Re: Wolverine PS5 Is One of the Lowest Rated First-Party Sony Games of the Generation

PuppetMaster

@alienwithin Code Violet and Babylon Fall aren't Sony 1st party games. Sony didn't funded nor published them.

There's Final Fantasy games at 70 average score or lower such as Stranger of Paradise, Type-0 HD, Crystal Chronicles, Lightning Returns, and Dirge of Cerberus. But there's also main Final Fantasy games who received higher score at 80+ such as FF XII, XIII, XV, XVI, and VII Remake and a lot people still dissapointed with these games. I guess higher scores are not guaranteed a success.

As for GTA, GTA 2 got 70 metacritic but i'm sure there's plenty of people who loves it.

It's sad how people nowadays obsessed with scores and got brainwashed to think 7 or 8 is a bad score.

Re: Sony Stopped Physint Development Over Budget, Exclusivity Concerns

PuppetMaster

@AdamNovice If the single player games flops + with the failure of live service like Concord, Marathon, negative receptions for Horizon Hunter Gathering closed beta, and no hype whatsoever for Fairgames and 4Loop, i think it will give Sony the message that they should get their act together or Playstation will be no more.

But that's a big if Wolverine, Laufey, Until Dawn 2, and Intergalactic failed to sell well. For now, the message only apply towards live service games with Helldivers 2 as the exception.

Re: Sony Stopped Physint Development Over Budget, Exclusivity Concerns

PuppetMaster

@LogicStrikesAgain

You act like Sony didnt just finance two of its most weird and controversial games.

Andrew House and Shawn Layden was the one who greenlight Death Stranding and both of them already left Sony. So you're talking about a different Sony here who already gone and replaced by new Sony who cancelled Physint while keeping underperform game with declining player base like Marathon and Fairgames the next Concord.

And it’s not like we dont know that Kojima can get pretty crazy with development costs, because the same thing happened with him and Konami.

And the cost was worth it with Konami received profits from Kojima games. MGS 5 for example, it sold 3 million copies in the first few days and generated $179 million revenue beating Avengers: Age of Ultron box office. In 2016, MGS 5 managed to sold 6 million copies and boost Konami profits up to 150% despite Kojima already left the company. Total numbers for MGS 5 is around 9.5-9.6 million copies.
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/mgs-v-sells-6m-pushes-konami-digital-profits-up-by-150-percent

Still weird to see Sony who said they generated record breaking profits got cold feet on spending money towards Kojima who have solid track records. Meanwhile they put utmost trust over Haven Studio who doesn't even release a single game under their belt. Great plan Sony!

Re: Sony Stopped Physint Development Over Budget, Exclusivity Concerns

PuppetMaster

@Old-Red

I wonder if this is just the beginning. I could see developers abandoning PlayStation if they continue to alienate their creative connections and audience while carrying on down the path they've chosen.

Sadly i think this is just the beginning of a giant crumble for Playstation. The way Sony badly alienated their fans and Kojima will leaves bad impression for 3rd party studios. Now 3rd party studios surely will take a second thought if they want do close partnership with Playstation.

And when the time comes for PS6, i don't see Sony can convince enough 3rd party especially top tier devs to work exclusivesly with them. Right now i don't see a single chance if Kojima, From Software / Miyazaki, Square, Capcom, Sega, Atlus, and Shift Up will make exclusives games for PS6.

Then Arrowhead said Sony will not involved with their next game. Not sure if the game still comes to Playstation or not.
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/helldivers-dev-self-funding-next-game-playstation-not-involved/1100-6531576/

I'm not surprise if PS6 launch title will looks lackluster.

I also don't like doom and gloom. But looking at Sony keeps digging bigger holes and shooting their own foot without any sign of recovery, it's just hard to feel positives for them...

Re: Sony Stopped Physint Development Over Budget, Exclusivity Concerns

PuppetMaster

@Trojan I never say i expect them to make logical decisions all the time. But after all the huge L's Sony collecting in the last 2 months, i expected them to do one logical decision when comes to their close partnership with Kojima, one of legendary devs who gave huge contribution to Playstation popularity, and somehow Sony still failed to do it.

But again, i was wrong to expect something logical and good coming out from this arrogant and tone deaf Sony under Hermen and Nishino. Oh well, i learnt the lesson here.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 649

PuppetMaster

Just continuing Doom 3 BFG edition. Currently at level 18-Delta Labs sector 3, blasting zombies and demons with rocket launcher.

But it's kinda funny looking at some reviewers and people chewing out Wolverine because the game "basic, linear, and repetitive". But here i am having a lot of fun with Doom 3 which is also basic, linear, and repetitive of slaying demons from one area to another, getting attack / jump scare out of nowhere, and collecting PDA to open locked doors / storage repeats.

I never understand some critics obsessions of making bloated gameplay with gazillion of mechanics and 100 hours stuff to do as a good thing. I rather replay simple and linear games like Contra, Doom, or Ghost n' Goblins for a thousand time rather than replaying Assasins Creed or Persona 5 which was fun for the first playthrough but not for the second playthrough.

Anyway. Have a nice weekend everyone 🍻

Re: Sony Stopped Physint Development Over Budget, Exclusivity Concerns

PuppetMaster

@Llamageddon

Or maybe they hoped ds2 would build on the sales of ds1 and when it didn't they started getting cold feet for Physint. Sounds logical to me.

DS 2 only 1 year old in the market and it sold 2+ million copies while generating $150+ million revenue, better than the underperforming Marathon who also keeps losing plenty of players. But somehow Sony got cold feet and cancelled Physint while Marathon is still alive? That doesn't sound logical to me.

Re: Sony Stopped Physint Development Over Budget, Exclusivity Concerns

PuppetMaster

@Llamageddon

I agree Sony have spaffed so much money on live service but they are chasing a golden goose and they will retain the IP regardless.

What's the point of lossing billions of dollars for live service games and retaining a dead + colossal flop IP like Concord?

And this talk of Sony retaining IP sounds ironic when we're looking how they didn't do jack sh*t with tons of IP's under their belt. Where's the new Syphon Filter, Wild Arms, Alundra, Legend of Dragoon, Ape Escape Jet Moto, Resistance, Jak & Daxter, Heavenly Sword, Folklore, or Warhawk? None.

Don't get me wrong OD and Physint will probably be critical darlings but that simply isn't Sony's priority at this moment in time.

Yeah Sony priority are burning billions of dollar towards Bungie and live service games over making great games with Kojima. Sounds like a great plan to me.

Re: Sony Stopped Physint Development Over Budget, Exclusivity Concerns

PuppetMaster

@TrollOfWar

Fairgames and Intergalactic most likely are available in a playable form and closer to being ready for a release in the next 1-2 years, where Physint probably is only available as a concept with nothing playable to show and another 5 years of development ahead. Going with this pattern, Microsoft also recently cancelled several projects or closed studios, where their next projects were several years away.

You said Fairgames and Intergalactic closer to being ready for a release. But to this days both are still not have any release dates. Intergalactic not even showed any gameplay trailer with ND missed deadline for a demo. From missing deadlines alone, both Fargames and Intergalactic should get the cut. But somehow Physint is the one who got the cut despite Sony fully aware Kojima can bring quality better than Haven Studios and as good as ND.

Also, like i said, at the time Sony and Kojima announced Physint in January 2024, they clearly well aware that Kojima also working on Death Stranding 2, which if it wasn't because of SAG-AFTRA strike it would finish faster. But nonetheless Kojima managed to released Death Stranding 2 in June 2025, less than 2.5 years after the game first announced in December 2022 or faster than Death Stranding 1 that took 3.5 years to complete.

When the first Death Stranding released, according to reports the 5 million copies sold on PS4 were seen as "underperforming", where other similar PS4 games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War, Marvel's Spide-Man, Uncharted 4, The Last of Us Part 2 easily sold more than 10 million copies. DS2 most likely had a higher development busget and sold less units than DS1.

If Sony believes an experimental new IP with unconventional gameplay sold 5 millions copies on one platform as "underwhelming" then i don't get why they greenlight DS 2 and even Physint? Shouldn't they just stop at DS 1 and done with Kojima?

Again, what Sony did here doesn't make sense to me, especially when Marathon is far underperforming after spending $200-250 million or more and losing plenty of players. But somehow Sony still keep it alive.

And you can't compare Death Stranding with established IP like Spiderman, GoW, and TloU nor with Horizon who easily attract mainstream audiences with robot dinos and conventional gameplay.

Kojima Production offered an initial project estimation, when Somy offered to publish Physint in 2024. Probably the costs got reevaluated now in 2026 and for whatever reason, it requires more time and money to finish the project.

Doesn't answer my question if Physint already enter full production or not. And usually if a game got greenlight, both publisher and devs signed a contract that includes the amount of budget both parties agreed. So i don't buy this narrative about Kojima asking for more money.

The Sony/PlayStation which invested in Concord, Bungie, Fairgames and Kojima Productions is not the same Sony/PlayStation we have now. Many of the executive leaders got replaced and the new ones follow a different strategy.

Yes the current Playstation executives are unbelieveably sucks. Hermen and Nishino burning plenty of good decisions and hardwork that already established by their predecessors. Now we're here watching them dragging down Playstation through the mud with no sign of recovery.

Re: Sony Stopped Physint Development Over Budget, Exclusivity Concerns

PuppetMaster

@Trojan 1. Players or copies, the fact doesn't change: DS 1 is officially sold well and profitable. If DS 1 sold like sh*t then Sony wouldn't greenlight DS 2.

2. Sure Sony didn't own Stellar Blade IP and Helldivers 2. But they published and funded both games and could push for a permanent exclusives but they didn't do it. Arrowhead even said people should ask Sony if they want it for Xbox. Lo and behold, Helldivers 2 did released for Xbox with Sony as the publisher.

As for Lego Horizon, Sony could just cancel the game if they care so much about permanent exclusive. But they agreed with the demand like it's nothing and released it for Switch. Like i said, since when Sony care about permanent exclusives from 3rd party when they even spread their own 1st party IP for other platforms?

3. Sony well aware that Kojima provide quality but somehow they cancelled Physint while keeping Fairgames and Marathon which currently doesn't sold well and losing a lot of players. This doesn't makes sense but i guess i need to accept how bad the quality of Playstation current leader under Hermen and Nishino...

Re: Sony Stopped Physint Development Over Budget, Exclusivity Concerns

PuppetMaster

Sorry but i don't buy Jason Schemer source / report.

1. "Missed deadline"
Surely Sony knows really well that Kojima was also working to finished Death Stranding 2 at the time they announced Physint in January 2024. And there's SAG-AFTRA Strike at the end of 2023 and 2024 which delayed all Kojima projects. So how on earth Physint missed the deadline???

And Fairgames and Intergalactic are MIA for years. Intergalactic even missed deadline for a demo. But both project are still alive. So this decision to cut off Physint doesn't make sense.

2. "Death Stranding 1 and 2 didn't meet Sony revenue expectation"
Last time i check Kojima report DS 1 at 19 million copies and profitable to fund DS 2. And DS 2 is estimated at 2 million copies in less than a year. Those numbers are much higher than Bungie Marathon, the mega flop Concord, and Saros. But what exactly Sony's expectation for Death Stranding? It feels like they have crazier sales expectation than Square-Enix.

3. "Permanent exclusive"
Since when Sony care that much about permanent exclusives from 3rd party studios? Helldivers 2 released on PC and Xbox, soon Stellar Blade 1 will release for Switch 2, and even Lego Horizon also released for Switch. But i don't see Sony came out and say we're done with Shift Up and Arrowhead.

4. "On track over budget"
Is Physint already enter full production cause last time i check Kojima only done with the mocap for some actors. So i don't understand how the project is on track for over budget?

And like @IllusiveMan said. Sony spent $400 million for mega flop Concord and $3 Billion for Bungie. But suddenly they got cold feet funding Kojima project which have chances to sell well?

Again. I'm not buying Schemer report and it sounds like some misdirection to put all the blame on Kojima and not Sony Hermen and Nishino who's dragging Playstation through the mud in the last three months.

Re: This PS5 Gameplay Trailer Might Be Our Best Look Yet at Fairgames

PuppetMaster

3 years later and what they're working on is just making a Payday: The Heist clone but with 3rd person view and less realistic style. Which is quite ironic i say considering the first Payday was published by SOE.

Does it looks bad though? No. But it just looks so uninspired and i expect more from a studio created by Jade Raymond, oh wait she's already left the studio before this game even out lol.

Oh well. I guess this is type of game that Hermen and Nishino believes what a big chunk of Playstation userbase wants over a game like Physint 😮‍💨

Re: Wolverine PS5 Is One of the Lowest Rated First-Party Sony Games of the Generation

PuppetMaster

It's funny to see some people put so much weight towards review scores and metacritic.

Last time i check, TloU part 2 got 93 at metacritic and received 9's and 10's. But a lot of people including some on this site hated the game so much as if it is a bad game and it killed their family irl.

Astro Bot got 94 at metacritic and won GotY. But i remember seen a lot of people claim it doesn't deserve to win GotY because it's a "kids game". Some even claim Sony paid the reviewers.

Or Saros got 87 at metacritic. But still fresh in my mind how a lot of people in this site just straight hate it while screaming woke this and that.

So why does it matter if Wolverine got 77 at metacritic? If it got 90+ at metacritic, some people will still complaining as if the game is as bad as Gollum.

I have favorite games that got 7 or 8/10. Heck, they got lower scores from some sites as if they're broken and unplayable games.

  • God Hand: 3/10 by IGN, 73 at metacritic
  • Alien Isolation: 5.9/10 by IGN, 79 at metacritic
  • Gungrave Gore: 6/10 by IGN, 52 at metacritic
  • Fist of the North Star-Lost Paradise: "Sega's marriage between its best-selling series and the cult anime ends up sloppy and half-hearted" by Eurogamer, 72 at metacritic
  • Medievil remake: 6.5/10 by IGN, 67 at Metacritic
  • Shadow of the Beast remake: 30/100 by Polygon, 64 at Metacritic

And i thought people are tired of Sony studios making open world games. But now looks like people don't like linear games too lol.

Re: Sony Cancels Physint Development, Xbox Picks Up Project

PuppetMaster

@Sweetz That was a rough estimates. For starter, Death Stranding 1 was officially break even + profitable in the mid of 2020 or 6-7 months after released and sold like 2 million copies. So i have doubt for that rough estimates. DS 2 could be cost $100 million or less considering it used the same Decima Engine with plenty of reused assets from the first game.

And while Hollywood celebs are expensives, i believe they have lower pay scale for video games. Sony might be paid them less expensives than what people thinks.

Re: Sony Cancels Physint Development, Xbox Picks Up Project

PuppetMaster

@ShadowRJ

They want to make a massive profit, or else why bother spending the money to begin with?

Then why bother announcing the project early if Sony doesn't trust Kojima with Physint will bring massive profits?

Like really. Sony spent $400 million for Concord, a new IP from a brand new devs who have zero track record. But did they cancelled it early like they did with Physint? Nope. They keeps pouring money on it. Heck, Sony promoted Concord like it will become as big as Star Wars but we all knew what happened.

Then Fairgame$ first trailer doesn't looks convincing at all like it have a tiny bit chance to bring massive profits. Then Jade Raymond, the project leader, left Sony. Years later we still don't know if this game will come out or not. But did Sony cancelled the game? Nope.

Horizon Hunters Gathering got very negative receptions from closed beta. Did Sony cancelled it? Nope. They reworked the game aka keeps pouring money on it despite it could be a flop.

So why Kojima, a legendary devs with great track records, didn't get the same chance? I doubt Physint would be as expensives as Concord.

Re: Vanillaware's 4K Remaster of Stone-Cold Classic Muramasa Carves Out February Release Date on PS5

PuppetMaster

@GigaGaia

Can't they even come up with something new? Seems Unicorn Overlord is the only thing they've come up with in the last decade.

1. Vanillaware is a small studio with only 39 employees. So it takes times for them to complete one project considering their 2D graphic signature are hand drawn.

2. Yes they can make something new but it takes time. This remaster is filling up the gap as well gives them some additional money to fund their new project as well keep them afloat. I mean, their games sold well but never been big sellers. Most of their best selling titles only sold 1 million copies.

3. Beside Unicorn Overlord, in the last decade they released 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, Odin Sphere Leiftrasir, Dragon's Crown Pro, and GrimGrimoire Once More. The last three are remaster but two of them are PS2 games which needs some heavy work to make the 2D sprites looks right in HD.

Re: Sony Cancels Physint Development, Xbox Picks Up Project

PuppetMaster

Anyone who said maybe Death Stranding 2 ended as a flop and triggered this decision; the game estimated sold 1.6 million copies on PS5 last year and recent PC release sold around 425K+ copies in the first week. For a total 2+ million copies in less than a year and estimate $140+ million revenue, that doesn't sound like a flop to me. Definitely a lot better compare to some Sony 1st party project like Concord, Marathon, Lego Horizon, or Saros.

So, while those aren't official numbers (it was from Alinea so take it with a grain of salt), i have big doubt if Death Stranding 2 was one if not the main reason why Sony decided to end their collaboration with Kojima.

In the end, this is definitely not looking good for Sony. They already made plenty of longtime PS fans angry and jumping ships in the last 2 months. Now they're also burning bridges with one of legendary devs who helped and gave big contribution for Playstation popularity. Sony are digging a giant hole deeper and deeper and next gen is not even start yet.

Re: Sony Cancels Physint Development, Xbox Picks Up Project

PuppetMaster

@Sakai Sadly this is the arrogant and tone deaf Sony. Even if say a lot of PS gamers stop buying games and not sub to PS+, there's still the casual audiences who quickly thrown $80-100 to preorder digital GTA 6 and the ones who keeps spending money on gacha mtx. These casuals gamers outnumbers long time / hardcore PS fans, which is why Sony keeps doing these BS.

@ryanburnsred From Kojima tweet, he sounds very surprised and also dissapointed. So definitely this will hugely affect his relationship with Sony / Playstation. I'm not even surprise if Kojima decided to stop releasing his games for Playstation.

Re: Sony Cancels Physint Development, Xbox Picks Up Project

Meanwhile, the live service slop Fairgames is still alive after years of absent. Make it make sense Sony 🙄🤦‍♂️

It's just crazy how Hermen and Nishino are collecting so many L's for Playstation like there's no tomorrow. What's their endgame here, killing Playstation brand as fast as they can???

Good catch for Xbox though. Looks like they've gaining more and more positive momentum lately.

Didn't know you can detect which voter who'll really buy Zelda and which one who's voted because they have motive against GTA. I mean, this is Zelda we're talking about here, not some random / unknown IP. But eh, whatever you say 🤷‍♂️

Re: PS6 Could Be the Last PlayStation Console Designed by Iconic Architect

PuppetMaster

Mark Cerny is a genius and also a legend. He's been in this industry for decades worked at Atari, Sega, Universal etc. He deserves his retirement but the day his retired Sony will lost a genius who designed their console for decades.

Not sure if Sony already prepare someone close to Mark level to design PS7. But maybe at that time there will be no console anymore with games became 100% streaming only (ewww).

Sadly, i will not buy Mark last console. But again everything have a start and finish line.

Re: The Legend of Zelda Is the Only Big Name Willing to Go Up Against GTA 6 in November

Naa, the poll results just show how much BS people on here talk. I wouldn't be surprised if the people that voted Zelda don't even have a S2.

Is it that hard to accept the fact that plenty of PS owners also owned other consoles and more interested with Zelda OoT over GTA 6?

I myself not yet owned a Switch 2, currently saving to get one. But i owned a 3DS + Zelda OoT & A Link Between Worlds.

Re: Silent Hill: Townfall Is a PS5 Horror Time Capsule I Can't Wait to Play More Of

PuppetMaster

@Leinad7

The best games in the series take place in the Silent Hill. Including Silent Hill 3 which takes place also in the SH town in second part of the game

Which Silent Hill is the best is irrelevant and doesn't change the FACT it was Team Silent themself who established the canon lore about the Otherworld phenomenon can happen outside Silent Hill.

You think Silent Hill and automatically think of either 2 or 3.
You think Townfall and automatically think “spin off”

When i think Silent Hill, my mind automaticly think about SH 1, not 2 or 3. And when i see Townfall, i think it looks like a legit Silent Hill game and doesn't feel like a spin-off. Not the first time for a main Silent Hill game used a first person view and took place outside the town (SH 4).

I’ll wait to see more gameplay and story but for now I think they could name it differently and no one would even care.

Lol. You're acting as if survival horror games inspired by Silent Hill never get big attention. Games like The Medium, Tormented Souls, and Forbidden Siren (developed by the guy who directed Silent Hill 1) got good receptions and fanbase.

So if they announced this game with different name, i bet a lot of people still care.

Re: The Legend of Zelda Is the Only Big Name Willing to Go Up Against GTA 6 in November

PuppetMaster

I have mixed feeling with OoT remake graphic. The environment looks pretty but the character model looks weird like Nintendo smear DLSS5 all over it and it mess up with the artstyle.

Also, the original OoT doesn't have traditional voice acting. So when i'm hearing Zelda, Ganon, etc talking it just doesn't feels right.

That said. I enjoyed and finished OoT on 3DS. So i choose OoT remake over GTA 6. Not just it looks more fun but it also have physical release + cheaper too. Sadly, i'm not yet own Switch 2.

Re: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Has the Right Lara, But Something's Missing

Too much hand holding in games these days

Tell me about it:

  • autosave / checkpoint every 5 minutes
  • yellow paint to shows which item / environment that players can interract
  • characters yapping to spoils puzzle solution
  • dumb af AI enemies

This is what we got when publishers / devs keeps catering to people like DSP, Dean Takahashi, or anyone who wants everything serve on a silver platter 🙄

Re: Capcom's Focused on Reviving Dormant Franchises, and That's Got Me All Excited About Ace Attorney

PuppetMaster

@BusyOlf

Criminal how forgotten it has become by the big C! Give it to the people who did SoR4

Capcom didn't forgot the IP considering Metro City is the main setting in SF 6 world tour mode. We also can play Final Fight 1 and Mighty Final Fight in SF 6 battle hub mode. And Guy student, Kimberly, also playable in the base roster.

I think it feels more like Capcom are just not ready to invest a lot on beat em up genre again, which i can understand after the arcade market collapse and their attempt with 3D beat em up like Beat Down: Fist of Vengeance, God Hand, and Final Fight Streetwise ended as a flop (God Hand deserves a success if it not because IGN crappy review). Then i believe D&D: Chronicles of Mystara and Capcom Beat Em Up bundle wasn't doing that hot.

But yeah, with the success of Street of Rage 4, TMNT Shredder Revenge, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Absolum etc, Capcom should try another shot with the genre. Like you said, maybe hired Dotemu / Guard Crush for a Final Fight remake or sequel.

@Nepp67 Let's see if you'll walk the walk and not just talk the talk.

Re: Wolverine PS5's Lady Deathstrike Design Sparks Psylocke Confusion

PuppetMaster

@Gbarsotini I didn't say she looks old like grandma old. I said she looks older since she always looks young like late 20's or early 30.

As for looking realistic, this one actually looks closer to the comic version compare to the movies with all black latex suit. Beside, this isn't Lady Deathstrike from 616 universe. So it's okay to have some differences that makes her looks apart from the 616 universe.

Re: Mega Man: Dual Override Is Legit, and I Know Because I Died 100 Times

PuppetMaster

There's good reasons why challenging games exist:

  • To teach players how to be patience
  • To teach players how to analyze, test their strategies, and adapt
  • To teach players how to focus and extended their attention span
  • Training reaction speed and eye coordination
  • Ultimate satisfaction from mastering a game

So hopefully this "no lives system" is for demo only. Or at least there's difficulty options to used live system. But if not then i'm not gonna play a babified Mega Man game.

Re: Wolverine PS5's Lady Deathstrike Design Sparks Psylocke Confusion

PuppetMaster

Not even once i confused her with Psylocke. From her hair color, claws, attire, and voice alone she screams Lady Deathstrike. And in the comic before transition to cyborg, Lady Deathstrike also used an electromagnetic katana. While Psylocke mostly used a normal looking katana.

As for "ugly", in the comic and cartoon Lady Deathstrike never been pretty and this one doesn't look ugly but she's older. Some people only seen Lady Deathstrike in the movie and think she must be as hot as Kelly Hu lol.
