Down and Sputtering After Amazon Web Services Outage
@IllusiveMan Sadly this case isn't enough to open up people eyes of how bad an all-digital future for Sony console or gaming in general.
Re: 'It Will Not Disturb the Industry Much': Major Publisher Doesn't Believe PS5's Disc Debacle Will Change Anything
Well, i'm not surprise that statement coming from the CEO of the company who's one of the executive said gamers needs to get comfortable not owning their games in order for subcriptions to get popular. And the same company who also deleted The Crew from users library.
Re: 'A Digital Shift Is Crucial': SEGA to Prioritise Digital Sales, But Won't 'Completely Abandon' Physical
@Mostik Yeah sadly it's not gonna happen since Sony higher ups thinks us physical fans as a small minority and not important to their bottom line.
Re: 'A Digital Shift Is Crucial': SEGA to Prioritise Digital Sales, But Won't 'Completely Abandon' Physical
Re: 'A Digital Shift Is Crucial': SEGA to Prioritise Digital Sales, But Won't 'Completely Abandon' Physical
